The restaurant itself is just beautiful, and everyone was so friendly. It was a lovely place to have a dinner with our boss when traveling to visit clients. All of the food was amazing, but hands down the table favorite was honestly the whipped feta. It's what dreams are made of! It had a slightly spicy oil topper, and delicious crostini! The only note I would give, is that the bacon appetizer really needs to come with a steak knife for sharing. It was a little too hard to cut with just the butter knife. Steaks and sides are all prepared perfectly, the button mushrooms were a hit as well. I would completely recommend this restaurant to anyone, and will return again if I'm back in the area. read more

The brought bread to the table and wow that was a meal alone. It was like a popover. It was so good and I hadn't had anything like that before. I got a New York strip since it's a steak place and cooked perfectly medium rare. And I got a twice baked potato and that hit the spot. V and I were in the area for a family reunion, and tonight he wanted to take me out for a special meal. We arrived 45 minutes before closing, and the host asked if we'd like to sit in the bar where they offer the full menu. Saying yes was fine until the last 15 minutes. A better choice would have been to sit in the dining room. We started off with drinks, V ordered a Mai Tai, and I had a Tequila something or other. The drinks tasted good, if I were a betting person, I'd say that they touched the ice with alcohol, and that's about it. I don't drink very often, so I always know if a drink contains a meaningful amount of alcohol. They brought out a warmed puff bread. It was unique for sure, and tasted good too. Our appatiser was Lobster Tail served on a bed of vinegar-based coleslaw with miso or something similar. The flavors worked together fabulously. V's entree was a beef stir fry. He said it was ok, but nothing special. He also ordered the Smoked Gouda & Rosemary Mac & Cheese with bacon. That side dish was very tasty, but overpowered my entree, though it paired well with his beef. I had the Miso Halibut, which came over with Sweet Chili Bok Choy and Jasmine Rice. The service was really good too, our waiter listened when we told him we had a comedy show to attend and packed our desserts up quickly. The servers were personable and we shared a few laughs. Great service, good food, but not worth the price. When a meal costs this much, it should be a meal worth remembering, but the only dish we'll remember is the mashed potatoes. They did absolutely nothing wrong, but in the end, our mealnsits above average. The first thing is the food. The portions are not huge, but that's okay at an expensive place. My ribeye was cooked exactly medium rare and was a nice cut of meat. However, it was drowning in butter and was just too salty for the meat to shine through. A good steak, but not great and maybe not even very good. My wife's scallops were very good and came with a great corn relish underneath. The sides must be ordered separately. We got the mashed potatoes and those were absolutely excellent-- probably also too much butter, but that just makes potatoes better. We got the feta appetizer and that was good, but very thick in our mouths. My wife had the leftovers for lunch and found it better as it's own meal The service was simply great. They knew we wouldn't finish the feta and had it boxed and bagged with extra toast before we were done with our entrees. Nice, attentive, detailed. We both looked at the cocktails and wines and saw nothing that interested us. We're not big drinkers, but were surprised. Usually an expensive place has something for us. The tables are very large. We were on a date, but we felt too far to have an intimate conversation. My wife skipped a few topics because it felt too public to talk about them. I do not disagree with paying a lot for exceptional food. I came in expecting to drop $200 on dinner. I wanted to wine and dine my lovely wife. But Benchmark was not exceptional. Wow--what an incredible experience from start to finish! Marcus D was our server, and it was obvious he truly loves what he does. He guided us through the menu with expertise and genuine passion, recommending an amazing starter, delicious entrées, and some fantastic cocktails. We ordered the blackened salmon and asked for it to be prepared like the sea bass (which was unfortunately sold out), and it was absolutely delicious--the purée it came with might've been my favorite part! The 16 oz. ribeye was cooked to perfection, and the mashed potatoes were pretty solid too. For dessert, the key lime bar was both creative and absolutely delicious. And let's not forget the Dirty Shirley with Tito's--yes, it was really good. LOL. Benchmark was once my absolute favorite restaurant for a special night out. Unfortunately, after my most recent visit, I don't think I'll be giving it another chance. The meal was disappointing from start to finish. I ordered the **$110 Wagyu**, but it honestly tasted more like a cheap sirloin than a premium cut of beef. It lacked the tenderness and rich flavor you expect at that price point. The maple bacon appetizer, which used to be one of our family's favorites--we used to fight over who got the last piece--was nearly inedible. It was so tough and chewy that we couldn't even cut it with a knife. We mentioned it to our waitress, and she simply suggested that it was "maybe a different cut of meat." The entire appetizer was left on the plate when it was cleared, yet nothing was done to address it. To make matters worse, the halibut was overcooked and dry. When you're paying premium prices, you expect premium food and attention to quality. Sadly, neither was there. It's disappointing to see how far Benchmark has declined because it truly used to be my go-to restaurant for special occasions. My Mother in law's Blackened Salmon was good and she had asparagus and mashed potatoes. My Blackened Salmon was MEDIUM which was RAW in the center, so I ate around it. The Crabcake was Not Great. Lastly, the Ribeye...We asked for Medium but it came out RARE. Overall, wouldn't come back. Maybe in OHIO this is a staple kind of place and high end. I'm not sure, but the kitchen needs to take the time to SEASON their food and not try to cook it QUICKLY, but cook the food evenly so the inside matches the outside. Very disappointed with our dinner. