She's curt, impatient and has no respect for her customers. I'm not giving her my money anymore. Go to pomona feed. I come here for my dog food since it is a specialty food and it's local. Selection is good, pricing is fair. The only reason I am giving 3 vs 5 stars is the management. They do not greet you when you walk into the door, nor while you're shopping. They get after their employees in front of customers, which is very unprofessional and I actually felt bad and embarrassed for them. SCARY place to get feed for your birds. I am going to assume they are under new ownership. I know the owners were big bird people and very passionate about her birds. Went in to buy some food for my Pionus (bird) chose a 5 LB bag that they mix there and sell in prepackaged bulk. When I got it home and put in an airtight container I keep the food in, I found BUGS in the food. I immediately took it back for a refund. They were accommodating on the refund, it almost sounded like they weren't even surprised about my finding. No apology, no shock, they barely even looked at the food I returned while I was there. This store is horrendous in their approach treating their animals and customers w respect. We paid $250 for a puppy we wanted and they don't let us pick up until 2 days later then they "killed" the dog, made no apology&acted like they did nothing wrong. They refused to give the vet info, nor allowed any calls to inquire what happened to the dog. They offered a refund and hung up. ABSOLUTELY MALICIOUS. Prior the pick up day, Deana the owner & Paige the clerk both acted like we are criminals for how we choose to raise our animals, esp the new puppy. We have an enclosed patio where we keep our animals in safety. It's a courtyard setting and our flocks are deeply loved and like our babies. They were mean&accusative with a combative demeanor knowing absolutely nothing and were completely unresponsive to the questions I asked about their products. When you see people who has issues, you see that they have issues. They reacted badly perhaps due to horror stories they heard but there's no need to throw it at anyone they meet. I don't need to be talked down to by anyone for any measure. Zero manners they presented&were very rude. I suspect the puppy did not die like the owner said on the pick up day. There were many puppies in the lot still&how come the one we adopted and paid for suddenly died overnight? I suspect this is all a lie and a way to keep the puppy perhaps. I do not know. But it is very possible. Here's the thing..... - We requested to pay the vet for any needed surgery and waive the rights against the owner, the clerk said "No You are allowed that info. " - We requested to call the owner and tell her our wish, the clerk Yolanda again said "No you're NOT allowed that info." - I said we can't just sit here and watch it "die" like you said that it 99% chance wouldn't make it. She said "call back Monday, now it's Friday night and we're closing. You can talk to owner then." - I said "NO. We're in love w the puppy we bought and drove up to see her every day back to back since adoption 3 days ago, we can't just watch it "die" and do nothing and/or wait until MONDAY for when it's convenient for you. Please be responsible!" I completely panicked and demanded them taking the responsibility for "killing the dog" and begged her to please give me immediately the vet info so I could take actions right away to savage the situation and understand why the lil girl is choking and /or unconscious. I can't wait until MONDAY to then see what's happening! THIS IS WRONG, NEGLIGENT AND ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC PRACTICE. After my final plea in great despair, Yolanda the clerk hung up the phone, and I called back again several times. They just ignored the calls. I sent someone there to talk to Yolanda to beg for info for our puppy, still to no avail. This is CRUEL. EXTREMELY CRUEL HOW THEY HANDLED THIS. #1. If the dog did "die" like they said, "calling back Monday" or "switching for another dog" is UNACCEPTABLE. #2. If the dog did NOT "die" from lying, then this LIE IS CRUEL. I much rather they said " hey we don't like you, we decide to keep the dog. here's your money." Then fine, I'll walk, I don't need to panicked around trying to call and save the dog and trying to see what vet bills could be and offer to pay it and not care one bit about what "liability" they're complaining about. Yolanda said the fee is too much to fix a dying puppy, they rather just get rid of it due to liability issues, I'm not allowed to participate in the decisioning process. I told her this is NOT the time for politics, my dog is DYING, I NEED INFO NOW AND TAKE ACTIONS NOW. My anxious plea hit both of her negligence and silence. I was a chicken running around without a head. How can they be so cruel? How can they lie if they did? How can the dog die when NO OTHER DOGS DID on the same lot? I don't know the truth, I just know I was screwed around heartlessly. I no longer care what their reasons are, I just know that what they did is wrong and karma will find them. I hope when their dog or cat or whatever they care for are in danger and when they're told "call back Monday", they'll remember what they've done to me and/or others. "Not my problem" is WRONG. If you want to rescue dogs&want to be picky about owners, YOU CAN. Do it BEFORE ADOPTION, not AFTER ADOPTION. Do your interviews&legwork and whatever, so be it. If I could I would give this business a big fat 0! The animals they sell there are very sick, namely the cats. I went to look at the kittens, and a