I've been here twice, but I won't be back for a third try. The food is just OK and the options are more limited than most "country" buffets. The place is clean but very old. Our waitress was very nice and helpful but all the waitress really does in a buffet place is bring your drinks. Many buffet restaurants include a drink in the price, Sam's does not. The first time through the buffet line there was no fried chicken, so I sat and ate my side dishes for about 10 minutes until the chicken was replenished. Checked this place out with a friend. It was pretty good. You pay first then eat. A waiter brings you your drink. Everything is very no-frills and casual. The buffet starts with a salad section then moves to cooked non-meat items like potatoes and beans. Then there is the meat. They had fried chicken and baked chicken and some kind of gravy dish with fried meat in it. They also had ribs. Lastly, there was a dessert bar with lots of options. we tried this place late on a Sunday and as bad as I wanted to say it was good. It was just OK. The food was presented well and the restaurant seemed a little dirty. I was a little concerned about some of the dishes as they appeared to be dried out, and they were not being replenished or checked on regularly in the buffet, fried chicken was good and fried crispy so they got extra for that service was not bad but the tables were dirty. Well I've been here a few times now and really want to hit it on a GREAT day. But it isn't going to happen today. It's a typical buffet which means you can get in and out pretty fast. They pay attention and keep your drink filled. The fried catfish and fried pork chops are really good - everything else is just ok. I am grateful for the fresh salad section. Nothing worse than wilted greens but this place keeps it all fresh. The veggies appear to be canned and there is not much effort to dress them up with any ham bones or bacon or good ole southern seasoning. Sam's Country Buffet has everyday staples and daily buffet additions listed on its website and on display in its windows. I enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, the cabbage, and the black eyed pea/green bean mix. The vegetables could have been cooked with more pork. The cornbread was muffin-shaped and sweet, clearly made with sugar. I was thrown off when a hot sauce other than my familiar Crystal sauce poured out of the Crystal bottle on to my fried chicken.The dinner buffet was cheap at $10. I am elated that Sam's is here and that it's so busy. East TLH is a Southern food desert. (By all means- message me if you know of a place.) Wilderness Cabin is inconveniently North for me (good, but out of sight and mind) and Backwoods Crossing by I-10 (which I ADORE) doesn't fit the mood when you want something unfussy like Cracker Barrel. First time trying this spot, but it won't be my last. No atmosphere to speak of, no background music that would help drowned out noise from the kitchen. Fog and rain on the windows, but Hold it right there, pilgrim!! Food quite tasty and my table never got stacked up with dirty plates (and I went thru quite a few) nor did my drink ever run empty!! You know I was so hype because a friend told me about this place and of course I wanted to try it. So I got the fried shrimp with choice of roll and mac and cheese, white rice and okra and tomatoes for my sides. Now to be truthfully honest the only thing that was good was the shrimp and rice. I am new to Yelp and I saw this business on here and felt it was only fair to share my own perspective of what I have found in my own experiences in Sam's Country Buffet. First of all I will share I am not really a fan of most buffet food for the most part as I have found that most serve a really cheap grade food that often does not sit well with me later, let alone the fact that much of the buffet food I find is often tasteless or severely lacking in flavor from my own experience. If I am in the minority on this opinion, please forgive me as it is my own opinion from my own experience. I travel much of the east coast of the Country and after stopping into this place when it was almost brand new for my first visit. I was very pleasantly surprised. As for other's comments on buffet line not being stocked, I did not find this at all in Sam's as I see a most dedicated Lady Manager who appears to work all the time or so it seems to me anyway literally almost constantly monitoring the buffet line and frequently restocking as needed. I say all the time as I have now visited this restaurant several times and single every time I have visited this place. I see what looks like the same people working tirelessly doing their best to get it right for apparently a most demanding customer base in the area in which they serve. I will admit it seems they have had their hands full as I have noticed a few dissatisfied individuals sharing their concerns in this place in not always the most nice way if this makes sense. Personally I find this to be quite a bit overboard because in all fairness I think these people deserve an A++++ for effort as I see them doing their absolute best to take care of every single customer and make sure everyone is happy. The staff are most courteous which really scores highly with me from a most cheerful and pleasant cashier who frequently works there to management and really anyone I have encountered in this place from my multiple visits passing through this area. The food to me has way more flavor than I find in almost all buffet restaurants I have visited and I really feel that it would be a disservice to the Tallahassee area to not take another look at what is going on here and appreciate some of their efforts and just enjoy them. This place just didn't cut it. Food wasn't seasoned and on top of that it made us all sick.

