I was returning home from a road trip when I decided to stop in Bowling Green, Ohio to stretch my legs and grab a quick bite. I found The Clay Pot near where I parked my car and Google said the restaurant served Eastern European inspired food. Naturally this peaked my curiosity since it's not often I eat at such establishments, so I gave it a go. As soon as I walked in I felt very relaxed, because the restaurant was dimly lit and very quiet from having no customers at the moment I stepped foot inside. Eventually more people arrived, but it really felt like a fine dining experience during my stay. The menu was very simple and everything on the board looked delicious. My waitress mentioned the seafood risotto (which was the chef's special) which I decided to go with it. My meal started off with a very simple salad that took maybe 4 bites to finish and had a sparse drizzle of oil and vinegar. I'm not looking to get filled up on an appetizer of course, but it felt like an afterthought. I was however satisfied with this blackcurrant soda that I washed down my meal with because I requested some kind of unique beverage. The star this evening was indeed the seafood risotto. I try not to exaggerate my words after eating something satisfying and I had a few weeks to stew over this review, but this dish is THE BEST RISOTTO I'VE EVER HAD. Between the shrimp, the langostino and vegetables everything was fresh, flavorful and came together in perfect harmony. I'm not one to finish a pasta dish in one sitting, but I could not resist cleaning out my plate. Whatever minor shortcomings I may have had with this entire visit was more than made up for by the risotto alone. You need to eat here, it's worth every penny. read more

Devastated to have to write a negative review because this has always been an amazing restaurant and one we couldn't wait to get back to. The service was horrendous verging into non existent. It was incredibly slow for not being busy. It took forever to be greeted, forever to be brought waters, then forever to get a menu. Now let me tell you they had a limited menu because of the arts festival which would have been fine if advertised on their website. It was disappointing that stuff we were looking forward to weren't on the menu and that wasn't clearly communicated. We told the waiter we were going to leave and went to voice how we wish the menu change had been displayed on the website but he walked away while we were talking. Of five entrees ordered, burgers were terribly overdone, as was the salmon, risotto was fair and goulash outstanding. Waiter was not to found after meal was served. Just finished dinner with the chef and it was absolutely fabulous!! I told them it was for my mother's birthday and they had the table set so nicely with flowers, candles and table cloth. Tget even let Mom keep the flowers which was so thoughtful. Our waiter Ben was so attentive and gave knowledgeable wine pair information with each course. He kept the dishes cleared and water filled. Chef Gabriel is definitely a people person. He shined in his element!! Each course was specially prepared for us and it was just perfect!! He presented each course and explained what everything was and how it was prepared. You can really tell how much he loves cooking. He was very passionate and talked about how much he loves cooking for people. I got takeout tonight, and unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. $22 for a naan bread pizza that was mostly basically just tomato soup as "sauce", barely any cheese, and a crust that was burnt to a crisp. Barely discernible as naan bread, basically just looked like Lunchables pizza. Even if it had been prepared better, the taste still wouldn't have been very good. Salad was also not great. I've been thinking about our experience last night at The Clay Pot having a hard time collecting my thoughts. On the one hand, the food is always good. On the other hand, The Clay Pot is always the most expensive food in Bowling Green but I've never understood why. It is a very good - but not great - restaurant. Last night we were there for a Scottish Dinner to include a tribute to the poet Robert Burns. Even though Scottish food is pretty basic with inexpensive ingredients, The Clay Pot charged $120/person that did include 4 scotches (but each was easily less than 1/2 of a shot). I'll put that aside because, as I said, The Clay Pot is expensive. My issue is the timing of the entire evening. I was there with a group of 4 and the dinner was scheduled to begin at 6. Granted, there was snow yesterday but we were on time as were most of the other diners. For some reason they decided to wait until around 6:30 to begin the program waiting on the last guests to arrive. This threw the whole evening off to include the main course of Balmoral Chicken which came out dry at around 7:45 p.m. We finished the main course and desert and thought there would be a few more toasts and and dinner would be over. Instead, the master of ceremonies then launched into a long (20+ minute) presentation about Robert Burns. At 8:20 we were then told a few musicians would come up to begin playing Scottish songs. At this point we needed to leave as all in our party get up early in the morning - and we had already been there for nearly 3 hours. I have no idea when this crucible ended. For this event, including a mandatory 20% service charge and a $19 charge for using AMEX, our party of 4 was charged approximately $625!!!!! We were not offered any reduction for the drink we did not receive nor an apology for the dinner running late. I'm still trying to wrap my held around this and justify the charges based upon the evening. To The Clay Pot management - respect your customers! Tell them how long they should be prepared for a dinner like this. You may find that a 3+ hour dinner on a Wednesday night is not a great idea. MOREOVER - respect the diners that show up on time!!!!! If you are going to hold dinner for the stragglers to arrive, change the program and make up some time. My wife and I (and our dinner guests) were so disappinted by last night. I don't think we will be coming back soon. read more

