It's been almost a year since we purchased Max the cat from SD Feed. He was approximately 4 months old and although there were many adorable playful kittens we chose him because he was wild in a cute way. We paid for Max, got the little bit of history on his rescue ordeal, got some free cans and dry food of what he had been eating and made the appt to have him fixed. The surgery went off without a hitch. When we went to pick him up Max was isolated in the front window cage area. He had chewed thru the cardboard cat carrying box. The owner kindly gave us another one to take him home. One day later Max had a noticeable eye infection. We called the owner and she told us to swing by and she would provide medication. She did it free of charge. Our experience with SD Feed has been nothing but positive. read more

I happen to be in the area and thought I would come in and take a look around. I didn't have the best experience/feel of the place and I want to share with you why. Before I entered the place I noticed some beautiful birds at the window, in-front of store, pretty good sized cages/spaces they were in so you could see them flying around and perched and I also noticed on the opposite side there were cats. So I was curious enough to go inside. I thought it was a pretty roomy place but as soon as I entered, from sidewalk, clutter. I couldn't view the birds very well from the inside of the store, such a disappointment since that's what attracted me to go in the first place but at-least I enjoyed listening to them. All the product everywhere especially crammed on the left side of the store...Food, cages, items hanging way to low from the ceiling, etc. I mean I felt immediately clutter phobic like I was getting hit left and right with product LOL, my eyes needed some shades...no I'm just kidding. I'm sure with a little bit of correct placement and re-arrangement of product to space things out would help a great deal and make it seem more roomy to comfortably walk around product and look at it =). I also felt alone in the place...H-E-L-L-O anybody here, there was no one around to greet me as I walked the front area of the store and would probably not have ventured to the back area if it were not for my curiosity. The back of the store was open until you tried to venture over to the bunnies and animals they carry and some of the products they had in the isles. Even though there were a few people working in that section of the store no one ever greeted me, walked up to me to ask if I needed any help or anything. Are these types of stores supposed to be self help places? On a positive note they did seem to have a variety of products and well stocked of it and most of the birds seemed happy and they had some adorable puppies for adoption! *update so I visited again, seems like it was less cluttered with items in the isles which was nice and I finally got to speak to someone who worked there, well I caught her while she was quickly walking by. read more

These folks have everything I need for my chickens -- mash, scratch, diatomaceous earth, topical antibiotics, antiseptic, feeders, waterers, etc. They even sell chickens. I like the staff. We've been doing business here since we moved to San Dimas. It's nice to have a feed & grain nearby so we can buy things Petsmart would never dream of selling. read more

A couple weeks ago my boyfriend and I were passing by and we saw the little kittens in the window, one in particular stood out and we knew we had to adopt him but the store was already closed when we stopped by so we left a note on the door asking if they could hold him for us and they were so kind enough to hold him for us, we are picking him up today. They're the only store to carry decent pet food for miles. They carry all the standard brands of organic pet foods with average pricing. I like how they are always in stock with everything, especially large bags of food (30+ lb). They also have all kinds of accessories, treats, toys, and treatments for pets. The staff is knowledgeable, but inconsistent in temperament. Some of them have a chip on their shoulder, and some are nice. One very nice lady helped me find a very good mange treatment for my dog, which I could not find anywhere else. They also offer very cheap veterinary services, which I have not tried. The employees are attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Their prices are competitive and the business has a country store atmosphere with a rustic interior décor. The business is a good fit for the downtown San Dimas area, with it's Western history. read more

Very disappointed in his place right now. We bought a kitten from here in August. We were told she was spayed and given a paper stating that she was. Now all these months later she is pregnant. She is expecting five kittens and we have to find homes for them. Now I wasn't upset with the pet store until we went in to talk to them about it and they met us with rudeness. I figured that they would be shocked and apologetic. I figured that this was all some big accident that never happens. However, that was not the case. We were told we needed to have the paper she gave us showing that our cat was spayed. We had our receipt that showed we paid for the kitten there and proof of pregnancy but she tried to argue that wasn't enough. We told her that we wanted our money back, so that after she has the kittens we can pay for her to get spayed properly. She told us that she would spay her for us. Which of course we said no because that was already a complete failure. Then we finally came to an agreement and we got our money back. We asked if they would take some of the kittens to sell. She told us that she would only take the kittens if she could find some space. She said they were filled up and probably couldn't take them. What kind of business is run this way? How can you advertise kittens to be spayed and then act like it's the owners fault when something happens? So rude. read more

They keep baby bunnies crowded in a tiny wire cages to sell, with only a fan blowing on them. Stop this type of animal abuse. Adopt from local rescues - NEVER buy any animal under these conditions. These bunnies need to be rescued. Do NOT shop where there is animal abuse like this. read more

