Stopped in on a whim on a Thursday evening after being at Kutis nearby. Not very busy. Service was top notch and I honestly felt bad I stopped in for a more casual dinner than they are known for. The house salad with Mayfair dressing was delicious and really hit the spot! Really enjoyed the crab cakes, Louisiana Shrimp and big round toasted ravioli's. Will be back for a special occasion and order a steak because darn did they look good. And the potatoes!

The water is a little too wet. Everything about this place is great. Luke makes one of the best Bloody Marys in Saint Louis. Sam's is a true old time steakhouse. Great prime rib. Baked potatoes as big as your head. Great atmosphere. Live music in the bar. If you've never been, add to your to do list.

Wow this place was gorgeous walking into for the holidays! Christmas lights was a vibe! Came here with family for my bfs bday. We all got French style prime ribs and surf n turf. I personally like the cowboy ribeye more. Everything is big portions so worth the price. We got reservations so came in right when they opened Saturday at 5 but by 7 place was packed.

Great bar at Sam's. Nice Bourbon selection.

Old school Steakhouse with an excellent staff both in the dining room and at the bar. Started at the bar for some nice cocktails, wanted a Calumet Bourbon, but ended up drinking something else. Moved to the dining room and we had the Prime Rib and a Fillet. Both done to perfection, both served with the paper wrapped Baked Potato. The bread and salad were both good, not great. A great experience for the old-time supper club feeling. I would feel great bring my kids or my grandparents here for any special occasion. We were walk-ins on a Tuesday night, and had no trouble getting a table, but when we left - every table was full. 2 people with drinks $140.

Baked potato steak and mac & cheese

The food was really good. Service was good. The steak was well cooked. The potato was absolutely amazing. I suggest getting a baked potato. The mac & cheese was all right. The place was very romantic. It did feel very old timey. We had a reservation so we were seated immediately. It was pretty busy.

We had a lovely dinner at Sam's. All of the food was great and it had great service. It's a nicer restaurant with someone playing piano. For two people to have a 6 ounce fillet each, upgraded sides, salad, bread, an appetizer and a bottle of wine, it was about $200 total. So pricey, but nothing outrageous and probably less than some other steakhouses. Everything was great, but probably my favorite thing was the crabcake appetizer. And the warm bread that they brought to the table was amazing! Probably some of my favorite free bread I've ever had.

First time coming here to celebrate our Anniversary!!! At first we thought we were underdressed and needed fancy clothes but all was good!!! lol We were quickly seated to a table and the entire wait staff were very attentive. Your water glass will never be half full. The Moscato and Tito's and soda were good. Started off with the Smoked Porkbelly Deviled Eggs. They were yummy. Who knew drizzling maple syrup on them would elevate the taste. I could have used more PorkBelly!! The Ribeye was amazing!!! And the Grantwood Filet with Bernaise and Lobster was good, but lacked seasonings. The Salads (Wedge and House) were good. We were treated to a complimentary Piece of Flourless Chocolate cake to celebrate!!! The cake was good but Rich!!!!

What a festive atmosphere! Sam's is decked out at Christmas time with very tasteful decor. So many white lights set a beautiful backdrop for dinner. We made reservations, walked right in and were seated. The service was excellent throughout the whole meal. Our drinks were never more than half empty. We started with the appetizer sampler. The toasted ravioli were large, circular and very flavorful. Shrimp Louisiana was lovely but could have used a bit more flavor. The crab cake stole the show with a delightful sauce. For dinner we had the salmon - perfectly cooked with a lovely sauce. And the porterhouse. My dining partner ordered it medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. Dinners are served with a mixed greens salad (the Mayfair dressing is great) and a baked potato. The potato was served piping hot and had a great texture and flavor. Overall dining at Sam's was a wonderful experience.

Our food was fine. Not worth the $200+ we spent. I got the lobster and my husband got a steak. Reservations were at 6:30 and we didn't leave until after 9:00. And it was not due to us hanging out and drinking. It was because it would be 40 minutes before our server, Arthur W, came back to check on us. My husband waited with an empty wine glass for 37 minutes. Not an exaggeration. Plenty of tables around us came after in us and left before us. I will say, the young man plying the piano was very impressive and talented.

We were there for a large birthday party. Truly fine dining. The service was excellent, as was the food. Darker ambiance, but with tiny lights everywhere making it somewhat magical. Combined with the piano player, it was a unique experience. The portions are huge, so be prepared to take a "doggy bag" home. Everyone at the table said their entree was 'the best". The maitre d came around multiple times to make sure everyone at the table were happy with everything.

