I came here excited to try the food, but I left feeling humiliated. I ordered tacos and food from the menu, and I did have a small item with me from outside. I didn't realize it was against their policy, and I would have respected a polite reminder. Instead, the bartender Annie raised her voice at me in front of the entire room, held her hand up as if reprimanding me, and said, Hey ! You can't eat that in here ! That's Department of Health policy ! The whole place went quiet, and I was left feeling singled out and embarrassed. Then when my friend went to paid and she said, "Oh you guys mad now? Sorry not sorry, that's the policy." As a Black woman, the way I was spoken to and dismissed in front of everyone made me feel especially disrespected. When I tried to calmly explain how the interaction made me feel, Annie walked away while I was still talking. It wasn't about the rule itself -- I understand businesses have policies -- it was the unprofessional and dismissive way it was handled. Fantastic rendition of a "dive bar" in Red Hook, Brooklyn! I've had a lot of tacos, even from amazing Michelin star restaurants, and this spot has them beat! I had chips and guac--some of the best I've ever had. The chips are clearly homemade and crispier and more flavorful than any I've had! I also had three tacos for 17 bucks. I had the Al pastor (juicy, dripping with flavor), fish (perfectly fries, tons of taste, crispy), as well as carnitas, also crispy and tasty. I had a couple of delicious drinks, including a spicy margarita. This has a working class neighborhood bar feel, and the food is definitely street food, authentic quality. Biked around the neighborhood over the weekend with perfect weather. Decided to stop in to a place that we've had on our list for months for a quick snack. Outdoor seating (both covered and uncovered) is available first come first serve. Service was a little slow since it was busy and it is, after all, a dive bar (I don't usually expect A+ table service at dive bars). The cucumber margarita was so refreshing. Paloma was just OK. Maybe next time we'll make them both a double. We ordered fish tacos to snack on. The tortillas were freshly made, with good chew and char flavor. Sad that there was only 1 tortilla per taco. Brunch was great here. Good sized portion, relaxed service, fresh tasting food and nice drinks. The huevos a la Mexicana had scrambled eggs, cilantro, jalapeño, tomato and came with rice and vegetarian beans. I'd have this again but would also like to try some of the tacos next time. read more

While a relatively recent arrival, this dive bar really owns this space, and it looks like a well-worn hangout that's been around for decades. It is heavy on atmosphere of the hodge podge sort: license plates shellacked into the wood floor boards, random vintage news clippings and colorful "art" plastered all over the walls, and tin ceilings which are likely original to the building. On a recent Saturday afternoon/early evening, there was a DJ spinning some very cool tunes that were as eclectic as the decor. BF and I ordered drinks and tacos (fish, carnitas and chorizo) and chicken mole enchiladas to share. The food arrived surprisingly quickly. Food was a solid 7-8/10. If you get the tacos, stick with the carnitas, they were the best. Fish was a bit doughy and the chorizo was just ok. The drinks took a sweet long minute (well, maybe 15 minutes after the food). But hey, at the time, we were more hungry than thirsty, so it wasn't a huge issue. The spicy tamarind margarita was nice and refreshing, and with a good balance. The servers were nice. I really enjoyed my visit here. Solid, unpretentious and decent food in a quirky setting, which is sometimes all we want. read more

