I took four watches in to have batteries replaced on April 13th, the owner replaced all four batteries but could not get the back on one so he kept it but I paid for all four. I returned on today to pick up the one watch and brought another watch in for battery replacement, I gave him a $20 bill expecting $10 change. He said I never paid for the watch I was picking up. I saw he was not going to budge. I left because being black I did not want to argue and get heated, the police would be called and I would be another statistic! I am just so angry, it was $10 lost not worth my life, I will find another watch repair shop.

I had bought a beautiful old Seiko clock from eBay a few years ago. It was really lovely and I had gotten many compliments on it from visitors to my home. I was thus pretty devastated when it died suddenly. I took it to a couple of different clock shops, and they assured me that there was no way the clock could be repaired. However, a friend of mine suggested that I try my luck at the San Leandro Clock Shop. As happened at the other shops, the owner Chris said that the clock could not be repaired. However, as it turned out, he had another old Seiko clock in his shop from the same period and was able to swap out the mechanism for me! I also had an old wind-up clock from my father that had died. The clock had actually stopped running many years ago, but I was reluctant to toss it out because it was of a really unique shape and had great sentimental value. Same sort of story: I had visited quite a large number of clock repair shops and had been told that the clock could not be repaired. However, Chris fixed the clock! Chris has a fast turn-around time for repairs and is extremely honest. If he doesn't think he can fix your clock, he will not mince words. Also, the first time I was at the store, when I offered to pay him when I dropped off the clock for repair, he not only refused the payment but actually gave me a lecture on how you should never pay any service person for their work before they have completed the job!

Chris, the owner, came to my house to repair my antique grandfather clock that hasn't worked in months.

I want to echo the negative reviews. I've been coming here for several years, I've bought wall…read moreclocks from him as well two floor clocks and had floor and many wall clocks serviced by Joe, and on more than one occasion I've dealt with Joe's attitude. He seems entitled and tell you what he thinks is a fair price. Really? The last time was the last time. I'd left the mechanical guts of a clock with him to be repaired while the chassis was being fixed by a woodcraftsman. This was the poor victim of a shipping fiasco by someone who had no business selling clocks. At the same time I "sold" two wall clocks to Joe that in exchange he would credit $100 toward the repair of the clock in question. Well, after several months, the woodcraftsman could not get around to repairing the chassis due to illness so I told Joe to toss the mechanical guts. He indicated they were really beyond repair anyway. Because the first clock could not be fixed due to the aforementioned woodcraftsman, I bought another and asked Joe to tune it up. At the same time, I brought in another clock and asked if he was interested in it. At first he offered $50, then $75. I told him no and left, but he followed me to my car and then offered $100 toward the second repair. I accepted it only because I knew he already owed me $100 toward the first repair which never happened. So I'd get $200 off the repair of the second clock. But on the claim tag, he noted only the price minus $100, which I planned to bring up with him when I came to pick up the second clock. Well, to my surprise, he could not remember the other two clocks I'd left with him. He asked where were they and I said they were in his possession, how would I know where he put them? Then when I described them and he suddenly remembered, he made a comment about not charging me storage fees for the first clock he'd held onto while I was waiting for the chassis to be repaired implying as if him dismissing the other $100 he owed me would be in exchange for the storage fees. Really? I explained to him it was not my fault the woodcraftsman could not repair the chassis of the first clock and insisted he credit $200 toward the repair, which he declined and argued with he and made some comment about me quibbling over $100. Really? He had three clocks of mine that were worth much more than $200, and yet I let him have them because I knew he'd either fix them and send them to a new home or use them for parts. He had the nerve to insist that the first $100 credit could only be put toward the repair of the first clock. Really? So, I asked him to give me back the two clocks that I'd left with him previously. He no longer had them. He had no response, other than to honor the first $100 credit, but rescind his offer on the additional $100 and give me the third clock back in spite. I left with him shaking his head in disgust and reprimanding me? Really? What the heck is this guy's problem? As others have noted, he seems perpetually angry. And greedy! And when I questioned the repair of the second clock because the pendulum bob was sitting too high in the cabinet and there was too much thread of the rod exposed, he told me I should worry about more important things. Really? Who the heck does this guy think he is talking to customers like this? Instead, stop taking the cheaper and lazy route and fix the clock as it was meant to be fixed with the pendulum bob sitting in the right position. He charged me several hundred dollars for this shoddy repair! Disgraceful! If anyone should be disgusted, it is me. His customer service is deplorable. He gets too personal and treats you like a child. Shame on you, Joe! I'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on!

I really liked that this is a local family business with an honest and friendly approach. I know what I am talking about because last time we went to another place near home for the same work on another watch and it was more expensive with worse service and quality. That is why I would rather drive ten minutes here and get the job done right.
