Sam did a tree removal for me and it was great. I then had him trim a large Chinese Elm and it was a really bad job. I had another tree company come and paid them to trim it properly. When I spoke with Sam about it he cursed me out. I took him to court and he lied about everything that day, claiming he was there to guide his crew, and even the trim job which I had pictures showing what he did wrong. He did a cheap and easy lions tailing trim rather than what I asked him to do and what the tree needed. When I left court I asked him why he lied and his response is not repeatable. I would stay away from him for any tree trimming. I believe in supporting small businesses but not this one. read more

Over the past year, a series of unfortunate events prompted me to store a large amount of trash and old belongings in my backyard temporarily. I had planned on removing it all last summer, but I didn't finish before the rainy season. After a few storms had come through, the wind and rain spewed old belongings and garbage throughout the yard. On top of having trash all over my backyard, I had vines and weeds everywhere. The vines were growing so aggressively, they buried an 8ft ladder, hid my circuit breaker, and began invading my house. I also had a couple of trees which had died, one of which had fallen over. The dead tree and vines formed a wall which prevented anybody from entering my side yard (see photo link below) I found another company on Yelp and described what I needed. But they said they could not address the breadth of my yard's issues. They recommended Sam's Tree Service. Sam came out August 1st and gave me an estimate. The price was definitely reasonable given the scope of the work. I agreed to the estimate, so he and his crew began the job at 9am on August 2nd. They ripped out weeds, vines, dead trees, and trash. I got home after work on Aug 2nd and barely recognized my yard. Sam and crew came back on Friday, Aug 3rd and finished up. The metamorphosis was awesome. Sam and his team were fast and thorough. This guy was recommended to me by I'm guessing a buddy of his who works in the same industry. I'd originally requested service from the other company but was told they are out of my driving range. When Sam first returned my call, the caller ID said the name of a woman (his mother, maybe??) He did not say the name of his company, and I had to ask him for it. I explained the job I wanted done, and he asked me for a photo in order to give me a quote. That made me suspicious at first, and I asked if he didn't want to come take a look at the length of my fence to see for himself the extent of the area that needed vine and foliage removal. He said, ok pick a day and time. I was surprised he appeared to have a wide open schedule. Another a bad sign. I texted him my address as he'd requested, confirming the day and time we'd agreed on over the phone. No response. Two days later, I texted back and asked if we were confirmed for the next day. He said yes. Sure enough, the next day, he was a no-show. 10 minutes went by. 15 minutes, 20 minutes. 25 minutes. I was going to call it a wash and let it go, but I decided to call him. He said, "Oh, the traffic ... I'm here close by ... I should be there in a few minutes..." I told him I'd been waiting for him and would have appreciated a phone call to let me know he'd be arriving late. Ultimately, he came, and Sam seems to be a nice guy. The quote he gave me seemed fair. Therefore, I'm not rating his business with only 1 star. I don't think I'll be using his services, however. read more

Summary first: Sam and his crew were pleasant, quick and efficient. I got value for my money. Details: I needed an arbor cleared of twenty years of jasmine vines that had gotten to looking poorly. Sam dropped by on a Saturday and quoted me an amount that was very reasonable. We scheduled for Friday afternoon and he said he'd have a team of three. Since my yard has no gate access I got permission from the apartment complex for Sam to park on their side next to the fence. His crew worked over the fence. This was great as no debris was hauled through my condo (and no bugs dropped off to stay with me). His crew worked quickly and efficiently. They were done one to two hours before I expected. They did an excellent job cleaning up the little bits of debris from my planters, deck and lawn. Also they helped me reconnect some drip lines that got disconnected during the work. read more

I had the unfortunate situation of having to cut down a fully grown monkey pine which the HOA planted in my front yard back in the 70's. For some reason this is my tree and they needed it cut down as the branches and roots were causing problems. After weeks of fighting I gave in and started callng around. Strong wind from a recent storm pushed the large catus tree next to my house over and onto a section of our fence. The catus tree stood over 20 feet tall and probably 8 to 10 feet wide so you can imagine the damage the tree did to the fence. Sam's team was able to come by the house on short order to have the catus cut up and removed so I could repair the fence. His team showed up early in the morning and was able to have everything removed and the area cleaned up within a couple hours. read more

Our big tree with a huge trunk fell down in our parking area and blocking the drive way and Sam's tree was able to do the work the same day. I actually called another yard cleaning business that I found on yelp. They came out to give me an estimate and told me that the job was larger then they could handle. They referred me to Sam's Tree Service. I had a very tall weeds that were taking over my large backyard as well as my front yard. I also have 8 redwood trees that needed the bottom branches trimmed along with various dead or semi-dead trees and bushes. Sam came out and provided a very reasonable estimate. He came out a few days later and had a crew with him. They immediately got to work and when I returned home from work, you would not have known that weeds even existed. Our neighbors recommended Sam to us, so we gave him a call and told him that we needed to have a few trees removed from our backyard because they were growing too close to our house and were starting to tamper with our foundation. Sam came out and gave us an estimate right away, and his quote was actually so much cheaper than what we had expected. He asked me what I had in mind, and I told him the dollar amount. He laughed and told me that he could charge me a lot more if I wanted him to. :) I gave him a call a couple weeks later and told him that we would like to go with him and his team. They came by today exactly at 10am like he said they would and got working right away. It was a warm day today, but we saw that the team of 5 just kept on working. They did a great job, and it was a no-hassle experience. They had accidentally cut a couple of our surface sprinkler pipes when they removed two of our large trees, but they fixed the pipes right away by buying new piping and installing everything back for us. Overall, we are very pleased with their services and will definitely call them back in the future when we need to get some trees trimmed back in our yard. read more

The business performed the same work under 2 contracts from two households and collected money from both My neighbour called the tree service and got a quote on my behalf for the trimming of a tree based in my yard. The quote was for $800. The tree branches overhang to this neighbours house. Once he had the quote he asked the business to come to me to finalize the deal. The business gave me a quote of $800. He was then asked to perform the service which he did. Once the service was done he asked for $800 from me and my neighbour. When we aksed why he indicated these were two contracts. We were never disclosed that this was the case to any of us. He turned abusive and in the end we paid $1600. I want everyone to be beware of the treachery of Sam read more

On Regards to the comment that Pankaj M . made I have been a customer with sam for many years and I know its not true. I asked him about the situation and he stated that " He knew their was two separate contracts with two different payments and no mix up could have occurred, that sam believes he was just trying to get out of pay " Companies deal with customers like that all the time. I believe and encourage you to believe that sams statement about the situation is the truth . As a customer that has been with sam for many years I can tell you their is nothing to beware of . Also in no way shape or form was sam abusive , that comment was quite ridiculous i would recommend sams tree service 100 percent and wouldn't like to see a good company get a bad review. read more
