Claremont has so many options to pick from and yesterday I came into this establishment. The decor is pretty cool and the place is a decent size. Not to big not to small. We were greeted and they brought complimentary waters for the table. The food was not bad at all everything tasted great. However we did order 2 lemonades and a cocktail that we never received and when we got the bill they were charged. After speaking with the server she did apologize and removed them from our bill. Tried to go to Espiu's yesterday and they were closed. Walked 75 feet North on Yale and found a Sancho's!! How fortuitous! I spent 10 years eating at the original one in Huntington Beach, and after surfing at the one in San Clemente. This was exactly the same, which is excellent. My favorite has always been the chips and salsa. They don't give them away for free but they shouldn't. When you order them, they literally cut up fresh tortillas and fry them. Hands-down best tortilla chips on the planet. In HB I would always just get the Roja salsa, but we had a six salsa sampler. My favorite: the Roja salsa! I went with my usual tri-tip tacos. Wanted some breakfast on a Sunday morning after visiting the farmers market. Stopped in because it wasn't too busy. Greeted immediately and was told to be seated anywhere I chose. Decor is kind of strange but whatever works. I was there for food. Ordered chilaquiles and was not disappointed. There were a decent amount of chips, but not so much as to overwhelm the plate. Salsa was mild, which was great since I'm not a spice person. I am a rice and beans person, so glad to see a good amount of each. Rice and beans were good. I was skeptical at first because when I arrived one of the Servers (the one in all black in the photo) looked dead at me at least three times, ignoring me. We even made eye contact, as if she was about to come and assist me, but turned and went to check out another table. Smh Granted, I could tell I wasn't what appeared to be their "usual"customer, but still, at least not make your willingness to not assist me so obvious. Anyway, not too much long later, another young lady came and sat me, she was amazing, very genuine. I ordered a shrimp taco, and a carnitas taco. Both were very good. The green sauce, which I typically deny, was delicious. The restaurant definitely gives bar type vibe. In MY opinion, it could stand to be a bit cleaner. It wasn't very crowded, but I had to request that my table be thoroughly cleaned and I even had to wipe it again after. And, that was not the only thing I noticed, but it was most significant to MY visit. Right before I was about to leave, I guess the server that ignored me, wanted to redeem herself because she came up to my table and literally smiled at me from ear to ear, asking if I enjoyed my meal. The only time I tried Sancho's Tacos before was their breakfast food at another location and it was good. Also, another location is always crowded, so I really wanted to try their non-breakfast foods. I recently found out there is a Claremont location, so that was great to me to finally try. I had their chicken burrito, pinto beans, chips and salsa, and a couple bites of their tri tip nachos. It was OK. Here are my comments: chicken burrito - nice size, but not worth $20 when it's just the burrito alone without at least any rice or beans for a combo plate. The flavor was OK, nothing special. It was just the meat in which there were just a few chunks, yet tons of rice. Beans normally go in there too, but I had them put it on the side. It was a dry burrito, so you really need to add sauce. Suprisingly, cheese isn't even in the burrito. pinto beans - OK chips & salsa - I liked. The roja sauce could have have been a little spicy, which it's not at all. tri tip nachos - OK, I had to spit out a chunk of meat that was bristle or something. Regarding the sauces, the roja one is fine if you don't want any kind of spiciness. The verde one is fine. The 5150 has this sweet taste I don't really care for. I didn't want to try the chubbie sauce because from its description, it's even sweeter. Their prices are high for what you get. I don't really need to return, but at least I tried them. read more

Upon entering, you can seat wherever there's an open seat. I came around evening time during the week and it wasn't busy at all so I was seated immediately. The ambiance is very fun and relaxed, and the hostess and server was very friendly and patient with my party. Tried Sancho's for the first time. Scene: LOVE the decor! Right up my alley. And although the song pics were great, Just what I was listening to back in LBC in the 90's, it's a bit clamorous for my taste now. The music sets a party atmosphere, but doesn't set a mood for relaxation. Service was very friendly. I love the little bar tables by the windows. The dining room is very small. Cute little bar too. It would be a fun place to rent out for a private party! House Margarita: Our first margarita was so perfect. Nectar of the Gods. But in a small tumbler with ice, so $9 for a HH marg seemed a buck or two high. Still, so good it was worth it. The second one was much more sour and our server said she made it with lemon (only lime in the first one), as she's been instructed. We let her know the first one was far better. I do not like lemon in a margarita. She was kind enough to get us a little shot of agave to sweeten it up. Chips: The first chips we got were warm and crisp. The chips are fresh and made to