- THORNS, WASPS ruin an otherwise great park - Been here several times and usually end up fleeing wasps whenever we have food in the main park area. Memorial Park honors a couple of San Ramon heroes that dedicated their lives to this country. Thomas Edward Burnett Jr. (1963-2001) helped prevent the terrorists from crashing their plane into their 4th intended target on September 11th, 2001. Lance Cpl. Kyle D. Crowley (1985-2004) died fighting the War in Iraq. It's a beautiful memorial & tribute to a couple of local San Ramon residents. As for the park itself, it's a decent sized park that has a little bit of everything. It hidden up on the hill that's located west from the I-680 freeway, off of the Bollinger Canyon Road exit. They contain a large dog park, with a playground, a little dirt bike area, picnic tables, bocce ball area, little league field, etc. Parking is kind of small, but I haven't had problems finding parking. Overall it's a nice community park with a lot of friendly locals. read more

Took my nephew here over the weekend to enjoy this park. It's pretty well kept up it's very large and the swing set has some good spots to play at. There is also a dog park located inside this park. The parking is a bit limited but it wasn't super busy so it was a none issue. The place was pretty clean. Kind of puts my Hayward parks to shame. San Ramon holding it down in cleaner bigger better parks. I would check this spot out if you like the outdoors. Wants a chill place to walk. The bathrooms were also pretty clean and they have a dirt track above the playgrounds. There are a ton of areas to eat and sit as well. This park has it all. It has a large grass area below the dog park. It's just a good sized park that has something for everyone. There isn't a crazy good hike but a small walk around so. If you are looking for a hike this isn't the park but it does everything else well. San Ramon holding it down for the parks. read more

Parking - Enough during weekdays and weekends. Plenty of running room to play fetch or chase. Sandy / dry dirt surface - When dry, it won't stick to your dog as much, easy to clean off. Plus less chance of fleas. Dog fountain and bags provided. Needs more shade, only one canopy and small trees near the fencing. If the weather seems nice, I'll bring my little mutt here to run around. If it's hotter than normal, I prefer she run on grass at Dougherty Hills or Heather Farms. It's cheap to get in: j/k it's free. Enjoy! Oh, btw, in the small dog side, I've seen chiauau's escape into the large dog side by means of squeezing through the gate. With scared owners hesitating and screaming for their dog to come back. Memorial Park in San Ramon has a resident crowd of dogs at 9 am and another gathering at 5 pm. There are any where from 15 to 30 dogs mostly well behaved. There is plenty of parking and restrooms. Since the Dog park is very large, dogs can run and play off leash. There are lots of old tennis balls to play with and a gazebo for some shade. On one end of the park there is a separate small dog park and on the other end there is a drinking fountain for the people and dogs. read more

DOG PARK: Apparently, this dog park has become more popular since the last two reviewers visited. It's rompin' now! It's still that gravelly stuff, but it's very large with shaded seating. Unfortunately, we couldn't take Edie inside because I had the little kids and there was a sign saying that kids 5 and under aren't permitted for their own safety. Though I've taken my kids to dog parks before, that seemed like pretty reasonable advice, so we headed down to the... PLAYGROUND: There were quite a few big friendly canines in the playground area as well. My older daughter had a great time walking Edie around and introducing her to friendly dogs and people. I was here with a playgroup, and though there are a lot of climbing, sliding and swings here, all the kids wound up congregating at the big sandbox, which made it easier for us to be able to watch them and actually converse. We noticed there is a bike dirt course and plenty of paths around for riding. On the way out we hit the... RESTROOMS: Single room, reasonably clean and well stocked restrooms. read more

Nice doggy park in San Ramon with a large enclosed dirt area for dogs to play in. Has a doggy water fountain and pooper scoopers. There is a separate area for smaller dogs. Took my inherited doggy earlier today along with a friends dog. They were a little anti social but enjoyed the park. All the other dogs were social, welcoming and most of the other pet owners were friendly. Pick up after your dogs and keep your dog in the section that is appropriate to your dogs size. read more

Love Memorial Park. It has something for everyone in my opinion. My son loves to play then explore. He goes up to say hi to the dogs and watch the big kids ride bikes. Then takes a way along the track around the baseball field. We come here a lot with our playgroup and have fun. Just wish there was more shade, but in a year or two the trees will be huge and provide a ton of shade. read more

