We have been here before and the rooms are always very clean and have no issues. However the property is getting tired. Railings have splintered wood and exposed nails, which an injury could occur especially at night, due to the poor lighting. They have lost use of the pool and activity center but wasn't told why. If we wanted to have pool access we had to go to the golf course 2 miles away. read more

STAY AWAY BED BUGS From start to finish, this was one of the worst experiences of my life. First and foremost, this hotel is wildly hard to navigate -- you cannot traverse easily from the cabins to the front desk and the pathways around the property make no sense. The times the front desk is open are incredibly limited, getting access to food or other amenities is challenging, and frankly, the front desk staff were rude and short with patrons. All of that could be forgiven were it not for the fact that we discovered upon returning home we had been bitten by bed bugs while on the property. We are of course now having to launch an extermination in our own home (the discovery was made after we unpacked -- bed bug bites appear up to two weeks after exposure, a fact I now unfortunately have to know), and are dealing with much wider ramifications. We spoke with friends also staying at the property who discovered the same issues. This is not limited to one cabin or room, but spread throughout the campus. Stay away if you value your sanity. read more

In town for my sons wedding and we decided to book this location. We arrived after 6pm which made us stop down the street to San Vincente Resort to pick up our room keys. Wasn't bad, but luckily we called ahead to say we would need a late check in otherwise we wouldn't have known until we arrived at a closed front office. In our paperwork it stated to check in the following morning, which I did. No big deal, was greeted, she was nice and friendly. Told me the details of the resort Driving to our condo at night was very hard to see the sign saying the address, really needs a light. After driving for 7+ hours and not being able to see the sign was frustrating. After a couple pass by's and now counting parking lots compared to the map we found our spot. The 2 bedroom condo was amazing. Bedrooms were huge, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living & dining rooms. If you drink coffee they give you 1 at no charge (filter with coffee inside) extra coffee is $1.25/filter. We had our own. Freezer has an ice maker, it's off so you have to turn it on. They have a small selection of creams, equal, sugar & tea. They have all the supplies, plates, pots, silverware and cooking utensils. Electric BBQ on balcony. Contactless service, just call house keeping and they will leave outside door on a table next to the door. Great overall stay. Amenities swimming pool (reserved times during Covid), spa closed, gym times available, basketball, racquetball & tennis. Parking lot right outside of our condo. This was a great find, next time we are in town to visit our son & daughter in law we will be booking here again. read more

Very nice and spacious place in Ramona. The 2 bdrm unit is big with 2 restrooms, full size kitchen, 2 patios, outdoor grill, plenty of closet space, fireplace, etc. DJ at the reception was very nice and friendly. There is a nice walk by Pappas and Cope off San Vicente Creek. The fall trees looked so nice around the property. We did some star gazing and just relaxed. We did a side trip to Julian and a couple wineries that were open. We played tennis several times. They give you some tennis balls and let you borrow tennis rackets. Have fun! read more

I played pool at the recreation center, which was fun, and the bedrooms are nice and big with plenty of storage. But, do not come here if you like to be online. The internet here sucks and I can't even do anything on my phone without it having to load for about 10 minutes. When the game I want to play is laggy, it closes out and is very annoying. If you have a Nintendo Switch, good luck. I tried connecting to the internet on my Nintendo Switch but, when you go to connect to it, it brings you to a different website to put in the password. This website doesn't work on the Nintendo Switch and I couldn't use it for my entire trip. In summary, the rooms are nice and the recreation center is fun but the internet is very bad. read more

Super accommodating staff! Its kinda far out here but you cant beat the price for all that you get along with a great helpful caring staff. It is older building, the pullout sofa is made much more comfortable if you have a foam topper. Has full size appliances and even washer and dryer. We booked there last minute and so happy we did! The lady on the phone was so friendly and helpful! We walked into our two bedroom condo and was happy to see a clean well laid out living room. The king size bedroom was comfortable and clean, the shower was nice and clean, the kitchen was nice and clean and the patios were nice and clean. After the first night there, we wished we would have stayed here all the time instead of Carlsbad! The road to town was ok.. everything seems to take 15 minutes to get anywhere, but who cares we are on vacation. The WIFI worked well for both of us. A very nice cleaning girl came by to check on us, took the trash and left me more coffee. So as you can see we were very happy with our stay there! If we lived closer we would stay here more often. read more

