It's a 50s diner. We landed there on an outside table four years ago before my daughter even started college. So it's a tradition and we went back during graduation week. The service is nice, the short order cook fast but the food is mediocre at best. The pancakes were just shy of soft cardboard. The eggs were good and my daughter liked the change after too much dining hall food. The eggs Benedict came with a huge weapon - definitely overkill for the poor little piece of ham that almost falls apart when you look at it. I got the chicken Philly with fries, and my friend got a tuna melt with fries. Food came out pretty quickly. The food was fine, my chicken Philly was a bit on the dry side and I tried my friend's tuna melt, it was good but more fishy than I'm used to and could have used a bit more mayo. Both sandwiches could have used more seasoning (salt/pepper). Know that the layout of the restaurant is probably grandfathered in to their original design. The entire interior of the restaurant is not ADA accessible. Restrooms are TIGHT and booth seating is also very tight to sit in - I'm 5'2" and I had difficulty getting in and out of my seat. This place is exactly what it says. It's gonna be 50 style diner with all the basic breakfast items. They even show that with the seating as if people are still built like they were in the 50s. If you are a table of two you'll have room, but if it's a table of four good luck, it will be a very tight squeeze. Food was good again just think of a mom and pop breakfast spot. I met a friend here for lunch. We were sat outside, which was perfect. Our waitress was very attentive and professional. The Rueben and fries were delicious. My guest ordered a cheeseburger and salad, which he said were very good, as well. The prices are a bit high, but that can be said about most places, these days. This is your normal Diner. Very similar to Russel's in Pasadena. The food was very good. They were a little skimpy on jelly. Portions were big. Service was good and the food came out fast considering how busy they were. I think they should increase prices a bit. read more

Chill and friendly American joint in the Claremont Village area. They open at good hours with both Breakfast and Lunch options. Servers were attentive and nice, and it was clear that the locals loved them! Their French Toast was very nicely flavored and textured, and I liked the home-made taste of the omelette and fries. 8/1/24 I could've sworn that I already dropped a review here! Love it so much that I gravitated back on one lazy Thursday. Must've thought I reviewed it coz I wrote a caption for the photos I took last Memorial Day. Usually each photo I post is with a caption that conveys a memory or a reaction from the experience of the visit. In any case, I have to order the blueberry pancakes that I had last time-so good, packed with fresh blueberries-plump & juicy! Today, our server is the wonderful Shelley (I hope that's the correct spelling?). She is attentive & kind. Hubby ordered a breakfast burrito, pretty huge (I could've eaten it on 3 meals) but he ate the whole thing! No beans but he forgot to ask to hold the hash browns. I had the pancake combo with scrambled eggs & bacon. Everything arrived in pretty good amount of time. Shelley came by a few times to check on us, my coffee was refilled appropriately. I'm a happy camper. Definitely could see us coming here regularly. Love this part of Claremont, lots of shops to walk & browse. Parking was easy today but it could get hairy on the peak hours & days. The service is always excellent and the food is pretty good. We had two eggs, bacon, hash browns and a side of toast; and two eggs, bacon, and pancakes. The food delicious, however I did want to mention that the coffee was extremely watered down and the ketchup on the table was in an unmarked clear squeeze bottle, it looked almost purple. I made the mistake of adding ketchup to the hash browns before tasting it, and it was super vinegary with a sour tomato taste. I think they buy cheap ketchup in bulk and fill the clear bottles. It also smelled like old grease when we entered, I hope they clean the oil. read more

The food is classic Americana at its absolute best, and the classic fifties decor makes for an experience of days of old with milkshakes and jukeboxes. Stay Away! If I could give zero stars, I would. The front desk took our name and decided not to call us -- seemingly because of our skin color. No one could explain why our name was crossed off, and we ended up waiting an extra 40 minutes with a baby. Absolutely unacceptable behavior. This is not a one off incident, their previous review shows customer experiencing racial discrimination. The food was equally disappointing -- possibly the worst in LA. It's always great when Yelp reviews are right. Stopped in one day and was immediately greeted and seated. I had previously reviewed the menu online and had a good idea what I had wanted. Unfortunately/ fortunately while you're there you see the food coming out to other tables and it all looks soooo good. We went with a burger, a Rueben and a club. We were all pleased. The meat in the Ruben was tender, the burger was large and juicy, and the club was made well. All the meals were tasty and the service was very very friendly. This is a great place to stop in and have a traditional lunch. I look forward to one day enjoying a breakfast there. Minus one star for watery ketchup. I came here to try their biscuits and gravy combo ($11.75). It's near the colleges so it can get packed with college students eating together and older people catching up with each other. The decor inside is 1950's themed. The lady took my order quickly and it came fast since it's a popular order the day I went. The platter comes with two eggs and meat of your choice. I got their bacon but it was not as crispy. The biscuits were fluffly and soft, the gravy was creamy and not heavily seasoned. The staff was nice and the place is clean. Because I live in the area, I'll frequent this place for breakfast. It's your typical diner with standard offerings. I usually get the omelettes when I'm here. It's a chill, relaxing, and comfortable place to hang out with seating inside or out. The staff here are what make this place feel familiar and welcoming. The customers are usually a mixed bunch, but I've never had a bad time here. My only qualm is that the hashbrowns sometimes don't come out crispy enough even if I ask for well-done which is why I started going the homefries route. We've eaten at the Village Grille twice in the past month. We live in Orange Country but periodically visit our grandson who attends Pomona College. He had previously eaten at the Village Grille and enjoyed it. We had breakfast at 11:30 am. The food was great! I had biscuits and gravy. The best I've ever had. Hot and plenty of it. The corned beef was a little too salty, the French toast was really good and I loved the warm syrup.
