I'm irritated when I read reviews about restaurants and people just complain about the server being rude. The lady at the front counter was very pleasant when I went and had food there the other day. Maybe it's 3 1/2 stars they don't let you do partial stars. The food that I got is less expensive than some of the other places nearby but all the food is in the hot well that's a dish out of so it's not cooked right when you order it. But that's also the case with more expensive restaurants they just serve out of the pot in the back. I thought the food taste pretty good the only bummer was the goat meat stew had a lot of bones in it. Recently I had an encounter with the daughter and it was the worst experience EVER! I called ahead to order samosas and was told that phone orders are not accepted. This place is okay. We came by on Diwali for some snacks and sweets. The building is old and run down, we tried not to judge a book by its cover but in this case it was accurate. We got samosas, chat, pani puri and some sweets. Samosas and their sauce could've been way better. The chat and pani puri lacked flavor. If you're looking for a true good hole in the wall but authentic Indian food spot this is it! I used to come here a lot as a kid but just went back recently and the quality of the food has not changed. Their samosas are just top tier, I can't find anywhere that can get the outside crunch but inside softness down like they can. And their red and green chutneys are definitely delicious. But OMG, this last time I went with my husband they mentioned they were making some fresh jalebi's and let me tell you, they were soooo good! Definitely going to be coming back soon for more! On that same trip we also got a few pounds of their other sweets for our guests. Why has this place been hiding from me??! Samosas are among my favorite appetizer on the planet! Coworkers told my hubby about Samosa Garden so we hopped in the car on a whim in hopes of scoring some hot pockets of goodness! Takeout only so I waited in anticipation in the car and hubby returned with the goods within minutes. I opened the bag and the container with excitement like it was Christmas morning. The aroma swiftly escaped out of the box and filled the car and I quickly decided these babies will NOT be making it home! As I took my first bite and began my descent into euphoria, the hubster replies, "Oh babe guess what they were only $0.89 each." Immediately jerked back into reality (euphoria over!), I replied, "$0.89!!! And you only got six??!!!" Hubby hopped out the car and raced back in before my blood pressure spiked and got more samosas. Hubby got back to the car, "There were only three left after I purchased these." Once again I said, "You left three?? Why didn't you wipe them out, they are $0.89!" Worst customer service ever. The mother & daughter are so rude and they team up against customers. They will yell at you and talk down to you and are incredibly rude. They overcharge people and if you say something they will kick you out. They also charge $1 extra for using debit card. most places charge $0.50 which is pretty standard. If you order samosa tikki chana and order extra samosa/tikki they will charge you $0.89 extra for the extra item plus $1 extra for sauce that you didn't ask for. I think mcdonald's only charges like $0.25 for extra sauce. these guys charge $1 and they don't tell you either. They assume extra samosa/tikki also means extra sauce and they charge you extra without your knowledge. That's called being a chor. They are thieves stealing from the community they serve. read more

Customers! Beware of spoiled sweets! So I've been coming here every now and then. I still enjoy the savory food and the inexpensive prices. My most recent purchase of the sweets though were far from my expectations. As usual I had a combo meal but this time I bought two types of burfi along with it. First one was okay... had an off taste to it but it was still alright but the second one with almonds and pistachio on top was basically rotten. It was not smooth and creamy like I've experienced in the past. It was stringy, dry and tasted spoiled. I spit it out right after. I hope I don't get food poisoning after this. This place is literally the OG in everything from sweets, snacks, chaats, curries, etc. We have used them for years for all of our larger events, small home birthdays, and everything in between. The lady working there is always so nice and accommodating! However, I do see a lot of rude entitled customers come through this place now more than ever who are ready to complain about everything. Don't believe any of these one star ratings. Go there yourself and try some tikkis, samosa, and some sweets to start... you'll see how delish it is. Every year during Diwali we look forward to visiting the seasonal sweets room in the back which is set up self-serve style and they charge you by the pound in the end. Look at the pictures, it doesn't even look right but didn't open the box before I ordered. I had placed the order on the phone. Anyway, I called them and the girl who served me picked up. Well well if your a vegetarian and your on a budget i suggest you come check this place out! I don't know why i am sharing my secret spot but i think i must love y'all and sharing is loving. Well i like coming here because the vegetarian plates are pretty awesome and tasty. The last couple visits i come have come here for the number 1 plate combo. This is hot it works.... It comes with basmati rice, veggie of the day which you get to choose from the hot food selection. Comes with a scoop of lentils in curry as well. A roti which is baked wheat bread or Puri which is deep fried in oil wheat bread and this one is my fav ! I have gotten the eggplant and potatoes in curry which was quite tasty and the texture is creamy and melts in the mouth. Goes well with basmati rice and puri bread. The last few times i was hooked on to the Curry tofu and peas with rice! Tofu really fills one up and last me the hole day where I'm not really hungry and tend to eat lighter at night. I have gotten the meat one as well which was curry chicken where the flavors were similar to the vegetarian dishes but i prefer vegetarian plate over the meat combo. Difference between the breads roti and puri Roti is a bit dryer in my opinion, but it is more healthier. Reminds me of a wheat flat pita bread or tortilla which is wrapped in a foil paper and its steaming hot! Puri is a bit more moist and its a bit chewier. It is dipped in the oil according to what they say. It is a bit more oily but its delicious. The texture is great and chewy which i really like. Goes well with the curry lentils because they love to keep it saucy and your bag will leak out yellow curry. Desserts and Pastry No problem, if you want to find an authentic display case filled with authentic mysterious indian treats, here is the place which carries it. Lots of them are made with nuts such as pistachios. They have over 15 kinds which is for sure. Lots of different colors as well. They sell them by lbs, basically after a few times i have observed people buying one piece of each kind to figure which one is there favorite. I got the green pistachio one and i loved it with my Starbucks coffee. Hint hint: Don't expect a veggie combo plate on tuesday because they code early At 5pm. They don't serve combo plates but they do serve little snackies such as samosas and desserts. The day i came here i just got 2 samosas with curry split peas on top of it and kept it so saucy that it was crisp when i got home. Then they topped it off with raw onions and red sweet sauce and green salsa sauce as well. Flavorful and quite filling snacky! All for 2.99! just beware of the dungeon dragon raw onion breath! Overall this place do dine ins and they have quite a bit of seats. Most of the tables are booths. parking is spacious and quick! I will come here just for the veggie combo plate which i love and its a bomb arse deal in my opinion. If i feel extra hungry, i will just add a piece of veggie samosas which is .85 each. We visted Samosa Garden on a recent trip to Sacramento. The food is pretty bad to very mediocre. We arrived for an early dinner a few days ago to an empty restaurant. The restaurant itself was not much to look at, run down and old. However, sometimes the best food comes out of hole-in-the-walls, so we decided to try it out. The counter was not very appetizing, with its display of old-looking curries of the day under a heat lamp. A young girl, around 13 came up to take our order. She also perpared and served our food! Her mom and brother were sitting toward the back of the restaurant, watching t.v. which was blaring so loudly, we were almost forced to yell! We ordered a few chaats, including bhel puri, samosa chaat, and a chole batura, which is chick pea curry with fluffy fried bread. We also ordered a pound of sweets. The food was very bland. The bhel puri was a bit stale. The samosas were old as well, and the crust was more hard than chewy. The batura was ok. The curry was very bland but the puris were good. The sweets are a hit or miss. The pistachio burfi was very good, as was the coconut burfi. Skip on the cham chams as they are way too sweet and syrupy. Also skip on the stuffed gulab jamuns as the filling had a weird, dry, not-sweet texture. Ras malai sucked as well, the milk being very watery and the rest not so good either. The people were nice, although I can't understand a 13 year old doing all the work while the mom was watching t.v. in sweats and slippers. It seemed more like we walked into someone's home rather than a restaurant. The food is not worth going there for. The super loud t.v. was horrible and very distracting. Being Indian, we know good Indian food and this place doesn't serve it. Even if we went on a bad day, I can't expect a good day to be any better. Proceed with caution! read more

