Fried Catfish is one of my favorite foods so I'm always looking for new place to try. It was getting late and I was already driving near here when I decided to stop. There were quite a few people inside eating and also picking up orders. I order the Catfish po'boy w/ fries, to go. The restaurant is older (used to be an Arby's) and hasn't been renovated. It does look dated. My food came out in about ten or twelve minutes and I was on my way. When I got home and opened the box i was surprised to find an extra catfish strip on top/in addition to the sandwich! Not sure if that is a regular thing or not but it was a great perk for me lol! The po'boy came with lettuce, tomato, red onion, & a special sauce they make that I asked for on the side, and fries. It all tasted really good. I'd like to try something else on the menu next time.

So good. Clean fried fish. Huge shrimp. The tarter sauce was magical! The only downside was it was Smokey from the kitchen. But the food was perfect!

Fish strips, fries, green beans and sweet tea. Good southern food.

Been here several times and haven't been disappointed yet. The food is hot, the service is quick and the portions are nice. Stop by if you're ever in the Lake Charles area.

I saw a banner ad for Arby's Smokehouse Brisket sandwich when I was surfing the Internet so I decided to go to the nearest Arby's lunch. Unfortunately the Arby's location I went to had closed somewhere along the course of time and became Sam's Southern Eatery. The new place sounded interesting so I decided to give it a shot and came inside. Overall, the decor and style is not changed from the time it was an Arby's. The menu had several po boys, seafood, and chicken. Most menu items are deep fried. The staff is amicable and everyone have excellent service with a smile! I ordered the fried fish po boy, which came with fries, and a drink. The po boy was excellent, well seasoned, and included an extra piece of fish, presumably to err on the side of generosity. The drinks only came in one size: very large 32 oz Styrofoam cups. They serve Coca Cola products. While I well certainly miss an Arby's in Lake Charles, Sam's is a wonderful addition to a part of town that is undergoing economic revival and I will certainly return!

Fried shrimp and fish with fries and green beans. Order of fried green tomatoes (best in SWLA)!

The restaurant was decorated as you would expect a good Cajun restaurant to be decorated in. Service was nice and friendly and you order at the register and they bring your food to you. Service was great even after we got our food. A server asked us if we needed refills and if we wanted them in to-go cups, which scored bonus points with me! Here's what I had on this lunch visit: The crawfish pistollette (8/10) which was a small appetizer that was bread with some crawfish etouffee on top. Bread was nicely cooked and the etouffee on top was delicious. Solid starter! The Cajun Cooking Sampler (9/10) - this was a sampler with 3 amazing dishes. I got the shrimp and crab gumbo, which is classic Louisiana gumbo and it was outstanding! The sampler also had a bowl of crawfish etouffee which was good but felt it needed a bit more etoufee to mix with the rice. Lastly, the special of the day was fish courtbouillon which was a fish in tomato based sauce over rice. I really enjoyed this as the fish has a great texture and there was a lot of flavor in the sauce. Overall, solid lunch meal in the $ to $$ range depending on what you order. Recommend you trying it for a great Cajun experience!

There were three of us, and we enjoyed ourselves so much that we stayed until closing! We started with the Crab Beignets and the Bone Marrow Tartare. I had never tried bone marrow tartare before, but it was absolutely incredible. The combination of prime tenderloin tartare, bone marrow, garlic aioli, and chimichurri purée was unique and packed with flavor. For our entrees, we had the Lobster Pasta, Mushroom Pasta with Chicken, and the Power Bowl with Shrimp. Every dish was outstanding. The Power Bowl was especially flavorful, and I absolutely loved the sauce. The lobster pasta was rich and delicious, and the mushroom pasta was perfectly prepared. To finish, we shared the Brownie in a Cup, which was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Everything we ordered was amazing. Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere. Calla is definitely a place we'll be returning to. Highly recommended!

Christiano was a fantastic server and took great care of us. The menu is innovative and the flavors are on point. The steak frites and fried oysters are great, the sea bass and beef shank specials were literally to die for. And I would be remiss, if I didn't give a major shout out to the greatness that resides in both the beef and chopped salads. They're incredible. The cocktails are crafty and well made to boot. The brownie in a cup dessert was my personal favorite, but the nutty cheesecake is surprisingly light and delicious also. All in all, Calla's got it all going on and you can't miss it. Cheers!

After viewing the lunch buffet we decided to give it a try to save time. It seemed today most of the customers were locals comprised of contractors and maybe plant workers, there was no doubt this place is a local favorite. After placing our drink orders we proceeded to the steam table and grabbed our plates, most of the food seemed fresh and definitely hot, the kitchen was in the process of refilling items as we served ourselves. Honestly there was nothing bad here but after trying a few bites I was reaching for the hot sauce to jazz things up a bit. I thought the prices were a little steep considering the portions we chose, if you're one that will make multiple trips to the food bar it's probably a good deal. We felt the food quality and preparation was just okay, it's likely we would not return or travel out of our way to dine here again. The staff was very friendly and accommodating it's just not the type of place we frequent...

We arrived just a couple minutes after their 11 a.m. opening, and the place was already packed, a good sign in itself. Luckily, with only three of us, the hostess got us seated at a table right away. The exterior isn't much to look at, but stepping inside tells a different story. The interior has a sports bar meets old school diner vibe, with decor that gives the whole place a nostalgic, lived-in charm. We all decided on the Darrell's Special sandwich with jalapeño mayo, and it did not disappoint. Our waitress was fantastic the whole meal, constantly checking in, keeping our drinks filled, and making sure we didn't need anything else. Despite how busy the place was, our sandwiches came out in a surprisingly short time. The sandwich itself is a beast! A toasted, loaded bun stacked with ham, turkey, and roast beef (which I hear is made in-house), all topped with roast beef gravy, American, Swiss, and provolone cheeses, lettuce, mustard, and your choice of regular or jalapeño mayonnaise, of course we had the Jalapeño Mayo. The first bite reminded me of a warm French dip, but that impression quickly gave way to layers of different meat flavors, rounded out by the subtle heat of the jalapeño mayo. It practically melted in my mouth. Honestly, I wanted to finish the whole thing, but I didn't want to need to be rolled out of the building, so I boxed up the second half and enjoyed it again for dinner. Great food, great service, and now I understand what all the buzz was about.

The menus are on the table but you really don't need a menu here since there are only a few items. Everyone comes here for po-boys obviously and they have a few to choose from. The top 2 choices are the most common, the special and the surf and turf. To me, what makes a good po-boy, is the bread....like many other sandwiches. If you have great bread, you're usually making a good sandwich. I tried the small special, while the rest of the table tried either the special or surf and turf. They don't have a formal kids menu, but they just have either PB&J or grilled cheese. We tried the grilled cheese. My fav ended up being the surf and turf due to it being cleaner to eat and more variety of taste and texture between the bread. I liked the special, but I forgot to ask the server to remove the American cheese, so it made it taste funny and would have been better without it.
