Okay, so I understand that I'm definitely an outlier on this one given how much people rave about Sunny Girl. Let me explain. For breakfast sandwiches in the city I'm used to Mike & Patty's, though I've been going to Archie's in downtown a lot more lately because I find it just as satisfying while also being much less expensive. I noticed Sunny Girl was somewhere in between in terms of cost. I also noticed how quickly they rose to foodie stardom, so I naturally went in with high expectations and the consideration that perhaps I'd have another quick service breakfast spot option under my belt. I made my way into Sunny Girl on a Wednesday morning before work at about 8:30. The place is very small, but there was a steady flow of people coming in, ordering, waiting a few minutes for their food and going on their merry way. They make it work. There are only a few stools inside for eating in, but they've got a few tables right out front for the nice weather. I ordered the breakfast grilled cheese with avocado added on, as well as an iced coffee. The coffee wasn't really anything to write home about for me, but I was really there for the sandwich. I grabbed my order and sat at one of the tables outside. Upon unwrapping the sandwich, it looked delectable at first glance. It had a decent cheese pull when I picked up the first half. For the first bite or two it seemed like everything inside worked together in harmony; that is until I realized that the bacon wasn't crispy. Not like it was just a little chewy on the ends, but legitimately undercooked on at least one side. To me, not many things are more dissatisfying than biting into gelatinous, underdone bacon. Not sure if this makes me nitpicky, but it kind of ruined the sandwich for me since I ultimately ended up picking about half of the bacon out. If the bacon was crispy or otherwise cooked more evenly, this surely would've been a knockout sandwich and the experience as a whole would've been worth at least four stars for me. Sunny Girl really seems to have a lot going for them; a good location, fresh ingredients, a loyal and ever growing customer base, an overall good concept. I genuinely want to like the place and my hope is that I just happened to catch them on an off day. It might be a little while before I return for another try, but if and when I do, I'll most likely end up trying a different sandwich and will also have to make a point to ask for extra crispy bacon. read more

One of my favorite breakfast places in all of Boston! I have loved everything I've ever gotten here, and I continue to go back all the time. This is the spot that I will take people to for breakfast when they visit...because you can't not get Sunny girl. I love the Lox sandwich, but pro tip: add in a fried egg. It goes sooooo well. Everything else is also good, especially the torta one, but the lox one is so unique. The citrus salad on it...just amazing. The store itself is a small shop and in the summers has outdoor seating. I've eaten in the outside area a few times, but I usually pick it up and take it back to my apartment. I think in a pinch you could eat outside, but inside is honestly way too tight because it does tend to get crowded. That brings me to my next point, I strongly recommend ordering online. While it's nice being able to order there and ask questions, you should be prepared to wait in a long line if you go in the weekend. It's safe to say this is a popular spot among locals...and everyone else. But rightfully so, the food is truly outstanding. A must try, and I can't wait for their new location in Southie! read more

I came back here because I had the OG sandwich with sausage last year and it was amazing, and I was excited to introduce my out-of-state friend to this spot. The food is very good, but unfortunately we ordered two OG sandwiches with sausage and ended up getting a bacon avocado sandwich and a breakfast grilled cheese instead. It was slammed, so I understand how mistakes happen. We didn't realize until we opened the bags in the car, so by then it was too late to fix. Sunny girl is a very popular spot for breakfast - especially on the weekends! Be prepared to wait it out, even if you order ahead on Toast. We always get the English muffin, egg, and cheese sammy without the special sauce. My hubby likes these too. He also most recently had their salmon lox bfast sammy with an egg and he loved it. Don't forget to get an orange or grapefruit juice - not fresh squeezed but it's Natalie's which is the next best thing. They also have a collab going with Weesh bakery and we tried their cookies n cream pop tart. It was so tasty! Would love it if they have more flavors to choose from next time. They have a couple of tables out front where you can sit with your pup or if those are filled, just chill on the wall of the flower garden. Omg. It's both a blessing and a curse that I do not live closer to Sunny Girl b/c I would be here all the time and eat my way through the menu. Tried the OG and the egg yolk alone ...! The homemade English muffin! It sounds very simple in theory, just egg, cheese, and bread, but the combination works so well. It's a relatively small sandwich, yet it more than filled me up. (Also, better chow down when it's still steaming hot because it didn't taste as good after being jostled around in my pocket.) There's not much seating inside but in nicer weather, they have tables set up outside and you can take your muffin to eat by the water. Also gotta give Sunny Girl points for accepting takeout orders at the height of the weekend brunch crush, as not many places do that. This is the best breakfast we had in Boston. Hands down. Every time I asked where we should eat that day, she always responded, "Sunny Girl!" We seriously could eat there on a very regular basis. This cosy eatery is a vibe. It is a pot with old charm and character. I loved the bar that ran along the front windows and overlooked the sidewalk. Nothing better than people watching while talking with friends and eating. There are even outside tables. They have an inventive menu of absolutely delicious sandwiches. Clearly I can't get enough of this spot, it's one of my most frequented restaurants in the city--one that I constantly crave and recommend. Their flavors back such a uniquely flavorful punch, creating an emphasis of decadent flavors in your mouth without exhausting you of their taste. The service is fast and the sandwiches are amazing. The English muffin is what makes it so unique it's homemade and the most delicious English muffin I have ever tried. Also the sunny sauce is outstanding and really makes the sandwich moist. But I order the OG, add sausage, no cheese, on focaccia ( because I try to avoid dairy ) and the English muffin has dairy in it, and it's fantastic.