Sam's is an all around great place for food, service and ambiance! As you enter, staff are friendly and welcoming. You can walk in or make reservations. I recommend making reservations as it gets pretty crowded. I have walked in and eaten in the bar area which is my preference. Every time I have been here the food has been cooked to perfection! Sam's also has wide range of cocktails, beer and wine. I have been impressed with their wine list that pair well with their delicious steaks! The bartenders are knowledgeable and can recommend cocktails, wine and beer if you aren't sure or want to try something new. Sam's is the perfect place for a traditional steak and potatoes meal!

What time is happy hour? It's not on the website but people talk about it. I never knew it existed?

Best time to come?

Any special brunches that they offer... mother's Day, Easter, etc. I think the best time on weekends is to schedule early right after they open. They have live music later on Friday nights as well.

Since I shared that I was not currently drinking alcohol, he made a few mocktail recommendations and I loved how he was able to "sell" them to me. I went with a class G&T mocktail and my friend went with a mezcal drink based on his recommendations. We also ordered 2 of the apps to just have at the table while we chatted. The mocktail I had really did hit the spot and my friend really enjoyed her cocktail as well. The hummus we ordered witht he veggies was so good and we also had a potato app that was truly such a unique flavor with creme fraiche and walnuts. Honestly, it was so good I want to go back and order it again! I really enjoyed this HH and know that I need to visit again for the actual dinner menu one day.

The restaurant felt very upscale - service was extremely attentive and fantastic. My personal favorite was the crab cake - I've never gotten so much crab meat in one before and the sauce was incredible! Caesar salad was good too. The steak to fry ratio on the steak frites was a bit off (steak was fairly small) but I appreciated that they don't skimp on sides at all! The French dip was the most meat I've ever had in one. Sadly, we were not able to save room for dessert, but I cannot wait to go back! Worth every penny, absolutely.

It was already getting late so we were worried we wouldn't find one in time, when this spot popped up! Their Happy Hour goes until 6:30!! I was a little nervous for parking in this area, but it's far enough down that we had no issues. We walked in and luckily, two people were packing up at the bar, so we snagged their spots. Happy Hour is limited to the bar area only. I have no idea why I haven't heard more about this spot, and I'm honestly surprised it's not hyped up more! They use a lot of local, fresh vendors for their ingredients, and the spot is very clean and welcoming. The bartender was great all night, he gave top notch service. The food menu looks phenomenal, and they have have a lot of great options on the Happy Hour menu itself. I just got a couple glasses of house wine for a great price and my husband got a couple beers, which even the NICE ones were only $5. Their cocktails looked bomb too, we'll have to come back and try some. The beef tacos had REALLY great flavor, the fries were ginormous, crispy and cooked to perfection, and even the whipped feta was tasty. The bread they served it with was bomb. Such a cool spot, great prices, and super high quality. We will definitely be back.

Our server was Tera, she had our large group plus other tables, so she was doing her best to coordinate. We shared menu's, they had regular menus and special menus for Valentines Day. Tara was great with keeping track of the couples when ordering. I ordered the Butcher Board as an appetizer to share with others. Everyone really enjoyed it, especially the toasted bread. The salami, sausage and Braunschweiger. There was a buffalo chicken terrine that was different but good. Grain mustard aioli and house made pickles rounded out the board. I also ordered a cherry margarita as my first of two drinks. The second one was a Hugo Spritz. Both were ok, not great. I ordered the Tenderloin from the Valentine menu. It came with fingerling potatoes and green beans with a sauce. It was delicious! The beef so tender and flavorful. The meal was superb. To go packaging was great and came in a brown bag with handles that makes it easy to carry. We had a great time, great food and service.

