They seem honest and we felt they cared about the customers. The price was also reasonable and they gave a free estimate. My wife took our car there and they were very good about explaining the problems and recommending what to do about it. When we dropped the car off, he had already explained to his brother what was going on in case he was not there to greet us. After the work was done, he showed her all the pieces he had replaced and showed her what was wrong with them. Today (Saturday) around 2pm I dropped in for an oil change. Was offered standard $40 or synthetic $70. I chose synthetic. They had the filters etc. Was told they'd call me in 45 minutes ( I live nearby). 45 later they called and I picked up the car and was charged the $70 bucks. We went in for an oil change on three vehicles on 06/09/17. [Toyota Tacoma, 2004] - After we left the shop, and drove on the freeway, the oil filter failed, and started leaking oil everywhere. We had to pull over to the side of the road, and we noticed that the oil filter that we have provided them was not there. Instead of using the new filter we bought, they kept our new filter and have installed an old and incorrect filter. We have the receipts so it's easily verifiable. We had to go to the store, buy another filter and oil and do the change ourselves on the freeway. [Honda Civic 2013] - The issue with this vehicle was that the oil cap was not closed. After driving for a little bit, it reeked of oil and it was extremely bad and nauseating. When we opened the hood of the car we noticed that the cap was not even closed nor tightened. They just kind of put it on top without securing it. When we went to the repair shop to ask them what happened to our cars, the guy was cursing at us telling us to "get the f#ck out", "get the h#ll out", etc. We have a YouTube video of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nB9nHVEFWHM They also did not let us inspect our vehicle or let us see how the filter was installed. We have taken my father car here before and Van was very helpful. This time my father who is new to the area went alone. He took his car in to be serviced before a road trip. The tech (Not Van) initially tried to charge for an expensive oil replacement he didn't need since we had recently had it done at the dealership one month ago. After deciding on the service he needed it was dine, my dad paid and left. On the way to LA my dad noticed a loud noise. It got progressively worse as he approached his destination. He went to a local mechanic and was informed that the lug nuts had NOT been properly tightented and he was lucky to have survived the long drive. This was highly irresponsible and could have ended up with my father dead or killing others on the road. This is disgusting and highly unacceptable. We will Never return to this business again and I urge you to be very careful if you do use their services. Taking advantage of an elderly person you should be ashamed of yourselves. read more

Van at San Leandro Auto Care and his staff are the BUSINESS!!! My car suddenly started knocking, stuttering and loosing power on a Friday after work. On Saturday morning, I walked over to SL Auto Care and told Van what was happening. He told me to bring it on over and since I lived next door, I drove it right over. In no time, he'd change the air filter, run a diagnostic, had an estimate and called me to come on over. He showed me everything that was wrong and the estimate. It was much less then i'd anticipated, so I agreed to the work. Van said he'd have the car done by 1 AND IT WAS!!! He'd hardly had it anytime at all, from start to finish, and it's running so much better then it has it quite a while. Van and his crew are the best!!!! read more

My neighbor recommended this little nondescript garage on E14th. Van the owner was very professional and since we already priced another garage his prices were more than competitive. My son's 95 Honda needed some major work and before Van started he did a complete diagnosis and reviewed the work that needed to be done. The other garage said it would take 7 days and in 2 days the job was done. We picked up the car and he showed us every single part and pointed out specific damage. It's been 2 months and the car is running perfectly. Also brought in my mom's van which used to stall often. After Van's magic touch and fair pricing it is running like a gem. An honest business.. My very first trip to this shop & I'm a fan. Why? Took my Volvo to Van on a Saturday morning for a quick headlight bulb replacement. Van was soooo accommodating, changed the bulb in 5 minutes at a friendly charge of $10! Why I'm a fan: 15 minutes prior to this visit, I went to Champion on MacArthur & Lewis. The guy said he'd do it for $60. When I told the Champion guy that the folks down the block from them (JC Tire & Brake) would do it for $35, the guy's response was a deadpan "Then take it to him" & sauntered off. Since JC Tires was closed, I couldn't take my car there so I ventured out & lucky me, stumbled upon Van. That's what I call a good neighbor service. Yep! I'll be going back for some quick repairs. Still holding review on major repairs as I only have the dealer do that. We'll see. read more

One of the best auto mechanics out there...I always bring all my cars over there and they always take care of me with fair prices and quick returns along with recommendation for parts and when i should get something fixed if its not needed right away. I usually just drop off my car for one repair and tell them that if theres anything else wrong call me to let me know, and not once have i ever second guess them but Van always insist i come down (i live a block away) and to take a look at the work that needs to be done. The best part about them is that i started to do a lot more work on my own car (performance modification) everytime i "mess up", i walk over tell Van what happened and he would also send one of his employees over to my house to give me some advise/ to help me out. Ok so I read the previous reviews and decided to take my car in for repair. So my car was making a squeaking noise as I drive. I went to one car repair place and he quoted me $986 to fix. This place did a great job on my 02 drop top mustang. I had breaks done by an other shop and kept hearing a rattling noise. I went back to that shop and they couldn't tell me what it was an said it was unrelated to my breaks. I knew something was wrong. I ended up coming here due to the yelp reviews and i am glad i did. Van the owner looked into it and they figured out that the previous shop forgot to put back the anti-rattle clips on my calipers. The other shop even lost those clips which were not easy to get. I ended up having to come back to SL auto care after i found the missing parts in an other city. They fix my brakes and the noise and issue is now gone. They were very responsible in the cost. They charged me because they had to take my brakes apart to figure out what was wrong but then only charge me half when i came back with the missing parts. Very fair! They know their stuff. They are great for small to mid size jobs like the one i had them do. read more

My friend has been going here for years for her business cars to get taken care of. She said van is very honest and will not rip me off. So I called to ask if they have time for a diagnostic today Monday morning. I was told to come in. So I come in and right away he was able to tell me that my steering pump is not working properly I just got it replaced in December he mentions there should be a one year warranty so to call and find out first before he does work on it. I call and find out I only have a 90 day warranty so now I'm having to pay for the exact same work that was done in December again I was pretty disappointed and he was disappointed too he figured I should have a one year warranty on that part. Well I asked him to go ahead and do the work for me and since my car is already there which means I have to be off work I might as well do the brakes too. He was able to get all the work done the same day and his rate was very reasonable I agree he's an honest man and if you're looking for a new place to go I recommend you give them a chance he deserves your business. read more

Save yourself the gas and frustration and chose elsewhere... Although the younger gentleman helped to solve my problem, the rudeness and disrespect of the older man completely destroys this establishment. Took my jeep in a few days ago for a diagnostics. I explained to them the problem (rough idle and stall out at low speeds). Hours passed until I had to pick up the phone to call and find out they were done. Customer service, strike one. As I paid my 95 dollars and backed out of their lot my jeep stalled out completely, if not worse. I walked back saying they didn't fix my problem and that they in fact took my drivability away completely. The older man argued that I didn't come in for that problem. I asked the younger mechanic about this and he claims to have "not noticed that"... How do you miss a stalling truck? After accusations of a bad part i replaced weeks back, going to oreilly in my girlfriends car to swap this part out, working on my own jeep in THEIR shop, and as assumed, finding out it wasn't that parts fault, I went to the young gentleman who finally opened the hood for one last idea which finally pinpointed the cause which is what I was supposed to be paying for anyways!
