Food is ok in the buffet but service is so poor. They refuse to bring in more food and just keep stirring the pots. In spite of letting the staff know there's no food left they still hesitate to bring in more food. The best Indian food I have ever had in Newark/Fremont area.I think best I've ever had. Open on Thanksgiving day. Raj-the clerk behind the counter was very helpful with my last minute order.Very accommodating. The restaurant is pleasant and clean.You can tell the staff take pride on what they do. The food is to die for. Goat curry(very tender/not an old goat)butter chicken and samosa are very good. I have to try out the rest but I am sure I will not be disappointed. I have found a new favorite Indian food restaurant. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves Indian food. Vegetarian friendly score: 9/10 We have ordered before from Samraat and really enjoyed their Palak paneer and stuffed parathas. But this last time I ordered paneer masala, dal, egg biryanis, kulcha and garlic naan, they completely missed my naan order. It's unfortunate we realized it after opening up all the food. When I saw this pop on on Yelp, my first thought was "yet another Indian restaurant in this neighborhood". However, I was pleasantly surprised by the food and the experience and I am glad they are here. The naans were very good and the malai kofta and the paneer tikka masala were flavorful. They gave us complimentary gulab jamun which was very nice of them and was yummy too. Just based on the food, I would have given it 4 stars but bumping up to 5 since the owners and employees are super nice and seem to be fighting an uphill battle to survive due to the high costs and competition. I'm rating this 2 stars because I payed almost $17.00 for dry basmati rice and my dish that only had 4 PIECES OF CHICKEN and mostly sauce. We had to keep asking for it which came right away but it was cut in 4 pieces and there were 6 of us so we had to keep asking for more. As we've already exhausted most Desi options in the area, we're down to those with just a few reviews. Happily, Samraat easily exceeded our quite low expectations. BUTTER CHICKEN - Chicken cooked with sauce made from butter, tomatoes, almonds and spices. This was just about the most by-the-book butter chicken one could ask for. Nice creamy sauce with subtle spice notes. It wasn't particularly fascinating, but there were basically no mistakes, though I would have preferred larger, more tender chunks of chicken rather than the slightly dry shreds. LAMB PALAK - Boneless lamb pieces cooked with spinach and onion. Once again, it tasted just like you'd expect it to taste. Nice smooth consistency, hearty leafy flavor, generous chunks of lamb. The lamb was only very slightly tough, whereas I would have preferred the melt-in-your-mouth approach. YELLOW DAL - Yellow lentil cooked on slow fire, seasoned with herbs and spices. This was a nice treat--much more flavorful than standard dal + water. It contained chili, tomato, and subtle spice combinations that really hit the spot. NAAN - Leavened white bread baked in tandoor. Pleasantly soft, warm, and supple. It didn't have the slightly charred edges or consistency that you get with a real deal tandoor, but it was about as good as it could have been considering. JEERA RICE - Aromatic rice cooked with cumin seeds. Pretty standard--nothing out of the ordinary here. GULAB JAMUN The owner was kind enough to offer a complimentary sample of gulab jamun. Ironically, this was the only item that we didn't care for. It was quite standard, but to me gulab jamun is just about the hardest dessert to make properly--it easily ends up tasting pre-made, tough, & sickeningly syrupy, as it did in this case. It wasn't awful, just representative of why I never order this dessert anywhere. ALL IN ALL: Very safe Indian cuisine that would appeal to the masses. Virtually no mistakes were made. There was little if anything daring or bold here, but it should fulfill the everyday requirements of most customers. And for that I was satisfied. read more

We went here with high hopes of getting excellent Punjabi food. We ordered the combination kebab which were awful except the tandoori chicken. The reshmi kebab, chicken seekh and malai kebab were overcooked and dry. To make matters worse, they smelled of eggy. I even complained to the owner and told him he can take it back we aren't going to finish it. Additionally we ordered Karahi chicken which had no salt. I came in for the 8.99$ lunch buffet. I work near by and get off at 2:30pm so I came over right when I got off. I was worried that there wouldn't be much food left seeing that it closes at 3:00pm but when I got there I was happy to see that they had plenty of food left. I was talking to one one of the owners as I was filling up my plate with all the different types of curry. He told me how they had a smaller restaurant before and had a lot of success catering and decided to move to a larger location. Some of the curry didn't look as appetizing at first, but it looks better after you give it a bit of a stir with the ladle. I thought it was great how they offered garlic naan for the buffet. I love garlic naan. But I do have to say the naan they have here is thinner than how I like mine. I like mine a thicker and more doughy. The naan was good when it first came out but got too crispy after it cooled down. I liked all the curry and the lentils. I thought it was awesome that the buffet offered goat. But sadly the goat was pretty tough. taking small bites made it easier to eat. I'm not that picky with my Indian food and this seemed to be a pretty good deal. 3.5 stars rounded up read more

