It's called the Tasty Crab but it wasn't as tasty as I wanted it to be. Unfortunate, because I really wanted to enjoy this place, but I was hoping for a stronger flavor from the mixed option on the seasoning for our bag. The crab fries, however, were delicious. And I can't knock it in any other way. The restaurant felt very clean, accommodating to quiet groups and larger parties. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more attentive. I wanted to enjoy it, and maybe if I ordered again I would have a different experience. But I probably won't be back, there are other seafood boils in the area with a stronger spice palate. Mid seafood boil spot at best. Had a very disappointing experience on a Thursday right after work - wish I would've went to Krafty Crab or Poseidon Boil. None of the seafood in my boil bag was relatively fresh, the sauces are extremely bland unless you go extremely spicy (I'm assuming). My date and I ordered a pound of snow crab legs and shrimp on the mild combination sauce alongside a crown/Coke and a strawberry Margarita. The drinks were extremely watered down while the seafood was old- seen plenty of black dots all over the back of my crab legs and some on my shrimps which is far from the standard. Yesterday was our 9th anniversary, and we went to Tasty Crab on West Broad Street in Richmond. I loved my company, but I would give the restaurant about 2 1/2 stars. The crab fries were good, but I ordered the jumbo crab legs, and they definitely were not jumbo. My meal came with just one small red potato and one small piece of corn. My husband said his food was just okay, nothing to write home about, and it was a little on the cold side. I definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant. read more

This was my first time trying seafood broil, and it was such a fun experience! I can't say whether or not the price was worth it because I don't have previous experience, but I thought it was great. This evening was my first time at tasty crab with My Wife. It was an early Birthday Celebration for Me as a gift from my wife. We were served by our waiter Alfred. First off this is definitely an experience. You have to try to sit down and have a seafood boil with an area that allows you to make as much of a mess as you want without getting a drop on you because they make sure you have bibs on gloves and a slew of napkins. You actually get to enjoy your food and have that great toddler experience of not having to clean up after yourself which is AWESOME as an adult!!! ... Our waiter Alfred was so hospitable, patient with us, explained the menu in detail, very sweet making recommendations and after discovering it was our first time even made wonderful, helpful suggestions so we can enjoy our experience at tasty crab, even more. The butter, garlic, red sauce in the seafood boil is a must the spices go perfect together and as somebody who is allergic to spicy food which is me I had the "mild". This was perfect for me because It was not spicy at all instead it was actually very very flavorful and tantalizing to the taste buds. I had the sauce on the side as suggested by Alfred, which was an awesome idea. I was able to dip every piece of food that I wanted to be dipped into the sauce while still allowing me just to taste the seafood alone, which by the way was super flavorful on its own with its own seasonings. This is just a hands-down, a wonderful experience of having upscale food, but not having to get dressed to the nines just coming in comfortable regular clothing being able to laugh and enjoy yourself have good drinks and a great time. For reference, we ordered the classic seafood boil which was crab legs, shrimp, corn on the cob with potatoes and sausage. Alfred was just such a wonderful server and I want to thank him. Decent looking place. Was expecting more people to be inside cause places like this tend always be busy. Service was good. Seated right away & tended to. The host & waitress did beyond expected. The vibe was a bit dead. Not much people & felt kinda empty. However. The food? Never coming back. I have high standards on how quality of food should be. Coming from Cali & having a bunch of Cajun/Creole boils homemade & from restaurants, seafood boils should NEVER look like how it did here. First, I want to say that when this restaurant first opened, the food was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, over time the quality has noticeably declined. We hadn't visited in about a year, and after returning today, we were reminded why we stopped coming. I ordered the classic boil bag with the sauce on the side. I usually love the sausage that comes with it, but today both pieces I received were cold in the center (I substituted sausage for corn, so I had two pieces). I informed the waiter, and he promptly brought out two additional pieces, but unfortunately those were also cold. The crab legs seemed old and were difficult to crack, and the shrimp was cold as well. Even the sweet tea tasted as though it had been sitting out too long. I do want to mention that our waiter was very kind and apologetic. He offered to have fresh food prepared, but by that point the overall experience had already been disappointing. Additionally, the ladies' restroom had a very unpleasant odor, which added to the negative experience. I had the fried flounder basket with cole slaw and tartar sauce. The portion size was huge! I could hardly finish half of it. It came with fries too, which were good as well. Nice and crispy. The decor is nautical, and the ambiance casual and welcoming. Service was pretty slow, especially to start, though they were busy, and our server was very friendly. I wasn't super in love with the dressing in my caesar salad, and the berry passion fruit cocktail I had on happy hour was extremely sweet, so I couldn't finish it. I had a really good experience at the tasty crab. I ordered the crab fries and they were awesome. The service was really cool. It's a local family owned spot and the family who owned it could not have been nicer and cooler and they really went out of their way to make you feel welcome and also treat you like a friend which I think is really cool. The ambience was really nice as well and pretty upscale compared to other seafood type restaurants. Everything is always amazing here I have been a customer since they opened and still is a loyal customer I always recommend them.