When we were debating which cuts to order, she delivered a detailed explanation of each one, and even brought a platter of them out for us to see. Definitely an upscale place, so budget for that. Here's what we got: Roasted Bone marrow: 8/10 - came with quite a few bones, and the marrow was rich and buttery. It truly was a melt in your mouth experience, and with the addition of the arugula and red onions on the side, it was lovely. Brussels sprouts: 9/10 - these had such a lovely flavor to them and the honey Dijon sauce was delicious. We prefer Brussels a little more charred but otherwise these were a hit. Garlic mashed potatoes with Boursin: 100/10 - SO good. Best mashed potatoes we've ever had. You HAVE to add the cheese, it's so worth it. They're ridiculously creamy, flavorful, and overall, just tasty. Broccolini: 7.5/10 - this was average. We wanted them charred a bit more and also more red pepper flakes. It mostly just tased like lemon, but it wasn't bad. Australian Wagyu filet: 8.5/10 - A cheaper version of Japanese Wagyu, this cut is super tender and delicious. But don't expect it to melt in your mouth like the Japanese ones. Snowbeef Wagyu 4oz: 10/10 - The beef just melted in my mouth. The marbling on this cut is exquisite and it is SO rich. You honestly don't need more than 3-4oz if you're getting sides. It's that rich. Overall, we definitely recommend this place. The mashed potatoes especially were enough to make us want to come back.

Down Home Shrimp $26 - 3 large pieces of shrimp on top of mouth watering mash potato like sauce that you want to lick clean. You can add on additional shrimp. Single Cut Prime Rib 16oz $66 - It was cooked perfectly medium rare and very tender. I didn't love that it sat in a pool of au jus, but was delicious. Brussels sprouts $15 - Large portion, more than plenty for 4 people. It was tender and very saucy. Garlic Mashed potatoes $16 - Semi-lumpy mashed potato with bits of skin. I was hoping it might be served with gravy similar to the shrimp sauce, but there was no companion. Cheesecake with blueberry sauce $16 - Large piece of cheesecake, very rich and smooth. They also gave us a list of their favorite menu items. That was the sign that it was time for us to go! We were lucky and found a great parking spot. It was a nice night and a lot of people were in the area. We were greeted warmly by a few people at the hostess stand. Our table was almost ready - literally maybe a two minute wait - and then we were seated. It's not a huge space, but they make the most of it. The place was full! Our server was Josh and he was great! There were a number of people that came to our table throughout our two hours there. Drink delivery, food delivery, Amanda (one of our very favorite servers we met at another restaurant), water pourer, table cleaner, etc - lots of staff taking care of everyone. We dropped utensils a few times and someone on staff was there replacing it before we even picked it up off the floor. We're not THAT clumsy - the tables for two aren't large and it was easy to hit a utensil unknowingly! It's a little loud in there due to the size of the space and the number of people they can seat. It wasn't annoyingly loud, but louder than some places. We ordered our cocktails and then started trying to decide what to order. Josh went over the menu with us, told us about some of the items in more detail, and told us about the specials. He was super knowledgeable about the entire menu. He also had a fun personality. Focaccia and olive oil were brought to our table. It was literally the only thing I didn't like there. I love focaccia, but it was served almost cold. I prefer it warm. And this wasn't room temp - it was very cool. We started with Prosciutto di Parma. Because peaches are in season, it came with fresh sliced peaches and it was delicious! Without the peaches, I think the prosciutto would have been too salty for me, but I'm salt sensitive. I had the Roman Gnocco and it was very good! I brought half of it home. My husband got the Sweet Corn Ravioli. It was a special and it was delicious. It was the perfect summer entree! We had an ice cream sandwich for dessert and wow! It's absolutely not like one you've had before. I was already full, but I made some room! In addition to the food and cocktails being so good, the staff were fabulous! They didn't miss a trick. Someone always noticed everything! And the food they took from me to box up was kept somewhere else until we were ready to go. It was brought with the bill. It was labeled with our table number and what the contents were. Was it a big deal? No. Was it very thoughtful? Yes. We didn't have a box sitting there while we enjoyed dessert and finished our cocktails. My only regret is that we had not been there before. The food and service are both top notch. We will most definitely be back!

We started with the Korean fried cauliflower and it was honestly some of the best I've ever had. The batter was light, fluffy, and crispy, and the gochujang sauce with the mayo was sweet and sticky in the best way. Since it's a butchery, we had to try the steaks. I ordered the 4oz filet Oscar style. The meat was tender and very well seasoned, the crab was fresh, and the homemade hollandaise really pulled it all together. My husband had the ribeye. It was a flavorful cut, a little fatty (as ribeye tends to be), but exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The steaks come with a twice-baked potato and vegetable (or you can swap for different vegetables). The potato was flavorful but fairly dense. We also did the bread service - it was good, but felt a bit pricey for the portion. We ended with the flourless chocolate torte, which was very rich and the perfect way to finish the meal - especially on Valentine's Day. Overall, the food was good and the menu is solid. The quality was there, but the portions, bread service and sides didn't fully meet expectations. That said, it was still a lovely experience and a great date-night spot.
