I'm 90% sure that some of the lower-scoring reviews are from entitled individuals who apparently have a low opinion of 'essential' workers. I closed all my accounts here over 3 years ago. I had one retirement investment that I was waiting for it to mature and then close. Over the course of 3 years, I lost the information for the account. I received a letter in the mail stating if I do not claim my funds by October the state will take them from me. I go in to claim my funds and the account was deactivated but auto renewed magically somehow. I know none of it makes sense. Heres the part that does. I will be charged an early withdrawal fee because it auto renewed but if I don't withdrawal the state will take the money from me. Total nonsense. I pay the fee get my check and deposit it. I think I'm done. Nope, about an hour later I get a call saying they need another signature from me. If I don't come sign, they will withhold my funds. Worst experience ever. read more

I am currently a new member at SDCCU (San Diego County Credit Union). This credit union was recommended by my sister. On my first day that I signed up I walked through the front entrance and Cindy was there at the front desk to greet me. Cindy was very professional and friendly towards me when I had spoken to her previously. I had set up an appointment with Chris Garcia my personal banker at 10 a.m. sometime 3 weeks ago. Chris asked me to fill out the required paperwork I needed to apply for to become their member at this San Diego County Credit Union Branch in Oceanside, CA. After I filled out this paperwork, then Chris told me he needs to run a credit check on me. Chris needed to ask for my permission first before he would be authorized to run this credit history check on myself. I told Chris go ahead because I know that I have a really exceptional credit score. Chris went ahead and ran this credit history check on me and it only took him 10 minutes to complete this process. My credit score is 860. Chris said the standard credit score is from 645 to 735. Then Chris told me that my credit score is excellent. I said I know it is, LOL. I signed up for a personal every day checking account with online banking that include electronic statements. Chris also printed off some temporary personal checks for me for my convenience. Then Chris said if I want to order a book of 80 checks I will have to order these personal checks from their www.sdccu.com website or I can come in person and ask one of their bank tellers and someone can order my personal checks for me. I said okay thank you. To open up a personal every day checking account, someone has to deposit $25.00. A personal savings account is also $25.00. I opened up both a checking account and a savings account at this SDCCU Branch. Chris Garcia was very professional, knowledgeable, and he gave me excellent customer service during my meeting with him. I asked Chris how long has he been working for the San Diego County Credit Union? Chris said 6 years now. And this location at the SDCCU has been in business for 6 years also. I recommend signing up to become a member at this location. I had a good experience with Cindy and Chris. Even their bank tellers are also friendly. I believe this is a excellent financial institution with great customer service. read more

I have been with SDCCU for 20 years and over the last year in a half I have had the worst experience. I heard a rumor they were bought out and it is showing over the last year! I am definitely getting out. They are impossible to contact and its pretty sketchy when you have all of your money somewhere for them not to answer!! I use bill payers plus for my bills on a monthly basis. My car payment was remitted twice through the website. I understand it may have been user error, however, I have attempted to call SDCCU 4 times now and have been unsuccessful in reaching anyone. I opted for a callback on their automated system after waiting on hold for 25 minutes!!!! I did not recieve a call back for 3.5 hours!!! When I missed the call, I called back again and waited on the line for 50 minutes and still was not assisted. I recently opened up an IRA account to rollover my 401k after my employer shut down the account. The rep I spoke with did not have me fulfill one of the pages and I was not notified to come sign the paperwork so the check could be received. I finally went in and they made me aware of the missing document. I did not receive a phone call or notice the check had arrived or that they were missing paperwork. It took 3 weeks for SDCCU to deposit the check and place the funds into my account. I went into the branch and was discussing potentially opening a CD to place the funds into and the manager offered to have a financial adviser reach out to me to discuss other possibilities with higher payouts. I agreed to hold off on the CD. This morning I logged into my account to discover the funds were transferred to CD and I had not received the promised call from any financial adviser. This location closes at 4 apparently to keep people safe from covid what a joke closing early does nothing for public health. Most people don't get off before 5 and to use covid as an excuse to close early is just laziness. Also their outdoor atm almost never works. Worst SDCCU location I've ever been. read more