lot of them were lethargic and listless. One of the kittens couldn't even see out of its eyes due to the green discharge it had in both eyes. Many of them were sneezing and had other symptoms of feline leukemia, which if one has it they will probably all get it. They should be ashamed of their treatment of animals. They shouldn't be allowed to sell these animals at all. Many of the cats at shelters are treated better than this and many of them are picked up by Petco and PetSmart and are deemed well and put up for adoption. After 2 years of trying to buy what they stock that they are always out of Evangers canned Sweet Potato and Duck dog food I give up. 6 times they have run out of stock but that's not the worst it's the stories and multiple delays each time getting product in. There is not one employee of several I haven't talked to that could get the product ordered on the first request. This last time was 2 weeks ago I bought the last case and was told it was on order. After the second time they stocked out and told me they left a note for the owner to order and it didn't get placed I started giving my self more time so my dog wouldn't run out. After several times I even ordered on line from someone else and told them I would rather support them and San Dimas but could not if they couldn't keep stock. Last Sunday I went back in and was told the order arrived but my item wasn't delivered. The employees told me the rep would be coming in Monday and they would call me when it arrived. No one called. I called them yesterday, Thurs May 24th to see if the order came in and was told by the employee she was off the previous day and would check and call me back. She didn't call me back. Since my dog was out of food I ordered online yesterday, Thurs May 24th and 2 cases arrived today. Cheaper and free shipping from Wag.com If nothing else if they stocked what they carried they would make more profit. This review comes with a heavy heart because I bought my dog that I love from this establishment and I usually get all my dogs needs from them since I work so close to this location. I visited the store on a Saturday to take a look at the puppies, I was going to purchase another pup for my Mother and I opened the gate slightly to pet the one I was looking to purchase and from across the store this lady starts shouting at me saying close the gate as I look around wondering who she was talking to I realized it was me and proceeded to close the gate. SHE SAYS WHAT YOU CANT READ!! I was shocked and appalled by this she followed it by saying since you can't read I will tell you the sign says don't open the gate, I have included a picture of the sign that doesn't say that. It just says "don't go inside" I informed her of that and said you don't need to be so rude with all of her yelling and rude attitude I also included a picture of the employee who was so rude. Again I frequently stop by this establishment and have always been able to open the gate and touch the puppies Please update your sign, I will not be getting anything from this location again. Deana (owner) has a heart of gold and has rescued hundreds of unwanted cats/kittens, dogs and puppies over the years. These are rescues that she gets spayed and neutered and re-homes. She is not in the business of "selling" dogs and cats. She re-homes them for a minimal fee that will never even recoup what she spends overall on these animals. I appreciate what she does as most people won't even bother to help unwanted pets. On another note... I love the feed store. read more

RUN AS AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!! So I usually love to support local shops instead of large chain companies, especially when they're in the same small town as me. I've been in this store before (during winter) and thought what a nice small feed store, it reminded of my local one back home. I went in the store today, Labor Day 2017, and boy how my views changed. I don't even think they should be open. When I first walked in I noticed how hot it was and thought it was very hot to have baby kittens in a huge front glass window (in the sun) they were all panting and clearly miserable. I choose to ignore it. I continued my shopping. I was looking for a specific brand of dog food, which it turns out they no longer carried. Fine. Then the most horrible thing happened. I walked in the back and saw several puppies in a pin for-sale. In the sun, it was about 101 out. They were all panting heavily and laying on their sides. No shade. I went to find someone who worked there. I told him what I saw and he clearly stated to me they were fine they had just gotten their shots and must of been having an over reaction. I asked him if they'd stay in the sun and he said yes and walked away. I was blown away. I love animals and think that the treatment I saw was very inhuman. They clearly didn't care about their animals they're selling, as every single animal I saw was severely over heating. I picked up a box of 3 Dog Bakery "Oreos" (they look like oreos, but don't taste like them... to me anyway), some stuffed bones and a mixed bag of treats. Walked in there one day and asked Shawna where I could purchase hay. She wouldn't even look up at me she just answered with the most bothered attitude "yeah" and didn't say anything else... I asked her if she could point out to me where I could get it and her response was the "barn". I asked her where that was(because I'm not from this area) and again with major attitude said across the street! That was my first and last experience, I will never give them a penny of my money. Rude