I used to absolutely love Samosa Garden! It was one of the few places in town where you could get a full meal for $10 or less. Whenever the older woman was working, she was always kind and accommodating, even making dishes that weren't on the menu, like chole bhature. However, more recently, her daughter has been the only one running the restaurant, and unfortunately, the experience has changed. She's been unpleasant to interact with, unkind to customers, and even overcharged me for my meal. While they still serve the best channa in town, the poor customer service makes it hard to justify going back. After speaking with some of my Punjabi friends, I learned they've had similar experiences with the daughter, which is truly unfortunate given how good the food is. read more

I would ask for extra chapatti (to pay for of course) and she act as if it were a problem. I ate at samosa garden a lot. I even brought friends here. She was always mean and acted as if we were bothering her. I had eaten there so much, she knew I wanted to purchase extras and she would hurry up and close out my order so that couldn't order extra. I thought as a business owner you want the sells. I'm not a rude or aggressive person so not sure what issue she had with me. I honestly had one of the worst customer service experiences here. The behavior from the staff (especially the woman working there) was completely unacceptable. She was rude, dismissive, and acted like customers were an inconvenience instead of the reason the business exists. From the moment I walked in, the attitude was cold and unwelcoming. When I asked simple questions about the menu, I was met with eye-rolling and short, irritated responses. It genuinely felt like she didn't want to be there and didn't want customers there either. On top of that, the service was slow and disorganized. There was no sense of professionalism. Instead of fixing issues, there was defensiveness and more attitude. A business can survive average food, but it cannot survive consistently bad behavior and disrespect toward customers. I don't usually leave reviews like this, but this experience stayed with me. My partner and I arrived around 7:00 PM on a weekday, well before the posted 9:00 PM closing time. When we entered, the restaurant appeared open and a staff member was wiping down tables as if preparing for guests. We greeted her, but she appeared visibly startled and quickly moved behind the counter. When we asked if they were still serving dinner, she initially said they were closed. When I pointed out the posted hours, her explanation shifted to saying they "usually close early on days like this." The change in response made the interaction feel uncertain and uncomfortable. Her demeanor throughout the exchange felt uneasy and unwelcoming, and we did not feel comfortable staying. We chose to leave. We are Black professionals who came in politely, greeted staff, and simply asked about dining availability. Nothing about our behavior was disrespectful or out of the ordinary. The restaurant has dine-in seating, mostly booths, and the space felt minimal and quiet, with no other customers present at the time of our visit. After leaving, we went to another nearby Indian restaurant and had a completely different experience--clear communication, a warm welcome, and attentive service. Both restaurants were empty when we arrived, which made the contrast in service and interaction even more noticeable. I'm sharing this because small moments in customer service matter. Tone, body language, and consistency in communication can completely shape how a guest experiences a business. I hope this restaurant reflects on how guests are received and communicated with. BE CAREFUL OF THESE SCAMMERS!!! Went in and ordered a dozen samosas, that's 12 counts. The old lady who's also the owner tells me there is a 10min wait, so I waited. She's come back with 6 fresh samosas in a to-go box and proceeds to add the rest from the warmer in the front. As I watch her add 4 samosas from the warmer I start to wonder whether my count was off so as the owner closes my to-go box I remind her "I asked for a dozen" she acknowledges with a "yes" as I look at her in doubt she then says "open it, open it, open it," as I open the box she IMMEDIATELY changes her word and says "I charged you for 10 since that's all I gave you," I tell her why when I asked for a dozen she without thinking it's nothing asks ME to add the difference in my already paid receipt as she proceeds to put two more samosas that she should have done in the beginning. Despite being in business for so long such people are so greedy for that extra dollar. SHAME!!! Will be sure to report this business to BBB. read more

