I moved to Pacifica (across the street from Firestone) in 1999. Since the shop was across the street I began using Sanford Firestone. Then I moved to Walnut Creek for a couple of years, disliked the city immensely, and moved to Daly City, again across the street from Sanford's shop. Needless to say I began using them again. These guys are great, they're professional, courteous, wonderful sense of humor, and get the job done at the time they said it would be done. They have taken care of my tires, fixing and or replacing them and balancing. Today they replaced a tire in record time and this is why I go to Sanford's. They suck!! They are over priced, and they take took long on simple services. I had my transmission serviced by them a couple of years ago, and I've come to find out that instead of putting transmission fluid, they put in motor oil. Anybody that knows should know the difference especially since they are two different colors!!! Transmission fluid is red and thick, and motor oil is a brownish color. Guess which one was found in the transmission pan?? Yup motor oil!! So yes my transmission went out on me thanks to these people!! They don't even deserve a star!! read more

Went in today expecting to do business. Needed some new tires & asked Jon 'what's the best deal he can give me.' Threw me a surprisingly high price, so I walked out & he offered me $100 lower which was much more competitive. Did not like the fact he was trying to get over on me but then again business is business, right? I took mine's elsewhere and got a much better deal down the street at Serramonte Firestone. Terrible Shop! Put my 1979 Trans Am in for a smog pump and belt, they told me the state computer evap test was down .... day after day, finally on the 5th day I threw a fit and asked if they could take it next door to get smogged. They couldn't, it was against their liability...the smog shop came and got it and it didn't pass. They couldn't fix it as they were a test only shop. Firestone wasted 5 days and I'm pissed. I took my Mini here last year to replace a run-flat tire that had been punctured. I had gone to the Firestone at Serramonte and was less than wowed over with their service, specifically that they didn't tell me that it was possible to insure run-flats (they supposedly can't be patched like a regular tire... more on that later). A few of my other tires had worn in an unusual manner. Firestone said it was because the car had needed an alignment, and that they needed replacing. More on that later too. In addition to replacing the tires Sanford Firestone said my brake pads were worn and needed replacing. O.k. After the brakes were repaired my flat tire light continued to come on. I took the car back in but they couldn't figure out what had gone wrong and recommended that I take it to one of their friends. Since their friend was only open weekdays from 9 to 4, I took it to a mechanic I trust in Marin. Turns out that Sanford Firestone had broken the flat tire sensor while fixing the brakes. The cost out of my pocket to repair this was $300. They also told me that Minis need a four wheel alignment and that Sanford had only done a two wheel alignment. That was another hundred bucks. Fast forward to a year later. My tires are scalloping again for some reason. My mechanic in Marin does a diagnostic and tells me this is because my bushings are uneven, causing uneven wearing on the tires. So I need to replace the tires I bought a year ago. These tires are not cheap ($225 plus each). Now, it's not Sanford Firestone's fault my bushings were uneven. But they didn't bother to check this as a possible cause and assumed that the fault was my wheels hadn't been aligned (while they themselves did an improper alignment). They also misinformed me that run-flats cannot be repaired; my tire people in Marin told me that they could patch a run-flat 60% of