So...I asked the young lady to please wrap them in silver paper and tie them with green or red ribbon for the holidays...as they were to be given to various people as gifts. She rang up my purchase, I paid her and she slapped down the wrapping bags and ribbon on the counter. She stated that she doesn't or wouldn't be able to wrap my bottles. Now I looked behind me and there were no other people on line...so I did not understand the problem or why she wouldn't do this for me. Most if not ALL liquor stores wrap your bottles for the Holidays. I told her I'm not sure how to do this very well and that I don't have a scissors on me and that I needed to make various stops when I leave here. She told me she doesn't wrap and that was that. So rather than fight and make a scene in the store...I put my bottles in a box because they don't give bags with your purchase, I told her she was very rude and left the store. Alcove has a pretty dismal selection of wines; most of them are of the cheap, unknown label variety, with the exception of a stand of 20 higher-priced wines in the middle of the store. I wandered the 2 aisles, looking for anything I might recognize (I have a decent knowledge of wine), and the only ones I knew were the Gallos and Taylors, the cheap grocery store-type wines. I figured I'd just skip the wine and, since Christmas was coming up I'd buy a bottle of Wild Turkey or Maker's Mark to put in the eggnog. Nope, no Wild Turkey, no Maker's Mark, no Knob Hill, etc. The only decent bourbon they had was Jim Beam, and it was overpriced. In any case, if you want a really cheap bottle of wine from an unknown vineyard (or a 3-liter jug of Gallo), this is your place. Otherwise, you'll want to skip it.

The crux of my then 4 star review was completely based on the fact that I felt overwhelmed by the amount of attention I got from their staff which were all offers to help me. Admittedly, I have a tad of social anxiety and looking back, I think I unfairly judged my experience at this store because of my own personal aforesaid anxiety, coupled with my introversion. This is also why I chose not to update my first review but to simply delete it and start fresh, from a more clear minded perspective. I honestly changed my opinion and was unhappy with my prior elaborate complaints over being offered so much help, while I browsed. In retrospect, every worker that offered their help seemed sincere when they approached me and my bet is that the majority of the population would take and experience that as a major plus! The impression I actually got overall is that the employees and owner of this business are truly passionate about the products they are selling. Some clear facts that I think will be of help to anybody who is looking for this store for the 1st time... it is located in a small shopping complex that it shares with about 3 other stores and they share a parking lot so you should not have trouble finding parking for your shopping experience. The other stores in the complex are "Venice Pizza," and a dry cleaners. I should also point out for first time customers that the signage is modest and fairly easy to miss... What should be of service in locating this business is that it's located across the street from two businesses that have obscenely large signage - "Imperial Wok," and "Townhouse Diner." I also will quickly take a minute to discuss the ambience that's inside the store. The modern rustic, clean and organized atmosphere is one that I found attractive and appreciated. It definitely felt inviting, had character, was unique, and also quaint. I actually scarcely drink wine so I dont think I was able to take advantage of all this business has to offer. They have a large variety of very expensive wines and spirits that any wino or connoisseur or just someone who wants to learn more about the options available to them (i.e. grape type, wine style, age, etc.). For someone looking to enhance their palette and/or increase their knowledge so that it goes beyond the common and rudimentary, I think this would be a place to go for that purpose. I didnt actually know whether or not they offered wine tastings until pulling out of the driveway, when I noticed a window sign indicating that they do indeed offer tastings, twice a week.. I believe it was Fridays and Saturdays. Once again, ironically going back to the subject of customer service, I think a shopper looking to deepen their wino lifestyle would find a staff member who would give a shopper personal attention.
