I was in town for the might and decided to try Mr Dosa for dinner after checking Yelp for restaurants near me. It was a Sunday evening. The place is spacious and nice. As it was my first time at Mr Dosa, I asked for recommendations and another customer said the goat or lamb. So, I ordered a curry lamb dosa and goat biryani - medium spiced. Sook took my order. We hired Mr. Dosa for a dinner party at our home, and we absolutely loved the live dosa and so did our guests! Madan and his staff were friendly and courteous, with quick setup and fast dosas. Two weeks in row, the biryani does not meet the standard expectation. How can someone make basmati rice sticky? Did they use jasmine rice for biryani. It wasn't separated. It was all clumped up. And the taste was horrible. And recently they gave me lamb biryani instead of chicken. They mixed up someone else's order. It's such a waste of my money. I've been craving Indian food. This place is tucked behind the Walgreens on Franklin and Laguna Blvd. Walk inside and the smell draws you in. My husband and I stumbled on Mr. Dosa in Folsom after an evening of paddleboarding. It quickly became a favorite! We had never tried Southern Indian food before, having settled comfortably with Indian Food for white people basics. You know our type - butter chicken, saag paneer, samosas. But alas my tastebuds are so grateful to be introduced to something new at Mr. Dosa. I'll admit that I had to google what a "dosa" was when we first came. I figured that if it was in the restaurant name, it must be good, but I had no idea what to expect, or what the differences were between the many variations of dosas. In fact, I still don't. I did learn that a dosa is sort of like a big crepe you dip use to scoop masala potatoes then dip into one of the 3 accompanying sauces. That's about all I know so I suspect at my next trip it will be time to try a different one. We returned to Mr Dosa when my husband's friend came to visit at Christmas, but ventured to the Elk Grove location instead. They were so incredibly hospitable despite us showing up for a rather late 9:30. pm dinner when they closed at (I believe 10). Some of our faves so far have been the chicken lollipops, pani puri (so fun to eat!), cheese dosa, paneer tacos (my husband's fave, he hasn't fully graduated from Americanized Indian food if I'm being honest), mango yogurt beverage... There's a lot more I'd like to try! I don't think you can go wrong with any order. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

Great find in the Folsom area on way to Lake Tahoe , looks like newer India restaurant in this area. We had the chicken tikka dosa (nice and tasty) and the talapakkati goat biryani!! She's a very picky person so if she loves a spot she'll start coming often. We started off with pani poori and it was delicious. DELICIOUS food was eaten here. I came here with a big party of 8 plus 1 child, and everyone enjoyed the food. The prices for the portions are extremely reasonable. Even all the curries had so much meat in them (not just a few chunks of meat like you normally see in Indian food). The boneless chicken briyani was packed with flavor, and so much meat. The chicken was very tender and cooked well. We ordered the chicken vindaloo and butter chicken, both really good. The chicken tikka dosa was actually the least favorite of our group, we just didn't really care for the texture of the wrap. The naan is very fresh, soft but crispy at the same time. We also tried the onion pakora, chicken 65, and samosas (these had a little kick surprisingly). All so good. We were the only party inside the restaurant, but there were a lot of DoorDash and togo orders. The restaurant itself is a good size and very clean. Also, they only charge an automatic 15% gratuity for parties of 5+, I normally see at least 18-20%, so that was nice to see. I've tried many Indian spots, and honestly I think Mr Dosa is my favorite one so far. I live in Sacramento and they have a location in Folsom, so I think I would try out that location. The food was good! The Tandoori chicken and fish were wonderful. Very flavorful and moist. The roti was a little dry but it was takeout and not just out of the oven fresh. Butter chicken and Tika Masala also very flavorful. Chicken tika burger was good but the sauce did make the bottom bun very mushy and the fries were also soft. Samosa Dosa tasted like a samosa. Mango lassi, rose milk and lemon soda were refreshing. I would like to go back and try some other dishes. If you are not a fan of heat get the Tandoori pomfret. The food is always delicious here. I have been working my way through the menu and it is all just awesome. Very good flavors from ranging in whatever heat level you prefer. The dosa is so good but I recommend eating it at the restaurant, not to go. The chicken fried rice was super sneaky good. If you want Indian food, this is the place. I usually do takeout here, but I did dine in once so I did get a chance to try stuff like a dosa and the pani poori, which won't travel well. The inside is nice enough. Clean. It's fairly small inside, so there's usually just one person who serves as host, server, and works the register for takeout (granted, I usually stop by during an off time 4-5p). But even with the one-woman show, the service is good. The food doesn't take too long to come out and it's not hard to flag someone down if need be. Here's the food I've tried over my visits - samosa chat: this is one of my favorite things. It looks like a mess when you get it as takeout, but it's so good! It also doesn't look like the picture on the website when you dine in. Lots of flavor and