order, which is nice, so they can take time to come out, which is fine, but the second batch was not fully cooked/crisped, so they were still chewy and unpleasant. We took them home to try toasting them later. I think they were just taken out too soon. The guac was heavy on the citrus for my taste, so just okay. Burritos: Mi padre got the Surf n Turf Burrito, which was delicious. I got the Flaco which was interesting, but just okay. I think if the ingredients were mixed together more and some cheese was added, it would have been pretty good. But too many bites of just artichoke and spinach (super healthy) w/o the bean to round it out. Still, very nice quality ingredients. I almost burned away my taste buds by pouring Hector's Spicy Sauce on it, something I will not do again. The verde sauce is good. Not cheap at $20 and $17 respectively, but huge. I could only eat half. I'd definitely split one next time. All in all, Sancho's is very cute and I'm sure a fun place to bring your teens. I can see returning for a margarita in the cute little window booth (if they hold the lemon) and a fish burrito sometime, but I'm not in a hurry. read more

Please allow me to preface this review. This was a DoorDash order. A lot of delivery or to go orders from different restaurants are often subpar. Decent tri tip burrito. The tri tip was overcooked, a bit dry and chewy. The flavor was good. I requested grilled serrano chiles [an option offered by the restaurant] inside the burrito and got raw serranos instead; disappointing. It was later in the evening and that may have had something to do with the texture & quality of the meat and the burrito in general. It was overpriced in my opinion. BTW the meat on both of the tacos was moist and flavorful and that Chubbie sauce was a nice compliment to both choices,. This location is where the old "Heroes" used to be but is much smaller now. I like the atmosphere. It reminds me of a 'service industry' after-work haunts. As I hung out and watched the later afternoon NFL games (I believe they had 4 TV's) people came in and out for a quick bite to eat... most didn't linger, unlike myself LMAO I was talked into trying the Grilled Shrimp taco that was delicious as well but my tortilla fell apart. Spontaneous dinner with a friend while we were in Claremont. Chips, huevos rancheros, and chilaquiles...breakfast for dinner is always a good call! I could have made a meal just of the chips. They were perfect: hot, crisp, not greasy. We asked for 4 of their 5 salsas, and I liked each of them. I added some of the salsa to my beans and rice to perk up the flavor a little more. Fun atmosphere, as long as clowns don't creep you out. Tap water was ick, but their coffee was surprisingly good. I didn't know what to expect of this place. After walking by a few times and peeking inside, I thought it was kind of cheesy... The decor is based on every stereotype of Mexican American culture - lowriders, cholos and animatronic paper mâche "pinatas" of prison tattoos (Mr. Cartoon style clowns, etc) on the walls. When the opportunity to dine here presented itself, I was able to confirm that all of the above is true. LOL. Unlike many other cultures that seek to cancel, however, Mexican Americans and in the broader sense, Mexicans, celebrate this culture and past. Because, guess what? We do love lowriders, and we love to eat tacos, and we love cerveza. It is what it is. Snd, some of us were cholos, I mean we invented the cholo! A lot of us grew up in rough neighborhoods and now, largely because through hard, education, or both, we moved to better neighborhoods where we can give our families a better life. First timer! My friend and I came here after a nice stroll at the California Botanical Gardens. This place was about 6 minutes away and we were both craving some tacos. Since it was a Saturday evening parking was packed but we did manage to find parking nearby. I liked that on the outside of the restaurant they had a menu. When we went inside, we were warmly greeted and seated right away. The place kind of gives me a bar/ sporty atmosphere which I had no problem with. Our waitress was kind and asked if this was our first time coming in. She started us off with water first and then came back to take our orders. As I was scoping the place out I can tell it gets busy. The restaurant isn't that big but it feels intimate. As my friend and I were engaging in conversation, our food was brought out to us. Absolutely appalling. I informed the server of my severe dairy allergy before ordering, yet I ended up in anaphylactic shock after eating there. My tongue and throat was so swollen I could barely breathe last night and all day today and had the full range of allergic reaction, so this was not a cross contamination situation. When I called to alert the manager, I expected at least a shred of concern or accountability. Instead, I was met with complete indifference!! She dismissed my experience outright, implying I must have eaten something else--because apparently, a customer going into a life-threatening reaction after dining at their establishment is just some kind of coincidence? Her tone was condescending, as if I had called just to waste her time, rather than to warn them about a serious health and safety failure. This place is a lawsuit waiting to happen. If they handle food anywhere near as carelessly as they handle customer safety and concerns, it's only a matter of time before someone ends up in an ER--or worse.