My boyfriend and I walked our family's dog down to the dog park on a Saturday morning around 8:30am. There was only one other dog there playing fetch, and they left within the first 5 minutes we arrived. So, we basically had the whole dog park to ourselves for about 20-30 minutes. There was a german shepherd on the other side (I assume it was the "small dog" side) by himself with his owner, looking sad that he was alone and couldn't play with us. We had a great time playing with our dog, not having to worry about proper dog "etiquette" since no one else was there. The park was well kept, the water station worked fine, and the gates closed with no problems. I've also come to the baseball diamond and playground area on other occasions. Everything is well maintained and never too crowded. There is always plenty of parking in the lot too. On another Saturday morning I had walked past to see a crowd of little league baseball players enjoying a game and their families having a great time at the park too! read more

2.5 stars I really wish this park was bigger and had a cleaner sandbox since it's in walking distance from my house. The play structures are nice and suitable for all ages. However, the bucket swings for younger kids are mounted very high and I cannot get my son into one of them. I have walked here with a friend who brought her dog with her and stayed with us for a weekend. Her smaller dog loved the dog park and it seemed like a good set-up, but I don't know much about the needs of dog owners. read more

The dog park here is a great escape for our doggies after waiting in the car for their humans at Costco. OK, the dirt surface isn't the cleanest but it does provide good traction for racing around after the balls that are scattered all over the area. There are two sections, separated by dog size. Our little dogs have met many doggie pals here and enjoy the socialization. Note: Dec. 22, 2009 - The BMX area is closed. Not sure if it's permanent or temporary. read more

yesterday we took our Lily-dog to Bollinger Dog Run. There were a few dogs on the little side and a couple in the big-dog side. Lily had a great time running around and coaxing the other dogs to chase her. The large area covered in dirt/ crushed rock seems like it a lot of dust will get kicked up. There is only 1 shade structure in the big dog side and nothing on the little side. The weather was great today, but in the middle of summer, this place will be way to hot for my dogs and myself. So if it''s hot out, look for a more shaded park, but if the it's cool and overcast, give it a try. read more

It does have a big and small dog separate area. The surface is such that you can go on it right after it rains. The city needs to put some time and money into it. (1) There are fence gates used for staff, like the one between the big and small dog area that should be locked, but not. (2) The gates used to enter the park don't close tight. (3) At one time they would remove the excess dirt, but this has not been done in years. It has a layer of loose dust, this makes it unpleasant. read more

Finally a bunch of good dogs have become regulars and most of the aggressive ones have learned they're not welcome. Pretty much everyone who comes to this park is chill. Be prepared for dogs who are very sweet, but loud and rowdy. They like to play hard here, and that's not everyone's cup of tea! But Loki sure does love it, neck biting and all. Nice thing about the sand is that it just falls off their fur, so it's actually easier to clean than dirt. read more

We were on the way to the vet and found this park right down the road. It was around 12:30 on a weekday and there was not a dog to be found. Good thing I have two chihuahuas who love to play together. I really like this park. The dogs nor I minded the gravely turf. It didn't kick up any dust and they could roll around in it without getting supremely dirty. The little dog side is little, so we walked around the big dog side which was huge. We did a few laps and then went out to the grassy area and walked around there. There are doggy drinking fountains and popper scoopers which is great. I hardly saw any dog poop. Way to clean up! Another huge plus is that they have a bathroom not too far! That's great for someone who has to pee every 10 minutes! Really cute park, we will be back on future vet visits. read more

What is up with the granite find surface. The website claims that the dogs love this surface... ???who are they kidding??? this surface is dusty and dirty and does not feel good underfoot. I want the guy that sold this surface to the park and rec council members to walk on it forever. Nice off leash dog park! It is a large very clean,open, decomposed granite surface with benches, shade structures, trees, water fountains for dogs and owners. Couple things that were strange? First thing was I arrived with my dog around 830am and there was not a single dog at the park. As I am writing this a half hour later. There is still not a dog or human to be seen?? Starting to look for quarantine signs. Haha! Second, most odd! The park has a poop scoop and rake to clean up after your pet. Great! It's dirt scoops up easy. By here is the odd part. The garbage you put the waste in is a spring loaded enclosure (like fast food trashes). Problem is it is a two handed operation??? You inevitably will get dog shit all over the part you push open to try and fit the scooper with !!!??? ‍ read more

