My wife and I went on newbie night, showed up after 9 pm and left immediately after the mandatory tour. Paid $80, despite their website saying entry would be $50 and spent less than twenty minutes inside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The facility is designed like a carnival fun house, is very dimly lit, overbearing music, was so filthy, the poor lighting couldn't hide it, and smelled of stale cigarette smoke, akin to having a ashtray strapped to your face, mold and mildew throughout.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dress code was absolutely not enforced, and meant nothing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Despite clear rules against any play happening near food or beverage areas, this was not enforced. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ratio of single men to women was roughly 20 to 1, and each and every one of them had that disturbing, unsettling predatory stare.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The owners room names were joiked at by staff as clever, and not to be taken literally, were in poor taste. First impression of staff after that comment is that they're unhappy with management. Shame on the owners and the staff for continuing to keep this third world brothel in business. Have higher standards. Shame on the city of Portland health inspectors for allowing food and liquor to be served in this establishment. I attended this club for the first time expecting a safe and well-managed experience. Instead, I ended up physically incapacitated after participating in an electroplay demo offered by one of their vendors. There was no waiver, no safety briefing, no warning of risks, just a vendor offering hands-on play without any screening or consent process. I became extremely dizzy, nauseous, lost vision and hearing, and had to leave the event early. My partner had to help carry me out. The vendor never checked in, even though I was visibly slumped over just feet away from him. Afterward, I reached out to the club multiple times to share what happened. It took several follow-ups just to receive a generic, impersonal response with no apology, no accountability, and no clear indication that anything would change. This event was expensive, and I left feeling unsafe, ignored, and disappointed. Great pool tables, wonderful upstairs bar staff, dance floor is amazing and the bar staff on main floor keeps us happy while the dj plays so many great dance hits, and all the rooms in between. I am a disabled person with a wheelchair, who enjoys getting out into the community and meeting new people, so I went out to the Velvet Rope with my staff to give it a try. A couple things tipped us off that something was weird; the aggressively gendered pricing and double-standards in their dress code made it feel like the space does not acknowledge or honor the nuances in gender identity and expression, and that femme bodies are expected to be on display and commodified to higher-paying masculine patrons (which are things my staff can confirm from their own experiences). That was just from the website, so not to a great start. However we were aware of the longevity of the space, which gave us hope that they have taken steps to address issues and make strides to be as accessible as possible, so we still decided to go. In previous spaces, my staff would be able to get in free, or at least discounted, due to them not playing while on shift, and that their presence is to cover my care needs. This was not allowed, so we had to sign up as a "couple," which you may imagine has weird implications. But We signed up for the year, as it wouldn't have made much difference if we just paid for the night. We were discussing the parameters of the space with the staff and how it might compare to experiences in other similar spaces, and some weirdly stringent rules started to pop up immediately. First, usually once we are settled my staff will usually give me my privacy to enjoy the adult nature of the space. We were informed first that they must be within eyesight of me at all times, but it was soon amended to not leaving my side. This was odd, as we were happy to work with staff to make this happen however possible, but the idea was shut down no questions asked. We were determined to be flexible, so we agreed, but it didn't take long for the next thing to come up. I use my own cup for accessibility reasons, which I was told was forbidden according to the OLCC (which I have since found out does make exceptions for disability tools, and at the time I had never been held to this in other 21+ spaces). This made me feel like a burden, but there can be a learning curve to entering any new community and we were happy to work with them as long as they return the favor... I tried to make it clear to staff there that if there was any problem they can come to me first, but they would wait until my staff stepped out to use their phone and inform them so they'd have to come back and inform me. It got to the point that they couldn't even tell me to my face that I wasn't wanted there. My staff was told that TVR was within their rights to refuse service (they're not if their only reason is my disability, as that violates discrimination law). When asked why, they first said they couldn't accommodate me, or "take care" of me due to lack of staff. They don't have to take care of me. I have staff. "Well we can't be liable for him." Then what are the liability waivers we just signed for? "It doesn't work that way." And, as of 2 weeks after the incident, I have still not been reimbursed as they promised. I implore anyone with disabilities and their allies to avoid The Velvet Rope at all costs, it is not a safe place for all, as it fails at basic inclusivity read more

