    Dry Aged Cheeseburger and cavatelli

My partner and I have been wanting to try this place for a while! We decided to go on a random Tuesday for an early dinner, around 5/530. I normally see that this place gets long lines but we got in right away! Super cute pub vibe, bar seating, window stool seating and tables. I would say better for small groups. We ordered their French onion soup, burger and cavatelli ragu. Everything was delicious! We really loved the burger which was the most hyped and was very good. I like their fries as well. I'd go back for sure!! Next time for a drink at the bar and more of that burger.

My fiance has wanted to try the burger at this restaurant for a while. So on a rainy Sunday afternoon we waited 2 hours for a classic all American burger. It was a flavorful thick patty on a sesame seed bun served with fries and a pickle. Was it worth the wait? Probably not but it was still good. The wedge salad was also flavorful and delicious. The thick cut bacon and buttermilk based dressing created a great balance. This is something I would get again. This is a cute hole in the wall tavern. Be sure to check it out when in red hook but if you show up after opening be prepared to wait.

Finally made it back to RHT after a few years and the burger was just as good, if not better, than I remembered! Flavor of the dry aged meat was exquisite, and the fries it was paired with were even better than last time. We didn't have a reservation, but walked in around 5:45 and were quoted 45 minutes. It did take quite a bit longer, but I understand it can be unpredictable for walk ins so not gonna knock em for it. Still worth it!!

We ventured to Red Hook to try the famous burger at the Red Hook Tavern. Lined up about 11:30 as they do not take reservations. We moved up to the front and put our name down and were told nicely to come back in a hour and 45 minutes. We walked all over Red Hook on a sunny day and eventually got the text that our spot was ready. We were close by but still picked up the pace. Got seated at the bar. Very cool space with a tremendous selection of liquors available. We each ordered the dry aged burger with onion, cottage fries, and pickle medium rare. The burger when it came was large, cooked perfectly, well seasoned and juicy. Cottage fries were yummy. Pickle was a half sour, would have been better with a full sour IMHO. They do give you a tiny bit of ketchup but I did not mind. That burger was the best one I have had in NYC. When I come back will line up earlier for sure and maybe try more of their menu. Great friendly service. Shout out to the hostess who remained calm with endless questions about when you should show up tonight for dinner.

Came here around 5:30 with some friends and ended up waiting about an hour since it was pretty crowded. The front desk girl let us know ahead of time that the wait would be that long, so it was expected and we didn't mind. It felt like the kind of place that usually takes reservations. We ended up sitting outside and the weather made it even better. Our waiter was very attentive and kept our water filled the whole time. Food came out at a good pace and everything felt smooth overall. Even though we weren't seated inside, the vibe was still really nice. I ordered the Red Hook Tavern burger cooked medium rare and it came out exactly how I wanted. The fries were really good too, loved that they were regular potatoes and not sweet potato fries. Only thing I would say is I wish the burger had a bit more to it like lettuce. It did come with sliced pickles which was nice though. Overall I really enjoyed the food and experience. I would definitely come back and try other dishes since everything else we saw looked really good

The long awaited reservation finally came! After placing notifications on OpenTable for 2 weeks. We took whatever time we got. Upon walking in we were greeted by the hostess and welcomed. The inside is cozy old school NYC vibe feel. We had bar seats, the bartender was very attentive. First we started with the blue cheese wedge with bacon, it was pretty good the bacon was thick and smoked. The pappardelle pasta with the mushrooms and sour cream was unique, I have never tasted a sauce like this, loved it. Then the burger which definitely ranks top 3 burgers I've ever had, flavorful and juicy, would def come back for the burger.

Sat outside since inside was crowded. Service was good. The best dish was the pork chop. The sides complimented each other really well from the creamy grits to the veggies. Bolognese was rich and filling. The burger was pretty good--quite juicy.

Great burger spot nice inside as well . But really small take out menu . Not sir what they don't expand it and or just make it like Everywhere else . But that's their business !! Pun intended . Burger was juicy perfectly cooked .

This is the place that has arguably the most talked about burger in NYC. They talk about it like it's the most orgasmic burger ever. Naturally, had to come and try for myself. Came on a Thursday right at 6 PM. To my surprise, it was already packed. It was too chilly to sit outside and the wait for a table was around 20 mins which wasn't bad. They had a bar next door, so we had beers while we waited. We ordered oysters to start. They were the teeniest oysters I've ever seen. Quite possibly smaller than the size of littleneck clams and at that price point, robbery! The accompaniments were not good at all. No flavor. I'd skip this. My friend did not agree to split the burger and get other things to try, so we got our own burgers. Ordered mine medium. I regret to say, I was underwhelmed. We both were. Cannot really pinpoint what was missing. I feel like the bread was great. The onion was necessary even though I'm not a fan of raw onion in burgers, it kinda makes the burger. The char on the patty was great. Is it the meat that wasn't pulling its weight? Perhaps needs to be seasoned? Idk. But it wasn't as orgasmic as ppl described. This goes to show that not every viral thing lives up to the hype. This to me was a slightly above average burger at best. It wasn't the cheapest either. I came, I saw.

