I take them (separately, each has a full day of my time) to their doctor's appointments, shopping, to the hairdresser and always to lunch. I try to get them out of their houses to see life outside their four walls. Sometimes we just go for a drive, to the Wetlands or Point Fermin or any number of other places. Knowing these two women has enriched my life. I have become their friend. Since it is a volunteer position I do not get a salary per se but I am becoming a very rich man I n other ways. I love giving back, being of service to people who need assistance and I love the way it makes me feel about myself. And it's really a lot of fun. Going through placement of a loved one can be an emotional roller coaster. I've seen the worst come out in some family members when mom or dad start to decline. Sadly, it's a common trend to blame others when they can't regain original conditions of health in said loved ones. I would place my own mom here. He gave me two meeting choices 11:30 or 1:30. When I said I can't make those times could she meet any other time, he said those are the times - he clearly was not interested in helping me. I responded back that if those were the only times she had available how was she going to take care of my mother during other times? His response was a cold email mocking me. Of course that was the last time I would be communicating with him or his company.

I purposely visit patients at different times because it is very important to observe as many staff as I can because it allows me to observe how my patient is cared for in different situations. This home is warm and inviting. Current staff, Tatiana, Dawn and Naelli treat all residents with love and respect. Patients aren't rushed to get into the shower, moved around roughly in bed when getting undergarments changed or given large mouthfuls of food when being fed a puréed diet. I can ask a question and if they don't have the answer, they will get the answer. They call me before a medication runs out/expires. They will let me know if there is a change in a resident's behavior, appetite or an issue with skincare. I have had a patient here for almost six months. No skin breakdown. The staff accepts suggestions. This is a very secure home for family members who have dementia. I recommend this home to families who want caring staff taking care of their loved ones. Lilian, administrator, is an RN who is a "hands-on" owner. When looking for a home for a loved one, this is very important. She welcomes suggestions and is available by phone if she is not onsite.