the time unless it was printed on the tire that it couldn't be (this was NOT the case). So ultimately between their busting my flat-tire sensor, selling me tires when my old one could be patched and not bothering to check the bushings (resulting in my tires needing replacing a year later) I was out over $1,000 because of their shoddy service. I do not recommend you take your car here. Regarding the reply written by John S. Sanford: My TPMS system damaged by running a flat tire? This is something new. It seems to contradict the purpose of having run flat tires. My other mechanic (Mellow Motors in Marin) told me that my TPMS was probably damaged by ineptness caused by your brake job. I remember that you used your $1200 scanner and were unable to find out what was wrong with my system, which was when you recommended me to another garage. As far as being never satisfied: I am VERY satisfied with H & J tires in Marin, who sold me by replacement set of tires. Rather than waiting for a yelp review to explain proper tire maintenance to me they set up a FREE 4,000 mile rotation for the life of the tires that is included in the purchase price. Sanford is one of the last honest car repair and tire shops in the Bay area. They gave us a great price on 4 new tires. Chris and team also called and advised on alignment before they did any of the work. Of course we needed alignment, never had new tires on the truck. I love going to this shop! The front desk is always there with a smiling face to help you as soon as walk in. Been coming to this shop for 5 years and they always fix whats wrong, and go above and beyond to warn me about future risks with my car. They encourage the job to be finished, but do not force work the on you. They always called to let me know how my car was doing, and this allowed me to plan accordingly. With no car, the staff even offers rides back and forth to their shop so you don't have to sit in their waiting room. Pretty sure this applies to only surrounding areas ( Pacifica, Daly City, San Bruno), but you can always call and ask if you need more information. Family owned and ran and there all there to help. The owner John is very straight forward and honest about the issues with your car. His cheerful son Chris, very polite and helped me choose the correct tires for my car. Anyone who objects to their outstanding service is outrageously wrong. The staff is there to help YOU, and remember that getting your car fixed is costly no matter what. They give you estimates on the needed work to your car, but never perform work without YOUR approval. Overall, the best shop in Pacifica. I called on a Thrusday afternoon inquiring about 4 tires for my car. Rich, one of the staff members, told me that he or somebody would call me back on Friday regarding getting a quote on my tires because their computers were down. So he took down my number and the tire sizes I needed for my car. Friday comes and goes. I had no phone calls regarding my tires. I called them back on Saturday morning and spoke with Rich again and explained to him that nobody returned my call regarding my tires on Friday. He later proceeds to tell me that he did not work on Friday and apologized for the situation. He remembered who I was and what tires I needed. I was able to get a quote and get my tires done within the same day. Rich even threw in a free alignment, which I thought was very nice. Most places charge you extra for the alignment. I left a satisfied customer! I liked the customer service that Rich gave me over the phone and in person. When I had additional questions or concerns, he was able to answer them. He did not make me feel stupid for asking these questions. He was very patient and friendly answering my questions. 3 stars because they did not call me back regarding my questions; otherwise, I would have given them a 4 star rating. read more