Service at the local branch is generally pretty good. My complaint is about online banking. I frequently am unable to connect and get the "try again later" message. At this time the system has been down for at least two days and when I called they suggested using a different search engine. This worked sometimes but the experience is frustrating. They need to upgrade their online banking technology. read more

I haven't been with SDCCU for a long time but I'm pretty happy so far because they are very security minded. For me that is a very big plus in my book I know nothing is 100% percent but they are pretty close. I can use my atm card from sdccu at some other credit unions for free which is nice. I have an account here I am transferring because I waste so much time trying to get to talk to someone. The only way to talk to a real person is to drive to the branch. I love SDCCU but this branch is absolute garbage. Came in because there was fraud on my account and I needed a new card printed. I wait in line, the teller Eman helps me get the order in and then the place gets packed suddenly. The lady Jennifer C. Who prints the cards proceeds to help an older man who came in over 10 minutes after me get his new debit card right away. Now the place is full and I'm still waiting for my card. Eman never says anything to her then runs out on his lunch while 13 people are in line. WORST customer service ever. They even proceeded to help another man while I continued to wait. So after walking into an empty bank for a debit card that should have took 3 minutes here I am just leaving because it took over half an hour. I stop by here monthly to deposit money into my aunt's checking account. Today, there was a longer line than usual (probably because of the Labor Day weekend) and i was running late to work so I thought it might be easier to just run the errands here (*my boss asked me to bring change on my way to work) After deposit has been made to my aunt's account, I asked the teller if I could get change and gave him what I needed (it was $180 in total), then he said he's not sure if he can do THAT MUCH for non-bank members, meaning he can do lesser amounts?!, that he'll ask his manager if that's okay or how much he can do. The manager, a tall blonde lady, that was sitting down right behind said that it's not possible to give out any change for non-members. That was annoying. So I had to walk across the street to chase(* I don't have bank acct with them either) to get change! All they ask for is an I.D. Super annoying. read more

I want to write an update to this review due to something that happened just the other day. I recently, within the past 2 weeks, lost my job. As a result of this, several ACH transactions for bill payments went through to my SDCCU account, overdrafting it by quite a bit. Apparently, although I did not know, my wife's SDCCU account was a joint account that had my name on it. Not sure how this happened, considering she opened the account herself... but apparently that's the case. So SDCCU, being the shining gem of integrity they are, decided they were going to balance out the negative on my own account with my wife's money. Money we were going to use to pay bills while I was waiting on my unemployment to start. I called SDCCU and they are completely unwilling to help. You'd think that an organization that prides themselves on their customer service would be willing to assist someone in a position such as mine, but no. They will not return the money to my wife, putting us about $400 in the hole and leaving us unable to pay several bills. I implore you- do not open an account with SDCCU if you are planning on doing so. As stated in my previous review, I've been a customer here for a very long time, and I'm absolutely shocked at how I'm being treated at this time. Something changed, SDCCU. I don't know what it was, but until you guys fix it, my wife and I are taking our banking needs elsewhere. read more

This bank has really gone down hill recently. I applied to refinance my house at 2.75% and when I received the loan documents, the interest rate was 4.00%. No explanation received so tried to call and e-mail several times. No one ever returns calls. Had to go to a branch manager to get a phone call back from loan department. When the loan processor called me, he said that it was a management decision and that no appeal was possible. Really lame read more