texture. Not at all like a regular samosa since they'll take a regular samosa then smash it up and smother it with wonderful sauces and chickpeas. And they give you various sauces on the side to eat with it if you choose. They ask the spice level (mild, medium, or spicy). I get this one medium but most times it tends to be almost too spicy, but it's so good, the spice doesn't ruin it. But their "medium" spicy does vary from visit to visit. - pani poori: I've actually only had this dish a couple times ever. And it's a winner. Flavors are not as bold, but they're still great. And it's nice and light, so it makes for an excellent appetizer. - chicken tikka masala: they ask how spicy you want this, and I just eat it mild bc I've never had a spicy version of this dish before. It's a solid rendition of this dish. The chicken is usually nice and tender with only a hint of dryness. - chicken vindaloo: this is a nice dish if you want something less creamy than the tikka masala but just as tasty. Thumbs up. - vijayawada chicken biryani: good stuff. Not quite as flavorful as the curries, but it's still a good dish and worth trying. - garlic naan: it's garlic naan, which is to say it's good and you can't really mess it up. I'll usually get some to sop up my curry. - chicken tikka dosa: I'm disappointed to say that my first dosa experience at Mr. Dosa was not a good one. I've never actually had a dosa before so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I just didn't care for it. It wasn't nasty or anything, it just wasn't nearly as tasty as any of the other food I've had here. Maybe I'll try another kind of dosa one of these days, but this will make me think twice before ordering another. So. Give this place a try. While I can't say I eat Indian food very regularly (a few times a year?), this is probably the best Indian restaurant overall that I've ever had. read more

We don't go out for Indian food often, but we love butter chicken, and we just watched some videos about dosa, so of course it was the perfect time to try out Mr. Dosa! They are hidden amongst some other hidden gem restaurants behind Walgreens. Despite being pretty early for dinner time, there were a few other tables already dining when we arrived. They have a full kids menu which is great! We picked the chicken fried rice for our kids to share, and any meal that my son will eat meat is a win for us, and he loved it! The butter chicken here was so creamy and my favorite part was that the chicken itself was actually so tender. It is a pretty small dish though and it's more like a single portion rather than the family style I was expecting. We ordered it medium spice and it wasn't too overpowering. We tried out the side of parotta with it, rather than getting our usual naan, since we wanted to try something different. It was good but I think I'd stick to naan because it has more thickness to scoop up sauces, but the shredded and light texture of parotta is nice! We also chose the egg dosa which comes with chutney sauces and a lentil stew. My favorites were the tomato and coconut chutneys with the dosa. I wish the dosa itself was crispier though, and I'm not sure if it was because the egg was maybe weighing it down, or if the dosa just isn't normally as crispy here. They have so many options though so I am definitely willing to give it another shot! Our server was so sweet and she checked on us often. Great service and food came out pretty quickly. What's not good here? First off for those that are gluten free. This place has amazing offerings. Their dosas are fresh and ingredients are amazing with great dipping sauces. They do serve other more traditional Indian meals , however they are somewhat different in flavor than what you would expect. Not sure if it's a regional thing or something else specific to the spices they use. For example the tandoori chicken is notably different than other classic Indian restaurants. Personally I would stick to the Dosa's and try different one. Our favorite is the chicken tikka however also enjoy the potato one equally as well. The service at 2pm was perfect. Not too many people in the restaurant however and only 1 server. Not sure what they do on a busy night. Ambiance is typical for an Indian style restaurant. Indian music playing overhead. After a friend visited this restaurant I was inspired to visit the next time I was in the area. This restaurant is located off of Laguna Blvd and Franklin Blvd behind the Walgreens. The menu was organized in different food types. I think it had quite a good amount of vegetarian options too! Eventually we ordered a mango lassi, dal makhani (includes a side of rice), chicken tikka dosa and garlic naan. The mango lassi was so refreshing. The tang of the yogurt base came through and was a nice balance with the creamy mango. Not too sweet which is a compliment. The dal makhani had so much flavor. I ordered the dish with mild spice and it was still so tasty. My local restaurant stopped offering this dish so I'm so pleased to have found this on the menu. It actually tastes better than the other place. The chicken tikka dosa was also wonderful. The chicken was moist and had a ton of flavor. I liked the convenience of how the dosa was wrapped. The dipping sauces were a nice pairing but I didn't necessarily feel I needed them. The garlic naan was prepared nice and crispy. The garlic flavor came through but as someone who loves garlic I might have enjoyed a little more. The restaurant is a small, but because I ate an early dinner I didn't have any trouble finding a table. The restaurant started filling up but everyone was seated as they came through the door.
