I've been going to Sam B's for about 2 years now and am a real fan. I completely disagree with some reviewers that say it is overpriced though, because it most certainly is not. My favorite dinner dish is the chicken diplomat, which is $18.99. This is a classic dish and they've always done it well. The chicken and crab imperial are both cooked and seasoned to perfection and their hollandaise sauce is some of the best I've had. I'll admit that there are some misses on the menu and I'm not crazy about all their sandwiches, but this place truly shines with the dinner menu. An enthusiast cook myself, I appreciate the complex intricacies of many of their dishes. If you're not into that and want something young and hip, then this might not be the place for you, and that's alright. I've also had the pleasure of working with them in a professional sense and have had numerous events catered by them. They are professional and provide high quality service. Not to mention, their catering is probably some of the best in BG, and I've had a lot. All in all, I go to Sam B's whenever I get the chance and they never disappoint. I'm not one to complain...EVER. But literally the worst food I've ever had. The pasta was complete mush with an obscene amount of melted cheese. So much it was hard to swallow. And I love lots of cheese. My boyfriend got the fish and chips. He bit into a massive bone in the fish. It was not cheap either. I couldn't even eat my pasta, and that says a lot. read more

I ordered delivery from them it was the pasta Alfredo. When I got it I can't believe it was 12 dollars for such a small amount no breadsticks or anything. Poor quality of food. Way over priced for what you get. The burgers were burnt and had no flavor. The flat bread was also burnt and cost 9.00 for a pice of bread, sauce and cheese. Will not be returning. There are much better options in BG. read more

Good food, good atmosphere for dining. Cool art work presented throughout. Great selection from their menu for lunch or dinner items. Had the pleasure of dining here tonight. We arrived early in the evening and were seated promptly. The lobster bisque was very good, with a smooth and buttery consistency. My wife had the fish and chips and was plentiful and tasty. I had the new york strip which was cooked perfectly and was super tender. The Apple, bacon and spinach flatbread appetizer was to die for! Then, I had the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and then the hazelnut crème brûlée. Always simply delicious! Although the restaurant is a little pricey, it was well worth every penny! For two people eating an appetizer, two entrées and dessert came to $53.33. But we had water to drink so that could've raised the bill a little and we had drinks. read more

I don't often eat at Sam B's, mainly because I feel that it is a little too expensive for me personally. Other than the prices, I've never been disappointed. If you've never tried their French onion soup, I suggest you do. They also have modified orders to my liking which I appreciate. read more

I am originally from outside BG but moved to San Diego and when I was back in town I stopped by Sam B's and I had the soup of the day (chicken noodle), chicken marsala, and a side salad and all of it was amazing! In town visiting relatives and we stopped in to this place. Absolutely loved it. The weight staff were really friendly and attentive. Had spinach and artichoke dip and Brussel sprouts for appetizers. Service is good, $15 off your meal if it's your birthday, mashed potatoes were delicious, we both had steak so not sure how their seafood is but the steak is right up there with ummm Steak 'n Shake?? Just not good, in a good steakhouse A1 shouldn't ever come into the picture but it was needed, yes I know they are known for seafood but every good fish place should have good steak just a good rule of thumb. Went here for a birthday dinner. We were seated without problem. Our appetizer was yummy and quickly delivered (spinach artichoke dip). I wanted to try something that I'd never had before that was also meat-free, so I chose to get the Pasta Florentine. I was disappointed to say the least. There was at least 2x more of the Swiss sauce than noodles and the noodles were very soft (overcooked), resulting in an experience comparable to just eating a bowl of Alfredo sauce. Yuck. I literally had to stop eating it before I got half way through due to it's slimey texture and lack of flavors. I was glad that I had ordered a side of French Fries for $2 extra (sides don't come with entrees) because I was able to fill up on those. For the in-crowd Sam B's is a namesake in Bowling Green. Did you know that SamB's is a reference to Samuel Beckett?. For those you would like to know more about a fabulous restaurant: quiet, casual ambience, local artists decor, and great food...drop on by. This place has two stories, quite literally and figuratively: originally, it was a quaint little sub shop that catered to starving students back in the 70s. Since then the owners Jim Ferrell and Kathy Walker have transformed this bohemian sub shop into a formal dining experience worthy of you, your graduation, and your parents picking up the tab. And second, it has an upstairs with several large banquet rooms suitable for large families and other epic gatherings. Walk the spiral staircase and check 'em out. On returning to my alma mater from my home in San Diego, recently, I had occasion to have two meals in two days at this fine restaurant. I would not normally do so, except the perch dinner on Friday night was so delightful I had to come back for more. If you like seafood of all stripes, be sure to catch SamB's on one of their fresh fish nights. On Saturday I drop by for lunch and had an exquisite cheeseburger. I felt like the proverbial cheeseburger in Paradise except I was in Bowling Green and not San Diego. So I give Sam B's and unprecedented five stars without hesitation. My husband and I just stopped in to have dinner and also to purchase a gift certificate for our parents. We were seated and no one ever returned to help us. Never! We waited 15 minutes as the ladies had conversation at the bar about their Christmas plans. There were only 2 other tables seated at the time we were there and we were never even asked what we wanted to drink. Finally we left and walked across the street to easy street where we are now sitting and will also purchase our gift certificates. We ordered food tonight and it was late. Half of our order was missing and the onion rings were a pile of cold, oily mush. When we spoke to someone over at the restaurant, we were told on busy nights missing food happens and it is normal. We were also told that the chips were just bags of chips and it wasn't really a big deal that they were missing. I cannot believe that people at this restaurant believe that this is actually okay!!! There are only a couple of nice restaurants in BG, and SamB's is one of them. The atmosphere is quiet and classy - perfect for a date. I love restaurants that are nice, but you can still dress casually, which you can here. The staff is friendly and the food always tastes fresh and delicious. It is a bit pricy, but not outrageous. The one negative I will point out is that if it is very busy, service can sometimes be a little slow. read more

