I got the daily scramble (asparagus, ham I think, and white cheddar). It was so delicious! Ambiance was really cute but honestly the food was not good and overpriced. Maybe we came on an off day but I got a breakfast burrito and it had no taste and was way too expensive for what it was. The French toast was pretty good so I'll give them that! Overall the wait was really long and our food was not worth the hour wait. Service was okay- they were nice but got my friend's order completely wrong. I'd say they need to add more seasoning to their food. Today was the first (AND LAST) time we visited this place. WTH? Self service central. You want water, coffee, or hot sauce? Go get it your own damn self. I'm surprised they brought silverware and napkins to the table! You're out of iced tea? Too bad! The empty glass will sit in front of you throughout your whole meal, even though when the "waitress" brought your meal, the glass was already empty. Now, on to the food! Just say no. I ordered the breakfast burrito, which was so dry and BLAND. Their homemade salsa was good, but you need WAY MORE of it, to make that burrito tasty. Hubby got some very bland biscuits and gravy. Basic Breakfast... food was excellent. Plenty of food to eat. Good portions. The service was excellent. Our waitress checked on my coffee and was not annoying. There is no indoor seating. The ambience outside was fine. It was cold, but there was an outside heater that warmed things up. All in all it was a great breakfast for me and my wife. This is a wonderful breakfast/lunch spot with a spacious patio. The wait was 30-40 minutes on a Saturday morning around 10:15. They don't use an online waitlist so you should expect to wait around in person. (A bonus is that they have a few benches to sit on!) I absolutely loved the House-Made Corned Beef Hash and Cinnamon Currant French Toast Sandwich. I would've liked some peppers or onions in the hash as well, but it still tasted delicious. I also appreciated that the toast was already gently buttered for me. Service was decent, but because it was so busy, it was sometimes hard to flag down the waitress. I asked for ketchup for my eggs but got hot sauce instead (and then 10+ minutes went by with no waitress looking at my table). This didn't take away too much from the experience, though. This is my new favorite fried chicken sandwich. Have you seen my other reviews? This is a BIG DEAL. My cutlet wasn't even warm, y'all. I dunno if that was intentional or not but it DOESNT MATTER. The flavors were incredible, the chicken was perfectly breaded, the bread was soft! The amount of Mayo and red onions was masterful. My mouth is watering thinking about itttt. The ginger butternut bisque is dairy free and was good for my soul. You can choose a side salad or soup of the day with a sammie order. My spouse got the scramble of the day and he gobbled it up real quick. I was worried about the outdoor seating and didn't realize it's all outside but OUR SEATS WERE WARM FROM THE HEATERS! They're on during the day so it didn't matter that I wore a light jacket. And I got to pet two very big, nice dogs while waiting. Service was good considering how busy it is! Been here a few times and fir the most we enjoyed it. Went there this morning and how things have changed. Before the waitress would come around and fill your coffee and take away the empty dishes. We had to get up twice and put our dishes in some containers I assume used by the waitresses. Saw the waitress only when we ordered and when she brought the bill, won't be coming here for a minute after this experience. This place is located at a walkable distance away from where i live, and Im very happy to find such a cute place that has a long history and provide authentic food. It's not a typical fancy, coquette brunch place you would go after church with your bestie, but definitely, an authentic place that gets you hearty food with great service to local customers. It seems like many customers are local citizens who've been patrons for a long time as well. Food: Their specials are different time to time, but menus are stable items that have been consistently served as their main. Their hot sauce options are very inclusive to those who prefer specific brands. I really appreciate that. My husband had the Collard greens and I had the fried chicken sandwich with tomato soup. Holy Cow! This has to be the best place in Albany to have a decent breakfast. Sam's Log Cabin, you have done a fantastic job on the outdoor dining. Working off Gilman Street I needed a place to have breakfast (I had a three hour gap at work). I came here because Nation's Giant Hamburger in Berkeley didn't have indoor dining until 9am. I wasn't going to go to El Cerrito Nation's. Bette's Oceanview Diner didn't have indoor dining and I wasn't going to risk eating on 4th Street since it was a busy area. What I enjoyed about dining outside was the heater being provided. I was kept warm 8am. My service was great. Sam's Log Cabin has a lemon and orange garden where their drinks are freshly squeeze. This has to be a big plus to have freshly squeeze juice that came from their garden and not provided from a bottle that came from a grocery store. CAUTION: This establishment is NOT senior/disability friendly. Food was good, but as a local, this business should take cues from restaurants in neighboring Berkeley or El Cerrito (I'm surprised the City of Albany has not intervened). I arrived with my senior parents. My father uses a cane and my mother, a walker. We were seated at a table in the rear, very far from the entrance. The pathway was not fully paved. When we were seated, we were asked by our waitress if we wanted something to drink. We ordered 1 coffee for dad and 1 water for mom. Mom was told to go all the way back to the water station at the entrance for her water. My father was served a cup of coffee and when he asked for cream and sugar, he was told to go to the coffee station near the water station to fetch his own cream and sugar. Obviously, my parents were not able to return that long distance and unstable pavement for self-service. I actually thought the waitress was playing a joke on us! I don't understand why we were even assigned a waitress. I don't undertand why there was a suggestion to give a 15-25% tip and the end of our meal. I feel sorry for seniors and the disabled for not knowing the limitations of service before patronizing such businesses. read more

