This restaurant has changed hands a few times over the years. We stopped going for a while but tried it again when it opened as Duo Grill. We like it a lot and have gone back a few more times. Duo Grill is a nice spot for a casual brunch or lunch. The food fare is traditional comfort food - pancakes, omelette, breakfast sets, sandwiches, crispy hash brown potatoes. Prices are reasonable as well. At our last visit, there were 8 of us so they combined tables for us to sit together by the window. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly. Orders for the group were egg Benedict, open faced crab sandwich, blueberry pancakes, Caesar salad and shredded short rib sandwiches. The pancakes were fluffy with a good amount of blueberries. Eggs Benedict were served as ordered - jammy, not runny egg - with good amount of sauce. The open faced crab sandwich is good, but they only give you one half of the sandwich (one piece of bread). We were splitting this dish and would have liked to know this beforehand, as it was not enough for 2. However, it is nice they don't charge you extra for sweet potato or garlic fries on the side, and both were wonderful. The Caesar salad was average, would not order again. This used to be Walker's Pie Shop back in the day! The new restaurant looks a lot like the old place. The food and service are excellent. I ordered the Hash Bennie and my friend ordered the Florentine Bennie. I got the hash browns with mine and he got the parmesan roasted potatoes. Both breakfasts were excellent. The hash under my perfectly poached eggs was nice and crispy and not overly salty. Which if you've read my other reviews is an issue for me! The English muffin was nicely toasted and there was just the right amount of hollandaise, so the muffin stayed nice. Also, there wasn't any additional water from the poached eggs which is also a pet peeve of mine. The hash browns were good and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Pretty much a 10/10 on the execution of the food. My friend also thought the food and service was great! The service staff was wonderful. They came by to check to make sure everything was good but didn't hover. I will for sure come back here next time I'm in town!! read more

I had the homemade corned beef with hash browns, two over medium eggs and toast. It was delicious but unfortunately one egg was over cooked but it was delicious. I liked the toast was dry so I could handle the butter on my own. I brought half of my meal home and when I reheated I was still very happy. Mid. The food is mid, but the prices are really high! You would expect better ingredients at the prices they charge, on Solano no less. Pre packaged ingredients, not particularly fresh as far as I can tell. Cheap bread, pesto, veggies, (corn) syrup. We got the pesto omelet and the duo combo. Half my combo was hot, half was cold. In the end the part I can't accept was the French toast with the combo. One slice of the cheap bread, not a fresh thick slice of acme bread or similar, not 2 slices of the regular thin bread. One thin piece of bread! So cheap! Foil wrapped butter pats which I've seen for toast but never for French toast. And barely any maple flavor in the (corn) syrup. Mid food at high prices. read more

