Normally, I enjoy coming here. However, being short-staffed, service was not great this time. We were there for 15 minutes without seeing our server. Finally, after taking our drink stubs, we proceeded to see her clearing tables about 10 minutes later. By this time, another server from another area had asked if we have been seen yet. We told her about the situation and still no drinks. This server brought us drinks and told us she spoke to the other server. As soon as she dropped off our drinks, our original server brought out our drinks. She saw we already had drinks, asked who got them, and told us she is going to hand us off to that server, set the tray if drinks down on another table, and walked off. Steaks and pot roast were good as always. Other items were out too long and dry. I am unable to eat and drink at the same time medically, and I had to wait almost 30 minutes to eat. Doesn't look like much , I believe they need to remodel it. It is very dirty looking and the food usually appears dried out. They replace very few things as they should. So for the amount of your meal cost. The cleanliness of the store should be a must and the food fresh. The wait staff do a very good job of keeping up with the customers. I (David Zipf mijoskye@yahoo.com).am actually finishing my review of this past Thanksgiving Day meal at the GC ... in short, my family/friends spent over $200 not counting a very generous tip ... we got to the GC at 5:40PM and the food was almost gone... no turkey, not dinner rolls, no cranberry sauce, etc, etc, ... the GC said they were closing at 6pm but everyone who arrived and paid for their meal should have received the same food items for their Thanksgiving Day meal ... we didn't get what we paid for .. if you need to get out of there (speaking to GC folks) then close at 4pm or 5pm ... but don't treat those folks who purchased a meal just before you want to close any different than folks who got there hrs earlier... our $200+ only bought a few steaks and some scraps ... that simply isn't right! read more

This is not fine dining. It is a buffet that, for me, does a better job on it's meat items than it's vegetables. Yes, some items are going to look like they have been sitting there awhile. Just don't get those. There are going to be plenty of fresh items to choose from and they have a pretty adventurous salad bar that can fill in for uninspired vegetables. They do a good job on fried chicken and their pot roast is usually good. For Seniors there is the Early Bird special during the week from 2-4 with a great price including tea. If you really want to maximize your value, get in just before 4 because after 4 they will have steak and all their other evening meat items. They have a basic selection of deserts and a soft serve ice cream machine with cones available that usually gets my vote. We have always had good service here with drinks being refilled regularly and empty plates being removed. This is a good place to go for a simple basic meal that satisfies. read more

This is getting a solid four-stars from me. As a reminder, I rate much in the same way as the real-estate "comps" model. I'm comparing this to other buffets in town. It'd be foolish to compare it to, say, Yostie's Chili Parlor or Bahn Thai, right? This stands out against other buffets. Generally, in TLH, you have two varieties: 1. Chinese/Asian buffet and 2. "Country vittles" buffet. This is neither. This reminds me of the mess halls of my childhood at a couple of overseas bases (Torrejon AB and Ramstein AB). Granted, it probably leans more towards an O-Club than an NCO-Club mess hall, but it has that feel nonetheless. In large measure, it's because it attracts a noticeable number of color-wearing vets. You're going to get a lot of "Thank you for your Service" opportunities here, in my experience. The price is right. Definitely a solid value. You walk in, get your drink/receipt, and then you can either get in line right away or call dibs on a decent table while one of you holds down the fort whilst the others load up. "Loading up" options are varied. For me, the logical sequence is to begin behind the drink-stand at the reception, and work clockwise back to the opposite end where the soup vessels are found. In between those two points you'll have a broad range of choices (taco/fillings, pot roast, pizza, brussel sprouts - until you get to the meat/grill station, where there, you'll find all things protein (yes, steak is available at the temperature requested. I know, since I'm the "medium-rare" or "rare" guy and consistently get it spot-on. Salad bar is not Jason's Deli, but it's good. Dessert Bar is where the market is cornered. The chocolate fountain is clearly a draw - and there's the full spectrum of desserts to boot. You'll find me/us here 2-4 times annually - but I understand why folks might visit more frequently. read more

It's pretty good but you have to be willing to put up with screaming kids, rude customers and messes left by nasty people who have no respect for other people or property- if you can still eat after that - try the steak cooked medium rare. It's dang good. And the salad bar is always fresh. The soft serve ice cream never works - not sure why they even try to offer it. But most of the staff is very friendly and trying to satisfy all of the above patrons which has to be the most ungratifying job ever! Leave these poor folks decent tip!!! read more

In all honesty, if you decide to eat here, you already know what your likely to get. So, shame on me. We came in on a Friday evening around 7:30pm Didn't look to be crazy crowded or busy. Took us a while to find a table that wasn't filthy but eventually settled into a booth. 15 min later our server came by and asked what we were drinking, she was literally walking away as we started to respond. 5min later we had plates and beverages and a tarted with our typical salad. The bar didn't look particularly fresh and had been generally picked over, be that as it may, we noshed on our salads and then made a beeline for the buffet. To say it was not full would be an Incredible understatement. It was a horrid mess. More items were out than filled and what was there was dried out and simply disappointing. Only redeeming quality was that the steak was decent this evening. We were sitting there in our little booth waiting for more plates, more drinks and someone who might bus the dirty plates off our table, alas no one came so, ever resourceful, I eventually took clean plates off a table that was abandoned, just so we had something with which to work. Disillusioned yet again I came to a stark realization. As I watched the variety of people pick over the trough, I suddenly realized, We paid for this. The food is sub par at best, they refill food and beverages when they feel like it, and we continue to come, we pay $18 a head to get crappy food ONLY because we can eat as much as we want. With that, I am done. I have greater respect for myself and those I love than to drag them to a feeding trough, a POOR one at that, and Watch as we all fill our bellies to capacity with crap. It's not worth it on every conceivable level. I HAVE had a decent meal or two here but the bad and the cost FAR out number the "decent" experiences. This place is a permanent pass. read more

