The exterior was was super fun. Iron horses donned the arch as you enter. I ordered the #7 enchilada and Chile rellenos no beans. I asked if they had mole sauce and THEY DID!! They mole was good and not what I have had at other restaurants back home, but good. Although my order was not correct they did offer to replace it, but I felt bad so I did not have them re do it. The Chile rellenos did not come as a whole pepper but diced so I got to have more chips. My friend had the Pollo asado, (seen in picture) that looked amazing and he said it was great. On the way to a funeral on Monday the family stopped here because Brothers and Beer was closed on Monday. The chips and salsa were good. One person ordered Chicken burrito with rice and it was edible. Everyone else's food was slop on a plate. Government cheese and lots of it, beans I would never eat making everything on the plate slop. Worst taco and tostado ever. I know their version of a chili relleno is just cheese meat and a slice of green pepper. The cheese was not melted and nasty. Guacamole, ground beef(I'm assuming), beans, cheese were all of the worst quality. I asked the waiter if he expected me to pay for this uneaten food. He had no response for me, so I told the manager at the front that I was going ding him on Yelp. His response: "I'm sorry". My mom walks with a cane, so it makes sense the "hostess" would seat us at the back of the restaurant. We never complain when disappointed because it is an experiment, but this is the worst food I've ever had. Never ever again. read more

I just adventured out to San Jose near Ballentine recently as It is one of the better San Joses and you will never leave hungry. Their special today was La Cazuela which sounded good with a poblano pepper on top. When I received my order, it looked delicious. After a few bites, I was immediately disappointed. While the food looked good, they mistakenly or intended to use a single bowl which created flavor problems and other inconsistencies. The cheese was a 1/2 inch + deep ay the bottom and ruined the flavors of the beans and rice. This could have all be remedied by a divisional plate or separate plates. But with their preparation it was good until I got down to thick cheesy rice and cheesy beans. Never order as shown. read more

I'd been craving Mexican for a while now and this place was super close to the house and had good reviews so I decided to drop in. There were a lot of staff there even tho it was about an hour and a half before close. We were seated quickly and our waiter took our drink orders. The chips and salsa arrived as soon as he walked away. He returned very quickly before we'd had much chance to look over the menu but it wasn't unnecessarily. The menu is quite small but has the basics for a Tex-mex. I ordered the carne asada mainly bc it was the only thing on the menu with anything spicy like a jalapeño and also avocado. My fiancée ordered the steak and shrimp. After about 2 minutes the sides came out which I then expected the main meal to be right after which it wasn't. So our sides sat for about 7 minutes cooling down. We swapped our sides during this since I like salad and he doesn't. When our meats arrived they were big portions. The steak was cooked well done but was amazingly tender and juicy. The shrimp were also cooked perfectly and soft. Luckily the jalapeño was spicy so having just the one was perfect for me. I ended up having a whole half a steak left on my plate after I'd made three large tacos. Joe had about 1/3 of his left since it was a smaller cut with the shrimp but still leftovers for both. The waiter did take a while to refill his drink to and I had to almost wave him down for the refill. It wasn't that busy to where he shouldn't have noticed since we walked past us a few times while his drink was empty at the edge of the table. Other that that little hiccup the service was great. I want to preface this review by writing I normally don't provide reviews good or bad. I look at dining out as an experiment as to whether I will become a regular guest at the establishment. However, I must write this review as I was very dissatisfied with the food. I love good Mexican food and unfortunately this was not. The food was bland, the guacamole appeared to be out of a can and was tasteless. The presentation was nothing more than slop on a plate. Tacos were uninspiring, ground beef lettuce and an over abundance of cheese. Where are the tomatoes? Had to pay extra for a couple of onion bits on the enchiladas. Just to name a few disappointments. After a night and a day of gastric distress I will never return to this establishment. Only one star because I couldn't go lower. read more

I would like to rate this place higher but after eating there tonight, I am totally disgusted. First the outside of the building looks very festive so I thought it would be a great place to eat. We were seated right away and our drink order was taken immediately. Chips and salsa was brought to the table and this is where the experience started to go downhill. The chips and salsa had no taste. One person in our party ordered a vegetarian fajita. Someone else ordered the shrimp fajita. Neither of the fajitas were sizzling when they were brought over. The vegetarian one had frozen vegetables that come out of a plastic bag. It almost looked like a stew because the vegetables were so mushy. The shrimp fajita had plenty of baby shrimp but it's vegetables were awful too. When the waiter came over to see if we were done he never asked how the two meals were. I think it was because there was so much food left on the dishes he knew and didn't want to partake in confrontation. Because of his actions we will never go back again. We have been to this restaurant a couple of times and usually the service is pretty good. Dropped in for dinner and saw that they had a margarita special. When ordering drinks I asked for the margarita special. The waiter said there wasn't one. I asked if there were any drink specials and he said no. I ordered one anyway and when it arrived it was extremely weak. I wasn't expecting the best margarita in the world but I wanted some kick, especially for the price. I ordered a chicken fajita taco salad. When it came I was concerned that it was missing the chicken. The shell didn't look that full, but when I checked the chicken was there. The flavor was just ok. Everything else was fine. I was just disappointed in the drink. For me it's very important that the waitstaff know the menu and the specials, or at least double check with the manager. read more

This was basically the only place open for the 4th of July! Not mad about it, we got served right away, plenty of chips and salsa was a given, the food was amazing. Came here with my boyfriend and two of his friends. The food was good, perfect portions. Our waiter was very attentive, however there were four of us at the table and he only ever made eye contact and spoke to one of us. It was annoying at first but became hilarious later on. We even switched seats to see what would happen and he still only addressed the same person, after looking extremely confused that we all switched places. Towards the end of our meal he stopped talking at all and would only walk past and give us a thumbs up. This is the first time that my boyfriend and I went to visit this place, which looks very nice from the road. I like the architecture, and when you walk inside, there's a lovely mural with bright colors and festive outdoor scenes that are very befitting for a Mexican restaurant. We were seated immediately by a smiling young man, and we had chips and salsa on the table the moment (literally!) that we sat down. We put in our drink orders right away, and our waiter returned after a few minutes to take our meal order. My boyfriend ordered "Carnitas" (under the "Pork" heading), no onions. He got what he had hoped for, except that the mixed veggie salsa(?) of tomato, cilantro, etc. that was heaped on the middle of the plate was VERY spicy, and he had intentionally avoided anything marked "hot" on the menu. He said the pork was very good, though, and the rice and beans were predictably good, just what you'd hope for at any Mexican place. My order was a bit more complicated. I ordered the "2 Spinach Burritos topped with Nacho Cheese with rice or beans." I ordered this with beans, with "no cheese on top" and "add chicken, so that both chicken and spinach are inside the burritos." I'm sure this was a language barrier problem, but when I received my entree, I had two burritos - one with spinach, and one with chicken. Sigh. Don't get me wrong - both tasted great! But I really, really wanted them mixed. Normally I'd still give 4 stars since the service was fast and everything tasted good, but the spicy veggies AND the order mix up AND the fact that my UNSWEET tea was refilled with SWEET tea... the rating has to go down to a 3. Just a little more care could have been taken with an order - and I guess I need to start taking Spanish lessons! read more
