We celebrated my father-in-law's 70th birthday at Sam's this past weekend and it was truly a night to remember! When booking, we were told we'd have a private room, which was honestly the reason we chose Sam's. When we arrived, there was a miscommunication about the reservation, but the staff stepped up immediately and still made a private space work for us. That kind of flexibility and willingness to make things right really set the tone for the whole evening. The food was all incredible. The extra large shrimp and caprese salad were standout starters, our steaks were juicy and full of flavor, and those baked potatoes were absolutely massive. We were not prepared! Everything came out exactly as ordered and tasted amazing. A huge shoutout to the wait staff who took care of us all night. What a festive atmosphere! Sam's is decked out at Christmas time with very tasteful decor. So many white lights set a beautiful backdrop for dinner. We made reservations, walked right in and were seated. The service was excellent throughout the whole meal. Our drinks were never more than half empty. We started with the appetizer sampler. The toasted ravioli were large, circular and very flavorful. Shrimp Louisiana was lovely but could have used a bit more flavor. The crab cake stole the show with a delightful sauce. For dinner we had the salmon - perfectly cooked with a lovely sauce. And the porterhouse. My dining partner ordered it medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. Dinners are served with a mixed greens salad (the Mayfair dressing is great) and a baked potato. The potato was served piping hot and had a great texture and flavor. Stopped in on a whim on a Thursday evening after being at Kutis nearby. Not very busy. Service was top notch and I honestly felt bad I stopped in for a more casual dinner than they are known for. Old school Steakhouse with an excellent staff both in the dining room and at the bar. Started at the bar for some nice cocktails, wanted a Calumet Bourbon, but ended up drinking something else. Moved to the dining room and we had the Prime Rib and a Fillet. Both done to perfection, both served with the paper wrapped Baked Potato. The bread and salad were both good, not great. We had a lovely dinner at Sam's. All of the food was great and it had great service. It's a nicer restaurant with someone playing piano. For two people to have a 6 ounce fillet each, upgraded sides, salad, bread, an appetizer and a bottle of wine, it was about $200 total. So pricey, but nothing outrageous and probably less than some other steakhouses. Everything was great, but probably my favorite thing was the crabcake appetizer. At first we thought we were underdressed and needed fancy clothes but all was good!!! lol We were quickly seated to a table and the entire wait staff were very attentive. Our food was fine. Not worth the $200+ we spent. I got the lobster and my husband got a steak. Reservations were at 6:30 and we didn't leave until after 9:00. And it was not due to us hanging out and drinking. It was because it would be 40 minutes before our server, Arthur W, came back to check on us. The cuts of meat, a 24oz porterhouse and a 16oz bone in ribeye were tough, cut to thin and slathered in a what tasted like store bought demiglaze from TGI Fridays. If you going to advertise being a 5 star steakhouse ,teach your chefs how to properly prepare a proper piece of meat. I absolutely loath big chain steakhouses but the food here wasn't even comparable to Outback! I suggest the owner call Gordon Ramsey from Kitchen Nightmares and learn how to prepare a proper steak! read more

We were there for a large birthday party. Truly fine dining. The service was excellent, as was the food. Darker ambiance, but with tiny lights everywhere making it somewhat magical. Sadly I guess I'll never get to try their food. We came in hungry on a rainy Thursday evening. We planned to post up at the bar and have dinner. When we walked in the hostess was kind, and we mentioned we wanted to sit at the bar. She pointed us in the right direction and that's when it took a turn. Once seated, the older gentleman bartender asked if we wanted drinks. We requested menus and drink menus. Boyfriend has a serious gluten allergy. We asked the bartender about whether a few appetizers were gluten free. He said they should be. We requested he ask to be sure, which he did. When he came back, I asked if there was someone in the kitchen that could mark the menu for items safe from gluten boyfriend could eat. He said, and I quote, "We don't do that here." Needless to say we left. How can we order without proper knowledge of what's in the food? It's a restaurant. They should be able to tell me what's safe for gluten free diners to have. I recommend making reservations as it gets pretty crowded. I have walked in and eaten in the bar area which is my preference. Every time I have been here the food has been cooked to perfection! Sam's also has wide range of cocktails, beer and wine. I have been impressed with their wine list that pair well with their delicious steaks! The bartenders are knowledgeable and can recommend cocktails, wine and beer if you aren't sure or want to try something new. Attended a post holiday party for work on Friday January 2nd from 12 to 5pm. Open bar and for dinner choice of salmon, filet mignon, or ribeye with salad and large baked potato loaded or however you wanted it. 2nd time the company has had it there and both times excellent. Servers and bartenders were very efficient and polite. I hope they made a lot of money cause I and several of my coworkers were giving out twenties. The restaurant is always over decorated for Christmas but that seems to be a draw for returning customers. I have been there on other occasions and have thoroughly enjoyed every detail. read more

