I didn't love it. My tamal was still frozen in bits of the middle (thourgh the warm parts were tasty and the portion was large). Oh by the way, the portions are comically large. This is the place I always order from whenever I'm craving Spanish food. I've never dined in here before but if the food from delivery is awesome, I'm sure dining there is even more awesome. Delivery is also fast, usually comes within 30 minutes after I call. I always get the Bandeja Paisa because it has everything in it - grilled steak, maduro, chicharron, avocado, 2 eggs, rice and beans. Generous portion - it's 2-3 meals for me and totally worth it for $15.00. Super reasonable prices, when you take into account the HUGE portion sized (easily 2-3 meals out of each entree I ordered - depending on a person's appetite). The food arrived very quickly, and was definitely fresh and delivered right after being made, because the over medium eggs on the one dish were still nice and semi-runny when it arrived (IMPRESSIVE!). The Bandeja Paisa was delicious, especially the pork skin. Rice done just right (TONS of the stuff). TONS of steak given, too....though it was a bit chewy. This is pretty typical Hispanic food. It doesn't just feel like a Spanish restaurant; it *is* a Spanish restaurant. One of the waitresses doesn't speak English (Natalie D. said one of the waitresses was a bitch face, but I find that hard to believe; the people here are very friendly. I think Natalie D. mistook "not speaking English" for being a bitch). Jesse N. characterizes this restaurant as being "legit". That's absolutely correct. Appetizer ======= Tamal: B- This is the type of tamale which is wrapped in the banana leaf. Nice flavor, but *much* too dry. When one is steamed in a banana leaf, there is no excuse for one to not be moist. The masa was dry and the chicken filling was dry. They give you marinated onion/tomato salsa to mitigate the dryness, but they didn't give enough, and even if they did, it would still be dry. Sopa ==== Caldo De Bola: A- Beef and plantain soup. I was always under the impression that caldo was a thin soup (both with and without "stuff" in it), like a broth or Jewish chicken soup. This was the exact opposite. The soup was tremendously Thick with a capital T. It's called bola ("ball") because the soup comes with a big ball of plantain with chopped up beef in it (kind of like Dominican mofongo). My wife says this soup is an A, but I consider it A- because whenever I think of Hispanic soup, I think of my wife's soups, and I've never had soup better than her soup (ironic side note: she also makes the best matzoh ball soup I've ever had). If my wife's soup is perfect, then this soup is very nearly perfect. Colombian Dishes =============== Entraña Asada: A- This is a grilled skirt steak. Nicely marinated, very tasty. I've always found Spanish steaks to be tough and inexpertly marinated/cut, but this steak was softer than typical for entraña. It's accompanied by rice and beans, both of which are excellent. My only complaint is that there should've been more beans given the amount of rice. read more

Wow, I usually don't take chances on places with so few Yelp reviews if I can find something better, but I was perusing Sandro's menu on Seamless, and couldn't resist. I am SO glad I ordered from here. Not only did the food come quickly, it was piping hot and fresh, and tasted GREAT. I ordered the arroz con pollo (chicken with rice) and it was so good. The portion was HUGE. I only ate about 1/3 of the bowl, and I'm so excited to eat it again in the next few days. The rice had a ton of flavor and there are onions, chicken, and bell peppers in every bite! It also comes with an avocado which adds to the great flavor, and also there is a whole plantain-- and it was GREAT. So warm, so tasty, and amazing. Also-- Do NOT forget to get extra dressing/sauce on the side, it makes for a great addition to the already great flavors and pushes it over the edge! YUM. Also, the dish goes GREAT with a side order of beans (also huge portions). I loved my order from here and am so excited to find yet another amazing restaurant in Astoria. I ordered the Carne de res Guisada (Beef stew served with rice, sweet plantains, salad and avocado). It was delicious and the portions were huge! I couldn't even eat the whole thing in one sitting. i been here solo about 3 times and the food is ok overall as prices are fair and portions are more then average. place is not that spacious but they are able to squeeze about 10 tables side to side . tv overhead showing spanish programs while i enjoy rice and beans with chicken stew or breaded chicken with a mix salad .the girl behind the counter is the same gal who takes your order and brings it to you as well. its more of a latin/spanish south american menu flavor via beef, chicken, pork , shrimps dishes with a few american bits in the mix. i tend to order the same thing during my visits so i cant really comment on everything but i have ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and empanadas for take out a few times and overall its not bad . sandros is another good food joint in astoria that deserves a try when you want a change from greek grub. 3.5 stars on my yelp meter. read more