Bad customer service. After making an appointment and showing up on time, was told that it would take about an hour. When I walk back over 40 minutes later my car is still parked in the same spot. Not even a mention when I go to sit down. After 5 minutes I walk over and one of the guys, looks like a manager, says it will be another hour! I explained that a courtesy call would have been nice as I could have run some errands or rescheduled had I known. Then he says, another two hours, as they haven't even started on the other car. We agree with Todd S - Sanford Firestone's techs can perform a simple tire change but they are not a "complete car service" business. The knowledge has gone downhill. The grandson that's running it "Chris" really needs take a hard look at his mechanics/techs. I was very pleased with the service they provided. I needed new tires and talked to Chris who took the time to explain to me the different tires that were available and which ones would be suitable for my car. Also, Richard, who ran the front desk that day was very helpful as well as friendly. Finally, as an added bonus, they were able to identify this annoying sound that I noticed whenever my car was on idle. The dealer was unable to figure out where it was coming from as well as another mechanic I took it too; but they identified the problem--minor hood adjustment-- and fixed it at no cost. read more

I was badly in need of an honest, quality mechanic to do some long-overdue repairs to my 1998 Accord. I knew two people who'd used this place for some very minor things, and both got over the top service from friendly people who treated them as if they were longtime customers even though it was the first visit for each. I, sadly, needed about a thousand dollars worth of repairs, so I can't claim I was in the friendliest mood in dealing with these folks. However, from the moment I walked in, they were warm and friendly and genuine. The only name I got was Christina, who was welcoming and made me feel I was in the right place. Charged me over $400.00 to inspect my vehichle, stated there was nothing wrong, vehicle broke down two days later.....the mechanics are unknowledgable in american cars or the american english language. The reviews here are obviously from friends and family, dont buy into it people, avoid this place at all cost. I was quoted double the the price compared to all other shops I called for front and rear brake pad replacement. I would provide my own brake pads and no rotor replacement. I went once before to get an alignment done and they couldn't because my tie rods needed replacement. They were friendly, no doubt about that, but I recommend getting multiple quotes before going with these guys. read more

if you're looking for customer service, i wouldn't go here. went in for a transmission fluid flush, was quoted $165.00. I'm fine with that and went to eat nearby. When I come back, I am informed that my transmission can't be flushed for some reason. they drained and refilled my transmission anyway without asking me, then tried to charge me $110 for the privilege. manager claimed they tried to call me but my caller I.D. proved that to be a lie. service writer AND manager began trying to blame ME for them not knowing what vehicles they can service with their equipment. for some reason it was my fault for bringing in a car that they couldn't service. i was informed that i should have known they couldn't do it, and that i was being unreasonable for expecting them to know what they were capable of doing (which appears to be very little). when i point out that i didn't approve what they did to the car, they become indignant, and the woman service writer throws my key across the counter at me and begins yelling that the service is free, to just get out of the store. now i'm ok with free service, but what i am not all right with is POOR, DISRESPECTFUL, CONDESCENDING, and INCOMPETENT service. Not the mechanic, he just did what he was told. A freakin' trained monkey could have done what he did. the whole scene degenerated to a name calling session after the manager said to me that, "YOU PEOPLE are always looking for something for free". it was quite to the contrary; we tried to purchase a service. i was even willing to pay them for doing what little they did, i was just hoping that i could get a break on the $7.75 per quart of ATF and 60 dollars labor for cracking open a drain plug, retightening it, then pumping in 7 quarts of bulk oil pneumatically. i could have done this at home on my own for 25-30 dollars or less. i still don't know what they guy thought he was pulling or why he would go to the "you people" thing. at one point he even said to me, "i could have told you that we did do the flush..." like him not doing that somehow justified the attempted gouging they pulled. it's clear what happened here; the mechanic, based on the info given him by the inept service writer, drained the trans fluid before checking to see if they had the proper equipment to flush the transmission of my year, make and model. then, having no choice but to refill my transmission, they tried to pass on the cost of the mistake to me. had i known nothing about cars, i would have likely just paid it without knowing what had just happened to me. however, i spent 20 years in the automotive industry selling parts over the back counter at an auto dealership. that means i sold parts to the service department of the same company i worked for. the things i've seen covered up you would not believe. i was fired once for pointing out to a customer that his vehicle was unsafe to drive as repaired by the service department. my point is, i know a questionable excuse when i hear one. there's more, but i'm sick of thinking about it. read more

I've been bringing all of our family cars here for over 20 years, that's a lot of repair work. I trust John and his employees totally, this is exactly the kind of place you hope you'll find - where you can have a long term relationship that you can trust with the guy who fixes your car. I only remember one time a repair wasn't quite right in all these years, and as soon as they became aware of it they took care of it with sincere apologies - 1 misdiagnosis with all our cars in twenty years is a pretty good record. This morning when I was going to get in my car to go to work I noticed that one of the back tires was flat. I have a mechanic who has been taking care of my car for years but since I was in a rush I had no other option but to look for nearest tire shop. I was lucky to end up at Sanford Firestone in the Fairmont Center where I could get my tires replaced. Chris Pinales was very informative, honest and he did not try to upsell me, instead he did his best to get me the best deal. I never received a call confirming my online appointment. I decided to show up at my appointment time anyway. They were unable to see me but luckily they had a time slot available for 2 hours later. I came back, dropped off my car, and the service was done pretty quickly. Don't book appointments online because it doesn't seem like anyone manages that process but they got the work done that I needed. read more