Well It was my Wedding Anniversary special dinner and my understanding wife let me take a few pix for this review. We thoroughly enjoyed this evening it was a night of great steak ,sides and complementary anniversary dessert. My wife had the 6oz. ribeye and I had the peppercorn steak medallions . We both had a baked potato with basic toppings butter and sour cream with chives. To compliment the food we had the house Chardonnay and Cabernet . The service was fantastic, Mitchell, our server was helpful in deciding what item had garlic in it. As you know garlic is a no-no for my wife. Our special dinner was cooked as desired very tender and steak flavorful. No overbearing flavors, just steak flavor. The baked potato was very large and soft , smooth and delicious. As a nice touch Sam's offered us a chocolate tort that was awesome tasting and very rich and and heavy on the chocolate. We enjoyed the night. We had a quiet romantic room almost to ourselves. The atmosphere is quiet, dark and if I would say a step back in time with background music with the "rat pack" in mind. I enjoyed my first experience at Sam's Steakhouse. It was a journey, but it was worth the drive. We celebrated a friend's birthday and Scorpio season to the fullest. I had the lobster bisque to start, but felt a little misled by the menu and was expecting larger-sized lobster pieces on top of the bisque. We also had the crabcakes that tasted a bit undercooked. However, my friends loved the pork belly deviled eggs! My filet mignon was butterflied and tasted lovely, and the garlic mashed potatoes were whipped perfectly, thick, and DELICIOUS. My wedge salad was great and everyone enjoyed their steaks. The brandy peppercorn sauce was also very good. Great atmosphere in this place! It's been in St. Louis since 1992. The wait was a little bit (they were dealing with a newly paved parking lot in 98 degree heat- they still gave excellent communication!), but it was well worth it. I had great service. The food was hot and fresh and I was impressed by how quickly they got it to me. I had the prime rib with Sam's signature sauce and a side of mushrooms. It was A+. Cooked and seared to perfection. This old school steakhouse that seems like it's been here forever (and I do not mean that negatively) was on the "bucket list" of a friend so we double dated it here. My steak was perfectly cooked (rare) and very tasty, it came with a baked potato (of course) that I upscaled it to "loaded" but I'm not sure I needed to. The side salad is quite large for a side salad and it was also very good. The only negative was my dinner co-pilot was primed for prime rib and of course, they were sold out, so keep that in mind if you dine on the post 7pm side of the night. To start, service was slow when we didn't order cocktails. The noise from so many people talking gave more of a Texas Roadhouse feel instead of a white table cloth setting. When our meals came, the steaks, fish, and baked potatoes were luke warm at best. The potatoes wouldn't melt the butter. My strip steak had at least 6 bites that could not be chewed. THE dinning experience in STL !!! Nice quiet atmosphere with a little piano music so you can have a polite, private conversation without needing to yell over a cloud of background noise. Pleasant staff sharply attired, old school professional. AND obviously the food - crab cakes that are more crab than filler, toasted ravioli that have more filling than shell - steaks with a beautiful marinated that enhances the steak and brings out the natural flavor - served with a large baked potato wrapped in brown paper the way a great steakhouse should. There were plenty of side dishes and add ons to compliment your main dish if you choose. Dessert I can only say looked fantastic because we were all too full to even attempt splitting the wonderful look chocolate torte. I would tell you to book in advance. The charming owner told us they limit seating to make certain not to overwhelm the staff. Don't get me wrong, they tasted good and they were large shrimp but for the price, I just didn't think it was worth it. For my meal, I got the peppercorn medallion and was happy with my choice! The meat was cooked well and I liked the sauce. I'm a big mashed potato fan and they were fine, nothing to write home about. The caesar salad was very good! The perfect proportion of lettuce to dressing to cheese ratio. The rest of my party got a variety of things- the New York strip with an added lobster tail, the grantwood filet, and the prime rib. We went there for our anniversary. And the service was good and the food was very good but we were placed at a table by the door so we had a cold breeze. I guess since we were only two people. And the only thing we thought was really poor is our server asks if we wanted a complementary dessert since it was our anniversary. We accepted the chocolate brownie cake but our surprise they charged us for the dessert and we wouldn't have ordered this dessert!! It wasn't complementary!!