Sooo... wow... where do I begin with this place honestly haha. This place is literally just a hub for old single guys hoping to get their dingalings wet and didn't help we came on a Sunday which was advertised as one of their fun nights considering it was gang bang night which we didn't see much of any gang banging unless you count something we saw in the couples area (also this so called "couples" only and single ladies area is such a joke hahah; the rooms are so cramped and look like run down motel rooms with some of the decor literally falling off the wall.) This place needs to seriously be remodeled though. It feels like a blast from the past with its layout and tacky decorations not to mention the rooms which previously mentioned I've seen better in a crack house back in Compton California where I'm from hah. I will say they did try their best to offer a place where one can come and explore and have fun with their sexuality but the fact that they dont limit the amount of men who can come in (which in all honesty I think they allow so they can make a profit considering it's mostly just old dudes that show up to this place; hardly any couples and hardly anyone around my age range 21-30) which is a bad idea if you ask me. We met another couple there who were there for their first time and they also felt the weird vibe that's offered at this establishment. Luckily they told us about this other adult members only club called Club Privata which I had seen positive reviews for but opted out to give this place a dying chance (big mistake/regret) so if anything we will definitely be checking out that place next even if it is a little pricier then TVR but like they say you get what you paid for. Also they limit the amount of single guys who are allowed to come in to 10 and they charge them a higher entrance fee too! As it should be if you ask me haha because literally the ratio to women there was at least 1 to every 10 guys maybe more not exaggerating we walked into the "gang bang" room where they had pornography playing on a projector screen type deal and it was nothing but old guys sitting shoulder to shoulder waiting for a willing person or woman I should say to helplessly walk in. YES , so if we don't like the VR we can get a refund ? The men to women ratio was proportionate, a lot were actually couple. The owner was super nice (Matt) and have a a good deal because we can't in a group.. The only negative is there are different floors which means stairs so wear flats (Lol) and it can get a little confusing if your not used to it but things are well marked. This venue has always had issues regardless of ownership, but it's really gone downhill the last couple years. I have attended clubs like this for years and rarely found one so crappy, lackluster, and poorly run. Here are somethings you SERIOUSLY NEED TO WORK ON! Customer Service: Last night we paid $24 for Long Islands that clearly had no alcohol in them, just tasted like soda.The bartender hid the drinks under the counter as she made them so we couldn't see what was going in them. A few weeks before we had gotten drinks here and it was a much better experience. I approached the bartender to possibly remedy the crappy drinks in a very nice way and the response I got was "Well, what do you want to do about it?" No offer to correct the issue, only another $8 charge to add a shot to each drink. $34 for two drinks that barely tasted like they had alcohol in them. I should have asked for my money back. Food: The food here is consistently horrible. Even if you arrive earlier on in the evening the food is overcooked and looks like it's been out forever. Or it's all gone by 10 and never refilled. Just don't offer food if it's that hard for you to provide decent food that won't make people sick. Security: There are no dedicated people working security to make sure that women feel safe here. We were approached/followed around by a creepy guy for quite a while last night and he could not take the hint that I wasn't interested. I am able to say I'm not interested, and I did. But it would have been nice if a staff member had been around to see his jumpy, creepy vibe affecting people and done something about it. He continued to try and engage with me and put his dick in my range of vision multiple times after I made it clear I wasn't interested. Cleanliness: After more than 20 visits over the last couple years, I have NEVER seen volunteers or staff members walking through the club to ensure that things are being kept clean, or that sheets and towels were restocked. Shelves are usually empty. A sign stating when the hot tub was last cleaned would make me more likely to want to sit in it. Theme Nights: Why have a themed evening like Prom Night or Beach Party if you don't encourage your staff or customers to dress up and/or participate. You need to do better at providing an exciting themed environment with music/decorations/drinks to match your theme. Or just don't do it at all. It doesn't count to just post it online. NO SEX! This isn't necessarily the fault of the owners and staff, but I think the crappy environment is part of the issue. We rarely see people actually having sex here. Rarely there will be a gangbang situation or a couple having some fun in the couples area. Most of the time tho it's just people walking around staring at each other. read more
