I really thought they were great at moving my items until I saw the size of the truck. The truck was too small and should not have been used for the amount of furniture I had. A year later I'm still finding damage when I get down on the floor to clean and I see chunks of wood missing from my table legs and white scrapes on the chair legs. This furniture was about six years old when they moved it, and I dusted and covered any dings regularly. I had regularly examined the furniture, but I didn't have kids at the home so it was in great condition. The supervisor complained that he didn't know that items in the garage were included in the move. He didn't think they had enough room, but he canceled the second truck, which they honestly should have used. He also wanted the guys to be off before 4, so it was very rushed. Then he overcharged me, but I did receive a refund after speaking to the business person. I'm very upset about the amount of damage I have found, but I'm not surprised because I couldn't figure out how they got all of it into the truck. I wish I had found the damage earlier, but I had water damage in the bathroom and I had to vacate my unit. One bedroom had to be packed and moved a month after I moved in. I had found some damage on a chair right after I moved, but I thought that was it and I should've checked everything better but I was depressed because of the water damage that happened four days after I moved in. Then my dog got sick with leukemia. He passed away a few months after I moved. Most of the guys were very nice but the supervisor had an attitude. I wasn't sure whether to put two or three stars, but because most of the fault is with the supervisor and not the moving crew, and because the business person took care of damage to my end table I am giving three stars. read more

We've used these guys twice in the last year as we were in a transitional home for 9 months until we found a more permanent place. Both quotes came from Michael Volpe. The second quote was for 12K to move two miles. The first move was from San Francisco to San Rafael. It was about 30 boxes and some very small furniture and clothing. Excect on moving day the guys did not bring wardrobe boxes, so my husband had to bring all of our clothes in the car. No apology, no adjustment to the bill. A few days ago we moved from a small two bedroom condo to a single level home 2 miles away. We asked them to pack and unpack. I was told by Michael that they would pack and unpack for us. We are an older couple, both with injuries and so we were looking forward to the help. We were booked with 7 guys for 71/2 to 81/2 hours over two days. The move started off bad, as we were told they "don't really unpack as they are not organizers." We were confused as we were led to believe they would put some stuff away, which apparently they do to some extent. I asked them to simply label the boxes from where they took them. E.g. "Master bathroom vanity drawer." They did not really label stuff and to be honest, they just threw a lot of stuff in boxes. So when they got to the new place they did not know where to put some of the boxes and it was pretty clear they did not care. By 12:30 on the first day, Ronaldo (lead guy) informs me he can't complete the move that day. I asked why and he said several times, "Are you cool with paying me overtime? If I don't stop now it's time-and a half." At the same time he was also saying he did not want a long day on the second day of the move. So I contacted Michael who said he would talk to Ronaldo. Keep in mind, I'm there alone, while my husband is in the new place. Ronaldo is pissed at this point and tells his team they have to "Move this Sh__ !" I felt really uncomfortable. So they had no problem at all moving everything over to the new place. I think they left around 4:00 after taking a 25 minute break in the morning and at least 45 minutes for lunch, which I supplied and they seemed to feel entitled to. The next day they showed up at 8:15 to unpack. It was a joke. They stained the wall from moving. My husband just had it painted and it not take a picture, so we can't file a claim. He did get them to help put stuff away, but they mostly put stuff where ever they wanted and it was random as they did not label boxes correctly. They were gone bynoon however, so no one had a long day, expect us, as we are still trying to figure out where our stuff is days later. read more

johnson & Daly are excellent professional and residential movers. each time they arrive the movers are courteous, completely cognicent of the parameters of the move, timely, careful, and their helpful and friendly attitudes are the easiest to have in your home or business without question! Taylor and Sergio just moved an armoire in two pieces that was very heavy, then without doubt moved two cement carved statuary planters that are the heaviest pieces that other gardeners and movers hesitated up two flights of stairs finding the easy way up a paver path then 6 stairs! they asked if there was anything else I needed to move and left with my appreciation they were sent. they were strong and knowledgeable with my pieces. always call the BEST! it saves money in the long run and takes less time and energy!!! thank you Mike, Taylor & Sergio! read more

Taylor and Carlos (forgive me guys if I missed out on a name) moved us on the most horrific rainy day in the recent deluge, from Novato to San Rafael. Despite the conditions, they were positive and efficient; even a stubborn king-sized bed required a master-level disassembly, and they handled it with aplomb. Also, setting up the move was long-time J&D employee Mike, who was completely professional and spot-on with the very reasonable cost estimate, even with the horrible weather. Hats off to these three and J&D (who had ironically moved OUT the previous tenant in our new location) - nothing was a slam dunk about this move, but they certainly made it seem that way. read more