With Covid around, I don't feel comfortable dining in so was happy to read on Yelp about the spacious back patio. We came around 9AM on a Sunday and there was already a bit of a wait. The back patio garden is lovely and I appreciated that the tables are more spaced out vs. some restaurants where the tables seem like they're exactly 6 feet apart. Very chill atmosphere, a la your neighbor's backyard. We were situated next to the two amazing giant fig trees in the back. There was also a stage set up so I wonder if they had live music performances in the past. Not sure about this! We had to contest a little with the sun but they had umbrellas situated around. I was pleasantly surprised by the food. My french toast was tasty and I really enjoyed their bottomless coffee. Waitstaff was great especially the gentleman who wasn't our waiter but was so genuinely smiley and friendly (he happily refilled our coffee) that his positive energy somehow put me in a better mood. We live around the corner from Sam's Log Cabin and we been coming to this place for the last 18 years. Today we were very disrespected by one of the servers as we were waiting to be seated. With a very rude tone she said we had to check in with a person who is out side, which was not there when we pulled in. In addition, the server took in a group, which showed up after us to show them their table and ignored us completely. We had no choice but to leave. I really hope this will be addressed. read more

I am absolutely devastated to write this review. I have been coming to Sam's for 24 years. I can solidly say that I don't plan on continuing my relationship with Sam's to 25 years unless things seriously change. The staff here used to make my day. Now they are painfully aloof. Want water, coffee, creamer, ketchup, or hot sauce? Get it yourself. Ask for more syrup? You'll have to ask 3 times and wait 15 minutes. Your food will be cold when it arrives. The tipping starts at 20%, which I normally give by default. Here, it should start at 10%. The final straw was the food, which I used to rave about to anyone who would listen. Not anymore. It needed copious amounts of salt, which I have never used at a restaurant until today. read more

This used to be my favorite place to go for breakfast. Sadly, I had breakfast at Sam's not just once or twice but the last THREE times and had the same mediocre experience. Food is still delicious, albeit a little overpriced, but with all the flies swarming around, it's hard to enjoy. I mean they have a serious fly infestation! It left me wondering how clean the kitchen could be if management won't invest in an exterminator service? Also,,I don't hate the new way of serving coffee. However, on one of my visits, I was injured and using a cane to help me walk. I asked the server if she wouldn't mind grabbing the coffee for me? Her face forced a smile but it was obvious she was annoyed by my request. When she brought back my coffee, she left it at the table and rushed off.