We recently adopted a happy little dog from the shelter. Because he's the only dog we have, we want to ensure he continually socializes with as many dogs as possible. He loves playing and being in the company of other dogs so we've been doing the rounds of local dog parks. This park is the closet one to where we live. It's relatively quiet (1 of the 2 times we've been there Pinto was the only dog) which I don't mind, and can't be helped. However, my rationale for 3 star rating is for the small dog park and its lack of security. Pinto is 11lbs, so there are certainly dogs out there smaller than him. The entrance gate is fine, but the side gate has 2 major issues: 1) the gap between the gate and the fence is large enough where my dog (and therefore other dogs of his size or smaller) can get through 2) the gate blows open in the wind. The locking mechanism is not secure enough to hold it in place. This is an easy solve, they just need to put similar locks to what they have on the entrance gate. Both times I've been to the park, the wind has blown this side gate wide open. Ultimately, if you go to this park with a small dog, I'd recommend standing in front of the gate and not moving to avoid any escapes! I'm going to keep an eye out for a brick or something to bring to wedge behind the gate to stop it opening when it's not supposed to ... That'll fix 1 of the 2 issues. I really would like to see a little bit of money invested to make the small dog park truly secure for small dogs. Other than that, it's a decent doggy park. read more

My dogs love this park because it's so big, perfect for chasing each other and other dogs around. I like it because of the sandy materials on the ground, unlike real dirt is easier to clean. It's especially a better place after a rainy day. The sand doesn't get stuck on the dogs'fur and I can just wipe it down, before they get into the car. You will also notice that while you are there, waiting for your dogs to play, you can look to the East to the great views of San Ramon Valley and Mt. Diablo. The metal benches and picnic tables are a low maintanence place to sit, wait or chit chat with other dog owners. This dog park has two parts, for small dogs/puppies and for the bigger dogs, water fountains for dogs, trash bins, extra bags for picking up you know what. Basically it meets the requirement of a dog park. read more

This is a decent dog park that's got room to roam. Seperation for large and small dogs. However, the dirt surface results in dusty dogs who needs to be cleaned up. Pros: 1 - Good size and room for larger dogs 2 - A nice gazebo to provide shade and rest for the humans Cons: 1 - Small dog area is a bit small with not much more than a couple of trees 2 - No shade in the small dog area 3 - Dirt surface = dusty dogs! While it's much cheaper to care for, it makes it harder for some owners whose dogs live inside the house with the humans. This park would get a better rating if the ground isn't just dirt/gravel. read more

This review is for the playground area. I had a really good time with my son and nephew. They had two jungle gym setups, with different things for them to climb on. I don't really mind the dirt surface as my dog is one who's life purpose is to chase and retrieve a ball. She could care less about other dogs. Plus: Large area. Minus: My only complaint is the water fountain. I don't want to have to go over to it every time the dog needs a drink. It negates the training we've done to tell her to get water herself. My suggested time to go is late summer afternoons after the sun has gone over the hill but it's still light out. And just like every park - there are the annoying owners who have out of control behavior dogs or people who brings their kids to chase the dogs. Just got to learn who they are and avoid. read more

Beautifull park. Three stars because of an incident involving my two dogs, another dog and a park maintenance worker. When entering the large dog area, an aggressive (rambunctious) 8 month old pup immediately began rough play towards my dogs. When the pup cornered my dogs in the entrance area they responded in dog fasion. Asserting a pecking order. A maintenance worker hoeing in the small dog area threw his hoe down, ran full blast into the entrance area and grabbed one of my dogs. The man who owned the aggressive pup finaly came over to get his dog. I told him the dogs would be fine, let them play. He responded with, " if you have aggressive dogs I can't let him go". I assured him my dogs were okay. He let the pup go, it was constant bullying. I do not like Irony. He had the aggressive dog yet insisted labling mine as such. The maintanace worker way overstepped his boundries. I thought he wanted fist fight. This is one of the best manicured parks in the bay area. read more