It's a former timeshare and from the moment you walk in, you feel like you've stepped into an '80s time-warp - think "Dirty Dancing" family vacation. There is an "activity desk" that is mostly unstaffed and it feels a little like a ghost town. We got the 2 bedroom suite and for the price, the amount of space you get can't be beat. The room was very clean, with two king beds, which were quite comfortable. The kitchen has all the basic equipment and the laundry is right inside the unit. For a family of 5, it was ideal. It is quite far to the nearest grocery store (7 miles, 15 minutes) which is something to be aware of and a little inconvenient. But with that came peace and quiet away from the crowds. Our suite had a lovely patio for us to enjoy the nice evening weather. Overall, would definitely return. read more

Pleasantly surprised with San Diego Country Estates in Ramona, CA. For one week, it served as our home away from home. We booked a 2 bedroom unit at this timeshare way in advance. When we booked, we thought it was closer to San Diego. Although it was further than expected, I would book this property again. Our unit was very comfortable. We all slept very well. It had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Only complaint would be that the walls were too thin. Thankfully, our neighbors were not loud in the evening. The property also had many facilities. I noticed a pool, billiard table, basketball court, and many tennis courts. Unfortunately, we did not use any of them. Most of the day, we were out and about exploring San Diego County. My stay in August if this year was ideal. I had a bit of difficulty finding my apt, which I rectified quickly, but other than that hiccup, I found the accommodations to fit my needs perfectly. Everything had been thought out from the kitchen, to laundry. The bed was quite comfortable. I wanted for nothing. We arrived here at 12-26-2018 for 7 days. This is the San Diego Country Estates actually located in the Ramona California. From day one the heating did not work they investigated and found that it needed a part. They gave us three space heaters and the circuit breaker kept popping all day everyday. The part for the heating never did come in so we had to utilize those three space heaters and deal with the popping of the circuit breaker. Today we were checking out we discovered three men working outside our three windows. My wife was walking with no clothes on. We should have been notified these men were outside our windows. When we initially checked into our 1 bedroom "condo" it was a bottom floor and it had NO view and was down below a hill... it was dark and cave-like... I was extremely disappointed. I called the front desk and they told me it was all they had. I said that was unacceptable. They offered us a 2 bdrm for $50 more per night. There were only 2 of us... this was more than we needed and we did not want to pay and additional $100 when all we wanted was a room with a little sunlight and a bit of a view. (Mind you, I ASKED the gal at the counter when we check in and she said it would be fine... it wasn't.) We told them we were going to leave to get something to eat and would be back... we gave them our cell numbers and said to call if they found something. While we were eating (at the Oaks Grill), they called. They found a 1 bdrm on the 2nd (top) floor, with a view! We were DELIGHTED! This room was light and bright... it felt like we were in a tree house. The places are decently decorated, clean and comfortable. They get 2 thumbs up for solving our problem!!! There are a ZILLION tennis courts (only a couple lighted) so if tennis is your think you will be delighted! There is no restaurant on property. The pool is small but clean. The clubhouse has a LOT of activities. (Kind of out of the way to have to check in to club house to get a key to go to pool and then trudge back up the stairs to return the key at the end.) I called about horseback riding, they never called me back. They only had 1 hour rides - with helmets. We were MUCH happier with our horseback ride up in Julian! We would stay at this place again if we knew we could get a great 2nd story room with a view! read more

First time visiting SD County Estates which is a beautiful property. Unfortunately the customer service is subpar. My husband and I had a late check which was further delayed due to traffic from road work on the one road into Ramon. When we finally get to the resort the office is closed. I called the number on the reservation confirmation which was to an out of state call center. After going around and around with the agent we're directed to a neighboring resort to pick up our room keys. Confused but still attempting to make the best of things we follow directions and back track 3 miles to the completely unaffiliated resort. We pick up our keys and are escorted to our room by a very pleasant security guard. Now here's where everything falls completely apart. It's now 11pm we've driven 3+ hours and the rooms keys DON'T WORK!!!!! We again double back to the unaffiliated resort to ask for help. The woman at the front desk is extremely apologetic (even though she doesn't work for SD County Estates) and begins making calls to the after hours service for SD County Estates. She leaves a message and explains to her knowledge this has never happened before. After 30 minutes she makes a second call and is told they can't get ahold of the only person who can resolve the issue. Again I call the number on the reservation confirmation and explain the situation. I'm asked for my call back number in case the call is disconnected and I'm placed on hold. While on hold, the front desk gets a call and is advised they still aren't able to reach anyone who can help me. And then my call is disconnected......and no one calls me back!!! Now it's after midnight and my husband and I are both getting cranky. Thankfully the unaffiliated resort took pitty on us and gave us a room for the night. I'm interested to see how SD County Estates will make this right.... ... NEXT DAY UPDATE ... When we arrived the front desk staff was expecting us. We were immediately greeted by the manager who apologized profusely. Our previous night's stay at the unaffiliated resort was taken care of by the resort and we were told the resort would comp our breakfast each morning for the remainder of our stay. We were given a new set of keys and assured that they worked and that our room was freshly cleaned. Like I started out by saying, the property is beautiful. Our room was clean and comfortable and completely met our expectations. Our experience started off rocky, the night staff (or lack there of) is a problem but the hospitality of the day time staff it top notch. read more