I always order the same thing, so I can't say much about all the food... though the first time I came with my family and we all ordered something different, we all loved it, and the price was astounding. We order our arroz con pollo when we don't feel like cooking, we don't want to spend much, and we want something tasty that will provide leftovers. The food here is so delicious. Prices are great and you get very large portions. I had a little bit of everyone's meal when we were here on Saturday night. This place was AWESOME!! We were deciding what to eat because we were craving such food but didn't know where to get from; we always try and order something new. When we came across this place it was a very easy decision to make. We ordered it through grubhub and the delivery was very fast and the food was piping hot when we received it. We were EXTREMELY happy with the food. I ordered the pernil and it came with rice and beans, plenty of food and have lots of leftovers. I also ordered the tostones and the bolon with the chicharones...DELICIOUS! He ordered the bistec a caballo and he was very pleased. He also had the maduros as well as a banana shake. Overall we were very impressed with our dinner and will definitely be ordering again to try new things. They have a very big variety of both colombian and ecuadorian dishes. read more

The hubs and I are big fans of the place. We prob order from here abt once a week. Can't go wrong with the roasted chicken...super tender, juicy, and falls off the bone. Reminds me of the way El Malecon used to be- up in Washington Heights. Salad and sides are always fresh. I like that they're not cheap with their salad and they put stuff in it, instead of it just being chopped iceberg. I hate when places do that. You can't go wrong paying $12 or $14 (i forget) for a whole chicken, rice, beans, and salad. We've also had their steak w/onions & peppers, the pork and a bunch of other stuff. It's basically as good as what you get in Corona or Jackson Heights without having to make the trek on the 7. Good Spanish comfort food that tastes homemade. Delivery is on point too. It's never taken more than 30mins and we live prob half a mile away. It's always a plus when the person picking up the phone speaks clear English. Wow this must be the best Colombian/Ecuadorian place I have ever been too, the food is amazing, complements on the chef, they must taste everything before it goes out becuase it does not need anything else. We ordered via SeamlessWeb. Here's my notes: 1. Bring the food to the door - don't just call from the sidewalk and say you're downstairs. 2. "Dressing on the side, please." means please put the dressing on the side, and we'd like the salad with nothing on it: no oil, no vinegar, nothing. 3. Cut around the cartilage in the pork. At least, I assume that crunch was cartilage. 4. If the sandwich doesn't fit in one square of foil, feel free to use two. If you only use the one, you run the risk of the sandwich opening up in the bag while in transit and getting all over the other contents. Trust me. 5. Use hairnets. I'd really prefer your hair stayed on your head and not in my wife's salad. I did, after all, ask for "Dressing on the side, please." We won't be ordering from here again. If I could give this place a ZERO I completely would! For starters my review is for their restaurant service, my husband and I walk into the restaurant none of us are greeted at the door. The ONE waitress that is there appoaches our table and instead of being nice she gives us An attitude, That immediately turn my smile into a frown. My husband gets a typical Colombian dish and I get the ceviche. By the way this place is not Colombian so don't be fooled by what you read in the other reviews. This is an Ecuadorian place with Colombian dishes. The presentation when the food arrives is perfect. Everything looks very appetizing. However I can't say the same for when you take that first bite. The food has no flavor, no salt and extremely greasy. My husband and I were very unhappy. I literally left my whole plate on the table. Completely untouched! When the server returned to our table which was at the end by the way, because they only have one worker on a Saturday afternoon, she didn't once ask me if everything was OK with my food, instead she said did you want to take your ceviche home, I said no I did not like it, hence why it is all here on the table. She Rolled her eyes and said OK and snatched it off the table. My husband had another dilemma, not only did she not bring the silverware but the plate was filled with food and spinning on top of the table. Hello have you ever heard of tablecloth's, you guys desperately need them. His plate was spinning on the table while he was trying to cut the meats on his plate. We will definitely not return to this unsanitary, impolite, and atrocious food restaurant. Beware!!!!!! The moist cloths they give you at the end of your visit smell like CRAP! So this place opened about a month or so ago (and from doing a quick Yelp search this seems to have the same owners of Sandro's pizza, although I haven't confirmed it for myself) and I just tried it tonight and.... OMG I've fallen in love with an Arepa. As in, Bogota in Park Slope serves up some of my most favorite Latin food but Sandro's Arepa ($1.50!!) takes the cake. My boyfriend and I fought over who was going to have the last bite, that good. We also had some plantains, which