I really hate to say this but Red Hook Tavern may be overrated. I snagged a same-day 5pm reservation on one of the first warm weather days of the year! Which is great because I had been searching for a few weeks for a reservation to no avail. Pro tip: If you are looking for a reservation here, check OpenTable randomly and see what they have! The service and atmosphere was some of the best. A very nice hostess seated us and we sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and attentive. We ordered the French onion soup, two burgers (cooked medium rare), and rainbow cookies for dessert. The french onion soup was amazing!! 10/10 no notes. Once we finished the soup, we waited almost 25 minutes for the burger to come out which was surprising but totally fine as they were busy and this was their first seating. The burgers came out and they looked great, but the taste left a lot to be desired. First, the burgers were really undercooked, even for medium rare, which was disappointing given the wait time. The burger also tasted a bit like nothing? I so badly wanted to taste the meat and cheese and I really just did not. If I hadn't just enjoyed the flavors of the French onion soup, I would have been worried I was coming down with something! Don't get me wrong the burger wasn't BAD, but it was diner-level quality at best. On to the rainbow cookies. I was really excited about these but they were served cold out of the refrigerator and I could tell from the taste that they were stored in a refrigerator with other ingredients. There was a faint onion taste--yuck! (You know when you leave a banana too close to your sandwich and your sandwich tastes like banana? Think of that but rainbow cookies and onions!!) Overall, service was good but I food-wise, I think Red Hook Tavern is resting on its laurels. Don't think I'll return :(

The Red Hook Tavern burger has similar hype to LeBron James coming out of high school. It's #1 on nearly everyone's best burger in New York list. So naturally I was skeptical. Can one meat frisbee really be that much better than all the other ones? I walked 24 minutes from the nearest train stop and arrived 12:30 on a Thursday with my big homie, and we got a seat at a tiny bar stool in the corner. The ambiance feels like a cozy cabin that belongs somewhere in the mountains. We ordered oysters ($24) and 2 burgers ($32 each) that came with fries. Huge. We were filled with anticipation, as we had just hit Minetta Tavern for their famous Black Label Burger the day before, and questioned if this one would really be that much better. When this burger came... I mean talk about passing the eye test. It doesn't rely on gimmicks or a fancy build, the beauty is rooted in its simplicity: A dry aged beef patty topped by melted golden cheese that softly drapes down over a dark seared crust, contained by a glistening toasted sesame bun that's sturdy, but not overwhelming. It looks the way the human memory wants a burger to look. No excess, no flash, just BUCKETS. The meat frisbee weighed in at a hefty 12.3oz, which is 1.3oz above the median NYC burger thus far. The cottage-style fries came in at 5.1 oz. The crazy thing is, it tasted better than it looked. The thick dry-aged beef patty was seasoned well and griddled perfectly to where it had a rich crust while maintaining a juicy interior. The cheese and onion balanced the richness of the beef, while still letting it speak and be the star. I was sitting there pondering if I had ever even really had a burger before. It's a generational talent. It had so much motion that I think it might have broken the Richter scale and given the ring camera a "motion overload" error. I had to pop a dramamine right after. I'm hesitant to give a 10, as I've never given a 10 for anything, but this is a 10. It's the best burger I've ever had, it's my 2018 LeBron, my 2011 Tom Brady, my 1991 Julia Roberts. Fries were also a respectable 8/10. This vs all other burgers was a clear "there's levels to this..." performance. I'm talking Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin in 2009 kind of levels. I had it almost a week ago, and I'm still thinking about it. It changed me. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

So glad was able to try this place!! I felt very sufficiently "whelmed". I think it lived up to the hype of a GREAT burger, but it wasn't life-changingly good. The meat quality was super good and the bun was great. The lack of toppings was fine given meat quality. It was $32 which was super steep. I think the fries were very OK, and honestly the famous cookies were not great and super hard. The service was fine, not outstanding but nothing wrong at all. Vibe was great though, super cool tavern and interiors. They did get the burgers wrong slightly, saying one was medium well and one was medium rare while it was the opposite. Not a big deal at all though. Overall, well worth a try and visit if you can get a rez, but waiting hours feels excessive. I'm not confident for the burger with the price point and average fries that it is the best in NYC, but it is definitely delicious.

We got in line around 11:55am on a Sunday. We put our names down and were told it would probably be 1:45 before we got a table. Very accurate! We got a text at 1:44. We were seated at the bar. It took a while for the food to come after we ordered, but it was worth the wait. The burger is incredible. So juicy. The cheese is perfection. Love the crunch from the onion. And the caramelization on the bun is chefs kiss. Friendly service too. Can't wait to come back!

For the burgers, some pictures show cottage fries and some pictures some 3 steak fries, is it random? 3 fries seems too little.

I had fantastic (and at very nice portion) cottage fries

Do they have heat lamps outside?

    Yes. They do

    Is a reservation required?

You can make a reservation through Resy or you can take a chance as a walk-in/waitlist, which seems to be in the over-an-hour wait on some nights. Try to get there early.
