Slow service cold food. I went on a non bust day and the food and attitude helped reduce my appetite. Save your money.

Place has been closed since I arrived in August of 2022. I'm sure the building is nice as well as the staff, however fort Irwin leadership, MWR or whom ever is responsible for the hiring process is dropping the ball big time. They said it would be open may 2023 and it's still closed. Fort Irwin higher needs to do better. read more

Great service and food! A few things struck me as odd though: My biggest issue was- there were no drink menus. Any decent establishment offers a drink menu. It doesn't have to be fancy. It can be something like- a list of beers or alcohol/signature drinks printed on flip cards that remain at the table. That detail made it awkward to order when our waitress came to ask what we wanted to drink. My second gripe is the cheapie 6 pack condiment holder. I love that idea, but the 6 pack holder needs to be reinforced. I thought that the condiments were going to fall though the bottom at any moment. I also feel like the place needs some renovation to look more rustic if that is the feel they are going for. Hopefully the new management irons out the kinks, Overall- I loved the food and the service. We were lucky enough to be there during an American Idol type event was happening, and it seems like a great place to karaoke or see live entertainment. I look forward to returning! read more

Ordered food for a family of 5 and it came out very quick and pretty good. I don't usually take home food but I took home the fettuccine Alfredo since it was really good. A nice set up when it comes to the pool tables and bar. And a sit down restaurant if you don't want any of that. I would come back and try some more food. read more

Beyond under staffed. Takes way too long to get served. I've stood at the bar for 10+ min without any of the bartenders even asking me what I wanted. You have to fight for their attention. I've worked as a bartender and almost never do you ever take just one order at a time, but I'm guessing they don't get much training here. Food is alright, but bring your own spice. read more

Beer is good, however they ran out very early. I never got my food order, they put someone else is order on my tap, didn't offer to bring out my order in a timely purpose after the mistake. This is the only real restaurant at Fort Irwin which makes it popular by default. It also explains why the service is atrocious. The wait staff almost seem to work with no expectation that they'll receive tips (I do tip though, but it really is a gesture of sympathy). I would have given this place only one star but this restaurant is a victim of its location. Note: every unit does social events here, especially Operations Group. I'd like to say that I don't blame the staff that was working tonight. It was literally two people; one person at the bar and one person in the dining room (who is normally a bartender). Zero servers. Not one. No bussers. No cashier. No drink/food runners. I repeat, two people. I've been coming to Fort Irwin for almost 20 years. The previous iteration of the restaurant was Reggie's; a horrible place to be served (or not as the case was). Sam Adam's took over and the service and food improved. Tonight, however, was below par, even for when it was Reggie's. You can't order from the main menu at the bar anymore and it took 10 minutes to find that out since the bartender was cashing people out at the register for that long. The bartender was running his own food (from a limited bar menu) from the kitchen. Yep, completely unattended bar for 5-10 minutes at a time. Stood in the dining area for five minutes before I noticed the lone person working there (she was in the back getting food prior, again not the staff's fault). She brought menus and got our drink order and said she was alone and usually the bartender. She was seating people, taking orders, running drinks from the bar, running food from the kitchen, bussing tables, and running the register all by herself. For ~40 people. It's a ridiculous notion to put that much work on one person. There's no way she could attend to all those people in a timely manner. The food came out an hour after we ordered. I can't say how many people were in charge of cooking a burger and throwing three pieces of cold broccoli in a dish, so I can't comment. I can say it took an hour. The food is decent, the prices are not unreasonable, the staff is typically pleasant, but whoever is in charge of staffing the place is not paying attention to these reviews. I sort of get it though; the staff must be picked from Army spouses on garrison or must drive in 40-50 miles from Barstow. Not ideal. Read the reviews; they mention the same thing repeatedly. The servers and bartenders are set up to fail. Please tip them, they are overwhelmed and doing the best they can. read more