Had a vacation scheduled during COVID here so was a little nervous but have totally felt reassured with all the precautions they have in place. These condos are very nice and super clean. The kitchen is fully stocked and has everything you would need. The surroundings are nice and clean, really enjoy sitting out on my balcony in the morning drinking my coffee. The pool area is limited to 15 people which is great and they have it sanitIzed after every 2 hour swim session. The view is amazing. Only downside is the distance to get to San Diego (about 45 minutes) and the closest town is about 15-20 minutes away. There are a few restaurants about 5 minutes away which is nice. We are from Phoenix and exchanged our timeshare week for a stay here. I read every review I could find after we did the exchange and was unsure what to expect as there were contradicting reviews. Some things I came across in reviews that I'd like to clear up. Now remember we are from a city. #1 a long ways from Ramona (grocery store) It was 15-20 minutes max to Ramona and its country driving so its stress free goes by so fast! We made a few trips there no problem. #2 The only way out is a dangerous mountain road umm, the person who had left review had never seen a dangerous mountain road for one thing. I'm from Idaho and there are some dangerous roads with barely room for two cars and a ravine on one side. The road that person was referring is on your map and is called wildcat canyon rd. Its a windy road i'll give it that and people drive fast on it but its ok. Its also not your only choice for getting in and out of the resort. We never took it again once we got there and figured that out. I think it was the 67 you can get in and out on but I'd call ahead and make sure I am correct. #3 Its a long way to San Diego. It took us about 45 minutes to an hour to get into San Diego. Once again most of that was pretty stress free driving. It takes me longer than that to take my daughter to the doctor at home in Phoenix traffic. We didn't feel this was unreasonable. #4 Its a desert We live in the desert, this is not a desert! lol Beautiful flowers, trees a grass. The mountains are very rocky but it is not a desert. I was wanting to escape the desert so i was worried about this. No worries. #5 When you put the 'do not disturb/privacy" sign on the door they still come in to replace the linens/towels you place out and empty trash cans This true. We had it up every day and they came in every day. On the plus side we left our camera equipment several days and it was never stolen. lol #6 Several comments stated things were in great disrepair. I think they have upgraded a lot in past couple years. Our room was great. They replaced our patio table and chairs while we were there which I didn't even think needed it. There is a playground across the street at the resort as well and we appreciated that very much having a 5 yo with us. There are some mild trails you can hike if you have kids or harder ones if your up for a challenge. One downside is the echoing hallway to your room. Unless your children are silent naturally that can be problematic. Our daughter has autism and many vocal stims and there was an elderly lady that came out a few times to yell at us and slam her door as we went to our room. lol I don't imagine carpet would work in their hallway however due to cleaning issues. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could need with the exception of a cookie sheet (which I brought with), and dry measuring cups which i thought was odd. But you can even get a crock pot checked out at the front desk. Wifi was free but painfully slow. We couldn't even use an app on our daughters ipad. They had an option to upgrade but we never took advantage of that. Everyone working there we encountered was not just friendly but very down to earth. We had a great time here. It can be escape from the city if you like or when you get stir crazy take a drive to san diego for the day. Or go to the little town of Poway. Beautiful little town and they have everything there, sprouts, target etc. They have a nice park if you have kids. We stayed two nights at this place. We had an upstairs room equipped with a kitchen and a patio. Large living room with dining table. Lots of windows, but we only had a view of the street. The room was very clean and the bathroom was in great condition. They had lots of tennis courts, but did not get to utilize it and I had brought my rackets along to the trip. We did use the hot tub and pool for one evening. I had booked a really great deal here and it was very helpful that they had a kitchen. It saved us a lot of money by cooking and prepping meals for two days. Its about a 30 min drive to the San Diego Safari Animal Park. That was part of the plan, which was why I chose to stay at this hotel rather than to book a hotel in San Diego. They lend out DVD and VHS movies which was also great. Free Wi-Fi too. read more