I just love that when you go to New York and enter a restaurant or a bar that you are immediately asked for your vaccinated information. San Pedro Inn was no exception and the employee that asked me for mine was just very pleasant and kind. We were there for the Barnacle parade and they were giving away food to those who participated. So I've just left San Pedro on van brunt st, my review is based on my first time experience there and here's how it went, for starters I am African American, my cousin recommended this place for her birthday. At first it started nice we got there maybe around 7, of course when we got there it's a diverse crowd which is cool my cousin has been there before so she suggested it for her bday . The bartender and all were good great hospitality made us comfortable and made great drinks. Then comes after around 940 and they played the happy birthday song for my cousin before we were leaving, she's celebrating being 50+ so it was basically all fun when the next song came on as requested she started dancing feeling the vibes and decided to dance with a chair for fun , suddenly it becomes a problem for the owner we started getting negative feedback about it . I took it upon myself to give a introduction to the owner who had the problem with the dancing and oh yeah us being loud celebrating and hyping her up mind you it's Saturday before 10 pm , so while asking him about the worries he basically said we were too loud and the chair dancing was a lot which was really nothing inappropriate just good vibes and laughs but the owner did not agree , when I see we were unable to communicate I proceeded back inside and just asked customers on the side if they felt uncomfortable or anything by our presence they were totally fine with how everything was and couldn't see what the problem was but the owner disagreed so I proceeded to tell the bartenders thanks and then a random guy comes out of no where had to be a regular to say we were being ignorant mind you was never speaking to him and he insulted us , but per usual bc we are black we get targeted this is insane and I wish the madness can end, meanwhile while talking to the owner I explained it's a bar/lounge he said it's a restaurant lol I'm confused but let me know if you decide to go there but if your "black" you may not have the best experience , God bless tonight really pissed me off I thought we were past all the negativity you have a bar/ lounge and say black ppl to loud for your ppl trying to have dinner in a bar lol my God wish this type of experience of no one , this is my review love the bartenders the owner can kick rocks he has hate on his blood for black folk and I'm speaking from experience obviously upset to take the time to make this review and not will be doing more to spread the word!!!! read more

Once again, I want the option of 1/2 stars, as I'd give this place 3-1/2 stars. It's new and not yet great, but it has promise. This spot has a laidback dive-bar feel, which is perfect for Red Hook. The woman we ordered food from was really nice, while the bar tender emitted no personality at all. Note to the latter: when you're newly open, you gotta try to engage with the customers, at least act pleased that they are patronizing your joint so they'll want to come back. The menu is not extensive, but it doesn't need to be, as it's a bar, not a restaurant. The tacos were decent and well-priced, definitely fresh. We had the carnitas and carne asada options. They'd be better/more memorable with some sort of fresh salsa or pico di gallo. A bottle of commercial hot sauce is so basic...you need something a bit more special to add moisture, flavor and interest. There are plenty of decent tacos in town. Make yours stand out! We also tried the ceviche tostada, which was okay, not something we'd order again. What we did really like was the tamale, which isn't something we'd normally order. If you need something filling/comforting in your belly in preparation for imbibing, the tamale is the way to go. We each had a margarita which was decent, definitely strong. The hub would've preferred a good draft beer, but the offerings are rather meh, so that's another area for improvement. The hub wants to give this place another try. What a disappointment. This place used to be so, so good and has now fallen completely on its face. Maybe if you sit at the bar and reminisce about the old dive bar of all dive bars, Bait and Tackle, you might be happy but as a "restaurant" patron you will be sadly disappointed. I can't remember the last time I had such poor service. We are talking basic Mexican food and drinks here, not rocket science. In a nutshell, you won't get your drinks, food, utensils, napkins, you name it, without badging the wait staff and you will only receive blank stares and words of astonishment as to why you would expect such things. The food is still acceptable but sour taste left by the service overwhelms it. Better off ordering take-out from El Mexicano Restaurant & Cafe. I like this laidback spot in Red Hook--I've come here twice now for casual drinks and tacos, and it makes a great spot for a group or a bite after a trip to Pioneer Works. The menu isn't extensive but the tacos really hit the spot, and the drinks are strong and wallet friendly. I also managed to catch some of the band they had playing on a Sunday afternoon. I absolutely love San Pedros. They have great Mexican food and a really chill ambiance. The service is excellent and they have plenty of comfortable outdoor seating. The staff is super nice and the entire place has a very local vibe. I ordered their carne asada quesadillas, which were made on delicious, homemade feeling corn tortillas. Stood at the bar waiting to order food while the bartenders were having a conversation with their back to the customers. Must have been a super important topic!! Finally they turned around and were able to avoid eye contact with the customers..it's a gift. After decades of eating authentic Mexican food this was such a gift.
