This is by far the best pizza in Riverdale/Kingsbridge hands down. It's close to up there with Joe's in Manhattan. I'm not saying it's as good but it's up there. So I have noticed,that the price have changed four times in the last six months... The pizza is good, but not that good ... went from $20 ,$25. This does not include any toppings just regular pizza ... That is unacceptable ... it is not like he has a variety of toppings... Or even deliver .... The absolute best 'old time' slice you'll find in the Bronx! It's HUGE, and from the first bite to the last, you'll be licking your lips! Sam's also has Beef Patties and Garlic Knots (not a fan of their knots). They also have old school Italian Ices that are delicious on a hot summer day. Don't look to Sam's for Calzone, a Hero, Pasta or Salad, it's a Pizza Place! And, they do not delivery but you can call and place an order and it will be waiting for you. Lol No seriously, Sam's Pizza's nearly 5-star rating is well-deserved. Pizza: We had two plain slices and they were fresh out of the oven, hot and really, really good! Atmosphere: It's a small neighborhood pizzeria, so not much standing room, but surprisingly they had two small tables where you could sit and enjoy - very important with hungry, heavy toddler on your hip! Lol Inside was very clean - even the stainless steel trash can was spotless! Super important during COVID, and just in general - two thumbs up for that! Customer Service: The pizza maker (assuming it was Sam, but not sure) was super-busy with a steady stream of customers, but took the time to be really pleasant. Next time I visit, I'll likely order a pie to bring back to rest of the fam. I just left Sam's in tears. This was my family's pizza spot growing up - we ordered it for every birthday party and event, and always came here to eat. I have never in my life been treated by a restaurant owner the way Anesti treated me tonight. I ordered two slices to stay, didn't hear him when he called me even though I was sitting right next to the counter. Over 5 minutes go by so I checked if they were ready, and saw a box with two slices in it. I asked if they were mine and he practically yelled at me saying that he called me "a long time ago" and acted like it was an inconvenience. Uh, sir - I ordered two slices and you clearly had no problem giving my money order to someone else, when you knew it was mine. Did you think I disappeared or something? Then, after my meal I wanted to talk to him and all he tells me is to throw out the stuff on my tray, as if I was supposed to know that. I am never, ever coming here again, and am telling all my friends and family in the area to avoid coming back here. They were coming here before I was even born, so you've just lost dozens of customers. Sam was WAY better and nicer, and so was his product. I've stopped crying now. read more

In person, whole pies take about 20 minutes. Cons: * Cash only. I guess there's an ATM close by according to another customer but we ended up having enough cash so I can't confirm. * Pizza on the oily/soggy side toward the tip of the pizza. * A little slow to end transaction. I found the regular slice to be a little too doughy for my taste buds. Plenty of cheese, but the grease seemed to drown out the flavors a little bit. I live around the corner. I was told such great things about this place when I first moved to the block. Then I went in. The husband is nice, the wife is iffy. I hate that she never asks for she can help you. She just stands there and you're like "helloooo?!" The slices are huge, but they are extremely greasy and soggy. It's like they under bake it. This is a place that's never going to make any of the lists of best pizza places in NYC, but I'm giving it 5 stars because it's truly the platonic ideal of the New York slice. - The crust isn't too thick or too thin. It's a little bit crispy, but also a little bit doughy. - The sauce is flavorful, but not too distinctive. - The cheese is flavorful and a little salty, but not too salty. It's a slice that's sort of average in every way, but in a way that's greater than the sum of its parts. Today the male owner at Sam's Pizza violated me in the worst way possible, and it's unacceptable and should not be normalized EVER! I traveled all the way from Brooklyn, NY just for Sam's Pizza and the way I was treated today wasn't ok by all means! Upon arriving the store, I greeted everyone like I always do, and I placed an order for 2 slices of pepperoni pizza and beef patty with cocoa bread and cheese. The gentleman, possibly one of the owners of Sam's Pizza started with my order however he needed to open a new box of cocoa bread. I watched this man grabbed a white box from either off the floor beside the deep freezer or inside the deep freezer. He placed this box on the same counter you serve food. He then grabbed a kitchen knife to open this box. He struggled a little so he used his hands to finish open the box. He then took the same knife that he opened the box with to cut the bag open. Then boom!!! That's when it happened, he touch the actual cocoa bread with his hands. I became furious but held my composure and decided to talk it out instead of lashing out. I told him, "Excuse me can you grab another cocoa bread because you touch mine with your bare hand and it's not ok because of the process you went through to open it. He immediately raised his voice, "I DON'T WEAR GLOVES!!!" "Take it or leave it!" I explained to him there's no need to be nasty. We are conversing and your behavior isn't called for. He then said, "oh well if you don't like it, you can....you know!" He said it exactly like that. So I then said what are you implying because it sounds like you're choosing to kick me out your establishment because you're uncomfortable with this talk, but at what point was you going to realize you made me uncomfortable with your unsanitary practices?!?! So I said, "Cancel the beef patty and cocoa bread with cheese from out the order." Because at this point I'm simply over it. I didn't cancel the 2 slice because he didn't violate my slices the way he did with the cocoa bread. He continues to scream saying, "I DON'T USE GLOVES EVER! AND IF YOU KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT PIZZA MAKING YOU WOULD KNOW THAT YOU CAN'T USE GLOVES!" I allowed him to finish saying what he needed to say and then I spoke. I explained to him that first off all please don't assume you know me and what I do for a living. I am well aware you can't use gloves when making a pizza, and that's not my issue. My issue is that I don't know where this box came from. It looked like a delivery box. Meaning the cocoa bread was package in a plastic bag and then put into the box and shipped out for delivery by however means. I don't know if that box touch the street floor, I don't know if you was here to receive your delivery so what if they put the box on the street floor in front of your establishment? Then I watched you struggled with a kitchen knife trying to open this box and that didn't go well so you decided to finish open the box with your bare hands and with that same hand you grabbed my cocoa bread. Does that make sense sir? No it doesn't I responded, and the fact that I'm explaining a 1 on 1 Food Handling to a business man is embarrassing. I've been coming to this establishment for years when I lived in Riverdale. Because the pizza was so damn good and I loved the vibes there especially with the 2 ladies that works there or own the place as well. I continued to travel from BK to the Bronx for their services. I then introduced my family to Sam's Pizza and they fell in love as did I and we made it a weekly visit. I know everything I need to know about Sam's Pizza, but this behavior I never saw coming from miles away. After explaining all that to him he told me "Oh well I don't give a shit, I do things the way I do them and if you don't like it you can leave and go somewhere else. That's when I responded and said so you did want me to leave from the first time. Hey at least you can be honest about your feelings, but you just lost a great customer; a lifetime customer actually. And please be advised that I will call my friend who works at the City of New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. I am the sweetest person until you give me a reason. And this my friend is more than enough reasons. You carried yourself poorly today therefore consequences will follow! Hey, during COVID-19 time, you have to take your foot off the gas a little when critiquing small businesses. I didn't mind at all they served only pizza. Pizza done right and pies so big they had to fold them into the boxes. Prices were good, the ladies were pleasant, the food was served fast and it was delicious. I couldn't ask for anything more.