Normally, I would give this restaurant 3 stars at best. The food is decent. I've been told not to go there, but I feel like it was good if compared to the other restaurants on post. I would only put it second best to shockwave. And shockwave has odd hours, so we don't count on it as an option. We've had hot wings, fish and chips, buffalo chicken wrap, and several sandwiches at Sam Adam's Grille. I enjoyed the food, even though nothing was remarkable, it was satisfying and my only complaint is that they are often out of quite a few items on the menu, and sometimes in the bar, too. But considering the lack of options here, and the recently changed menu (within 6-12 months, from what I've heard) this is a decent choice for a family dinner if you go in early evening. read more

This place is really crap. For being a restaurant on a military base you figure they would have some standards and service. Friday was my first attempt with my guys. We came in had no inside sitting we asked if it was ok to sit outside told us pick where ever you like. We had 2 before our next meeting. So we waited and 10 minutes someone came out and took our drink orders they came back and took our orders.After about 40 minutes the waitress comes back didn't put our order in and had to reconfirm our orders placed. So after all our waiting for 1.5hrs we still haven't gotten our food. We tell them conceal our orders and leave. We got no respect and the service was really below par. Saturday my co-workers and I give them a second chance, So we go and get seated as soon as we come in. We place our order and get our drinks. One of my guys drinks his beer and we all notice that a long hair is in the beer and attached and we complain show them the hair, the serve apologizes and calls the bartender over she comes over and makes a funny comment like you didn't like what I put in there for you and then replaces the beer. I ordered the the Flat Iron Pub Steak which stated came with mashed potatoes and vegs. It comes out with fries and toast. The serve didn't ask me how I liked my steak cooked, didn't tell me they ran out of anything and made the changes with out asking me or telling me. All in all the nearest restaurant to sit down and eat is 40 miles away. As I come here a lot for training I will gladly drive 40 miles away to get better service and better food. Even the employees seem so clueless. Just go somewhere else really not worth it at all. read more

The facilities are nice, food is decent, and they have an event every night during the week. I will say it's understaffed, and it's too common of an occurrence that you can show up for Karaoke or Trivia night and they're cancelled last minute. The service can be slow but that's more to do with the fact it's understaffed and not the employees themselves. I will say Crystal, the bartender, is the only reason I go as often as I do. She is by far not only the best but my personal favorite. The day Sam Adams loses her, is the day half your customers stop showing. She is a staple in that establishment and I'm sure any bar in Barstow would love to have her. I'm just happy the restaurant is able to remain open. The place very clean and appears they can do with more tables; maybe it doesn't get that busy. I found out waitress Lily very attentive. The food was excellent, all dishes. And of course prices ultra cheap. Only downside they do not accept Amex. No worries and we walked away completely satisfied!! read more

Clean yes, boring, absolutely. This is THE ONLY restaurant on post and they don't even bother to make it look like one. Food is bland with few options. Another order at the register and we'll bring it out to you. It's also closed on weekends... too bad Bc the building is really nice but they decided to put negative effort into the "Dessert Oasis". The only reason this place is still open is because it's the only thing that remotely resembles a steakhouse in the area and because units rotate through and then leave from this isolated military outpost whose existence is probably only due to some legislative earmark some California congressperson was able to secure decades ago because there is no reason for life to exist in the middle of the Mojave desert. The service was fine, but the poor waiter struggled to inform us that the steakhouse was out of steak and that they were out of half of the rest of the menu. Next, our drinks started pouring in after our food came, and stuff we didn't order showed up on the table. After we choked down our food without drinks, we were informed that the credit card machine was down and that we needed to go to the ATM. Oh and the excuse for the beer being late was because the bartender was busy and the waiter "doesn't know what her problem is". You'll probably still come here because you're desperate after wasting a month of your life in this abysmal place, but beware. read more