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and had a terrible dinner. We have been here a few times previously and liked it so we thought we would have a nice dinner. I ordered the filet medium rare and it was cooked very well done. It looked like a hockey puck on my plate. I can't believe they would serve it looking that bad. I sent it back and waited so long for a new filet that was cooked medium well and butterflied. I didn't eat it and they took it off the bill. We were there over two hours with this all happening and our server was so busy with other tables that we were neglected the whole dinner. Also, the manager was very rude when I told her that I ordered medium rare not medium well. We will not be back for dinner. We would consider dessert and a drink at the bar. read more

Holy pork belly. They're calling it bacon, but it's straight up chunks of pork belly and I am *here* for it. Several menu items come with it, and I look forward to sampling them all. They started us with some delightful bread, something akin to a Yorkshire pudding...it was *quite* good. Heavy on the rosemary, light fluffy texture, not overly filling so you still have room for all the bacon Most importantly, served with soft whipped butter! Thick cut bacon appetizer - they are not f***in' around, kids. This was three sizeable, luxurious chunks of smoked pork belly drizzled with real maple syrup and herbs. Sumptuous! The smoke flavor really came through. A meal in itself! Highly recommend getting this. French onion soup - very flavorful, tested of onion AND beef, nicely salty, cheesy and delicious. This is exactly what you want out of a French onion soup! Would definitely get this again. Maple Grits & Bacon - wonderfully textured grits with crisped pork belly chunks and lots of real maple syrup. Almost a dessert! Another winner. Brussels sprouts - these were simple but paired so well with everything else. It was nice to have a dish that didn't have pork or maple in it to balance out the rest of our meal! A good contrast. Short rib - I don't know that I agree with what they did to these poor carrots. I'm sure they calling it roasted, but it was more...dessicated at the skinny end and raw at the top end. The short rib was good with a nice glaze, the sauce was spicy, but not excessively so. It came topped with cilantro, which isn't on the ingredients list. I'm allergic so this would have been nice to know about. Thankfully it was easily removable and not wilted. I would skip this next time tho and just order everything else. They had so many interesting looking sides and appetizers, you could easily make a meal out of them alone...we almost did! We will definitely be back again! The space was clean, bright and airy. Service was great. We waited quite a bit for our cocktail, but otherwise were well attended. We tried to order a fresh baked cookie to take home from their dessert menu, but they were out. First, Kyle our waiter, was excellent with suggestions, perfect pace of service and politeness. He alone deserves 5 stars! "Benchmark" How perfectly-appropriate this name was chosen! I drove 2.5 hr's to come dine here this week, and this is a true statement: there is no establishment in my home town to measure up to BENCHMARK in Perrysburg. Yes, I dropped a whole lot of $$$ and frankly expected to. It was for an important event, and in every aspect of the dining experience; not only was I NOT disappointed, I was rewarded for dining there. First: highest ratings to NICK, the man of the hour. He tended to our every need and then some. Other waitstaff, barstaff and kitchenstaff were personally-attentive at our table...and top-shelf. Now you must know that ALL of this place is less than perfect. If you're coming to just have a meal, be ready to sit more/less "cafeteria style" in a large open area, and yeah it's noisy. There are however just a few private booths in the rear of the seating area which are somewhat blocked off from the noise level, and there is one private room sealed off which can be reserved. I ordered the Prime Ribeye, and my date ordered the Prime Filet. Both were prepared to perfection. The Brussel Sprouts, Carmelized Onions and Twice-baked Potato didn't disappoint. Nick gave wise advice on a perfect RED to accompany the meal. (Can you ask for him specifically, if you go there?) KUDOS also to Audrey at the bar. Love ya Girl. Any restaurant, even the finest ones like Benchmark, have several food types being prepared & served constantly. I have been here several times but it has been a few years. I was happy to see they are still here and the quality is still excellent. They have good happy hour specials with food and drinks. I had the wedge salad and it's great. The bacon comes in chunks and the dressing tastes homemade. The popovers are not to be missed. They are excellent and not as heavy as other pre-dinner breads. The booze selection is vast and they make great mixed drinks. Everything I've had here is excellent, fresh and high quality. I had the shrimp and grits entree. Not the best I've had but very good. I will start with the pros... our server was good. The ribeye steak was cooked perfectly and Brussel sprouts were delicious. Now the cons... the pesto lemon pasta was too lemony. It overpowered the pesto. Also the pasta was overcooked. Or maybe it just sat too long before it was served. We literally stared at my steak and my husband's pasta just sitting on a cold counter. They were waiting for our Brussel sprouts to get done. I wish they had just served it. More cons... the deconstructed panacotta dessert was not a panacotta. It was too firm. Firmer even than jello. The crumbles were yummy but the meringue was meh. Our server took it off the bill. So that was nice. The blondie with ice cream was so hard my husband had a hard time with it and just gave up halfway through. If there is a next time, I would just stick to steak and skip dessert. read more