I love this grain store! A few months ago I didn't even know what a grain store was but when I started searching for truly premium dog food, my search led me here. This is a small mom n' pop store but they carry a decent variety of premium brands for dogs, cats, and horses. Some of the labels they carry are Canidae, Solid Gold, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Natural Balance and probably a couple of others that I can't remember. They also have an excellent selection of rawhides, pig ears, snouts, all that nasty stuff that dogs love. Excellent prices and extremely friendly staff make for an overall great little shop. They have everything you could want, and are much cheaper than Petco. They seem to specialize in bird and horse supplies, but carry hard-to-find quality dog and cat food. The dog chews are much cheaper. I like the atmodphere too. Family owned, active in animal rescue, and nice people. Not sure what one of the posters had a problem with, but it perhaps would be fairer to state what the problems were rather than post with no information. read more

This feed store has a pretty good supply. The only negative I have is that sometimes getting a delivery can be a little difficult and they dont communicate very well. But the food is good and most of the employees are great. read more

WHAT A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE TODAY with a clerk. Rudest person I have met in a very long time!!!!! Purchased some food for my little baby Cocker and while I was purchasing items, my baby started to walk away with this huge bison bone in her mouth...(it was actually comical). Note: this bone was unwrapped and sitting right in front of my pup. I was told I had to purchase the bone because she licked it! I wonder how many other dogs licked this bone??????? Anyway.... I think any dog would do the same (unwrapped and at eye level or basically about 2 inches from the floor). The lady said she could not sell it now and I that I need to have better control of my dog!!! I told the "B" no problem, I'll buy it! Then she starting saying no you can just have it and she kept going on and on and on. I asked to please ring me up so that I could get out of there. I couldn't get out of that place fast enough!!!! This person needs a different JOB!!!! Too bad, I won't be going back because I live in San Dimas and love supporting the beautiful city!! I have been here three times and before the third time I would have rated then a three ,nothing special but cheap bird seed. They are never very friendly nor overly helpful but decent. The third time I came in was last weekend. I went back to visit the puppies and the baby chicks. When asking about the puppies I was told they were rescue dogs. I asked from where and the guy just walked away. They were sweet dogs but I felt so sad for them out in the heat. I have no clue why they were there. I also asked if I could hold a baby chick. We have been thinking about getting some chicks and were there looking for chicken coops but I personally want a chick that I at least feel some kind of connection to. The lady told me no very rudely but told me I can buy one. I told her how do i know which one I want if I can't hold them. She sighed and walked away. I just thought it was so rude. Her attitude ensured I will not get any of my chicks from them. Also we will get a chicken coop elsewhere! Our 500 dollars is better spent in a place that cares about the animals and their customers read more

I adopted a Jack Russell terrier. I paid $200 for her. The cost was suppose to include spay & vaccines. San Dimas Grain said they would have the paperwork ready a couple of days later. I took her to my vet 2 days after I got her and she was not spayed and she had worms. I never received any paperwork because they didn't have any. The owner of San Dimas Grain was the most rudest obnoxious women I had encountered in a very long time, very argumentive and uncooperative. Finally after a couple of weeks I got a 3x5 scribbled up piece paper with her shot records on it, looking very suspicious I just went back to my vet and got all new shots. Because the owner did not want me to turn her in she ended up giving me the money to get my sweet girl spay at my own vet. I purchased my dog food there for years and now I go to PetSmart. Be careful adopting an animal there and make sure you get the paperwork handed to you the day you adopt. read more

I've been a customer at this store for 20 years, but I now shop at Pomona Feed & Fuel on Mission Ave. I've changed because San Dimas Feed is just to expensive. I have laying chickens and the 50 lb bag of lay mash is $5.00 cheaper in Pomona, that's a very big savings. I also needed to purchase 2 more chicks, their 3-4 week old chicks were $15.99 each! I left there & went to Pomona Feed & their 3-4 week old chicks were only $3.50 each! All other chicken supplies were much cheaper as well. I also agree they're not too friendly. read more

My boyfriend and I were at the store a couple days ago, we were looking at the cute tiny puppies. (They had 2 puppies) when we came back around to look they had one in the same cage now. My boyfriend realized one went behind the dog house that went in the cage with them! The puppies are small but I don't think it could get out. So I went to tell the lady that worked at the store she said that happens all the time he can get out. So we went on to see them again he was laying behind the house, not moving. Honestly he looked sick or dead. I wanted to cry. From the other reviews they leave the dogs are outside all night too. If that's true I wouldn't doubt that the dog was sick. read more