The only place to eat in this forsaken hell hole that no one cares about. Expect to not even see anyone working during the open hours of operation. Staff are hiding in the back somewhere or simply there is just one person working the whole place. If you order food at the bar expect 30 - 80 minutes for an order of wings. The menu at the bar is garbage and features food mostly heated up in a microwave. The place refuses to bring food from the restaurant side which is located across a hallway. The place also plays ridiculously annoying and inappropriate explicit music. Oh don't forget that even though this is Sam Adam's - they will most likely not have any beer on tap. They are always our and only have crappy domestic beer in bottle. If the bar has more than 2 customers expect to be ignored as the waitress is typically overwhelmed with taking orders from more than 2 people. GOOD JOB ft. Irwjn...way to maintain the status quo of everything being a ravenous dump on this hated desert waste. Go save yourself a headache - get a 6 pack if beer from the class 6 or gas station across the street and the same frozen food you will find at the restaurant, then go home to enjoy it. Tuesday, 16 October 2018: The food is okay, but too expensive for what they serve. A burger at Sam Adams is Not any better or bigger than any other burger joint. In fact Fat Burgers and Red Robins burgers are 5 times better. The food is okay, but it is the slowest place to eat on base. Taco Bell on F.I base is the next slowest place on the entire base. Five people can be in line and it will take 20 minutes to get your order at TB. I am a retired military veteran. Sam Adams service has ALWAYS been very slow. It was slow when it was named "Reggie's" and it is NOT any better or faster now under the new name. I called today and spoke to manager, Mr. P and told him about how slow the service use to be. P, said that the service was better now and faster with the new lunch specials. That excuse might fly over with some first time customer, but Not with anyone who has been there over a period of years. The service was very slow and lousy as Reggie's and still just as slow today. I went there last year a few times and the last time, I ate there for lunch with fellow green suiters and federal civilians. I ordered fries and everyone at other tables were getting their meals and my table was getting their meals. By the time my fries came, people were ready to go back to work. And the waitress had the nerve to ask me, if I wanted my fries to go. The whole idea was to eat there, not back at my desk. Today, my entire team wanted to eat there for lunch. Over a period of years, I as well as other soldiers and co-workers experienced the very slow moving like a turtle service. Anyhoo, we all arrived today for lunch and to present awards to a few soldiers. I will Not spell out the other dissatisfied customers whole names. My co-worker, Mr. B and I got in line made the order, which was the weekly lunch special. I was number 40. Mr B was #39. After waiting a while, I began to watch the waiter & waitress bring orders in. On top of that, Mr. B's order was wrong, but at least he got some food, where as I nor Sergeant S nor Mr. R NEVER got our food at all. We had to cancel because it was time to go. Eventually, I was seeing full meals brought to customers, numbers was 42 then 54, then 67 and 84 then back to 24 etc... I asked a waiter about my order. He said he would check into it. I never got my sprite or 7 up or Sierra Mist. After nearly 20 minutes on my watch which I bought in Israel, I finally asked for my drink, but instead of the waitress giving me what I asked for, I got carbonated soda water. I went and sat next to a fellow soldier, SGT S. He too had been waiting so long for his order. Eventually, SGT S got frustrated and just left. He said he was going to the chow hall/DFAC where service is much faster even with a line of soldiers and federal employees. Meanwhile I continued to wait as more orders were brought in past my number 40 and some before my number 40. Eventually, our newest federal civilian employee, Mr. R also got frustrated and he too had to cancel his order. Mr. B and I had to go to a mandatory training class, so he had to get his money back which took a while itself. What I want to know is how can so many ticket orders come out of order? I can understand one or two, but ticket order after ticket order kept coming out as my number was never called even after asking a waiter and waitress to find out what was happening. I am only giving it two [2] stars instead of one because the poor service is Not the waiter/waitress fault. It is the slow inept cooks on duty who do not know or care to prepare food in the order of a customers ticket number. I will Never eat there again on F.I base even if someone is paying for my meal. read more