The rooms were nice, the grounds were well kept up, and with all the tennis courts it could be an amazing feel good teen movie (if tennis were cool.) It's quite literally in the middle of nowhere, however, so don't go here looking for night life. I did manage to come out a winner at Barona Casino right down the street, and there's also some amazing wine tasting about 30-40 minutes away. It's a great deal as long as you know what you're getting yourself into. In a word: chill Go looking to relax and do plan your trip ahead of time. It's a pretty and isolated area. read more

Not much activity, mostly retired people staying there. They do not provide full maid service, just take out the trask and replace towels. So, plan on doing the cleaning yourself during your vacation (and there is no once a week "deep cleaning" being done contrary to what they may tell you). Left an item in the room after ck out, and when I went back it was gone and no one could explain what happened to it. Maybe it had something to do with their exterior doors for the "condo building" that would not close and lock by itself so anyone could walk in. read more

Hi, We had a stay over this last weekend and I have to say it could have been better. I have stayed at SDCE many times in the past and have always loved the condo and the area. Every thing in the room was amazing and clean; it was everything you could want in a weekend stay. We stayed over night on Saturday and were looking to compete in a horse show the next day. On Sunday morning we walked out to our cars to find one of the vehicles had its driver side window broken and the car was rifled through. The car next to this one was not with our party but it had its driver side window broken as well. We then informed the front desk and were told to call the police which we did. The police stated there was nothing they could do and took our statements. Of course all of this was not the concern. I am a reasonable person and I know that things happen that are out side of the control of the company. But it is also my experience that great customer service occurs when the management attempts to help the guests as much as possible. SDCE made no attempt to help us as their guests. In fact they basically gave us the impression that its not their car not their problem. Our day of competition was ruined due to the broken window and SDCE could have cared less. I am writing to let people know that clearly there is some kind of crime ring going around in the area where travelers are being preyed on in SDCE parking lots . Note that two vehicles were broken into. And SDCE will do nothing to help travelers inconvenienced by the break ins. They ignored multiple calls from us in connection with this incident. That to me is an abomination in customer service. I travel to Ramona multiple times a year and I will look for other accommodations in the future. In my opinion the management should have tried help us more in our time of need. Instead they chose to ignore our frequent attempts to contact them. read more

The facilities have potential, but many of the staff are unfriendly, unhelpful, and honestly, I can't for the life of me figure out why they are working as the face of this place at the desks. Rather than make us feel welcome or like they hoped we had fun and used the amenities, they seemed stingy and unwelcoming. I'd recommend the management get some secret shopper type people in there and see how these staff members represent the company. Again, this letter is meant to serve as an eye-opener about the multiple inequalities in regard to the treatment of families at your resort. Especially, the treatment of my black/brown family. We were denied access to the pool, or told to wait multiple time to enter the pool. I understand that the reduction of people permitted in the pool area is due to the social distancing protection of the other families, which is something I do not have any issues with and was grateful for. However, multiple families were permitted to enter the pool with my family, after maximum capacity was already reached. This was not a one-time occurrence. You felt the need to protect other families from my family, but not the need to protect my family from other families. Next, an employee telling us to separate ourselves is completely intolerable. If you had 15 random people in the pool area, you would not tell them they need to separate themselves, or mandate that they stay in a designated areas. Families were not controlled where they could go in the pool area at all once they were granted access. For this employee to put that stipulation on only my family and to tell us to segregate ourselves from the other family is completely deplorable. Then, there was the issue with requiring an adult to be present with minors. My family would have never left our children unattended, nor planned on leaving the children alone. Yet, a discussion was overheard and an inappropriate interjection from a staff member came about, making the assumption we were going to leave our children unsupervised. Yet, your resort knowingly permitted another woman to leave her four, young children, some of which were clinging to the walls because they could not swim, to stay in the pool multiple times. Ultimately, we followed the procedures given to us and on 2/3 visits to the pool, we had extreme difficulty gaining access, if at all, to the pool. I am highly recommending that your staff extensively work on increasing your awareness of your own personal biases and proactively work to diminish them. It is my hope that your staff works to understand how your actions and statements have been perceived as harmful, which are often the consequences of such implicit bias. read more