Great selection for horse products. Fairly priced and local. The bedding is also reasonably priced and the guys are always willing to help. The dog and cat food is top of the line which reflects the higher price people below we're complaining about. Drove quit a long distance to buy some chicks based on their website stating they had chicks in only to find they weren't getting any in for another week or two. I don't generally post reviews on anything unless it really feels necessary. I've been going to this place for about three years now and the very first time my family and I were there I felt like the staff was rude to my kids and to myself. Because they are the only game in town for chicken food I continue to patronize the store because I didn't feel like driving all the way to Chino when I have a place down the street that I can purchase from. Well, I'll be driving to Chino going forward. I called them at 5:28 to let them know that I was just about to pull in the parking lot and told him that I desperately needed a bag of chicken food and asked if they could please wait just an extra moment. The lady told me flat out if I make it before 530 then I can buy chicken food but if not then I'm out of luck. I asked if perhaps she could just hang tight for 60 seconds and she reaffirmed that if I was there before 530 I can make a purchase. I showed up at 5:29 to watch the sliding door closing and then when I knocked no one responded. Someone needs to teach these people a lesson in customer service and manners. I will drive my ass to Chino and buy in bulk Instead of being mistreated by assholes. read more

I never thought that going into San Dimas Grain to buy some fly repellent for my dogs could turn into something so dramatic, upsetting, and unnecessary. I was at the counter to buy my products and a man, that I did not know, leaned next to me at the counter so close that I could feel his breath on my left arm. I kept looking over at him thinking why is he standing so close to me. When it was time for me to put in my pin number he was still right there and would have been able to see my private information. At this point I asked him if he could please back up and give me some space and he called me a "fucking bitch" I turned back toward the counter and there was a female employee and the male employee who was ringing me up. Neither one of them said a word. I then said to the employees that he is so close to me that people would think we were married. At this point the man said sacastically "who the fuck would want to be married to you!" I turned back to the employees behind the counter, clearly speechless, and they both avoided eye contact. The man then stormed out of the building in the direction of where my car was parked. Luckily another male customer was kind enough to walk me to my car and told me that he was so sorry that that had happened. Once I was in my car I sat there for awhile too shakened up to drive. I called my husband and the first thing he asked was, "what did the employees do to help you?" Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Later I called San Dimas Grain and talked to the manager Yolonda. She was unaware that this had happened. She apologized. She took my name and number and said she would have the "owner" call me. I actually felt better until 20 minutes later when the owner did call. HERE'S THE KICKER. Remember when I said there were TWO people behind the counter? The woman behind the counter was THE OWNER! She witnessed the whole thing. When I asked her why she didn't do or say anything she told me that she thought that I knew the man who called me " a fucking bitch" and that it wasn't until later that she realized that I didn't know him. She then told me that getting involved would have made the problem worse. She's right. By calling me back it meant she was getting involved and it did make the problem worse. BECAUSE THIS IS A PERSON WHO DID NOT CARE THAT ONE OF HER CUSTOMERS WAS VERBALLY ATTACKED RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER! At this point in the phone call I did get angry and when my voice became raised she accused me of starting a problem just like the man in her store. She was a coward in her store, but oh so tough with me on the phone. At that point I hung up on her. To think that this morning I was on my way to Pet Smart and then thought no. I will go over to San Dimas Grain. A place that I loved going to when I was a kid because it looked like a place where real cowboys worked. This store is fine as to the basic things a feed store should do. However I have not always been impressed with the quality of the timothy and alfalfa hay, it varies. However that is not so bad but what put me off is that I asked for a for a rabbit food from a brand they carry. They don't normally carry it but they said they would order it for me, might take a week or two. No problem. They took my name and number and said they would call me when its in. 3 weeks later I called them for an update cause I was now out of food. They said oh, they ordered it but were sent the wrong thing. They had received guinea pig food instead. Okay kinda annoyed that I hadn't been given that update but they said they would try again and give me a call. It's been a couple of months now and I haven't heard a thing. So I know I like the Yorba Linda Feed Store which is a little far but they are friendly and helpful there, nice store, good hay, etc. I am thinking about trying the one in Pomona. read more

If your looking for compassionate and humane people who provide excellent customer service san dimas grain is definitely NOT the place to go. I had a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE to say the least! I had bought a rescue kitten there a few months back, there was nothing wrong with it. well that was until I went back to get it neutered there. I had dropped off the kitten the night before, they had put it in a cage by itself in the back. When I returned the following day I found my cat in the display window mixed in with 10 other rescue kittens. The owner had mistakenly placed it there. Shortly after my kitten became gravely ill. He was vomiting, had diarrhea, wouldn't eat or drink anything, goopy eyes, sneezing ect... I had to immediately take him to a vet and when I called to complain the owner was extremely rude. She refused to take any accountability for her actions, she even mocked me and hung up on me. Is that what you call quality customer service? I was appalled and couldn't believe the things she was saying. It only further added insult to injury. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. They are a poor excuse for a pet shop and if your looking to buy an animal I would suggest looking elsewhere, its obvious that their animals are unhealthy and they are not taking proper care of them. read more