were ok, but I wish they had a touch more flavor. I probably go there at least 3 times a week for their lunch specials. At $6.95 for a homemade soup, an entree w/ rice, and a drink; it can't be beat. There's always 2 soups and 2 entrees to chose from. Sometimes when the lunch specials don't tickle my tummy I order from the menu. Their soups are homemade, flavorful, and delicious. I've look in the back of the kitchen and I see an elderly lady back there cooking. I'm a fan of their Colombian typical platter, goat stew, tripe & potatoes, ceviche, steak and onions, and pernil. I'm not a fan of their Cuban sandwich or roasted chicken. The Cuban sandwich was not pressed to make it crunchy. By the way, there are two foods I crave constantly; latin and hamburgers. I've order in from Sandro's several times and have never had a complaint. The food is very tasty, priced just right, and the portions are rather large. This weekend we decided to go to Sandro's instead. The atmosphere: What I expected, nothing fancy, but cute and comfy. It's not high class, but for the price, I was pleased. The service: The waitresses were very nice. I think there may be a slight language barrier, but I put my embarrassment aside and spoke Spanish, so we were good. I think my girlfriend and I were a little needy that night (hey, it was Friday) but the waitstaff did a great job of getting us everything we asked for, and quickly. The food: Yum. I truly enjoy the food here. I got the carne asada (although it may go by a different name, I can't remember), maduros, and empanadas. She got the Churrasco Ecuatoriano. It was served with fries, rice, salad, and beans...all for $12. The empanada is good. It is not as good as some of the empanada only places, but it had a nice flavor. The carne asada was delicious; well seasoned and juicy. I love their beans, and maduros, man, I don't see how you can wrong with rice, beans, and maduros. The portion was huge! Her dish was also very tasty, served in a brown sauce. The only thing I didn't like about her dish was the cilantro, but that's more of a flavor issue for me than anything else. The fries were delicious, and we gobbled it all down. Overall this is a restaurant that you get more than what you pay for. Yup, definitely the same owner as Sandro's Pizza near Crescent - same exact gaudy designs and awful pictures. But don't be deterred by the awful pictures! The price is right, and the food is wonderful. The portions are ENORMOUS - I ordered the chuletas and my husband got the arroz con pollo, we both had enough leftovers to take to work for lunch the next day. Food is flavorful, delicious, stuff that's usually overly greasy elsewhere (fried plantains, for example) is nice and fresh here. When you first look in - you are like no way this place is going to blow me away - trust me when I say looks are so deceiving.   This place may be small but the giant enormous portions of mouth-watering delicious authentic Spanish cuisine so makes it an amazing place to eat.  Also delivery is always super quick, and every single member of the staff I have encountered is super friendly, courteous and beyond nice and wanting to please.   For food choices try the Breaded Steak, Bandeja Paisa or the empanadas or just anything on the menu trust me - everything is delicious. To offer one thing that maybe they can work on a little - make the French Fries a little bit crispier - I like crispy Fries other than that this place is a dream come true to get food palette thanking you for the rest of the night.  I hope this place stays for a long time - it is always my go to place when I want to order for delivery or just to go and pick up if I am craving something. Went there with the husband last night for some ceviche after getting the Yelp newsletter on ceviches in Queens. First off, this place would be so much more pleasant if the waitress didn't have such a b*tch face, and a personality to match. Moving on to the reason I came, the ceviche! I had the ceviche de camarones y pescado (shrimp and fish) and a side order of rice. The portion was massive, but unfortunately the flavor was lacking. Anyone who has eaten ceviche before knows that the liquid is typically all lemon/lime. This liquid was reddish in color, and lacked almost any tang at all. Upon tasting it, I realized that it had almost no salt, and the red color was due to ketchup. I really prefer ketchup used as a condiment - NOT an ingredient. Another thing I did not like was that the pieced of fish were cut into tiny cubes. The texture was pretty strange and they were gray. On a more positive note, my husband had the fried tilapia, and said it was good. Other diners had lomo saltado and it smelled heavenly. I will definitely that and the arroz chaulafan next time, because yes, I will give them another try. read more

Been dying to try the food here ordered the Chaulafan its a mixed rice with pork, chicken, shrimp, veggies served with a sweet plantain. I also ordered a side of beans thats just the latin in me. I must say it was delicious sorta reminded my of fried rice but much better tasting. The portion was huge, the shrimp in the rice were cooked perfectly. Nice to know that I can now feed that Spanish craving without breaking my budget ala El Couqi which I love but now I have a place alot closer and alot cheaper. read more
