Ramona Valley Inn - Nice sink (but nowhere to lay a moist bar of soap)

Ramona Valley Inn

Unfortunately, some of the staff came across as rude, especially the younger gentleman, which took away from the overall experience. With a little more attention to customer service and maintenance, this could be a much better place to stay.

For me, it worked out good enough as I often use hotels and motels to mainly sleep and shower when I am on vacation. If I know I am going to spend anytime in the room, I will book a higher end chain. Just a few things to note when booking: Lady at the front desk was pleasant and check in was easy enough. I was given room 201 which is right above the office and close to the road and it was louder than I like. Would recommend bringing ear plugs, just in case. Walking distance to some restaurants and shops. There is a parking lot and it can fill up, street parking available. Mini fridge and microwave in the room. No hair dryer. Lukewarm water and while not cold, and it was warm, it could have been a tad hotter. Plenty of wineries close by (if that is your thing) and lots of great hiking trails all around. Ramona is gorgeous and I enjoyed it, this place is what it is, and served its purpose.

I stayed in the cozy Sparrow cottage, which was well-decorated and had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and dishes for two. I loved the rocking chair on the patio for coffee and reading. The pool is cute and relaxing, though unheated, but the hot tub is warm. There's a serene stream with frogs croaking at night, and the property is secluded, with a few nearby wineries to explore. This retreat is ideal for couples or a small group of friends. Cons: The hot water is only lukewarm. The bed had some dirt/sand. My TV didn't work, and the bonfire is only available until 4 pm. The animal sanctuary ($7) requires a reservation, but the front desk told me to just show up. When I did, the staff said same-day reservations weren't allowed--and she was a bit cranky--so I couldn't visit. However, it's small enough to view from outside the fence. TL;DR: This ranch is feels safe, peaceful and promising. Once the restaurant opens and cleaning standards improve, it will be a perfect nature escape.

We stayed at Bandy Canyon Ranch back in October to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. I sat…read moreon this review for far too long because it honestly just made me so incredibly angry and I didn't want to relive the experience. I've also seen how the manager responds to other negative reviews and didn't feel like dealing with the attacks. I had been following Bandy Canyon on Instagram and the experience they promote online nowhere meets the reality. We chose to stay at the Eagle cabin because it had more space for our 2 kids and dog and the other rooms available were much smaller in comparison. The cabin didn't look upgraded online but for $910 for 2 nights, I assumed it had to be nicer than the photos looked. It was actually much, much worse. The website touts upgraded and renovated rooms but the Eagle cabin had clearly not been updated maybe since it had been built. I cannot begin to explain how depressing the cabin felt walking in at night. Floor to ceiling brown shiny walls illuminated by harsh white lightbulbs, no art or decor on the walls, tacky fake plant from the 90s covered in dust, yellow stained and ripped curtains. The floor was ripped and worn. It felt like a prison. The TV was missing the remote so we couldn't even turn on the TV for some added ambiance. It was dead silent. We spent hours turning the place upside down trying to find a remote, my husband was hyperventilating from how suffocating and tacky the room felt with no escape. We almost left as soon as we arrived. I called the front desk over the course of several hours. The front desk couldn't get us a remote that worked and tried calling her manager but couldn't figure out what to do. We hadn't eaten dinner so my husband reluctantly grilled us some food on the sad bbq outside our room in almost complete darkness. It was intended to be a special celebration of our 10-year wedding anniversary and it ended up being a weekend from hell. Did I mention they prohibit you from bringing your own wine? Because they sell wine on site as part of their "winery." However I was told they only had rose when I asked for a red. What is this, a college dorm? I'm going to get in trouble for bringing my own wine to celebrate my 10 year wedding anniversary? Didn't find this out until we were packing our bags for the trip and my husband was looking at their website. I somehow managed to convince my husband to stay the night versus driving home immediately. I really wanted to salvage our milestone anniversary trip! I tried using the shower and the pipes screeched loudly, sounding like someone was screaming in your ear the whole time. I sent video to the front desk. The noise was so unbearable that we couldn't even use the shower. The sound echoed through the entire house, making it impossible to ignore. These elements greatly diminished the comfort and ambiance we had anticipated. Furthermore, a major reason for choosing the ranch was the promise of a pool for our toddler to enjoy, especially as it's promoted across the ranch's Instagram. To our dismay, the pool was not heated and was too cold to use, which was very disappointing. Adding to this inconvenience, the pool bar was closed, further limiting our recreational options.    All the ranch workers we interacted with were supportive and apologetic, agreeing that the Eagle cabin was outdated and unfit for guests. They acknowledged that it should not have been rented out in its current condition. They promised us the manager would make it right. I was told she's get in touch with me after the weekend. It took me messaging them for about a solid month for the manager to finally call me, which by that point I had zero interest in talking to her. We paid good money to stay here and it was a complete waste. For 2 nights we spent almost 1k ($910 to be exact). You'd think for that kind of money we'd get a much nicer experience!

