The ambiance was very relaxing but it didn't look like they were too busy on a Friday. Our waiter was very friendly and it's a place where you order at a kiosk and they would bring the food out to you. We ordered takoyaki and tofu as appetizers and ramen as our entree. The takoyaki was good but I didnt really taste the octopus and the tofu is meh. I think the ramen broth should've been creamier since it was a tonkontsu style so I would say I had better but I did like their noodles. So we were looking for a place that we haven't tried before to eat before we went to the show at the Omni Theater, and I came across this place in my search and realize I never been there and it was actually in the spot where kintaro Ramen used to be which is close to where our show was so we ended up here. When you first walk in there are two tablets that contain their menu did you order from these tablets and pay before you sit down which is open seated this is not a common concept but obviously there was a food Runner who helped us and he was very nice. I ordered the pork fried dumplings as an appetizer and my girlfriend ordered the fried shrimp both were fresh and delicious, and we both ordered the Korean Style beef plate which was also very fresh and delicious and I need if you're going to put the word Umami in your name then it better be Lol. Biggest critique was the food took a little while to come out even though it wasn't very busy, but sometimes you have to wait for fresh me to order food which we don't have a problem with. Great bistro if you're looking for your Japanese food fix, close by the TCU campus on the corner of Foch St. Park on the street or in the adjacent parking structure, there's a QR code in the restaurant to validate your parking. Ok when you walk inside there's lots of room, nice chill vibe, modern Japanese decor. Nothing too much, there's some TVs on the bar side in front. So you order at the front and just sit, they'll bring your order out. We had the grilled mussels, a bento box with tempura, steak, salad, rice and miso soup. Takoyaki, and also a curry ramen, which had shrimp tempura. There's some good music playing, I suggest coming early for lunch or an early dinner. Stopped in here for a mid afternoon lunch and it was the perfect low key break. You order from a tablet and pay before sitting down which made everything super smooth and efficient. We went with ramen and a few small plates and everything came out fresh and satisfying. Even with the streamlined ordering the service didn't feel impersonal at all. Our server was very attentive and even addressed us by name since you name your order at the start which was a small touch but honestly kind of impressive. On a cold Sunday, I was craving some ramen for dinner. Umami recently opened and I was excited to try a new restaurant. It was easy to order online and pickup my order. The order was well packed and luckily it was easy to decipher which ramen belonged to whom. My only critique would be to label the ramens in case the broths do look similar. I ordered the curry ramen and was not disappointed. I wish the broth had a bit more flavor, but everything was cooked very well. The pork gyoza was also good, with the accompanying sauce being the star of the show. Hopefully the community is supporting this new business, and I'll definitely be back for another good meal. read more

Quick and friendly service. I don't understand why this place isn't packed. The food was hot, fresh, delicious! My dishes consisted of fried mackerel, grilled wing skewers, bacon wrapped asparagus, pork skewers, and fried squid tentacles. We really wanted to love this place based on the reviews, but opinions are definitely mixed. The four of us each ordered a different type of Ramen with different broth, one curry, one tonkatsu, one black garlic, and one shoyu. If we had all ordered the shoyu, I would've definitely upgraded this rating to a four. That is by far the best tasting and flavorful Ramen broth that they offer, so don't miss out on it. The rest were sort of bland and lacking a maturity to the flavor that you would expect from a really good Ramen broth. That being said, the noodles were perfect, the pork was fantastic, so they've definitely got the meat and toppings correct. We also ordered the grilled squid because we had seen so many good reviews, but in reality it lacks flavor and was kind of chewy. We took the rest home for the dog. Service was friendly though definitely expect food to take a little while longer than normal to get out to the table, and it wasn't served all at the same time. There was probably a good 10 to 15 minute wait between the first entrée that was presented versus the last entree - ambience is consistent with the restaurant that was previously there, clean, open, and Japanese themed. read more

The menu has a variety of items. Many options of appetizers, sides, grilled items, Bento boxes boxes, ramen, udon and alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. It is self service. This self ordering interface was easy to use. I knew what I was ordering and it included pictures. It was more convenient and than trying to remember what I wanted and explain that to a server, but a friendly server was available if I needed anything else. Service was great and quick. What I was most impressed with was the reasonable prices. I was able to try dango for the first time for only $2. We were excited about having dango. Tasted very good, almost like mochi consistency kinda sweet. They bring a glass bottle of water to the table. We ordered many items because we wanted to try several different options. I had lychee tea that was delicious !its topped with fresh lychee. The aji tempura (3 pieces of mackerel) it was my favorite. The tempura crispness and texture was perfect and the seasoning was great. We also ordered chicken karaage, yakitori wings, grilled chicken skewers, beef udon and grilled squid. Mom and Pop style run place now in the same building as the old Kintaro. The staff is friendly but to the point. We had the spicy tonkatsu and regular tonkatsu. The broths are creamy and perfectly seasoned for our tastes. The noodles had the right amount of spring and texture. We used to love coming to kintaro ramen but the last few times we had went wasn't to great. We gave the new restaurant a try and it was great the ramen was really good and the appetizers were delicious! Love the new look they also redid the bench seats and it felt very comfortable! Food was fine. I didn't get what I ordered but tasted fine. There would have been no possibility of changing the order because the waiter never returned to my table. When I came in I was the only one here . A few others came in after I got my food. That seemed to be enough to completely distract the waiter. I think he was doing everything because he spent a lot of time in the kitchen. I would recommend making sure there is actual waiter if you come here. You pay ahead here. I wanted to love this place. Ever since my favorite Asian place closed down in FW, I've been looking for a solid replacement. We stopped by here on a Sunday evening. Place was pretty much empty. You order at a small computer and they bring it out to your table. Server was super friendly and checked on us frequently. We got a bunch of small plates to share: Shrimp Tempura, Karaage, chicken heart skewers, black cod and sausage skewers. The black cod I truly did enjoy as well as the chicken heart skewers. Everything else was just okay. The batter for the karaage was very heavy. The dipping sauce for the shrimp tempura was just a sweet and sour sauce that did not pair well. The sausage wasn't anything special. Not sure if I would want to try their ramen or udon, but I feel like those would probably be better than some of their appetizers.
