This place is a great small town bistro! The ice cream is great! The last time i went i ordered the turkey and cheese, and i will say that you should steer clear of it. I was shocked since it was hot and the turkey had bubbles in it which was sort of unappetizing, but all the other food that i have tried has been great! The food does take a while to come out considering how packed this place can get, and the people serving are usually pretty friendly, although not very talkative. 1 star because the fries are awesome! Years ago I came here and the burgers were banging!!! I took my husband today to try it and he got a burger and loved it but i tried the steak and cheese. 13 bucks for barely any meat for a 12 inch sub (got to share with my daughter) and all the meat fit on half of a 6 inch and Im not even sure there was any cheese on it ‍. Ssoooooo dry. No seasoning. Awful. So sad. Just stick to burgers read more

This little sandwich and ice cream shop is pretty basic with orange seats. The ice cream was delicious and a great value. My Cobb salad had no tomatoes or eggs, but it was good. My friend ordered a loaded hamburger with mayo on one part of bun and mustard on the other. It came with nothing on it but mustard. When reported to the waitress, she was a bit surly- maybe a bad day. The prices were reasonable. I would suggest that the restaurant check the water from the soda fountain because it was brown. read more

10/10 This is the "back in the day" style burger and milkshake kinda vibe place. All different economic brackets, ages and ethnicity's eating side by side with no issues because the food and atmosphere is THAT chill!! This was my first time and I will definitely be back! We got a steak and cheese, chicken steak and cheese, 2 single cheese burgers and made all 4 combos, which is fries and drinks. It was all hot and delicious and perfect sized portions. It was less than $60. They do have several kids meals but not a burger kids meal so we got the single cheeseburgers. They were on big fluffy buns that looked and tasted fresh made. Sooo good!!! . Then the ice cream. Ohh boy!!! Hershey's real ice cream! and they had a lot of cool flavors I'd never even seen.. I'd guess maybe @25-30 different flavors and the scoops are HUGE! Sorry we didn't take pictures because we were so excited to eat it all. lol. . The owner was busy the entire time but kept smiling and saying thank you to everyone. The cashier guy was super friendly and gave some great recommendations and was scooping ice cream between customers. The staff never stopped moving and was smiling the whole time. We were there for about 2 hours (waiting for a flight) and the place never slowed down, non stop steady customers, but the staff is super fast!! 10/10 for a solid little family owned ice cream/retro style burger hop kinda joint... definitely not a Bistro style place. lol. Second visit. First was months ago. The first trip was awesome! Had the lamb gyro, it was full and tasty and amazing for the price. I was so impressed. Today I went back. I tried to call in my order but the line was unavailable. When i got there, the place was busy and I knew the wait would be long, and it was. I get that and have no problem with the wait. I was very impressed wth how the counter person kept things going so calmly. I waited. No problem. Here's the problem, I ordered the rib eye sandwich, all the way. It was not good. The meat was small and flavorless, the roll was way too much. It was not worth the wait. I'll go back but ONLY for the gyro. read more

It's a tiny little shop, seems to be family-owned. They've got a wide range of items on the menu and the prices are fair. I ordered the Giant Bacon Cheeseburger with fries and a side of cheese sauce. The burger wasn't anything fancy, but that's the good thing about it. It was just a solidly good ol' burger. 10/10! And the touch of cheese on the side for my fries - again, nothing out of the ordinary but was just an overall good cheese fries side. My wife ordered the Greek salad, which was a bit on the smaller side for the price, but it was good. I had more than enough fries to split with her. My oldest ordered wings and fries. The wings were ordered plain and he didn't mind. The chicken was moist and flavorful. I should know because I took a bite. It didn't need to be hidden behind any sauces or dips. Ok this place was packed on a Saturday and driving home I had to stop and see what the hype was all about. We had eaten dinner and decided to go for ice cream! I had the fudge brownie ice cream which was Ah..mazing and my boyfriend created his own ice cream combo and my son had a rainbow ice cream! We were all satisfied. I so happy I stumbled across this cute little bistro. It's nestled in the heart of Sandston, and I would have never found it. This place stays pretty busy and I see why. I went to buy milkshakes and ended up getting a cheeseburger and fries too. All of it was super tasty. The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection. The fries were hot and just crunchy enough. Found this place on Yelp after leaving the highlands games at Dorey Park. I didn't even read the menu first, we just went. How could you go wrong with burgers & shakes. There's not much to the ambiance but it seemed ok.... It reminded me of our much loved Dumars in Norfolk (minus the drive up ordering) ... plenty of seating. It fairly busy just a few min after arriving. There was so much on the menu to choose from. I settled on a lamb gyro and my friend had a grilled cheese & fries. Everything tasted great. The pita for my gyro was fresh and soft and slightly warm. It was stuffed with just the right amt & delicious Tzatziki sauce. My friend's grilled cheese was perfectly toasted & the fries were oh so yummy. There were two full cases of ice cream flavors to choose from. This little shop is always busy due to the large selection of ice cream and food items they carry. The inside looks just how you think it will when you go in. Now let's talk about the food because the Cheese Steaks are amazing so much flavor in them and the toppings are fresh. I will say if you get the 6in go ahead and buy the 12 because you will want to eat more of it. My wife loves the Chicken Gyro minus the onions but she tells me the chicken is always perfect on it. I've lived in RVA for 5 years now and have never been to Sandston Bistro before this, now I see why. It's a little 1950's meets Easter egg hunt looking building with hospital televisions tuned to the religious channels which is fine but, you're a business that serves the public, some of which are non-religious. This may turn non-religious customers away, depending on their views on religion itself. Also, it's kind of ironic that the older guy with glasses and mustache who I'd assume to be a manager or the owner, had the religious channels on TV. I say this because the way he talks to his staff is absolutely disgusting. He was being very rude and condescending towards the one cashier girl with dirty blonde brownish hair and glasses. Other customers nearby perked up from their food or quickly finished eating and left once they noticed the way she was being spoken to. I even heard a guy mutter "here we go again" under his breath. Never going back solely because of how this guy treats his staff, especially when there's patrons within earshot. read more
