My husband surprised me with a trip to the Tenderloin Room for one of our Friday night dinners and it was a delight. He doesn't like steak so I know the trip was solely for my benefit. First of all, the place is classy that I was too embarrassed to take photos and will have to rely on words alone to describe my dining experience. We had a 6pm reservation and we were seated promptly at a corner table. The place has a romantic vibe and the noise level was low. Perfect for when you want to dine in peace. Our waitee came over shortly to take our drink orders. They gave us 2 different menu versions as mine didn't have the prices but his did. I had a glass of cabernet and my husband had a nice cocktail to start. We shared the crab cake (pan seared, with citrus salad, lemon remulade and pickeld red onions. My husband also got the French onion soup because he likes French onion soup and he said it was great. The crab cakes were delicious and flavorful. I enjoyed every bite! I had the ribeye prepared medium rare and my husband had the salmon. We also ordered the brussel sprouts and creamed spinach sides to share which were all lovely and well seasoned. My steak was prepared the way I asked for it to be and our dinner proceeded smoothly. Our waiter came and checked on us regularly to make sure we were well tended to and got us another round of drinks. I was unfortunately too full for dessert which is unusual as I always try to have dessert on Friday nights. However, getting full on a fantastic meal was not something I regretted. And I had leftovers for the weekend as well! I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Tenderloin Room except that I cannot wait to return and have more of their delicious steak! read more

First time eating here was last Saturday night with my SO. Brian was our server and he gave us impeccable service. All other staff we interacted with were also friendly and attentive. SO is gluten free. Brian was careful to check the ingredients on anything we were curious about. We shared the crab and artichoke dip, whipped feta app, little gem salad, salmon, and tenderloin with green beans and mashed potatoes. SO I had vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup for dessert. Step inside, and bam -- those stained glass windows in the bar area? Gorgeous. Like, "Am I supposed to be sipping a cocktail or quietly admiring art?" levels of stunning. We kicked things off with the crab dip because, obviously. It was creamy & dreamy, and the kind of starter that makes you realize you're in for a night of gluttony. Then came the surf and turf, my personal teamwork challenge since I'm not about that flesh life. My friend took on the steak like a champ, and I handled the seafood side of things. Sharing is caring, right? We added fingerlings to round it out, and oh, let me tell you, those potatoes were crispy little golden nuggets of perfection. And the bread and butter? TO. DIE. FOR. This was my second visit to the Tenderloin Room and it was disappointing at best. While their remodel from several years ago is well done, it was the only improvement since my last visit. We had reservations for 8 for a special occasion dinner. Our server was friendly, but mentioned he was hosting and serving which was apparent as the evening went on. The serving of the food and drinks was chaotic. We still had the bulky menus on the table as we were trying to enjoy appetizers. As our food came out there were still empty soup bowls and appetizer plates that weren't removed. Water glasses were left unfilled and the food was less than lukewarm and underwhelming when delivered. My in laws decided to get the dessert that was offered for their anniversary. My father-in-law misunderstood that 1 would be free (which wasn't a problem), but a key lime parfait was delivered instead of a hot fudge sundae. Because there were large gaps between check ins from our server, he ate it without complaint. I've always felt the Tenderloin Room was an iconic St. Louis staple, but now I wouldn't recommend it to others after this experience. One of the best steaks I've ever had - this is now on the top of my list for steakhouses in St. Louis! Tried: crab cakes, mocktail, and NY Strip Loved: all the flavor. The butter with the bread was fantastic, the crab cakes had an amazing sauce top off the flavor, and the steak with the butter was perfectly grilled with some char and amazing flavor with or without their amazing steak sauce. My boyfriend surprised me with a night in at the Chase Park Plaza and a dinner at the Tenderloin Room for my birthday and this was truly phenomenal! Since it's included in the hotel, we didn't have to go out in the cold and rain which was so nice. But we could still dress up and feel like we were on an adventure with a true steakhouse at our fingertips. I enjoyed the New York Strip and he had the Filet Mignon. Both were tender and delicious! I made the reservation to eat at the bar. But when we arrived, my wife noticed the terrific ambiance and asked if we could get a table instead. The hostess obliged, but sadly, she sat us in the very worst table in the restaurant... in an isolated alcove that faces the kitchen... with bench seats. I had tried this place a few months ago but came back to celebrate a birthday. This place did not disappoint a 2nd time around either. We ordered the Ribeye and the Salmon. Both dishes were charred to perfection. The salmon had a perfectly charred skin and came with mashed potatoes and