They don't gush, but I have never been treated rudely or dismissed in any way. Finally, in response to the one rating they received during the pandemic regarding getting to the restaurant at 8 am and they were not yet open. Time is relative and my watch has been off by 10 minutes before. The pandemic created novel and unforeseen issues. I tried to give everyone a break. My wife and I came here for lunch during the week. The food was good and pretty reasonably priced for Berkeley. My wife got the eggs benedict with potatoes and I got a burger. The burger was excellent, with great flavor and a very fresh tasting bun. The fries tasted like they came from a McDonald's, which was mind-blowing. Really good! The eggs benedict were well cooked and my wife liked them. The potatoes were very crispy and well made. The service was okay, we were left for a few long periods without refills on our drinks which was annoying given the relative dearth of other customers in the place. But once they saw we were looking for help, they came around to help. The ambiance is good. It's clean and well lit. Feels like it's pretty fresh and not worn in yet, if that makes sense. Probably a 3.5. Nothing bad at all, but nothing screamed out. It's a diner without the huge portions. The menu is like 5 pages long and runs the gamut of anything you could want, including a whole range of Mexican eats. Inside decor is a diner with red booths and all. A fairly large space so definitely good for groups. They have a few tables in a bare bones parklet outside. We were there for brunch and prices were reasonable and fare was solid. Nothing too crazy, but good. The green chilaquiles were good, very mild, and the veggie scrambler was a nice sized meal with potatoes and toast. Overall, with no wait, this spot was totally a solid spot for outdoor brunch on a Sunday morning when Sam's Log Cabin was 30+ minutes. Even being one of two parties there, my bf and I waited probably over 45 mins for 3 items. CHICKEN AND WAFFLES: Yall... This is not their strong suit. In what world does chicken and waffles mean TENDIES............. Very average waffles and the tendies tasted like they were of the frozen variety My bf liked their Egg Florentine Benedict, pretty standard. Open Face Crab Dungeness Sandwich was very ok, the accompanying salad was mediocre. Portions are kind of small... We ordered the mini burgers, fish & chips meal and bread pudding. The fish was perfectly balanced in preparation, flavor and texture. Although there was some condensation in the box, the fish was still crispy. I got extra malt vinegar that I generously applied to the fish and the tastiest tartar sauce. The fries were basic, but well cooked. I wish they provided more ketchup. I will definitely order again. The mini burgers were good. I definitely wasn't as impressed by the minis, but they were good and prepared as asked. There was some condensation in the box that made the bun oddly soft, but still edible. I would order again, but I'd open the box as soon as possible to reduce the chance of condensation. Bread pudding is one of my favorite desserts. It was tasty. The sauce is what made it a winner, and I'm glad for their generosity with the sauce. I'm mostly happy it was on the menu because I don't see it too often at restaurants. A must try. ** The following review reflects my delivery experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I still think of this familiar space on Solano as Walker's Restaurant & Pie Shop where I would get a slice of their homemade lemon meringue pie and then have dinner, in that order. But rather sadly and unexpectedly, Walker's closed at least a dozen years ago, and hell, I don't eat like that anymore. And with the pandemic, I can't even consider eating in there anymore. At the same time, the new owners still offer the all-American type of food Walker's used to serve but with perhaps a more refined twist except... When I see items like Oven Roasted Crab and Artichoke Dip, I think of a time when my mom would serve something like that at her Tupperware party. Fortunately they also serve entree salads, so I ordered the $16 Blackened Salmon Salad which had hefty chunks of charred salmon mixed with tomato, cucumber, and organic mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette and a lemon wedge on the side (photo: https://bit.ly/3ayhuxZ). This is the first time I have returned to Duo Grill House since my initial review. The pandemic and then life intervened. Today Nina and I met here for lunch, having walked past it last week on our way from Bowl'd to our cars and being intrigued by the menu in the window. Nina was seated and waiting for me when I arrived, having been seriously delayed by road construction on my way there. When I walked in the man who I later ascertained was the owner, Joel, recognized that I was here to meet Nina and directed me to her booth, which was comfortable and roomy. We looked at the menu and were both interested in the open-faced Dungeness crab sandwich and the shredded short rib sandwich which had interested me last time. We were both interested in salad and sweet potato fries as our sides. We told Joel we were going to split them and he said he would have the kitchen do that, which we appreciated. I had iced tea, which is made in-house, and Nina had water. When our plates were brought, they exceeded our expectations. Not only were the sandwiches split, but the salad and fries were divided too. It was truly above and beyond. We both started w/ the fries, which are best hot. Both sandwiches were delicious. The salad was tasty, w/ a slightly sweet vinaigrette and the iced tea was delicious. The diner down the way had about an hour wait, so we decided to head back home, ie back towards Duo Grill House. I loved that they had several different sides, as my diet is pretty specific these days so I was able to order a couple sides of bacon, a side of egg whites, and a side of fruit and everything was delicious. It all came out promptly with the service being quick and friendly and another plus, they even had outside seating. All in all we will definitely return to Duo Grill House, the whole experience of a Sunday morning breakfast there was wonderful! read more

This place is never busy. I think because of the perception of the place of not being busy, people pass by this place. But it has a solid menu with a lot of selection, good portions and good service. And food tastes good. Beer wine menu with cocktails that seem to be wine based like sangria, mimosa, agave margarita, etc. My sister in law wanted to come for her birthday dinner. Kids had sliders and fries. Which the fries were amazing - perfect diner fries. Husband had steak burrito, sister in law had. Enchilada and I had a cheese quesadilla. Came here for lunch today and was surprisingly disappointed. We've been here numerous times for breakfast and have always been sooo happy with the food and portions. Today we ordered the crab and artichoke dip, which was tasty and fresh. We also ordered the fish and chips for our niece, who was still hungry after because the portion was so small. My partner ordered the open crab sandwich which tasted good but definitely not worth the money. I ordered the Ribeye steak which was soooo sad, it was SUPPOSED to be 8oz...and definitely wasn't. It literally looked like a thin piece of carne asada. I was very disappointed and definitely won't be coming back to this overpriced establishment. I'm a eggs Benedict snob, and no one makes the hollandaise sauce better than me. Frankly I think their sauce is bottled for speed sake, but regardless it tastes good. I would say great but I had the "smoked" salmon, and the sauce had too much lemon that overpowered the brined salmon. The salmOn is not smoked, it's traditional Norwegian lox style, using a salt brine to draw out the fluids, however if not done correctly makes it too "salty"! Crepe Suzette down the street does the same thing on their crepes. They advertise salmon, but it's brined lox, much too salty. Service has always been excellent, parking sucks, I would recommend they remove the outside seating and free up parking. I got the last parking space and there where only 4 or 5 couples in the entire restaurant. Why put up w exhaust, loud people walking by, and the cold climate when seating inside is plentiful, very comfortable and convenient when trying to get the waiters attention!! read more

Better than solano junction hands down. Unassuming, basic breakfast place. Delish flavors even in the hash browns which you know are generally boring potatoes. Idk it's just tasty af. Oil seemed fresh, as were the ingredients. We had the hash brown hill and the breakfast burrito. Both large portions, eggs cooked to perfection. The coffee was amazing.