I've had an account with them for over a decade. They've always turned me down for (auto) loans even back when I had good credit and a co-signer. Couldn't even get a refinancing deal. Kept saying I didn't make enough and had insufficient income. "Debt to income ratio is too high." Kind of makes it pointless then to have good credit if they're always going to base things on your pay. I also don't care for the tellers at this location. One of them still needed to see my ID and debit card and run both just to do a currency exchange. All I wanted was two rolls of quarters for a $20 bill so I could do laundry. Another refused to change my account number when it was levied so I could get more time to pay online bills. Now, just recently they wouldn't cash a check from my mother, who also has an account there, even though it was one of their own checks and therefore considered an honest one. Said there was nothing they could do because my account was charged off due to a bankruptcy I went through. No notification or anything. That was the last straw. This bank, as in the company sdccu, never has enough employees working. There is always a long ass line outside, usually 10-20 people deep, and I mean every location has this problem, but especially this branch here. I have been standing in line for 15 minutes in a line with 10 people outside the bank, and its moved up by 2 people. So now we're down to 8. You need to hve more bankers available to handle this daily, recurring issue. People are walking out of the line frustrated. I wish I didn't have to use their physical locations, but their app is GARBAGE. A hot pile of garbage. You can't do more than the bare basics with the app, and thats if you don't get a random issue logging in, which happens 40% or so of the time and forces you to go to safari on your phone and go to the website. Stay away from sdccu, do yourself a favor. I been with them for years and I regret it, Im about to switch banks. There is a chase bank immediately next door and it never has a long ass line. Whoever manages the efficiency of this needs to be fired. And so do whatever employees are moving with the pace of a slug in there. Ever heard of a little urgency? I went in today to do a wire transfer to my escrow account and I knew I should have stayed until it was signed off! I have done it before at other banks and branches and it takes about an hour or less after I put it through! I told the teller it was time sensitive as I close today and it still hasn't posted and this is hours later! Wow, just trying to get through the 800 number is bad enough. Than when you actually get through to human being, the questions they ask are pretty basic. I know the answers because it's about me and I still get accused of being wrong, so they say they can know longer help and I must go into a branch. The whole point of the phone call was to get info about what I may need before going into the branch, ask me 10 more questions, but don't stop the conversation and block the account. No one wants to work a little harder anymore, so disappointing. Not happy with customer service at all right now!! read more

If you're looking for a good credit union, SDCCU is worth considering. We went there first to do a re-fi of our mortgage, then did a car loan, opened and IRA, and did a mortgage rate reduction. I pay bills from my accounts, use their on-line services quite often, and even go into the branch from time to time. Every encounter, virtual or real, has been pleasant. I'm considering moving all my accounts here. SDCCU has employees who really care. If it's possible to love a financial institution, I love SDCCU! read more

I was set up with a gentleman named Ryan. He was rather impolite and made me feel rushed. I didn't end up getting what i wanted out of our meeting and he quickly rushed me out. Well, here I am at the Oceanside branch standing in line behind 5 people while ONE teller is open. This happens all the time here! I am going through the steps to move my funds and business to U S Bank down the street. The Vista branch has plenty of tellers, but it's too far away. They keep bragging about being voted Best Credit Union in San Diego. That's just because SDCCU is so large that no other CU has a larger voting base for those stupid polls. I've been with this CU for many years, but it's only gotten worse. Okay. I've had time to do this review and there are still 2 customers in front of me. Goodbye SDCCU! read more

If I could give this credit union a zero star score I would. They constantly mix payments to make my bank negative, so I get overdraft fees for 1 dollar charges. I requested a replacement card TWO weeks ago and I am just now finding out that I can't get one until my account is positive again. Not one call, email anything to give me a heads up, now I am screwed on my payments. This is the worst bank I have EVER dealt with, just get a chase account or if your lucky navy federal because this place will just take your money and does not give one care about the customer. read more

They returned a property tax payment of mine for nsf when I had over $6000 in their bank - no one would fix it - they just said the accounts weren't connected - gee really when they all show in my name in one place as connected. They are always so friendly here. They always have a smile and ready to serve even when it's a bit crazy (on pay day especially). We have several different accounts all with different situations. The main corporate processes are rather clunky (especially for home loans) but the folks at the branch make up for it in customer service and helpfulness. read more