The San Diego Country Estates timeshares located on Pappas Road are going to be just about 100-300 feet from a large cell tower now being installed at the Equestrian Center parking lot on Avenil Road (corner of Ramona Oaks, Avenil, and Pappas). For those who don't want high exposure from microwave radiation, this alert is provided. It is a shame the HOA decided to place it there, against objections by some in the community. All timeshare owners were allegedly notified by mail and apparently only one or two out of a thousand responded, several years ago when this was in the planning stages. I stayed there for a week with three girlfriends. We loved the fact that each of us had separate king size beds each with private bathroom. The condo was very nice the only complaint I would have is that the kitchen was very small the oven was old and took a long time to heat up. We never went out for a meal we had every meal there so we did quite a bit of cooking. The dishwasher in our unit we old so we had to be sure that it was straight so we could close the door easily to wash dishes. I think they need to supply more bowls and baking sheets. We booked far in advance and for the area I thought it was a bit pricey, but it was the week of Christmas so it's understandable. My boyfriend and I shared one bedroom. Check in was easy and the room was easy to find. We were on the second floor in a one bedroom unit. There was a terrible farty smell in the whole building and our room the first night but luckily it went away the next day. (My boyfriend convinced me someone must have cooked Brussels sprouts that day). The room had tons of space for just the two of us. We easily could have hosted a small dinner party there if we wanted too. The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils, appliances, and more. There was a welcome pouch with coffee and two packs of oatmeal which was much appreciated, along with salt and pepper shakers and packets of sugar. We headed to the store the next day to stock up on all other supplies. There was a complimentary wood log for us to use in the fire, but we never got around to it and just used the central heat instead. King size bed was comfy and the shower was hot. TVs could definitely use an upgrade (I actually had to smack the TV Fonzie-style to get it to go back to normal after all the colors turned blue and green!). Wi-fi in the rooms worked great as well. There were board games, puzzles, and movies to check out, crafts, water aerobics, and tennis but we had plans with local family so never got around to any of that. I did check out the "free pastries" one morning to find a few sad doughnuts, but it was a nice thought. Great views and very quiet. Definitely glad we booked here! read more

It had been 2 weeks from my stay when I realize it was no where to be found and my friend I stayed there with confirmed we left it in the closet. I have been here before years ago. I brought the family for a week stay (I traded out some time share days) and had a very relaxing time. Gym good, pool and spa good, games and lots of free check out DVD's, and well supplied condos. New flat screens and GREAT SERVICE I only heard YES WE CAN DO THAT with a smile. I had a great time even with teenagers! They wanted more to do since we were an hour way from the beach. (recommend Ocean Beach). I was traveling to San Diego and my family recommended for me to stay here. My first day in San Diego (before checking in) was completely ruined because I called in around noon and asked if was possible for an early check in... I had to be at an event within 2 hours and I needed to get ready. The woman on the phone was the rudest woman I had ever spoken to. She said I couldn't because there were no rooms ready and I asked again if there was any possible way I could just get something because I needed to get ready to go to my event. She was SO RUDE and said "no I don't need to repeat myself" and then she chuckled and said "if u want to cancel go ahead because there's no refunds so It doesn't hurt us." I asked to speak to a manager, and she hung up on me. I called back later to speak to the manager and the manager was super kind on the phone and apologized. Other than this incident the stay was absolutely amazing, the rooms were very big, and check out was easy as well. 2 stars due to the lack of professionalism which is sad because I would of loved to give 5 stars. If management reads this you need to understand that most people who are coming in are traveling from pretty far and sometimes they have things to attend, most hotels and over night places do accommodate and offer early check-in. I also emailed the property owners and I never received feedback. read more

We did a exchange with Global Vacations. When we walked into the resort we thought of 1 bedroom condo. Very nice size. At first when we did all our traveling we went out the canyon road which was 13 miles and very curved. Half way through the week we found if you went into town much better roads n that the town was like 15 minutes away if that. The people we checked in with was really nice. We went to the Monday get together to find out we were the only people there. They gave us a print out n map of the area. Very informative. My only down fall of the place was they come into your room everyday even if you put out the Do Not Disturb sign. I thought it was great that they wanted to do the service but I like the midweek towel exchange. One reason I do time sharing is that I don't have to worry about them coming into the place with my stuff around. I felt you had to have things in a certain place. They did a towel exchange, empty the garbage that's it. If they wiped down the bathroom n put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher that would of been nice. People are very nice read more