They were easy to work with and overall provided good service. Two issues I had with them: 1. Unskillful and excessive use of packing paper. As we unpacked, I found several small items (like what could fit in the palm of my hand) individually wrapped in several sheets of paper. This made unpacking difficult, because it was hard to identify which little blobs of paper had stuff in them and which did not. 2. They broke three of my cactuses and ignored my advice to wrap them in blankets. They went too fast with too few people. I had expected this to happen, but wish they'd have listened to me. read more

Very bad quality and experience. They had lost our boxes, they sent them and mixed them... The fire pite brand new is dammaged, the boxes and other items had the same number. I had to sign the form but add a note / IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CONFIRM THE QUANTITY OF ANYTHING. a year after we are still waiting some answers and they offer only a ridiculous amount... the value of the fire pit was 8000 usd and the rest i cannot share but is a lot of money! I cannot rave enough about our experience moving from Sausalito to St. Helena with Johnson & Daly, and specifically about Luis, Victor, Henry, and Will. The ease of which they moved some of our more daunting items (like a 4-5 foot tall wine fridge!) was seriously impressive. Johnson and Daly were great from beginning to end! The estimator and scheduler were helpful and informative and worked hard to fit us into their schedule according to our timeline. Oscar and his crew were fantastic! Jerry packed all the breakables really carefully and everything arrived intact. They were amazingly good at moving large and unwieldy objects (e.g. an oversized elliptical machine) up and down winding staircases. The entire crew was careful, considerate, and professional. Over the course of a three day move, they were always on time, unfailingly polite and without exception friendly and nice (that meant a lot to me during a stressful time!). We have, unfortunately, moved many times with various companies. Never, until using Johnson and Daly for a move from a 3br rental into our 2br first home within Marin, have we had to stand by the front door and tick off on the sheet each item that came in the house as they yelled it off. We had to stand at the front door the the entire multihour move. It seemed to be that they needed to hire an extra person to do that work. No other moving company has given me a 'job' for the full time of my move in. They also moved our Tempurpedic and didn't know it needed to lie flat on the ground or a flat surface instead of on its side. I thought that was pretty standard Tempurpedic care knowledge, especially as we had explicitly paid more for moving and care of a Tempurpedic mattress. read more

I never write yelp reviews, especially for movers I didn't end up using. Listen up people. After reading the great reviews of Johnson & Daly, I was hoping to use their services for an upcoming interstate move. When I spoke to Nathan from J&D over the phone, he explained they were fully booked, but proceeded to spend an additional 15minutes on the phone with me to help me find another mover in the area and give me his recommendations. I had a half-dozen first-time mover questions which he answered and he even offered to review any estimates for me if I emailed them to him. I took him up on his offer and emailed Nathan two quotes I had received from other moving companies. Nathan gave me a quick and helpful reply to all of my questions and gave me plain language advice on things to look out for in my quotes. I am SO thankful for people like Nathan. He reminded me of the Santa Clause in Miracle on 34th street giving me recommendations of where else to go when his company couldn't provide it's services to me themselves. Two different people recommended Johnson and Daly as simply the best in Marin to handle moving household items that included lots of delicate, 100+ year old antiques. Our first experience with Johnson & Daly was excellent. We were in a big rush. Mike Volpe squeezed us in to do the estimate which was reasonable. A couple of days later the movers showed up on time, ready to park the trucks and get to work. The leader, Tito, and his team Alan, Eder, and Jorge were all intelligent, personable and highly knowledgeable both in the moving and PEOPLE skills. They were in and out in record time. No dings. I contaced Johnson and Daly to arrange for moving from Woodacre to San Rafael, CA. on a recommendation from Aldersly Retirement Home and they could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Xavier came out to give an estimate of the move and to arrange all the details. He was always available for questions throughout the move. He also accompanied the two other men who packed up us and also unloaded and unpacked in record time. Having them do all the packing and unpacking reduced lots of waste and they took all the packing materials and boxes back with them so NO refuse on our end. They spent one day for packing up (2 large moving vans) and the next day to deliver and unpack. Everything went so smoothly that there was no stress at all. I can't recommend them more highly.
