Later on, when asking about the condition and origin of the car, he was very candid in mentioning that even Carfax does not report the vehicle to have been in an accident, based on his experience, he volunteered that the vehicle probably was on an accident based on certain indications in the body of the vehicle. I get pretty nervous about buying used cars but left with a positive experience at Sammy's. We were looking for a low mileage Prius and they had several to choose from with good prices. Lupe help us around the lot and let us test drive several vehicles. She answered all of our questions and was very laid back. There was no pushy salesman stuff at all! We finally chose a Prius we wanted and started in on the paperwork. It was then that we found out that the vehicle had been in an accident but was repaired and did not have a salvaged title. This shook me at first but they answered all the questions I had. They also offer a 2 day window for you to change your mind on the car. I took it into the Toyota dealership the next day and it passed inspection with flying colors. We were also trading in our old Prius but Sammy's offer on it was very low. He urged me to try and sell it myself on CL. I'm quite busy though and didn't want to float the extra money. He then took it on trade and told me to list it anyway and said that if I found a buyer we could come back and redo the paperwork. That is exactly what we ended up doing. We live in LA so he was even kind enough to show the vehicle to a few people for me who called on it. After finding a buyer, I was able to sell the car for $2600 vs the $1700 Sammy could offer me. We re-did our paperwork and Sammy even helped us write up a quick contract with the couple buying our old car to make sure we had all of our bases covered. Here's the short version of this review: Sammy is a smart businessman and a real car-person. He is using his competitive advantage as a smart buyer as well as his low overhead costs to give you a great, straightforward deal. If you are a savvy shopper, Sammy is the #1 dealer in the area. If you are unfamiliar with car buying and do not intend on learning, go ahead and pay the premium for a Certified Pre-Owned dealer that will give you a warranty. Here's the question everyone reading reviews is wondering: "Why are his prices so low? His lot looks sketchy and I feel like he'll screw me over." Here's why: Sammy buys very low at auction. He does not run a big building, a big lot, and does not employ a ton of people like dealerships. He has a smaller inventory of cars at any given time, and the inventory moves very quickly due to the nature of his business. As a result, he can sell cars for much less and still make money. The price you see advertised online or on the window sticker is basically the bottom of his price range. You can expect him to drop the price a little more, but not much. He advertises cheap to draw people in, and is not as flexible as other dealers in price. Even at the display price, you should be getting a good deal (do the comparisons yourself and you will see quickly). Guarantees: To my knowledge, his dealership does not provide any guarantees aside from whatever warranties the car comes with. Unless you go to a CPO dealer, this is pretty much the same as you will get from other sellers. The difference is that he and his team are smart buyers and know cars of all makes and models very well. I have heard him and his buyer argue over a purchase of a perfectly good car. This does NOT mean all of the cars he sells are perfect. You are still rolling the dice by purchasing a used vehicle. HOWEVER, Sammy will let you thoroughly test drive the vehicle and spend time with it, whereas other dealers will put you on a set route and rush you inside to use their sales tactics on you. Service: Sammy is there to make money, but is not a scumbag salesperson - quite the opposite. He is unabashed with his opinions and will advise people buying outside of their price range to straight up not buy a car. If he knows you are making a compromise on a car, he will tell you to go elsewhere and get what you really want. If you're having trouble with financing, he will help you through the process. He worked with me over a week to secure the best rate possible for me. If he knows the banks are trying to screw you over, he will tell you that too. If you can't get a good rate through his banks, he'll tell you to go somewhere else. He won't sell you a car if you can't get a good rate (unless you demand it). Sammy, the guy running the place, is the single most earnest salesperson I have encountered in my time. The people he employs, like Lupe, are top as well. Here's how you shop smart with Sammy: Know your stuff about car buying. Know what all the stuff on the CarFax means. Maybe get someone like a mechanic or a friend who knows cars to look at your intended vehicle. Shop and compare prices. It's a grueling process, but it's worth it to know if you're getting the best deal. Compare similar vehicles at dealerships, and you will see that Sammy sells at a few thousand less. Compare OTHER VEHICLES Sammy has, and look to see if the price discounts are similar to the one you're getting. If you have a few thousand extra to spend on a CPO vehicle, or are highly risk-averse, or can't reduce your own risk by shopping smart (you should learn!), then that's okay.
