We went to Sandy's today and had a great brunch! Place was crowded, so we ended up waiting a while for a table. Since NJ is mandating outdoor seating only right now, we waited for seating under the tent. I could see lots of people picking up to go orders while we waited. Always a good sign. I had Eggs Benedict, my son had pancakes (delicious and huge portion), my daughter had the fried chicken with fries, and my Mom had the creamed chipped beef on toast. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Wait staff was very accommodating and pleasant. Patrons were crabby while waiting for tables, but what do you expect when you are waiting to eat at a good place, under a tent with limiting seating during CoVID. Good job, Sandy!!! read more

Also, we visit quite often, but will not return. 32 degrees, outside, colder inside. Constant running a/c or fan while running ceiling fans, at top speed. Most of customers, mainly elderly people, have to leave coats and jackets on while eating. During summer months, a/c runs at top temp. Owner has complete disregard to customers while hand shaking richer looking customers. On top of all this, owner discontinues lemonade from menu which is safe beverage than water served. Loved this place !! The decor is adorable ("Queen of the kitchen" spoon set, signs with cute sayings like "Friends gather here"). You can even purchase similar decor and tchotchkes in front of the restaurant. Both servers who we dealt with were agreeable and very accommodating. Now, on to the food! My husband and I both ordered open faced sandwiches. These sandwiches come with vegetable, mashed potatoes, and choice of soup or salad (12.95). We both got the seafood bisque- delicious and satisfying. We chose pickled beets as our veg - not something we usually eat, but those were delicious too. The amount of meat on our sandwiches was plentiful-- the gravy tasted great . Our only issue was that the mashed potatoes didn't taste homemade. They were okay. I would've liked choice of mashed or baked potato . We noticed signs up for live entertainment that night too. Sandy's is definitely a local gem - so glad that I finally tried it. There is a real Sandy that owns and runs "Sandy's Cozy Corner". My weekend does not begin without visiting Sandy's. I have only lived in the area a very short time but found that Sandy's corner has brought to me that familiar coziness that I love and has made me feel like I have been visiting there for years. Her food is fresh and delicious and her staff is super attentive, just like Sandy. She even has a corner of cute mementos, that she sells at her restaurant. This is the ONLY restaurant in or near Whiting that I go to regularly. I love the big breakfast plates, BLT's and the friendly professional waitresses. The decor is kinda vintage funky which I like. Don't miss the train running around the ceiling. Check their hours on the website. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. "10 or more year experienced ONLY", "never complains about the heat, the work or the money" In the Covid era where so many people have lost their jobs this "job posting" is disgusting. 10 years experience to serve eggs at a rinkydink mom & pop breakfast joint, are you kidding me? Gordon Ramsey's restaurants don't required that level of experience. In a time where everything is outdoor dining & requiring masks to demand employees "not complain" about working is 90 degree heat with 87% humidity making shit money & terrible tips is heartless. Sandy is essentially saying shut up, be grateful I've allowed you to work here, now get out there and go make my business money. Are you kidding me? We dined here on Father's Day, the waitresses all wore masks, didn't complain, & were wonderful. Sandy however, didn't find it necessary to wear a mask herself. Hypocrisy at its finest. That is the perfect name for this spot because it is cozy - not a bad cozy though, more homey. I walked in around 2pm and it was full of people, but the service was still good. I got a chicken pot pie (5 stars- fantastic!) and a cup of chicken noodle soup (3 stars - would've been great, but it was WAY too salty for my taste) to warm my thin Florida blood on a cold, snowy day. This is my second go to! I wish all of their meals included the home fries, that's why JB's Diner is my #1 go to lol but I do enjoy this place! In the Fall they have pumpkin spice pancakes and they are delicious! Also love their home fries. The onions just make them perfect! There is always a line of people but they move quickly! We just had a dreadful experience. First, when arriving we were told there was a 15-20 minute wait, which was not the case, we waited for over 50 minutes for our table. Had the staff been up front with how busy they were we would have gone to Lakehurst Diner. Once we were finally seated, our waitress was rude. Rolled her eyes when I added bacon to my order. We had to wait another half hour for our food that came out sporadically. First they brought my husband and mother in laws food. A few minutes later came mine all while we are waiting for my 7 year olds food. I ended up having to feed her half of My omelet because she was so hungry. When her food finally got there she barely touched it. Our waitress never smiled or checked on us. Never once did anyone ask me if I needed a drink refill.