Benchmark is an exceptional Resturant. We have enjoyed it many times over the years, the last time being this past Monday. We had a girls night out!!! Our waiter was Nick and he was outstanding. He was very knowledgable in all areas, food and drinks/wine etc. We had the short ribs and they were delicious, those who ordered steaks said they were perfectly cooked and also delicious. Truthfully I have zero experience in high end steakhouse restaurants (does Fogo count?) so take that as you will. The price is always too rich for my tastes but we came here since friends were in town + one friend knows the owners (they are very nice people!). Started off with a cocktail. If you like liquor to punch your tastebuds with its ferocity, then these drinks are for you. Very strong, but also very good. $12 "Scallywag" is what I got. We moved to a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and everyone enjoyed its full-bodied taste. I opted for a 6 oz filet ($39) with sautéed mushrooms added ($8). A friend got the baked potato (also $8 I think) and split it with me. Mmm. I ordered my steak medium rare and they did a brilliant job. It melted in my mouth like delicious bloody ice cream (). The mushrooms were a nice accompaniment but honestly this steak needs nothing else. The baked potato was surprising - first of all, it was the largest potato I've seen (Samwise Gamgee would have gone bonkers for these tators) and covered with cheese...it was so very good. I followed it with a slice of decadent chocolate cake ($15) that can be easily shared with 2-4 people. It was, truthfully, not my favorite. But the cake was chilled and that is not my favorite way to have it served, and the frosting was a blend of buttercream & ganache - not my fave type of frosting. But I have a lot of leftovers and look forward to trying it again. Everyone else in my party was very happy with their meal. I did try the stuffed chicken and wowzers, it was crispy and delicious. The chocolate chip cookie was warm and gooey, and a great small dessert for $2! Our server Ashley was an absolute delight - fun to talk to and a great server. Nicest restaurant near our hotel, located in the Levi's commons. We heard from locals to make a reservation regardless of the day and time. I made reservations for 6pm and were immediately seated upon arrival. Great atmosphere and decor very welcoming. Our server was very nice and offered a few recommendations. I went with a local ipa beer she suggested. Very tasty and smooth. The bread she brought out was ridiculously delicious, warm and fluffy! I ordered the French onion soup... very good. I should of stopped there, but I also ordered their benchmark burger with Parmesan fries. All were good but too much food. My mom went with a filet and she loved it. Just know steak sauce isn't a thing here, they have their own house glaze that accompanies their steaks which is okay but if you're use to A1 or Heinz 57 you'll be disappointed. I decided to come to Benchmark because of the hype and things I've heard. I was expecting it to be absolutely phenomenal, but I was underwhelmed. The food was good, which is why it was a generous 4 stars, but I was expecting a 5 star experience. The bread was great, it was like a big gougère and was delicious; I wish I had more. The French onion soup was mediocre and the onions could have been definitely caramelized more for more flavor; they were barely browned and not as flavorful. I tried the king crab carbonara special, but was quite underwhelmed. It mainly tasted like pre-ground black pepper (could not taste anything else, not even a nice freshly ground pepper taste). The pancetta in it was soggy and not very appetizing; if the diced pancetta was rendered more and crispier and there was a pancetta crisp garnish, then it would be much better. The "king crab" was minimal and was disappointing because it was chewy and did not live up to being a special dish. There was also a green onion garnish on the dish which was overwhelming. The staff was nice so that's beneficial. UPDATE: After trying again and having a Prime filet the chef's way, I was thoroughly pleased and increased the rating. The steak was extremely tender and cooked to perfection, which is why I have a better review. However, the accompaniments were lackluster. The bearnaise was very tangy and there was no taste of black truffle; it was more like it's less savory and more acidic cousin hollandaise. The king crab was still chewy and did not taste that good though. The Demi was great though so that was a plus (I asked for it on the side). read more

It's fancy, with a high end menu and impressive cocktail menu, and that makes it a date-night or celebratory dream. We started with the whipped feta, and it was probably the best appetizer I've shoved into my mouth in ages. Just divine, and I don't even like feta that much. It was salty and savory, and the bread was addictive as all get out. Also delightful were the thick cut bacon slices in syrup. I opted for the 6oz filet with horseradish sauce, and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. There were no survivors. My Parmesan fries were also so lovely they didn't make it all the way home in the box before we dove right back in on the drive home. They have a great cocktail list and some of the best french onion soup in town. Love the prosciutto e melon starter and the beef carpaccio. Can't go wrong with the steaks, but if you love fish, the sea bass is one of the best things on the menu. Benchmark comes at a heftier price tag, but you're getting quality when you go.
