That's not been the first time as for ambiance, well it isn't in the best part of Durham, but that has never really hindered us in the past. Service: The staff was on guard and rushed over the obviously drunk or drugged woman at the counter that was causing a ruckus and was still yelling in the parking lot as we left. Sometimes I will even buy the special. Right now they have a special with fish and fries for $4.99 plus tax. Generally, it's also clean inside. Who doesn't love Captain D's !! If fish is what you are craving this is the place to go. Not fancy fish......this is the place for fried fish, fries, coleslaw. We went at lunchtime. It's busy at lunchtime. This is a good thing because it assures you that your fish will be fresh from the fryer. We ate inside the restaurant so I can't comment about the drive thru. Service was quick and friendly. Actually, the young lady who was bringing orders to the tables was checking back with everyone and bringing them drink refills. This was beyond the realm of service I would expect here. The food was delicious. Fresh fish and fries. I had green beans that were very good. The hush puppies were also great ! I love love love this place! The food tastes fresh and they bring it to your table hot. shrimp skewers, clam strips also love the okra and hushpuppies. The best I've ever had. Lobster roll is so good as well. They don't put onions and all that crap that other places do. Keeps the flavor of the lobster like it should be. Never soggy and idk what they do to the actual roll, it's buttery and a tad toasted. Also you can tell they change their grease on a regular basis. While running errands on a Saturday morning, it was around or after 10:30am we didn't get to eat breakfast and of course, we ended up so hungry after using up our energy for the entire morning. So my husband decided to hit Captain's D to order by drive-thru and the female employee told us to come back in 15 mins that we did. As we ordered two combo meals that cost us approximately $20+ however, at this point we only had $14 in $1 and $5 bill dollars along with one $100 bill so my partner asked the same employee if she could us the change out of $100 bill. She said in an unfriendly tone that she can't, possibly bc there's not enough change. Yeah really?? We left straight back home exhausted and hungry. Just passing through the city from a long drive from NJ had a taste for Captain D's so I yelped it of course and came across this location..... Wow great choice I must admit this location is one of the better Captain D's that we have encountered! We decided on the drive-thru. Workers are lively, attentive, efficient, pleasant - not sluggish or apathetic like some places where employees are unhappy. Lots of fried fish, but plates come with 2 sides so you can get a well-balanced meal here. (Mac-n-cheese and corn-on-cob are a few cents extra). Good selection in the $4.99 Full Meal Deal. The fried fish is crunchy, bit on the salty side, but fresh and clean tasting (i.e, cooking oil replenished regularly). Several grilled options, too. Hushpuppies are mediocre - I ask for roll instead. Indoor seating area is comfortable, Employees will come around asking if you need drink refills, takeout supplies, or want to order something else.