I've lived in BG for 17 years and have been to Sam B's a handful of times. I find at the present location the atmosphere rather tired and dark with cheap seating, and the food overpriced for what you get. it really isn't a treat to eat there for me. The last time I ate there years ago I got a piece of white PVC pipe in my pasta! I was disgusted. The owner (?) offered to remake my dish but I declined. We then paid for the rest of the bill, which in hindsight I felt like a fool for doing. No offer to comp the whole meal. I guess they realized this was pretty much a dining experience from hell that couldn't be fixed. Obviously this was a bizarre event, but I wouldn't have rated them above a 3 otherwise. read more

Went to Sam B's Sunday 2/17 with family for dinner. Restaurant was very dimly lit, to the point where my parents couldn't properly see their menus, and I myself struggled. Our waitress was pushy and yet inattentive - we got only 1 drink refill over our (more than an hour long) dinner. The portions for everything we ordered, both appetizers and entrees, were shockingly small. For $9 I expected more than 2 slices of tomato as an appetizer. Hot Italian sandwich was enjoyable, but the fish and chips, eggplant parmesan, and tofu fried rice were all misses. We left feeling that the $115 we spent on the meal left us neither full nor satisfied. Overall, there are much better restaurants in BG. read more

SamB's: I had a great experience. I was with a big Group and we ordered apps and we got them within minutes of order. For our food it came in a reasonable amount of time the food was ok it was not the best food I have had but it was good. Keep in mind I was with a talkative group of people and they handled the people and the kids very well and I think we stayed about an hour after they closed because we where talking and we apologized multiple times and they said don't worry about it.overall I had a good experience at SamBs. read more

Casual, sit down, dinner spot (not a sports bar) in the heart of BGSU university row (Main Street). Had a beer n appetizer at their bar. The staff was friendly, ambience was casual sophisticated with art on the walls and traditional christmas music on the background (Dec 14 visit). I have to say this is a nice middle of the road restaurant. Husband wanted the Prime Rib limited time offer, like (Fri,Sat,Sun) you could do Queen portion $17 for 10oz. king portion for $23 a16oz steak, the reviews were good, so after a long day we went for it. Our arrival was at a busy time after the Black Swamp Festival and the place was hopping. We ordered two Call Brand Martini's at the bar for $6.50 each (good deal) and waited for a table which was 20 mins. Good bartenders! Ordered the Prime rib for dinner and was excellent. I only did the Queen cut Med. rare and it was perfect, husband ordered King cut for six dollars extra and when delivered was sure it wasn't 6oz. more. The dinner was excellent, prime rib great, salad good, mashed potatoes good, although the ice cream scope portion was ugly on the plate, but plenty of them. We are locals and manage to eat here about once a month or so. We have been pleased with the surf and turf, fried chicken and perch specials. We usually split an entree because they are american sized. Not really relying on farm to table but uses folley fish and tried and true american sides. Not much to complain about here.