Ordered the number 3 combo plate: goat curry, basmatli rice, and potato curry vegetable dish. And a side of somosa. All were great tasting, the curry mildly spicy. We were going to the Indian grocery store nearby when I found Samosa Garden on Yelp. We decided to stop by and check out the samosas. Boyfriend got samosa with channa and it was pretty good- 2 big samosas with lots of toppings. Pretty good deal for $3. I'd get the samosa again if I was in the area. We also got some jalebi that was very good (and super cheap-$1 for 5 or 6 pieces). Here's where things started going downhill though- they also had chaats and I couldn't resist getting some sev puri. I was pretty disappointed in my food. First of all, it wasn't made correctly (no actual papri), potatoes tasted like they were on their way to going bad, and the chutneys were pretty bad too (the tamarind chutney was bright pink and watery and the green chutney was just ok). Of course, my standards for Indian food are pretty high, but this was pretty bad. There seemed to be a lunch Thali option for $4-$5 which is pretty cheap and would probably fill you up. They still had their buffet food out and none of it looked mind blowing. Overall, great samosas and jalebis for Rey good prices. Don't try the chaats though, you will be disappointed. read more

Located in a strip mall plaza on Florin Rd. (near Lindale Dr.), Samosa Garden is a hole in the wall restaurant with cheap Indian food. They have several well sat-in booths, tables, and an old TV set. When you walk in (to your right), they have baked goods encased as well as hot food under lamps. The menu is posted above on the wall and the lady working there was such a sweetheart. She even gave me a little of one of the veggie items just so I could try it. They take cash or MC/Visa ($5 minimum charge). Pass the counter is a little table of plastic utensils, napkins, and a water cooler. The place definitely fits the area. It should be no surprise walking in. I was not expecting this place to be an express restaurant, so when my group walked in thinking we'd sit down and get menus we quickly realised we were wrong. They had very basic selections but their prices are so great--I doubt anyone will pay more than 7 dollars for a huge meal. They had some meat selections (I think only chicken curry?) and we wanted chicken tikka masala so we left--but not before trying one (ok, a few) of their samosa. For 85cents it was a GREAT deal, probably one of the best samosas I've ever had. The two dipping sauces were perfect compliments as well. I also tried their potato pancake--not a huge fan given how great their samosa tasted, but nothing to complain about--and one of their carrot candy thingys. Everything was under 1 dollar and I paid 2 something for the little carrot candy, potato pancake, and samosa. They charge 50 cents for every card transaction but their prices are so low that it doesn't really make that much of a different. Excellent service from the ladies working up at the counter. I only arrived back in the states a few days ago and after eating Indian food for three straight months..a girl needs a break. Yeah didn't happen. They handcuffed me and forced me to go. I ordered the Veg Plate- and I chose rice, lentils and aloo mataar, which came with wheat naan bread as well. The kind, seemed to be owner and chef of the restaurant filled the entire take away container to the brim with food. And I still ordered a generous aloo tiki on the side. I got all of this for $5.21!! Too good to be true? I got home and ate almost all of it because it was THAT good! I feel incredible after eating the food as well.
