Was very pleasantly surprised! We were hesitant about quality upon seeing the prices on the menu, but the food was amazing and we had more than we could eat in one sitting. I had the grilled shrimp po boy while my husband had oysters. That alone would have left us stuffed, but we were also given a generous helping of fries and his also came with another choice of a side for which he got red beans and rice. The fried fish is perfectly salted, flaky, and goes perfectly with their AMAZING homemade cajun tartar sauce (like, seriously...I could eat the sauce all by itself). The fried shrimp have a special seasoning I can't really identify, but wow are they good. The wings are perfectly fried and super crispy, but can be a bit under salted (that's easy to fix though). Not a bad restaurant at all! Very friendly people, and the food is pretty good. My own personal thing is that the food isn't seasoned enough for me. I'm a southern bell who grew up with a full seasoning cabinet, so it just may be my personal taste. I still stop in from time to time to support local businesses anyway. I still do recommend this eatery for other newcomers though. When I went, i ordered a fish plate with green beans and banana pudding for dessert. Perfectly fried, white fish and great broiled Tilapia...I can't even get into the "side dishes" CAUSE if you order the 6 piece white fish; you will have NO ROOM left to put anything else! I make a trip from Raleigh to Durham at least once a week to get those 6-8 pieces of perfectly seasoned, perfectly fried hot white fish. This is the worst restaurant fish I have ever tasted, whatever frying oil they use leaves an aftertaste in your mouth; the aftertaste spoils the flavor of all of the rest of the food. I heard about this restaurant last night and I immediately went there to get some of the good food I heard about. I was so disappointed because there wasn't any parking spaces available! A very small parking area. Maybe about 7-8 spaces and they were all filled. On the street parking is not allowed in this area so I sat waiting for a few minutes but no one can out . I drove around the building twice hoping to get a parking space but that did not happen. the drive thru did not have a menu and there was a car parked at the drive thru window. I always call in my order ahead of time. It's always done on a timely manner, hot and fresh when I get it home. The people on the inside are very friendly. It's a small clean inviroment. Everytime I order it's been gracious plenty servings depending what you order. Tonight I got a Gyro Po Boy. It was a hefty sandwich. They will fix it how you want it without charging extra. It met and exceeded expectations. I ordered the 2 piece fish n( and 2 jumbo shrimp with two side. The sides were hard to choose becasue of readin wht other Yelpers had said. I took my chnace on the potaqto salad and fried okra, they were both pretty good. The hubby got the 2 piece fish and 2 wings with slaw and reed beans and rice. The slaw was really good, it was chucky and creamy. The potato salad had a hint of bell pepper in it along with being a little sweet. The only thing I would change, we didn't know that there was seasoning shaken on the meats/seafood after it is plated. - I will ask for it to be left off next time. Oh yeah there were hushpuppies also, they were a little different from most still rather tasty, but had a wet dough consistency. Definitely a good buy for the qualitY. Well I decided to give this establishment yet another chance to impress. This time all I wanted was 6 chicken wings. I asked if I could purchase just the chicken wings without the sides. She told me no. The reason I did not want the sides becuase on an earlier visit I found the sides to be quite (dirty rice and red beans & rice) to be horrible. So I told her I didn't like their sides, she explained that I would have to pay for the sides even if I didn't get any. First of all, I'm from the Rust Belt, so the blue-collar food down here except for southern specialties is pretty lame in comparison. But Sam's is the best of all I've seen down here. The burger is fat and messy and yummy (but too much mayo -- ask for less). The four-piece fish fry is frozen because it has to be down here but it's delicious within those boundaries and the serving is gigantic. Get fries and they'll give you pounds of them. They're good, too. It'll be dinner and two lunches afterward. I didn't much care for the coleslaw but I'll just get something else next time. I can't believe these reviews honestly. Bought the oyster dinner and to my bewilderment they were fake breaded oysters the ones you get out of a box frozen and wonder what's inside. I will gladly pay for oysters but by God please make them real...so disappointed. I thought I was going to get some fresh juicy oysters battered up and fried . $10.99 for 8 frozen breaded oysters that were even smaller after you found them inside the batter. Let me stop.