So you get what you pay for. If you want cheap Indian food that lacks taste Samosa Garden is your spot. The older lady at the front is not very friendly either. While Samosa Garden is famous for their sweets especially during Diwali, they also offer some great meals. I stop by here almost every other week just to pick up some samosas. Whether it's to hold me off until a late dinner or to grab a bunch to take fishing, they are just as delicious the next day as they are fresh. I have tried a few of their entrees such as their goat curry that's 100% delicious. I was totally amazed at the amount of take out they do. I was running errands in South Sacramento today and was looking for an affordable lunch that wasn't fast food. The reviews online were so polarized, which made me a little skeptical, but I love Indian food and decided to give this place a try. I think if you live or work in South Sac, you might already know about this gem. It was about 12:30pm on a Monday and there was a constant stream of customers getting a take-away lunch. The wait was never very long and the fresh food is visible so you can consider your options as you wait. I saw that the prices were a little higher than some pictures from last year, but that isn't surprising given inflation and I still thought they were very fair. I went with a number 2, which comes with rice, dal, yogurt, aloo tikki, and I chose roti and aloo gobi as my vegetable of the day. I also had to try a samosa and, because prices were low and it was heating up outside, a mango lassi. $10 and change--not bad. The woman behind the counter was very kind and patient as I made my selections. When I asked her if I could dine in, she indicated a sign I had missed that said "take out only" but was kind enough to still allow me to eat at a table. She really didn't have to, but I really, really, REALLY appreciated not having to eat in my car. Since it didn't seem like they had staff to handle the dining room, I tried to be very neat and cleaned the table when I was done. Be advised that you may not be able to eat in, so plan accordingly. Now to the food: everything was fresh, flavorful, and and portions were very generous for the price. In fact, I couldn't finish all of the food--a fantastic value for money. The samosa is really a standout and such a bargain at only $0.85!! Completely stuffed with a delicious potato mixture that was NOT dry as I sometimes find at other restaurants and the pastry was hot and flakey. I wish I could have had room for two and even more room to try at least one of their beautiful desserts under the counter--they all looked mouthwatering. Really, this is a 4 star restaurant, but I found the staff to be so accommodating and generous in the face of so many reviews stating otherwise that it warranted a 5th star in my eyes. I actually have been to this place at least a dozen times dating back to the early 2000's; even before Yelp was a thing. Located directly in a strip mall on Florin Road east of Highway 99 and just a few blocks from Stockton Blvd., this small family-owned and operated business has been dishing out some of their signature Indian dishes for a few decades. I made my most recent visit during the afternoon of Sunday June 5, 2022 at around 2:40pm. Since this was going to be a lunch/dinner, I wanted to order enough food that would carry me through the rest of the day. The inside of this place is as no-frills as you get with several booths and tables for dining. However, with the occupancy restrictions (as of 2022), only one table was available for indoor dining. Luckily nobody else was dining inside so I enjoyed my meal when it was hot and ready. Now onto the food itself.. In all my years reviewing several business, this place has NOT changed their prices! To put it all in perspective, here is a rundown of the most popular entrees and sides: #1 meal (vegetable of the day, Dal, rice, Roti or Puri) - $3.99 #2 meal (vegetable of the day, Dal, rice, yogurt, Aloo Tikki, Roti or Puri) - $4.99 #3 meal (chicken curry, vegetable of the day, rice, Roti or Puri) - $5.99 Hot Chaats - $2.99 Cold Chatts - $3.99 Samosas - 85¢ With these rock bottom prices, you can get your Indian fix on and still be under ten bucks. Therefore, I went with the #2 meal; the vegetable of the day was Baingan Bharta (fire roasted eggplant mash cooked with spices), Dal (yellow lentils, tomatoes, & spices), Indian white rice, yogurt (also known as Curd or Dahi), Aloo Tikki (sweetened boiled potatoes with curry spices), and Roti (round whole wheat flatbread). I also went with one Samosa (fried pastry complete with spiced potatoes, onions, and peas) that included sweet & sour sauce and Cilantro Chutney spicy green sauce. I completed my order with a 12 oz. can of soda. After tax & tip, I spent an unbelievably low $9 for everything. My samosa arrived in just under 2 minutes while my main entrée was brought out within 7 minutes. Everything was piping hot while it smelled amazing. The aromatic scent of the curry might be too much for many people but not me as I love eating all curry dishes from different countries. The eggplant was seasoned very well while the Dal had a perfect consistency; much like a creamy lentil soup. I particularly enjoyed the Aloo Tikki as I could easily consume a few of these without hesitation. But the real winner was their Samosa as it had the perfect crunchy batter on the outside with that spicy potato compound complete with peas & onions on the inside. This is why people order these by the dozen and at only 85¢ each, I can see why these are a big hit. All in all, "Samosa Garden" is reasonable, affordable, and excellent option if you're looking to dine on a dime, literally. The older lady (who I believe is the owner) that took my order is the one to go see as she has always treated me with respect during all my past visits. Many people have complained about the lackluster service with her daughter being disrespectful to customers. As I never enjoy critiquing a business based on am employees' behavior & attitude, customer service can go a long way. Wow, I discovered this hidden gem while visiting South Sacramento. This restaurant serves family seasoned food not all the masalas you get at a typical Indian restaurant. This is a take out only restaurant despite having tables and chairs. You can get a dahl, subzi, rice, and a roti or puree for $4.99 or add yoghurt and a aloo tikki for $5.99. For 2024 that is unbelievable value for money. I didn't think there was a restaurant were you could get a decent meal for $5. They do not provide water, you can buy water bottles. I had Chana Masala, Eggplant subzi, rice and a roti, it was filling. I also had 2 samosas which are 85cents each - again amazing and tasted good. I will return. 5 stars. read more

We visited this place during one of our visits to Sacramento back in 2020. During this trip we really wanted to eat some fried food. Yelped and found this place. We drove there and ordered a chole bathura. They made fresh bathura on the spot, which is always a plus. Chole was very good too. There was a side of onion and pickle, which went really well with the bathura. They had a lot of different curries on display, a lot of desserts and appetizers too on display. Their samosas looked really delicious and we will try them when we are in the neighborhood. The staff was friendly and attentive. Pricing is very economical.