We normally love this chain. This was our first visit to the Tallahassee one. We got here and really had to walk around to find a clean table. Once we found one my wife let me get my food first. I love wings and when i saw all you can eat my mouth started to water. I grabbed some bbq wings but saw they only had a few boneless buffalo left and those looked quite old. They said they were almost ready and came out a few minutes later. I was really disturbed when I witnessed them just dump all the fresh ones on top of the old ones. The fresh wings were alright.... somewhat dry still. The ones i picked up before that were cold and hard as if they had been sitting a while. I noticed that of a lot of items. Many other items were missing. It really made the buffet lack flavor. My wife got some chicken breast that tasted like that also. While the griller was cooking her steak he walked away to refill some items and ended up overcooking it. We then proceeded to my favorite part.....dessert! This was disappointing also. More missing items....more items sitting too long. I realize this is a buffet and i normally love golden corral but they missed the mark big time today. Terrible! Most of the serving dishes were empty. No meats and most of the veggie trays were empty. At the carving station no ham, no beef and the carcass of a turkey. I asked about the shrimp "we don't have any" I was told. This was a Sunday afternoon and I paid the dinner price for my meal, all I got was a plate of mashed potatoes with gravy so I asked to see a supervisor. The girl I spoke to said she was the front desk supervisor but she could help me . WhenI explain to her the situation she went back into the kitchen, two separate times and brought out a tray of cabbage. The lines of people waiting for food just kept getting longer. Went early for opening was way cleaner then most Golden Corral's I have been too. Our server was great he continued to refill sodas, bring coffee and clear plates. There was a great variety of items to choose from our kids loved it. From me the food is good. Stopped in for their breakfast buffet and was pleasantly surprised by the new remodel that has been recently completed. The cashier and servers were very accommodating. Ther buffet itself was clean and kept full of fresh foods. They have a juice bar that included an orange-mango blend (which was pretty tasty) along with apple juice, straight up orange juice along with another juice blend. They have a chef to create custom scrambled egg dishes as requested by patrons. All of the choices to add to the eggs are right in front such as chopped peppers, chopped onions, chunk ham, etc. The buffet bacon was crisp and not soggy. And to top it off, it was way over priced for the food I got - my bill was $17 for the buffet, no drink. Service was not great, food was disgusting and way over priced (even if it was cheaper I still wouldn't eat it out of respect for my own health), and the restaurant itself was dirty. We came here on a Thursday evening for dinner and there not many people there. Should've served as a warning to us. Do yourself a favor and take your $20 and spend it at Masa next door. Although they have a bright, new interior, the quality of the food still suffers. The cornbread was down to the last 4 pieces which were hard as rocks. The cauliflower was cold enough that the butter I put on it didn't melt. The fried chicken was good though I think folks who like juicy chicken would probably not like it. There was one piece of pizza that from a quick glance seemed to be lacking in red sauce and actually looked cold (this may only be my impression). The black-eyed peas were pretty good. Their famous yeast roll had way too much butter on top. Mine actually slid out of my hand. I wound up holding it in a napkin to eat it. I didn't check out the desserts. We ate here last night. I'm not expecting a gold star dining experience out of a buffet, but I did expect more than what this place delivered. Outside it's clean enough, heck, inside is clean enough. Our drinks were refilled, and the server and hostess were nice. (I'm not a perfect parent, but I would take my kids home and dish up a lunchable before I'd let them run crazy like some of what I saw). The desserts were pretty picked clean when I got my salad, but I figured they would be replenished by the time I finished. They were not. As for the nightly steak, I don't think the grill chef could have been less interested in grilling if he tried. He looked incredibly bored to be there, and moved at a pace that would make a sloth grimace. The entire time we were there (?25-35 min), I saw maybe 10 people get a steak & if you didn't want it rare, it wasn't happening. The line stayed full, 5-7 people waiting at all times. My husband ended up carving his own portion of whatever it was he was eating, some type of pork. The food just never seemed to get refilled & what did got taken the minute it was set out because, there were so little choices full at the time. I don't see why people hate on this place. It's a buffet, it's not fine dining. I have been going here often on for years the salad bar is pretty amazing with a good selection of Romaine, spinach and iceberg lettuce with plenty of toppings. The rotisserie chicken, when it's fresh, is some of the best rotisserie chicken in Tallahassee, I think even better than Boston market. The fried chicken is really good too I would say better than Publix chicken. The food is hot and the dessert is really good. I grew up with a father who worked in Navy galleys as a cook. Golden corral reminds me of my youth at the galley or the buffet of the sea. lol Another great thing that Golden corral does is provide free meals on Veterans Day to veterans my hats off to them. read more

Everything was okay, just okay. We went for the senior early bird which I guess means only lunch. Dinner doesn't start til 4:00. Waiter brought unsweetened tea even though we had ordered sweet.