staff. I went in this morning with my aunt to get some dog food and they had some bunnies out and I went to hold one and some rude lady in there told me not to touch the bunnies. Im glad I'm not a local here needing to buy pet feed there because I personally would be walked out and gave my business to somebody else. I am very particular who takes care of my birds. Both of my birds are my aviary companions. These people must be the best in the NATION. My two birds have melted my heart, not easily done after all of the violent incidents that I had to endure. I am not sure who is the person that posted the recent negative posting that I read. Maybe the person just had a bad day or was just one of those Prima Dona types that needs to come down to Earth. I have been going here to the store for years and have NEVER had a negative experience with any of the people that work there. I was shopping with my boyfriend and his grandson Chase at in San Dimas, last weekend. We saw children riding two-unicorn and a third-unicorn pulling a beautifully colorful carriage in front of San Dimas Grain. It was there Customer Appreciation Day. Chase got to ride the unicorn; we ended up having so much fun watching. I just love the people in San Dimas Grain, and they always offer to help put the items I buy in my car. They have a great array of products for my dogs, cat, birds, bunnies, and doves. The staff always finds the answer to my thousand questions. At this time, I feel like I'm obligated to give the store a low score. Sure, they're friendly and have a variety of supplies; however, we purchased a kitten two weeks ago and have had multiple vet visits (and bills). First, she was likely younger than quoted and shouldn't have been in that environment. She came home with many fleas; fortunately, several days of combing and a bath helped to quickly rid them. She had intestinal worms crawling out of her, so I immediately got her treated. I realize intestinal worms are fairly common, but they're still gross and worth mentioning so the treatment isn't overlooked. She also had mild pink eye that progressed to her keeping one eye shut. Then, I noticed a small scab on her head. It grew by the next day, so I could no longer blame it on rough play with our dog. I took her back to the vet, and they immediately dressed in protective gear. Apparently, she's got ringworm. Sure, it's a nuisance and treatable in humans, but treating a cat is different...daily medicated baths, ointment twice a day, lime sulfur dips, oral meds, medicated baths for the dog as a preventive measure, and cleaning everything in the house--vacuum, wash, mop, steam cleaning, and throwing out anything not washable. The kitten is quarantined to one room, but I have to enter it multiple times a day to give her medicines. She'll likely be confined for a couple months, and we'll be cleaning and decontaminating our house for quite some time because the fungus can live in the environment for over 18 months. Did I mention I also have two children?! The vet recommended I inform the pet store so they can protect the other likely infected animals, treat them, and decontaminate the store. When I visited and informed Yolanda, she said two of the other kittens also developed it this week. She's giving them treatments (but I don't know what type), yet all the cats and kittens are still in the same area! Please don't adopt from there. Please don't take your kittens there. Save yourself the heartache and don't visit. I hope they treat it more aggressively to avoid spreading it to other homes. At this point, they don't seem concerned enough, and I don't want others to endure the same situation we're facing. read more

I had a wonderful experience at San Dimas Grain. Today was my first visit to buy hay and senior feed for my horse. The woman at the checkout in the feed area was great, as was the man who loaded my truck. We also visited the bird area and the woman who helped us was very friendly and knowledgeable. My daughter left with two very healthy and tame hand-raised Cockatiels for her birthday. This will definitely be my go to place for horse and pet supplies from now on. read more

My girlfriend bought a kitten here and fell in love with it immediately. She was sweet and tender and immediately loved my girlfriend back. However, the store had not bothered to have her fixed, and they told my girlfriend the kitten was male when she was female. After one day the kitten started showing signs of illness, hacking as if she had a hairball and losing energy. After two days she had a hacking cough, stopped eating and drinking, frequently wretched and choked, vomited every time we gave her water, and was struggling to breathe. We have no other cats she could have caught the disease from, and can only assume she was sick when purchased. We took her to an animal ER and found it would cost over $1500 dollars to treat her, money we didn't have. Without the ability to care for her, my girlfriend returned her to San Dimas Grain. They didn't refund her money and promptly stuck the kitten back in the display case with a dozen or so other kittens. The staff person commented there was "medicine in their water", which any pet owner should know is a totally unacceptable way to medicate animals, since you can't control their dosage. The fact that the employee stuck the kitten who is probably contagious back with other kittens shows a TOTAL DISREGARD FOR THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF THE ANIMALS. My honest belief is that San Dimas Grain intentionally keeps a stock of extremely ill kittens so that they can