I was lucky enough to catch a write up on Naslada Bistro in The Blade, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I wasn't disappointed; it's a little Bowling Green gem! For starters, we had the caprese salad. It wasn't the greatest, but it was a good effort. It had thick slices of mozzarella layered with tomato and spinach leaves. Unfortunately it was a little too lite on the basil. For my main, I went for the grass-fed beef clay pot with rice pilaf. It was scrumptious! The beef tasted like a good cut of steak - it was lean with a really nice flavor. The pilaf accompaniment was delicious as well. My fiancee went for one of their chicken dishes, which was cooked to perfection and very tender. We washed our meals down with a couple of glasses of red, full bodied Bulgarian wine. The wait staff were really on the go when we were there, probably because the place was so packed. They didn't miss a beat with our service though! As other reviewers have stated, Naslada Bistro does have a nice European feel to it. They've done some cobblestone wall paper on one of the walls which looks a bit kitsch, but still does the job. I'll definitely be a returning customer when I need another Bulgarian fix. read more

This place is great! All of our food was delicious. We started with a house sangria, the grilled feta, and the olive plate. The olives were in a tasty oil, the feta was served with nice warm bread and perfectly seasoned. When the main course came out, a nice Whistle Pig Rye was also ordered. The chicken piccata was a very generous portion, packed with flavor and cooked right! The special was venison ribs, and it did not disappoint. They were a great medium rare, served over a root vegetable mash with asparagus on top, adorned by a delightful citrus glaze. The herbs were noticeable on your palate, but did not overpower the dish. Best meal we've eaten in Bowling Green for a long time! My husband and I had the house side salad with delicious dressing and great house red blend wine. He loved his chicken piccata while just thinking about my lamb burger still makes my mouth water. Soo good! Even though we arrived less than an hour before closing, our server was so friendly, prompt and attentive. We had never been to the area and found this restaurant on a road trip by searching on Yelp. The Clay Pot is tucked away in the downtown area near Bowling Green State University campus. We were very early to dinner, there was one other person eating when we arrived. A homey lounge area is inside the front door before you reach a well-stocked bar and the dining area is in the back. The bartender invited us to sit anywhere. Staff scurried to make us comfortable with ice water and printed menus, but a menu board on the wall caught my eye before we chose our table and I already knew what I wanted. The Veggie Pot was prepared vegan -no dairy for me, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his lamb burger. Both entrées came with a deliciously crisp, fresh salad served first. As we were eating more patrons began to arrive, and their food looked great coming out too! The kitchen was accommodating. I appreciate a chef who knows how to turn out a perfectly seasoned vegan dish and took half of my big serving back to our hotel- it was wonderful! I would definitely like to go back to The Clay Pot whenever i'm in the BGSU area. read more

Was a big fan of this place in the beginning but most recently went on Valentines Day weekend. They had a set menu of 4-5 entrées which was fine but what was disappointing was not only the prices but the small amount of food for that price. Most were $50. Our bill was over $120 and we were still hungry when we left. In addition, the server who brought us our food obviously had just came back from a smoke break because he reeked of cigarette smoke. Not too appetizing when you're eating food. Also noticed their regular menu prices had gone up on most entrées from $38 to $43. The food here is good but not NYC prices good. This is Bowling Green Ohio. Concerned they are going to price themselves out of a business if this is the direction they are going. We drive from Findlay so probably won't be back which is disappointing since we had been eating there for almost two years. read more