broccolini. For the sides, we ordered the creamed spinach and mushrooms. The sides were delicious too! They have an excellent cocktail list and an expansive wine list to choose from. They have a special smoked old fashioned which comes to the table encased in smoke. Their bread rolls are glorious as well! Highly recommend it. For dessert we had a chocolate ganache cake with blackberry ice cream. Our server was very polite and accommodative. I am in disbelief and so sad by my experience this evening. I come here quite often. I stay at this hotel quite often everything about this hotel is beautiful. It is one of my most favorite places to stay. I loved everything about it and I only eat at the tenderloin room. I'm used to find dining. I'd look forward to my visit here for a week and knew exactly what I was going to order the cowboy ribeye, the salted baked potato of the mushrooms and a glass of wine or chill when approached the bar. There was a girl eating her salad with her phone on full video and full volume, so I made sure to sit as far away as possible. There were two other people in the bar, so a total of four of us, the bartender never took my order. I continue to look at the girl and look at the bartender, thinking quietly to myself. This cannot be happening in a fine dining establishment. This is a steakhouse not Hooters or Chick-fil-A. Is that quietly for 10 minutes listening to this woman speaking to whomever on full volume. I got up and quietly removed myself. I asked for the manager and I asked him to step outside with me. I told him of my experience in his response was "oh I just asked her to turn it down." I was filled with dismay. He asked her to turn it down???????????? First of all the bartender should've nipped it in the bud and asked her to turn it off. Secondly, since the bartender did not, the manager should've insisted that she turned it off. This is a fine dining establishment. This is ruined my experience of this restaurant and this hotel as a whole. I hope it was worth the $14 they made off this girl versus the $180 I was about to spend on my ribeye, baked potato, mushrooms, French onion soup and two glasses of wine I get that low end is the culture Dijour that we are in, but I do not expect it in a fine dining establishment. It is extremely inappropriate and the staff should have handled it. Therefore, this evening, I will not be having dinner because of this experience and I will make sure to tell everyone I meet. What an amazing hidden little gem! This place was phenomenal. The layout was so spectacular and the seating was so clean. The dark wood inside is so pretty. I went into a food coma just after the bread with honey butter. I loved everything that I had tried. I couldn't eat everything and was so full after apps but it made a great lunch for the day after. The service was the best and our server was so fun. He made our experience even better. I highly highly highly recommend the Tenderloin house and I will most definitely be back soon! "You can never go home again" My husband and I dined at the Tenderloin Room last night and it was extremely underwhelming. We were married at the Starlight Roof of the Chase Park Plaza 43 years ago and decided to relive some memories. What a mistake! They claim to provide diners with a memorable evening, and it was... But not a good one. We went with friends who were also celebrating their anniversary on the same night. There were six of us. Our server looked very polished, but when it came to being attentive it was a very sloppy evening. She didn't bring around the chilled appetizer cart, so we asked about it and she then begrudgingly brought it by our table. After we had ordered salads, we asked if there were any specials for the evening. She then told us there was a Burrata appetizer special that she never would have told us about if we hadn't we asked. The steaks were fine, but very ordinary. The pistachio sauce that came with my scallops was cold. The sides that we had ordered were not served until after we waited so long we had to ask about those, also. My favorite, creamed spinach is no longer on the menu. When making the reservation we were asked if we were celebrating an occasion. Dessert for our anniversary was not even offered. Although the conversation and the company was delightful, we will not be returning to this restaurant. read more

I came a little early before our dinner reservations to enjoy the bar and have a nice cocktail. The bartender was absolutely delightful (I wish I remembered her name!) and helped me choose the perfect control to start off the night. My friends had arrived and we were quickly seated. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant was top notch! Our waiter told us they redecorated during COVID hoping to bring in new guests and not just guests of the hotel. Our server was hilarious and knew the menu like the back of his hand. We ordered the smoked salmon and seafood dip to start and they flavors were unmatched. I ordered the house filet and Brussels sprouts to share and my girlfriends ordered the Salmon, Scallops and prosciutto as their meals. The table was silent for a few minutes which is rare for our group because we were all enjoying our meals so much. The waiter recommended the sundae and we weren't too sure about it until we had our first bite. WOW! Homemade ice cream with some rush flavor beyond what we were expecting. Some coworkers and I attended the tenderloin room to celebrate one of our