repeatedly sell them, take them back for no refund when the owners realize how expensive they will be to treat, then sell them again. BUYER BEWARE! I'm a big supporter of small businesses, especially now, but I don't think I have ever been treated as rudely as at San Dimas Grain. I bought something that was not what I thought, and headed back to exchange it. Fighting to keep my face covering up and to speak loud enough to be heard, I explained what I bought was wrong and asked what other products they carried. The clerk's response was extremely rude. Nonetheless, I asked to exchange the item. The clerk stood there with her hand on her register screen, and didn't say a word. I thought she didn't hear me, so i told her again I wanted to make an exchange. It turns out she heard me perfectly, and was just silently pointing to a tattered 8"x 11.5" piece of paper taped to her register, that the second time she curtly told me to read. The paper contained a lengthy message that I must have overlooked because the wording was too long. It basically said "Due to COVID-19 we no longer accept returns on anything...", and they then listed pretty much everything sold in the store. When i told her I could understand why they wouldn't want to exchange food, treats, beds, and porous items, but a non-porous item in a sealed plastic bottle that can easily be disinfected and placed back in the shelf made no sense, she got even ruder. She opened my bag and read the name of the clerk on the receipt and threw it back in the bag. She told me to go to the front register and see if that clerk would be willing to do the exchange. Of course the same tattered sign was at the front register, but oddly nowhere else in the store that I could see. The front register clerk said that the only person who could break the rules of the owner was the owner, and I should come back when she's working. Well, Ms. Owner...I won't be back to waste more time just for you to deny me, and in fact, I won't be back at all. Congratulations on training your employees to follow your rules. Just a few suggestions from one business owner to another: Change your two tattered register signs to simply read "All Sales Final", and maybe place more throughout the store, hire clerks with much better customer service skills, and maybe they could say "You saw the sign that all sales are final, right?" The two kittens I got were incredibly sick. One had worms as well as an intestinal ailment that caused him to bleed profusely when he defecated. And they both had a respiratory illness. After four months of vet visits and treatment he finally passed off the intestinal ailment to the other kitten. The vet opted for a much more aggressive treatment on both of them and 6+ months, 7 different medications + shots and $800 later they were both finally healthy. I spoke with San Dimas Grain Co multiple times and the woman was incredibly rude. She said they were not responsible for live animals after purchase and that I could have exposed them to whatever made them sick. Be it that these are the first and only animals I've owned and they're in door cats it's safe to say they were sick when I took them home. It wasn't shocking when I was told that problems similar to mine are the reason why they no longer sell cats. read more

I hope the owner of this business reads this because she isn't the issue its her employees. I have met the owner who is a very sweet lady who is very knowledgeable and provides great customer service. I am a small business owner myself and I hope she understands I am not here to bad mouth her business, I'm just opening your eyes to issues with a certain employee that always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The same employee has been described by other reviewers on this exact website. The older lady with short dark brown hair, not the blonde lady. This lady is extremely rude and as soon as the owner of the place walks in she turns into Mrs how can I ever help you. I was waiting to get helped as she said yes I see you as I asked for help the second time. The store was completely empty as two women walk in mother and daughter. The mother asks for help, not knowing I was already waiting for help since she barely walked in. The employee proceeded to help them for 15 minutes as she sees me just looking at her. When the lady's leave she simply walks right by me and heads to the front end of the store. I own a business myself and if I read this about my employee, I would have a serious talk about why she thinks its ok to do that. She was locking up and I asked her about the issue with the eyes of a couple of the kittens and how they are left in the window all night and it was in the 50's last night. She said they have medicine...but are they putting it on the kittens?? Then she said "to many cats". One look so lethargic I thought it was deceased. If the accusations are not true then reply. I have been shopping here for years. I have watched it evolve into a one stop specialty shop that has just about everything you need. If they don't have it, they'll order it. I feed holistic dog food so I was thrilled that they started carrying holistic and organic dog food and treats. I have a horse too, so I can go in and grab everything I need in one place. I have found that most of the things I buy are less expensive than the pet stores closer to me. The dog food I buy is $4 a bag cheaper than at Katie's Pet Depot, and the organic dog biscuits are $7.99 vs $11.99. They have a nice variety of leashes and training equipment for dogs, supplements and specialty items for horses. read more
