I have been to Sancho's Tacos in San Clemente a hundred times and I was hoping this location would be the same. I just felt like the food didn't have as much love in comparison to our visits at the OC location. Our waitress seemed not thrilled to serve us, but a young man who helped us as well was very nice. Typically I love the flaco taco with artichoke and avocado, but on this visit the avocado was very hard and the artichoke was not cooked very much. read more

Claremont has so many options to pick from and yesterday I came into this establishment. The decor is pretty cool and the place is a decent size. Not to big not to small. We were greeted and they brought complimentary waters for the table. The food was not bad at all everything tasted great. However we did order 2 lemonades and a cocktail that we never received and when we got the bill they were charged. After speaking with the server she did apologize and removed them from our bill. Came here for dinner after getting my hair done at Escape Salon on the next street over. My cousin had been before and said they had good food. Tried to go to Espiu's yesterday and they were closed. Walked 75 feet North on Yale and found a Sancho's!! How fortuitous! I spent 10 years eating at the original one in Huntington Beach, and after surfing at the one in San Clemente. This was exactly the same, which is excellent. My favorite has always been the chips and salsa. They don't give them away for free but they shouldn't. When you order them, they literally cut up fresh tortillas and fry them. Hands-down best tortilla chips on the planet. In HB I would always just get the Roja salsa, but we had a six salsa sampler. My favorite: the Roja salsa! I went with my usual tri-tip tacos. I have them leave off the chubby sauce because it is too sweet for me. I throw some of my Roja salsa on instead. Food, service and atmosphere is always good. The chips and guac are really good and fresh. It is a little pricey but that's what it is in downtown claremont. Only reason I gave it a 3 star and not a 5 star is because the soda is ALWAYS ALWAYS flat/not a lot of carbonation and I hope in writing this review they can fix it because I love this place but just hope they can fix it. Wanted some breakfast on a Sunday morning after visiting the farmers market. Stopped in because it wasn't too busy. Greeted immediately and was told to be seated anywhere I chose. Decor is kind of strange but whatever works. I was there for food. Ordered chilaquiles and was not disappointed. There were a decent amount of chips, but not so much as to overwhelm the plate. Salsa was mild, which was great since I'm not a spice person. I am a rice and beans person, so glad to see a good amount of each. Rice and beans were good. The quantity and spice level may not be everyone's taste, but I found both to be a good balance of food on the plate. I guess you can say it's more Americanized. The only time I tried Sancho's Tacos before was their breakfast food at another location and it was good. Also, another location is always crowded, so I really wanted to try their non-breakfast foods. I recently found out there is a Claremont location, so that was great to me to finally try. I had their chicken burrito, pinto beans, chips and salsa, and a couple bites of their tri tip nachos. It was OK. Here are my comments: chicken burrito - nice size, but not worth $20 when it's just the burrito alone without at least any rice or beans for a combo plate. The flavor was OK, nothing special. It was just the meat in which there were just a few chunks, yet tons of rice. Beans normally go in there too, but I had them put it on the side. It was a dry burrito, so you really need to add sauce. Suprisingly, cheese isn't even in the burrito. pinto beans - OK chips & salsa - I liked. The roja sauce could have have been a little spicy, which it's not at all. tri tip nachos - OK, I had to spit out a chunk of meat that was bristle or something. Regarding the sauces, the roja one is fine if you don't want any kind of spiciness. The verde one is fine. The 5150 has this sweet taste I don't really care for. I didn't want to try the chubbie sauce because from its description, it's even sweeter. Their prices are high for what you get. I don't really need to return, but at least I tried them. read more

I was skeptical at first because when I arrived one of the Servers (the one in all black in the photo) looked dead at me at least three times, ignoring me. We even made eye contact, as if she was about to come and assist me, but turned and went to check out another table. Anyway, not too much long later, another young lady came and sat me, she was amazing, very genuine. I ordered a shrimp taco, and a carnitas taco. Both were very good. The green sauce, which I typically deny, was delicious. The restaurant definitely gives bar type vibe. In MY opinion, it could stand to be a bit cleaner. It wasn't very crowded, but I had to request that my table be thoroughly cleaned and I even had to wipe it again after. And, that was not the only thing I noticed, but it was most significant to MY visit. Right before I was about to leave, I guess the server that ignored me, wanted to redeem herself because she came up to my table and literally smiled at me from ear to ear, asking if I enjoyed my meal. Lol I can't help but think it was because the young lady that took my order noticed me doing my check-in, and I told her that it was my first time . Upon entering, you can seat wherever there's an open seat. I came around evening time during the week and it wasn't busy at all so I was seated immediately. The ambiance is very fun and relaxed, and the hostess and server was very friendly and patient with my party. I ordered the chicken burrito with red sauce and my friend ordered the surf &turf and Pounder's carnal tacos. The portions were huge and the price is good for the amount you get. I discovered Sanchos years ago in San Clemente. Always has been quality food, but nowadays $22.00 for a small/medium sized burrito is wild! We were immediately greeted upon walking in. The bartender was super nice and very friendly. The wait staff is kind and very attentive. All the food was delicious and came out quickly. We never had to wait long. The decor is so interesting and there is so much to look at. The details are interesting and they played good music that had me dancing in my seat. Tried Sancho's for the first time. Scene: LOVE the decor! Right up my alley. And although the song pics were great, Just what I was listening to back in LBC in the 90's, it's a bit clamorous for my taste now. The music sets a party atmosphere, but doesn't set a mood for relaxation. Service was very friendly. I love the little bar tables by the windows. The dining room is very small. Cute little bar too. It would be a fun place to rent out for a private party! House Margarita: Our first margarita was so perfect. Nectar of the Gods. But in a small tumbler with ice, so $9 for a HH marg seemed a buck or two high. Still, so good it was worth it. The second one was much more sour and our server said she made it with lemon (only lime in the first one), as she's been instructed. We let her know the first one was far better. I do not like lemon in a margarita. She was kind enough to get us a little shot of agave to sweeten it up. Chips: The first chips we got were warm and crisp. The chips are fresh and made to order, which is nice, so they can take time to come out, which is fine, but the second batch was not fully cooked/crisped, so they were still chewy and unpleasant. We took them home to try toasting them later. I think they were just taken out too soon. The guac was heavy on the citrus for my taste, so just okay. Burritos: Mi padre got the Surf n Turf Burrito, which was delicious. I got the Flaco which was interesting, but just okay. I think if the ingredients were mixed together more and some cheese was added, it would have been pretty good. But too many bites of just artichoke and spinach (super healthy) w/o the bean to round it out. Still, very nice quality ingredients. I almost burned away my taste buds by pouring Hector's Spicy Sauce on it, something I will not do again. The verde sauce is good. Not cheap at $20 and $17 respectively, but huge. I could only eat half. I'd definitely split one next time. All in all, Sancho's is very cute and I'm sure a fun place to bring your teens. I can see returning for a margarita in the cute little window booth (if they hold the lemon) and a fish burrito sometime, but I'm not in a hurry. read more

I like the atmosphere. It reminds me of a 'service industry' after-work haunts. As I hung out and watched the later afternoon NFL games (I believe they had 4 TV's) people came in and out for a quick bite to eat... most didn't linger, unlike myself LMAO I was talked into trying the Grilled Shrimp taco that was delicious as well but my tortilla fell apart. This one I partook with my signature 'French Martini' which was refreshingly delightful! Lexi is AMAZING!! The music was old school R&B the evening I sat there and took up residence... but if you know me then YOU KNOW ME - I will cop a squat for a while if the music is good.