This is for the Dog Park area only. I'm re-reviewing the dog park and downgrading it to 1 star because it's obvious they do NOT care about fixing a major safety problem. The gates in the large dog park area are both misaligned so the gates will not securely latch. It is a double gated entry and BOTH gates can swing open by themselves! One week it was windy and 3 days in a row both gates were wide open when I arrived providing the opportunity for all the dogs to run out. There were at least 8-10 dogs in the area and no one had noticed. Now when I'm there I have to constantly monitor that the gates are closed. I even took the time to find one of the Park Maintenance crew and informed him but it's been over 3 months and nothing has been done to fix it. This is a safety issue not just for the dogs since there is a busy 4 lane street on a curving steep hill next to the park, but also for children and other people using the other areas of the park. All it takes is for a couple of overexcited dogs to knock down a child or elderly person and seriously injure them. The city of San Ramon is asking for a big lawsuit. Secondly, all those comments about the trash cans are true. They are so poorly designed they are not functional. There are no bags provided by the City of San Ramon and just one scooper for the entire area. C'mon, San Ramon is an affluent area with huge wealthy business parks and they can't provide cheap poop bags! If it's an environmental concern over plastic bags, at least provide another scooper for the larger area. The 2 trash cans in the large dog park area are located near each of the entrances. They are tall and have those self-closing swinging flap openings. The problem is the flap which is really hard to open & has a weird metal handle on the front of it won't push backwards more than 5-6 inches and must be held open or it snaps close. Oh!maybe it's supposed to be lifted up??? Never seen one like it, will try it. To make matters worse, the opening is high and too small to fit the scooper so you're trying to keep the flap open while trying to lift the scooper without having all the poop fall out! Since there are no poop bags and the trash cans are impossible to operate, the dog poop tends to pile up or not get picked up like it should unless people remember to bring their own bags. Lastly, the surface is decomposed granite and never gets washed down unless it has been raining so the urine just stays there. If your dog lays in it or gets rolled around, the dust that gets in the fur really smells. I recommend bring a brush or plan on rinsing your dog off if he likes to roll around. During the hot summer, the stench can be overpowering. It would be nice if they hosed the area down periodically. FYI, the large dog area is regularly pretty lively between 10AM to 1PM on weekdays. read more

In the summer it's dusty, and the winter it's muddy...A lot of people from out of the area seem to bring aggressive dogs, and don't seem to control them. I've been there 4 times and each time a dog fight seems to break out...One guy showed up with 10+ dogs, which were completely out of control going after every male dog they could find. The second the owner of the dogs showed up in the parking lot I saw the regulars grab their dogs and run out the gate...I wish someone said something on their way out, because my dog got bit by one of owners 10+ dogs as I was making a b-line for the gate after seeing two other dogs get attacked. You won't find me back there again. read more

Docking a star off previous rating. On multiple occasions now, I have witnessed irresponsible owners at this park, not including the usual 'not going to pick up poop' kind. The majority of the people are nice but I seem to run into more ignorant folks here than other parks. Last incident was just last week where a golden mix routinely latched itself onto a pit bull's neck (yes, ironic but the pit is super sweet). The dogs appear to know one another and thankfully, the pit bull was is a super submissive and playful dog. The golden mix however, was aggressively dominant routinely snapping at the pit and pinning her with his jaws locked around her throat. Granted, dogs at play do include growls but there is a different energy level in the sounds that tell you whether the intent is harmless or not. The golden mix's owner clearly does not know the difference. Nor does she think that her dog's habitual locking of his jaws on the other dog's throat and holding on while emitting highly tensed snarls is a serious warning sign of aggression. She was approached regarding this to which she firmly rebuffed her dog's aggression. Other dog owners either went to the other end of the park or left altogether. To her defense too, she was also clearly afraid of her own dog and lacked authority. Even though I am not a huge fan of Cesar Milan, I suggest she watch a few episodes of The Dog Whisperer to get an understanding of dog behaviour. read more

I go to the Castro Valley dog park mainly for convenience, and my mom wanted to check this dog park out. This place is even more dusty than the Castro Valley one. It's big enough to tire out my dog after a couple of laps around the park, but there were only 2 baby trees in the back of the park. The Castro Valley has a mini forest in the park for the dogs to get "lost" in. I'd come back here mainly because there's this large patch of grass down the stairs to the left of the park. I think that's where you can have bbqs and parties. My terrier loved to run in the grass. My husky liked the gophers in the grass and started digging. I'm going to guess that my husky isn't supposed to be digging in the grass, but there were already holes from the gophers. haha the only thing is the patch of grass isn't fenced off and the dogs can run down to the parking lot. What I did was come late (7:30pish) and let my dogs go in the dog park, then when everyone was gone, I let them go to the patch of grass. My terrier comes back to me so I let him off his leash and he was ecstatic! read more

This place smells. But it's a dog park, I guess it comes with the territory. I don't like the dirt/gravel surface which seems to hold that smell, bake in the sun, and there is hardly any shade. I only come here on Tuesdays when the Danville park is closed. So I would say it serves it's purpose but wouldn't be my first choice. read more

This is a nice park and conveniently close to the freeway. My family has been having our Fourth of July BBQ here for years now. There's a playground for kids at the bottom by the parking lots. Plenty of playing space, swings, and a large play structure so they can go nuts. When you walk up the stairs there's an open field for running around and a BBQ pit for grilling. There's even a dog park next to the field. It's a nice park but I wish the children's play area was on the same level as the rest of the park. It would make it a lot easier to watch the kids while grilling. Other then that's it's a good small park read more
