When I lived on the outskirts of Cypress it was still right there next to me across the street. Now that I live in Whittier I've discovered this wonderful path that goes all the way from Baldwin Park at one end to the beach at the other. This path spans about 30 miles and it is both scenic, horrifying, and polarizing when it comes to how the conditions for the ride goes. When you go east towards the Santa Fe Dam the winds are with you and the riding isn't too difficult. But when you go west towards Long Beach the winds are hitting you in the face like palm strikes. It is a bit of a doozy but if you want that workout it is a great one. The surroundings can go from beautiful rivers that lead to the ocean to dry river banks filled with trash and homeless settlements. It can even have something in between where nature has taken back the area and lush fields of grass and trees occupy the space. It goes near highways and homes and really gives you a journey you never expected. I love finding new things every time I ride, from the houses that are built right next to it to the horse trails running parallel. If you want to stay socially distanced but still want to explore in a manner away from populated streets and spaces I highly recommend getting on a bike and going down this wonderful riverway.

Through director Akira Boch's lenses, the film covers various locations around East Los Angeles that I have never visited despite how close they are, one of which is Elephant Hill. Walking up Harriman Ave, the paved road transitions into a dirt trail surrounded by houses and small farms. The path inclines sharply in some areas and even with careful steps I was kicking up dirt due to mini ditches made from people off-roading. What you will find as you make your way up is a collection of abandoned items, such as rusted classic cars, mangled plastic dolls, weathered plastic bins, and shards from tiles and glass bottles. If you're paying attention, you will also notice purple cardoon flowers among the dry grass, a giant cypress resembling a woman's silhouette, snails clinging onto branches for dear life, and the screeches of hawks up above mixed with the scurrying of lizards below. There's a lot to appreciate here. I'd like to revisit this trail during milder weather, perhaps during the rainy season.

It is the cleanest restroom you are going to find. The people here were very nice and very helpful when purchasing our adventure pass. We were going to buy the day pass, but We ended up buying the yearly pass for $30 instead. They have a cute little sitting area outside.

Along the way, wooden gateways lined the trails, rest stops along the way and up to the turn around point. Only thing missing is restrooms but I can see why. Have fun enjoy. There's a small dirt walking trail in the perimeter of the park with cool rocks and plants to see along the trail and a huge patch of grass. The grass is always so well-kept and there aren't any bugs. A few benches here and there as well for you to sit and relax. There's a lot of trees so you can sit under them on the grass to enjoy some shade!

I guess I have actually never been to Venice Beach before. My mind thought I went to the boardwalk…read morebut I mixed that up with Santa Monica, whoopsie! As you can tell, I'm not really a beach person. I actually have not seen the beach (with actual sand, not just the coast side) during the day time in over 3 years. Naturally this is not my scene. Free street parking is available or you can pay a fee to park closer (helps maintain the beaches though), just make sure to read the signs. I have only heard of horror stories of Venice Beach, getting peer pressured to buy burned mix tape CD's (the way you deter this is have something in BOTH your hands, be it a drink, your phone, holding onto the strap of your bag so nothing can be placed in them), getting accosted and into a fist fight with a vagrant (never happened to my boyfriend despite living next to Skid Row for 2 years, but happened here), abandoned movie level horror Halloween decorations, and much more. So I was a tad worried to say the least. But it's one of those, you gotta visit at least once in your life kinda places, especially if you're a SoCal native. And this was my most recent visit. I DESPISE all the of the AI slop being used to advertise food and other businesses, so there's that. You can walk on the pier bridge to where people fish, you can walk the pedestrian side and see lots of dogs and such, there's a bunch of street vendors and performers, some with their own hand curated and crafted goods, others with Temu drop shipping slop, so just keep that in mind. There's lots of live art and displays too, very avant garde, so that's neat. I also got to see Tokyo Revengers in real life when there was a huge mini bike gathering. All of them were super nice and chill, great community and I got to see them do donuts which was pretty cool. First time I was that close to an LAPD helicopter and seeing the police SUV's dart across the sand. That made the day for me to be honest. Also some promoters give out freebies too, so I got some free Synchron Shohei Ohtani drinks. I don't think I'll ever go out of my way to go here, but it's not bad. Definitely cleaner than some of the other beaches, but again, not an outdoors let alone beach person.

Another issue is there are hardly any places to pull over nearby that you can relax and eat, drink, or enjoy the cities business districts. They also lack signs at the cross streets you go under informing you where you are at, the cities could do better.