We went on opening day because I'm slightly obsessed with country buffets. I was sadly disappointed. First problem, the plates are small and they didn't have bowls. They had a chicken and dumplings dish but it would have been way to complicated to eat on a plate. The mac & cheese was spicy! Not sure if someone did this on purpose or not, but some bites were no bueno. The chicken was cooked well and juicy, but SO salty.... and I love salt. Other items were pretty decent... fried okra, stuffing/dressing, lima beans, fried shrimp. But the finale of dessert was such a let down. They only had one thing, an m&m chocolate chip cookie, which seemed like such an afterthought, like someone forgot to make dessert and they bought them at the store. Food was sub par. The vegetables on the buffet were strait from the can. Swimming in water with no seasoning or flavor. The fried fish, pork chops and chicken were way over cooked and dry. Fired chicken was cold. The salad bar and cold items had heat Lamps over them. The lettuce was wilted and turning brown. We sat near the kitchen, the door was open the entire time , so we could see everything going on. When we arrive a noticed a hotel pan overflowing with raw chicken sitting on the countertop of the kitchen. Our party was at the restaurant for over 45 minutes. The hotel pan of raw chicken was still sitting on the counter top ...45 minutes later!!! Not going back to Sams. read more

I just ate there tonight and this was without a doubt the worse buffet, country style or otherwise that i have ever eaten at. Let me be specific so this doesn't seem petty. First off $33 for me and 2 teenagers to eat and have sweet tea not too bad but not with the pitiful selection. The fried chicken was the leanest chicken I've ever had. I've seen pigeons with more meat. It was also very dry and tough, i had to take a swig if tea with each bite to be able to chew and swallow it. All of the vegetables were as if they went straight from can to pan with no real flavor. After being truly disappointed in the hot bar i decided to give the salad bar a try. Overall it looked good but halfway through making the plate i noticed there were only 3 dressings. I only like thousand island and didn't see it so i asked the lady behind the counter if they had any, all i got was a weird look and a sharp no as she pointed at the 3 mystery dressing which had no labels. I handed her my plate and went for the deserts. I tried a sampling of banana pudding, apple cobbler and watermelon. Of the three the watermelon was the only decent one. The bananas were browning up and the apple cobbler was over cooked bordering burnt. My kids would echo all of my same statements. I paid a $33 stupid tax tonight for not looking at the buffet first before paying which should've been a warning when they make you pay first. read more

I wasn't expecting much but want wanted to give this place a try. They proved my initial expectation wrong by having a great variety of vegetables and and meats that you expect on a country buffet. The place is small, but they are doing things right. Great fried chicken, fish and baked alternatives as well. Good dessert selection including cobbler and banana pudding. I have to jump in here to redeem this place. I hardly ever go to buffets because they aren't worth the money to me. I've been craving some Southern food so my family and I tried this place tonight for dinner. It was AWESOME and totally hit the spot. And OMG the fried chicken! Just like my granny makes it. They had all the typical veggies and plenty of dessert including cobbler, pudding, brownies, cookies and ice cream. Not that I any room for dessert though! Everything was fresh and hot. Meh... I know this is Tallahassee, but this place is subpar (even for this area). We paid $22.00 for 2 adults with 1 sweet tea. At 6pm the selections weren't as freshly refilled for the steady flow of customers that they had coming in. The Mac and Cheese was never refilled from the time we arrived till the time we finished (which was 2 dinner plates each and a plate of watermelon and cookies for dessert later, disappointing. The fried catfish was delicious, although not deskinned as well as it should of been. I don't mind fish skin but this was pretty tough. It was juicy, hot and cornmeal crispy. The veggies seemed homemade, yet under seasoned. The country fried steak was old and gross. The rest was so so. Not worth the price when Kacey's is much cheaper and delicious and on point about keeping fresh dishes coming out to replenish the older stuff. Also the dining ware is super cheepo, like school cafeteria plastic textured plates and tiny Styrofoam bowls. If you're starving and just want to eat quickly but don't want fast food- it might be an option. If you want comforting home style buffet- go elsewhere. Golden Corral is about the same price and Kacey's is way cheaper! read more