managers being in town. Overall, the food was good, but for the price, I feel as though it should have been great. It wasn't bad, just nothing special that I haven't had before. The Pepperloin a La Tenderloin was a beautiful cut of meat, but I didn't feel like it had as much flavor as described. The mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and Brussel sprouts were my sides and they were really good and flavorful- but I'm not going to the tenderloin room for the sides if that makes sense. The meal was ok and so was the service. They don't handle food allergies very well. I started with the Senate Bean Soup and it was quite tasty. I ordered the 10oz fillet and I added the Bleu Cheese Crust enhancement and I asked for it to be cooked medium rare. The bleu cheese crust was far from a crust but a melting of bleu cheese on the fillet. My fillet was cooked medium on one half and medium well on the other. Too much grilling reduced the juiciness of the meat. My side dish was the twice baked garlic mash potatoes. The garlic mash potatoes were very rich. They added a lot of sour cream which I wasn't expecting. Overall the meal and service left a lot to be desired. Impromptu dinner for my 50th birthday tonight. I had not been here since they reopened. I used to visit frequently with my father years ago. Loved the gray velvet booths that spanned the length of both walls, with large round private booths in the two corners flanking the huge fireplace. Very comfortable atmosphere. We ordered the green pea horseradish hummus, the 24oz porterhouse, and the twice-baked mashed potatoes to share. Everything was delicious. I loved their "house steak sauce" which must have been au Poivre. It was so delicious, I did not touch the Béarnaise sauce I had ordered. I was wished happy birthday multiple times and gifted my choice of desserts. Ryan did an excellent job serving us. He knew the menu well and offered suggestions we really enjoyed. I really enjoyed the music and ambience. Very nice! Our waitress was professional and helpful. However, my 52 dollar scallop dish did not come with a creamy herb sauce or the chimichurri sauce the waitress indicated. I was confused regarding the sauce but both sounded great. The dish was sautéed scallops in oil or butter on top of a couple of fingerling potatoes. There was no detectable herbs or sauces to make the dish special or make it stand out and they were overcooked. Too pricy for an average no effort dish. The appetizer sides we ordered were ok too. They come out with a cart with cold shrimp on it, smoked salmon and some sort of seafood salad. It's not a particularly attractive presentation. We tried the highly touted smoked salmon and it was good but not great. The food was disappointing at the price point and we much preferred eating at The Preston. Much better food and value. We had a lovely time at the Tenderloin Room last night. The ambiance is dark and intimate, different areas that allow for a sit down dinner or there's space at the bar. I started off with the Smoked Old Fashioned which came in a lovely Booker's box. It was presented beautifully and tasted amazing...super smoky,warm and so comforting on a cold January night! We had the Crab cakes, beef carpaccio and shrimp cocktail for starters. The beef carpaccio I think was a little overpowered by the mustard seeds, still delicious, but I would've liked more flavor. The shrimp cocktail was fantastic!! The presentation I'll say was just a little awkward in my opinion because it was difficult to dip the shrimp in the cocktail sauce on the plate. My filet was so incredibly tender and delicious. I ordered the horseradish sauce and it was a lovely compliment to my steak and my garlic mashed potatoes. I highly recommend asking for the Espresso Martini before ordering your dessert so they can prepare the espresso ahead of time! We tried all three desserts for the table and I did like the carrot cake the most. I will say I think the desserts looked and tasted like they were pre-made which was a little disappointing especially for the price point you pay here. The desserts are delicious, just disappointing they don't maybe collaborate with a local bakery at least to add more value and a homemade feel to their dessert options. Our wait staff was so incredibly nice and accommodating. They were very attentive and helpful at any point in time and never left us needing anything. Beau was a fantastic waiter!! Had a work related dinner there on a Sunday evening. Not super busy, but not empty either. First time I had been there. Cool old school steakhouse vibe; yet also had a contemporary feel as well. Food was outstanding and service was equally great. Had shrimp cocktail, tenderloin bits wrapped in bacon, and the Ribeye (rare). Hard sear on outside and perfectly rare inside. After we ordered he oddly left the book size menus on the table even after bringing the drinks and appetizers? We had to flag him down to take them so we had room on table for entrées. I ordered the ribeye and had it rare plus which was a mistake on my part because the steak was not hot when I started eating it. It was not really seasoned well like it would be at Ruth's Chris or Morton's. Overall for an average price of 70 bucks for a steak I expected a better steak and most annoying was the table was not stable. So cutting the steak would make the table move every time shaking the drinks. The steaks came with whipped butter on top which should have melted on the steak!