The exterior is unassuming - located in a strip mall. But the interior is pleasant, clean & crisp. Lots of distance kept between tables while we were there. Our server was superbly pleasant and attentive! I went for the hush puppies and they sure delivered. Not too big in size, but large in taste. Hubby & son were in it for the crab. They shared the three crab medley and finished off every last bit of seafood, potatoes, corn and sausage. We were glad we got the sauce in the side. Did use it for some dipping, but also happy to just enjoy the crab unadorned. Note: have to admit that I appreciated the gloves for use in digging in. read more

We tried this place for the first time after searching my handy dandy Yelp app for seafood restaurants. It was a 30 minute drive from us, but the reviews gave me confidence that we wouldn't be disappointed. We didn't go crazy with ordering. We wanted to start small just in case we didn't like it. So, we ordered fried shrimp and fried fish with hush puppies as sides. I loved my shrimp and hush puppies. My daughter liked the flavor of the fish, BUT she did not like the bones in it. They need to let customers know that there's a lot of bones in their fish so that they can order something else should they have an issue with that. Needless to say, my daughter didn't eat the fish & it went to waste. I shared my shrimp & we went to another restaurant for her. Smh. I will definitely go back for myself though. We came to Tasty Crab for lunch on our anniversary. I ordered crab legs and sausage with garlic butter, the last time I checked garlic butter should be yellow, not red and they forgot the sausage. Definitely a reason why it's called Tasty Crab. I've seen this place here for a while and have not had the chance to try this place out until my friend suggested it. Located on Broad Street, next to BDubs in the shopping center. Happy hour was happening, and I decided on their Strawberry Basil Margarita. Since we are a fan of the seafood, we decided to try and split an order of the soft shell crab and Crab Lover Bucket. I'm glad I let my friend order because the original seasoning had the perfect amount of spice I could handle! The crab legs were cooked to perfection - especially where you can pull the meat out of the shell...YUM! The service was super friendly and helpful when we couldn't decide on which bucket to order. The place is clean and glad that they provided the bib, gloves and numerous amount of paper towels. I will definitely be a returning customer! read more

Tasty Crab 3/25/2019 4:23 pm Monday I was greeted and seated promptly. This was not surprising considering the time and day. I immediately noticed that my menu was filthy because at touch it felt gritty (see photo). I ordered the Pedal Paradise cocktail. The regular price is $7.50 but since it's happy hour it's $2 off. Drink is citrusy and refreshing just a little too citrusy for me. Can't taste alcohol at all. As far as appetizers there'tos no real appetizers. Crab dip would have been nice. They said the crab cakes was an appetizer but that's $14 which is a little too expensive for an appetizer. So that's settled for the hush puppies which were actually quite tasty. I ordered the Crab Lovers for $42. Alaskan King Crab, Dungeness crab, snow crab legs, corn, potatoes, sausage. This was filling to say the least, however the only thing I didn't like was the corn, it tasted old, it was kind of chewy. The waiter was great and very attentive. Will I come back? Definitely not, especially after my visit to the bathroom. To me the food is not worth the money and the drinks were soooo weak. Not to mention the place is just dirty.
