But it would not shut. As anyone who owns a Sub-Zero knows, an alarm sounds when the doors remain open, and there's no way to turn it off. So, every 30 minutes or so, the alarm kicks in. Needless to say, I wanted this fixed promptly and correctly. There are only two certified Sub-Zero repair services in my area. I called one, and the wait was about 10 days. When I called Best Appliance, they were able to send a technician in four days. It was difficult living with the sound of the alarm, but early Monday morning, Dennis arrived on time and immediately assessed a problem he'd seen before. One side of the railings were stuck because of ice. He went in, took the railings on both sides apart and cleared the buildup. There was no ding, ding, ding, ding while he worked or when he finished. He also recommended I buy new railings. They had been updated and improved, he said, and they were much less likely to have this problem. I'd had my Sub-Zero for 10 years, so I took the advice. He installed them two days later. They glide much more smoothly than the ones I previously had. I paid about $650 for parts and labor, and I'm delighted with the value I received. He answered all my questions and gave me a couple of tips that will come in handy. I highly recommend Best Appliance.

When we found out family would be visiting for spring break it was time to get it professionally repaired. Wakehub was quickly available and when technician Kiryl arrived Thursday he meticulously checked everything on the dishwasher before discovering, after pulling it out and turning it on its side, that apparently a rat had chewed all the way through the pump hose and also built a little nest under my dishwasher! Yikes! Kiryl said this was not a part that he kept in stock because it is so specialized, but he could order it and should be able to install it in about three days. I told him that we had really hoped to get it fixed before company arrived in two days. He then looked through his supplies and found a pump hose, unfortunately the measurements were off so it would not work. He gave me a very reasonable quote on the repair and said he would do everything he could to get it done before Saturday. The next day, Friday, I was pleasantly surprised upon receiving a message from Kiryl saying he would be here in 30 minutes to install the part. True to his word, he arrived and took about an hour to replace the part and show me how the dishwasher was now working. What a relief! It would give me an error code and turn off. Then over the years it became turning it on 5 times. When it was 8 times I finally but the bullet and called Zajic Appliance repair where we've bought new appliances and had them repair appliances in-home. When I said "Thermador" to Zajic i heard air being sucked in on the other end and it was like I had said my appliance had a communicable disease. "Nope, we don't work on Thermador, try X." I then called X and they said "No, we stopped working on Thermador but try Microwave and Appliance Repair," and gave me their number. I was beginning to think that Thermador was the Edsel of appliances. I was very relieved that the helpful and friendly voice on the other end assured me they did service Thermador appliances. I scheduled a diagnostic appointment ($88 9/24) and a week later the repairman came. He was very calm and competent, and got to the bottom of the issue with a new cooling fan part needed. I also found out the model number and the age of our oven (18 years old!). They called to update us on the price of the part and labor and we scheduled the repair appointment. A week later he returned and put the part in. A wall oven is not simple to repair because it's in the wall, but our repair person did an excellent job and I am thrilled to report that the oven turns on without fail, it turns on to temperature about ten minutes faster, and it cooks much more evenly. A total win. With the part and labor we paid a little over $400 for a dramatically improved oven. Very impressed! I was afraid to call about the oven for 7 years because I just assumed we'd need a new one, and I wanted to make do for a while longer. After this experience I would encourage you to call for a diagnostic, you'll never know what can happen and it might be something that is more affordable than you would guess, and will make your daily chores much more productive and less stressful.