We had no problem after that. The staff are friendly and helpful. oh the shower has no pressure at all. So showering takes twice as long to get rid of the soap and shampoo. House keeping is offered every other day, but I know some Hampton locations have it daily. AYCE continental hot breakfast is included, but only from 6-9AM on weekdays and 7-10am on weekends. They had an area for hard boiled eggs the first 2 days but stopped offering it sadly There was no option for dairy free milk (like almond milk), only 2% low fat milk. Hot foods rotated between scrambled eggs or mini omelette and sausages or patty's. There was a station to make your own waffle as well as cereal and bread. There were some significantly good things about Hampton Inn Poway though. I arrived an hour before check in and was able to leave my stuff with front desk staff. The staff and housekeeping is friendly. Rooms were big, quiet and did not have an odor. Fitness room had dumbbells ranging from 5 lbs to 80 lbs, a treadmill, peloton, and an elliptical. It's refreshing to know that SDML offers one night rentals compared to some surrounding cabin properties that require two night minimal stays/ year round. We decided on Cabin 7 because of the separate bedroom and living room areas. Although this cabin sleeps 4 people, hubby and I love the extra space we can have since I'm an early "before crack of dawn" kinda gal. This cabin sits amongst one of the highest on the top of the property & the views are Lake Henshaw are gorgeous! This cabin had two full sized bathrooms WITH tubs. Water pressure is great and so is WiFi reception. We took advantage of the early check in for $25. The mattress in the bed room and the sleeper sofa are cozy. This cabin doesn't have a fire pit. But, we inquired w/ staff if we could use the fire pit down by the entrance of SDML and they were able to accommodate us w/ one that's for a vintage trailer, next to our cabin- since it was vacant for the night. Woo hoo! We had a clear night and by the time we went back to our cabin it was still early in the night that I didn't see stars yet. Make sure you bring your food/ drinks prior to your stay. Although Josie's Saloon is below, they are not attached to a grocery/ convenience store. The nearest quick mart is the Santa Ysabel Roadside Gas Station . And along the same road, a few miles down is Don's (super)Market; Dudley's Bakery; and Julian Pie Company. There's a great front porch area to relax, enjoy fresh air, listen to crickets, cows mooing, and everything else the back country has. Roads leading up to cabins/ trailers are primarily gravel/ hard packed dirt. Some of the cabins (like 5-7) and some of the vintage trailers have a bit of a steep gravel lil road. I mention this as a FYI. I ride motorcycles and am 100% more of a pavement princess, LOL. However, we did take the truck this time around that way we can haul our coolers, mini luggage, and firewood. Really looking forward to more visits here definitely & would recommend this business to everyone.

The decor and design of the place is SO creative, all the little areas look picture perfect. It is super clean inside too. Towels are new and fluffy, no stains on any sheets or towels. No dirt or dust or cobwebs. Love the cute little garden they have. Jamie and Dawn are super sweet- gave us zucchini to grill and fresh picked Gala apples to enjoy too. Firestarter and wood was provided so we could enjoy the custom popcorn popping station which was super fun to try for the first time! There's even custom flavors to sprinkle on which added to the fun! Everything is so thoughtfully curated and perfect for a family. My kids loved the giant Jenga, the mini teepee with toys inside, the cornhole, frisbee, board games, etc. So much to enjoy. And best of all was being able to pet and feed the goats, pigs, and sheep! Jamie showed us all around and we go to visit the bunnies, ducks, chickens and the whole animal crew. My kids had a blast at the farm and we look forward to returning again for a taste of country living!

We stayed Dec 26th to 29th 2020 Leave a single dish out of place or in the sink after your stay? That will be $50.00 USD. Good thing we didn't leave a single dish out! But that wasn't good enough! Jamie & Dawn (property owners) will say you left their property a mess on your AirBnB profile for other owners to see even though it is a LIE. Good thing I sensed bad vibes from these owners and took a time stamped video of the condition prior to leaving. All trash cans empty. Fridge totally empty and clean. Stove in clean visible condition. Toilet flushing perfectly. Bedding from the sofa bed taken off and folded. Did you not respond to email messages from them about using toys or sports equipment right away during your vacation? Yikes! Jamie and Dawn will review you and say your communication was "sub-par" on your Airbnb profile. Want to have visitors during the day? There's a day-use fee. You can pay the day fee and Jamie Dawn claim to accommodate your guests even though they physically did nothing but send you a request for $25 per person. Paid $75 and still, Jamie and Dawn will call out accommodating your guests who stayed outside the whole time. Did you just park in their "Parking" area far from the entrance of the barn and have to lug your roller bag to the door from the car b/c the wheels don't work on the gravel? Looking to unwind after lugging all your belongings and have a drink around 7 pm after settling in for your vacation? Well Dawn is going to knock on your door and talk you up for a good half hour about this and that while your beer gets nice and warm. Are you worried about COVID-19? Jamie and Dawn will roll right up to you without masks to the front door and in your kids' face while feeding chickens. NO MASKS. Apparently, Jamie and Dawn are really upset about the condition of the stove which was clean. If they are so upset about it, guess what, THEY DON'T WIPE DOWN OR DISINFECT THE SURFACES AFTER GUESTS LEAVE!! They charge $75 for cleaning and a $80 service fees with Airbnb reservations. Apparently, the cleaning fee doesn't get you much cleaning. Did you leave with your son on an adventure and left the wife to do some work? Well don't look now but it's Jamie walking right by the master bedroom window while she's lying in bed. Don't ask for any winery advice b/c they will send you up the street to a garbage winery. Principe di Tricase Winery. Literally, covered with old office furniture and dilapidated structures. $40 for the Nebbiolo which was disgusting. Did your partner or daughter pass a menstrual cycle? Jamie and Dawn will make sure to note that on the review of your personal profile and ask for money after the review posts to make sure everyone knows!! They don't even try to reach out directly/privately to work something out. Nope, they post it so everyone can see. #CLASSY! We researched the Airbnb community about blood issues. Here's what other Airbnb owners have to say: https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Hosting/Blood-stains-on-the-sheets/m-p/736607#M173740 "Afraid it's just a cost of doing business and you bear it. Get a good range of stain removers and hey presto, it's no big deal. I wouldn't expect my sister, mother, daughter to go to a hotel reception on departure and tell them about period stains. It's part of day-to-day life." - Airbnb community owner quote. It seems most all owners accept this as the cost of doing business. Perhaps Jamie and Dawn will start to open communication and be more professional of people trying to enjoy their vacation and privacy! Much love in 2021 and stay safe everyone!