Ordered delivery from my hotel while on a business trip, as I am a lover of all foods ethnic, and so I had a hankering for Indian food. Now, I don't have a car here and was too lazy to get a taxi, hence why I chose delivery. However, those who know me know that....I. CAN. EAT. So when you give me $25 worth of food, I will eat until I explode, which I did. I ordered the Garlic Naan, which was delicious, although I wished there was more Garlic involved. Minor detail and it could be that I couldn't taste it since I burned my tongue on the food for being too impatient to wait for it to cool down. It was steaming hot, which was a plus. I also ordered a salad, Chicken Vinaaloo, Samosa Chaat and a small Taj Mahal beer (I told you...$25 worth of food). I can handle my food quite spicy, so that's what I asked for with my Vinaaloo, and they hit it right on the mark. Not only perfectly spicy, but it tasted amazing! The Samosa Chaat was something I had never had before, and if I hadn't already been full from finishing the Vinaaloo and afraid of having a heart attack from the food sweats, I probably could have eaten it all. The salad was a salad, and I'll be honest....I had two bites because it was just an order to get me over the $25 mark. Fish pakora is mixed with coloring powder not tasty, chicken tandoori was smelling bad, samosa was not fresh it was right out of frozen pack looks like, biriyani was so dry and not tasty at all, paneer tikka masala was not fresh it was mixed with left overs. Honestly, really good food, fair price, and good portions. We ordered delivery and the food came faster than predicted which is great. It was hot, had good flavor and we were very satisfied with the dishes we got (chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, samosas, garlic and regular naan). Granted these are pretty standard dishes, but there was great depth of flavor and still some heat even in the mild selection. UPDATE: the third time I called, I got a different person on the phone. He was very apologetic and offered no excuses related to delivery drivers. He simply told the truth: the restaurant was very busy and couldn't get the order out in time. He offered to deliver the order personally and arrange a refund through GrubHub. I accepted, and seven minutes later he showed up to deliver the food. The food was very fresh - it obviously hadn't been sitting in the driver's car. Delicious food! We ordered through Yelp/GrubHub and were given a 40-50 minute delivery window. An hour and a half later, we still don't have any food! The order would only have been 25 minutes late. Alas, twenty-five minutes later, the driver still hadn't arrived. I called back. Lunch Buffet Everyday! I came on a Thursday afternoon before the lunch crowd and enjoyed the lunch buffet for $9.99. I love naan and chai tea- so pumped that it was included! It was a great way to sample Indian food without committing to dishes. I'm a chicken tikka and chicken masala fan. Samraat did not let me down. I got some samosa, paneer, fish pakora, curry chicken, fish curry, and sweet dessert. The fish is so tender here. There was goat curry too, I'm not a super fan or goat. I was there today 09/022/2018. Ordered a mutton biriyani and fish curry for take out. This the worst biriyani I have had i my entire time in Bay Area for the past 11 years. No salt whatsoever both in the biriyani rice & meat. We weren't able to even finish half of it. The fish curry at least had some taste int it compared to the biriyani but it was just looking and tasting like a standard butter masala gravy with fish in it. So creamy and sweet, this is the first time I have had such a fish curry in my entire life. If you are looking for good food then you know what to do. What's food without salt. This place is close to work for me. My co-workers and I like to come here when we are craving some Indian food. It's not the best I've ever been to. This place is a hole in the wall and the service is a little lackluster. The buffet food is decent - flavor and spice is there. They bring out the naan "fresh" - supposedly they make is fresh for you but other Yelpers report a rubbery texture so I'm not sure. I don't get a little of everything. I know what I like and I just get that. I usually get the samosas, butter chicken, paneer, and naan. They have tamarind sauce for the samosas, but I wish they had mango chutney.
