This is probably the best Korean restaurant in/near the McCart Street/I-20 area. Hands down my favorite in Fort Worth. I love their Spicy Pork Bulgogi! A must-have here! It's also the only place I have been served garlic stems as a side for the bulgogi. My wife ordered the chicken teriyaki and said it was very good as well. I eat her at least 1/mo minimum. Was in the other night, had been several years since my last visit, and I remembered a calm atmosphere, and good (not the greatest I had had) Korean food. This visit was overall a HUGE disappointment, but the flavor and texture of the Galbi is all that stands between 3 stars and 2 stars (or even 1 star) for this visit. But even after reflecting on the service and food, went back and changed to a 2 star...and they barely deserve that. Start with the good: Galbi - beef was tender, not overcooked, great thickness, well marinated. Probably the very best Galbi I have had, and I do love Korean food. That's all the good...shame. The bad: Service - The hostess was intrusive and rude. She's young, but obviously has not been trained in serving customers and it showed. Waitress was acceptable, but not attentive. And as I ate I got to hear the hostess and waitress talk about family, growing up, living in apartments, and everything else going on in their lives as they were but a few feet away and talking as if no one in restaurant. Surprised owner allows this disruptive behavior on the dining floor. Atmosphere - radio playing too loud...hostess milling around carrying on obtuse conversations with customers...waitress actually told hostess (not quietly) in front of me "will you cover table x, I need to go clean the bathroom"...you damn sure bet I looked to see if she had washed her hands after and as she was serving my food (and yes, it did appear she had). Side dishes - none tasted fresh or inviting, and the kimchee tasted spoiled and flat. Definitely the worst side dishes I have had in a Korean restaurant, and surprising considering the home run hit with the Galbi. Overall, will not be a third visit back to Sam Won, and cannot recommend someone giving it a try. If wanting a true Korean experience, find one of the many places in Dallas and make the drive over...but this is NOT the place for a great Korean food dining experience. Avoid. read more

Passing by here many times for the last few months. I was too skeptical seeing it being the only asian business in a somewhat complicated neighborhood, n taking it for granted seeing how close it is to my work, took me months to finally come here when my SO suggested it for our quick lunch date. We came in around 11:45am. There were only 2 other tables so the service was fast for us. I got the soft tofu with seafood soup, and my bf had the lunch special: beef bulgogi bento box. The soup was a lil smaller in size than what I normally get elsewhere, but it was full of flavor and packed with a lot of seafood. The side dishes were also delicious and taste like they're made in house (kimchi and the spicy cucumber). The bento box is a great lunch deal. It comes with a good amount of beef bulgogi, well marinated and wasn't too greasy, a side of rice, 4 small side dishes, 2 pieces of kimbap, and a big piece of fried calamari, all for about $10. Sam Wong is definitely a well kept hidden gem. The next best option for Korean food would be either in Irving or Carrollton. Hopefully more people would know about this place to keep it around for a long time. read more

Was so glad to find a decent Korean spot nearby for really reasonable prices. It's located in a kinda run down strip mall and is very unassuming from the front. We've been here a couple of times and so far everything has been on point. There are barbeque grills on each table but most people seem to be content ordering food a la carte and served from the kitchen. The banchan selection is also very decent and they all tasted good. The haemul pajeon was really delicious, very crispy and great tasting. If you come at lunch, there are also lots of good and affordable bento lunchbox options. The only bad experience I've had here so far was when I ordered a kalbi tang and when it came out it was absolutely tasteless. I sent it back and 2 minutes later it came back out tasting just as expected. All in all, I will definitely be back for more to satisfy my Korean cravings. read more