The service in this restaurant is terrible. I've never been to a place where I've been sitting at the bar so long that I had to stand up and walk to the end of the bar to cash out. The server was so consumed with standing at the cash register and taking orders from customers that she would only walk down the bar to get a drink for each customer standing in her line at the cash register. I ordered nachos that took over 45 minutes to serve and they were equal to gas station nachos but cost twice as much. The management here is terrible. From hiring the staff to managing the mass confusion and hysteria that overwhelms them. There's potential here with the right people, but right now it's terrible. read more

Tonight was the last time I eat at the Sam Adams grill. I had to ask for silverware, napkins, creamer for my coffee, plates for the appetizer, and refills. It was empty in the restaurant so I don't know why they are so inattentive and slow. Our food took 30 minutes to come out. The new menu is horrible. The Italian roast beef sandwich was disgusting and tasted like the meat was sitting there all day. It has no flavor. The waitress even commented on how bad it looked after I complained about it. If it looked so bad why would you even serve it? Unfortunately this place stays open because it's the only sit down restaurant on post and within 40 miles. People get bored and desperate here at Fort Irwin. I see why it's always dead and I hope it gets replaced with something else. Please! read more

The staff is clueless. Have been twice, well one and a quarter. WILL NOT go back! The wait times to get served and get your food are ridiculous. The staff does not know their product. Service is everything to me. I can overlook a lot of things if the service is good. I have been to this restaurant two times the first time I had a server named Sam and the second time a server named Cherokee. Both of them were beyond warm and friendly. They took time to talk and always had a smile. I do not know them personally on any level but they made me feel very welcome. They don't get five stars because the food and drinks are slow, but there are tvs with sport games on if you're into that kind of thing, but I like to take my kids. Which is a whole other story I have heard they seat people with kids in a separate area but I have not found that to be true. All and all this is a nice little place to eat but could use a little face lift and maybe some help speeding things up in the kitchen. Other than that it serves it's purpose. read more

Food was not tasty from the appetizer nachos to the Swiss mushroom burger and fries. The service was totally sub par too. The one good thing (hence the 1 star) was the IPA on tap. Can't really mess that up. In a barron place like Fr Irwin they should at least have a good place to eat cause there's already not much. read more

I was hesitant to go here based on other reviews but decided to give it a shot. The decor of the restaurant was not what I imagined and did not fill me with positivity; they do have two sides, the bar and the dining room. The bar has a limited menu so I decided to sit in the dining room. I found the service to be polite and quick, contrary to what I'd read. My waitress was attentive and took good care of me. I got a burger and fries, the burger was nothing to write home about but the fries were tasty. Honestly, I would probably have ordered something different but they have calorie counts printed on their menu and the burger was lower than many choices. For me, this place has potential but was let down by mediocre food. A tasty burger should be an easy one. read more

A clean sit down restaurant on a military post? Bonus star awarded. This place does get busy, so be prepared to wait a while for your food. Decent selection of food with daily off-menu specials. The frickles are great as an appetizer, think fried zucchini with a kick. Mahi wasn't bad, but nothing to brag about. I wanted to try a burger, but they only cook them well done which was a deal breaker for me. The grilled chicken breast was cooked perfectly, nice and moist with plenty of flavor. Overall a solid choice for dinner and great for large groups, and ranks high among the other restaurants (which are mostly fast food) on post. read more

Saw the previous reviews and was a little aprehensive!! Didn't want to go off base but wanted a decent sit down restaurant. You can't mess up having a Samuel Adams. However, the jalapeño poppers and meat Chile are great. Had for the final course the rib eye. It was medium the way I wanted it. For the price, portion and quality, I don't know why the restaurant was rated so low. I recommend this restaurant to anybody staying at Ft Irwin!! read more

Contrary to what I've heard about that place ad my personal experience with Reggie's this place was fairly good. The service was nice and friendly. The food was served in a timely manner and it was good too. The only minus was the temperature of our starter- the poppers were cold. Other than that we enjoyed our lunch. read more