A very tasty and enjoyable experience. Only complaint is that service was a tad slow and inattentive at times (never did get my second beer - see below). The staff however is very friendly and is quite good at making recommendations. I saw an ad for Sam Won Garden in the Fort Worth Weekly a while back and have been wanting to try it ever since. I thought it would be nice to have a Korean option closer to home, but with the traffic on 35W, we could have driven to North Dallas in the same amount of time (we live in North Fort Worth). As such, we kept our friends waiting almost 20 minutes. Sorry about that. We started with an order of egg rolls and the kimchi pancake. Egg rolls were decent, but nothing to write home about. They were served with some odd, sweet, jam like substance. The addition of some of the Korean hot sauce (ask for it) improved the sauce greatly. The kimchi pancake was wonderful. There are several pancakes on the menu, but I think this is the most interesting. The kimchi was not the super spicy variety, so the pancake was enjoyed by all. It served the four of use nicely. For mains we had a marinated beef (sorry for not remember the Korean name, bulgogi I think) and a seafood soup with tofu (no idea on name). In additional to the two mains, the meal was served with a plethora of sides (banchan) too numerous to mention. I wish I had counted, as I think there were a least a dozen little dishes with many a tasty treat. The beef was fantastic. Tender and flavorful, it was the hit of the evening. The seafood soup, served with tofu, only pleased two us (and I was not one of the two). My problem with the soup was the inclusion of dried shrimp. I do not like the tiny dried shrimp prevalent in so many Asian dishes. It's a flavor (like Vietnamese mam tom) is a flavor I do not like. For me it ruins any dish it goes in. I realize it's a flavor some people love (again like mam tom), but I am not one of those people. Thuy liked the soup, so from that perspective it's not a bad soup, just not a soup for me (next time I will go with one of the meat options). All in the all the meal was quite good. As I mentioned above, the only area that could be improved was speed of service. Thuy made the observation that food seems to come out on a table by table basis, and that included appetizers too. It's like the kitchen only works on one ticket at a time. For that reason I would hate be be here during a full house. That being said, I would still come again... I just need to figure out when traffic is better on 35W (maybe when/if all the construction is finished) and the restaurant is less busy (it was about half full on the night of our visit - A Saturday around 7:30PM). Beer - I was pleased to see the Korean beer, Hite, on the menu. I was even more pleased when in addition to the lager I'm used too, our server informed me that they also have Hite Black Beer Stout, something I have not had before. I thought it would go well the the spiciness of the food we were about to eat, and it did. I think there was also a third Hite offering, something in between, but I don't recall what it was. Toward the end of the meal I did order a second beer, to help with the shrimp taste still in my mouth, but it never came. By the time I was able to flag down our server, the meal was almost finished so I skipped it. Next time I'll order the second beer sooner. Bottom line: I'm very pleased to see some Korean options in Fort Worth. We will most definitely be back. PS. The tables are equipped with cook tops, but I did not see a single one in action at any other table. Oh, and what's with all the battery powered lanterns in the restaurant? Does this place have a lot of power failures, or is it something else? read more

I can't believe all my years living in Fort Worth I've never heard this place. Apparently they've been open about 17 years I believe. I was craving Korean food but didn't want to drive far to Carrollton. Found this place on Yelp and had to try it. Service was so friendly there. Food took a little long but not at a point to complain about it. The place was busy so we understood. When the food came it was exactly what I pictured and more! I love those Korean sides and that's what we got. There are places that give you sides of course but only about 4 items. This place had 9 if I can remember correctly. My husband and I have been coming here for years now. It has been perfection every single time. Our favorite is the spicy Bibimbap and they happily refill our Bachan when we ask. Everything is fresh. We could eat here every day! Don't let the look of the outside of the restaurant turn you away. It's in a strip shopping center. Inside you'll find a kind staff and a clean restaurant. For someone who lives close to Carrolton and has access to all the Korean restaurants near H-Mart, this is alright. But for what it is as a traditional Korean restaurant in Fort Worth (which there are not a lot of), this is great. Very low-key and in a non-descript area with wonderful service. Can't say enough about our servers, as they were friendly and attentive with my family. For starters we had 2 pancakes; leek & pepper and kimchi. They were good. The spiciness of the kimchi was moderate, so it wasn't bad. We then ordered 3 meats; L.A. Galbi, spicy bulgogi, and pork belly. The L.A. Galbi was the best as it was perfectly charred with great umami flavor. The bulgogi and pork belly were alright as both were a tad overcooked/dry. I'd probably get the L.A. Galbi again coming back. We also ordered the pan fried squid with vegetables, and chicken fried rice. These were alright, but I can't complain because the price point (what we ordered + bonchon) is pretty affordable. All in all, it's a nice hole-in-the-wall that Fort Worth needs for authentic Korean food. read more

Unfortunately the last few times i've been I have had what seemed to be hairs in my food, I tried to give them benefit of the doubt maybe it was ginger fibers, etc.. nonetheless it was off putting and I haven't had it in a while. My friend and I went to this place to try a new Asian restaurant. It's not fancy so don't expect anything crazy in the menu - the place is family own. Reminds me of my years living in Hong Kong (very Asian inside); Korean TV on, a regular boombox playing music, ads from Korean products. Lots and lots of place to sit!!! Service was great - they do delivery who I believe was the father of what appeared to be the owner. Korean beer!!! Not easily found in many places. It's not strong; more like a stronger Corona. The Korean BBQ wasn't bad, but I've had a lot better in my days. I got a bento box which was the lunch special and you get a good deal for what you get at around $10. You get miso soup, kim bap (Korean-style sushi), jap chae (sweet potato noodles), pickled veggies and Kim Chi, rice, and meat of choice out of bulgogi, pork, chicken. I was craving for more flavor with the bulgogi in all honesty. However, they do have numerous other items on their menu which may be better but I think it's fair to judge a Korean restaurant on by their bulgogi. Tried this place out for the first time and while it was a bit of a hike from Roanoke it was definitely worth the trip. Sadly there just isn't much to choose from for Korean restaurants in Tarrant county but the food here is just as good as most of the places we've tried in Dallas.
