I want to start by saying we are not first-time customers here. My family has been coming to this location for years. We have ordered from them countless times, and we have used them for catering on multiple occasions. The woman who usually helps us has always been genuinely kind and helpful. That is exactly why what happened today was so shocking, and why I felt I had to write this. First, the hygiene. The woman at the register was taking orders and handling payment, and then went straight over to the chaat station to make food without changing her gloves or washing her hands. My mother had to ask her directly to please change her gloves. That should not be something a customer has to point out. Then the food. We ordered a dosa. When it arrived, the middle was not cooked -- it was still raw batter inside. We did not make a scene. We simply asked, politely, if they could remake it and cook it through this time. That is a reasonable request at any restaurant. The remake came out worse. It arrived almost completely bare -- barely any filling, essentially just a shell. So we said something, again politely, because the same dish had now come out wrong twice. Instead of an apology or any attempt to fix it, the owner came to our table with an attitude and said, "Make sure you place your order right -- the last couple of times you came in we had to remake your dosa again." He said it as though it proved his point. What it actually proves is that this kitchen has sent us an improperly cooked dosa on multiple visits, and that the owner is fully aware of it. Instead of fixing the problem, he decided the problem was the customer for noticing. From there it escalated. He spoke to my mother in a way that no customer, and certainly no elder, should ever be spoken to. When I started taking photos of the food, he told me not to take pictures. When I told him I would be leaving a Google review, he told me to go ahead, that it did not matter to him. He then turned around and accused my mother of calling him a name -- something she never said. I have photos and video from the visit. He also told us not to come to his restaurant. Long-time, repeat, catering customers, told not to come back over a dish his own kitchen sent out wrong twice in one sitting, and apparently several times before that. We paid in full. We left every plate on the table. We did not eat a bite. I also want to note that I did not come straight to Google with this. I messaged the restaurant directly afterward, explained what happened, and asked for a call. I have received no response at all. So this review is not a first resort -- it is what is left after being ignored. The food here has generally been decent and the staff have always treated us well, which is what makes this so disappointing. This was entirely about how the owner chose to handle a simple, fixable complaint. A remade dosa and a two-word apology would have cost him nothing. Running a restaurant is not only about the food. It is about basic hygiene, and about how you treat people when something goes wrong -- especially women, especially elders, especially loyal customers. If the owner truly believes reviews do not matter, that tells you everything about how much your business is valued here. There are plenty of places nearby that would be glad to have it. read more

Ordering delivery on a Saturday evening from DoorDash was a breeze and took about 45min to arrive. I decided to try the Papdi Chaat and had to go for one of the dosas--I settled on the Spring Dosa. The Papdi Chaat was a tasty appetizer, coming with a smattering of chutneys and yogurts to customize with. Flavorful and fresh--a great starter for 2-3 people. The dosa was the standout though! However, the others were more traditional sit-down restaurants, while this one was an order at the counter kind of place, which was chaotic right up until it closed. What arrived was credibly rendered food with an enormous array of vegetarian choices. My chole with puri was large and perfectly portioned; my fried bread ran out just as the last bite of chickpeas disappeared, and I did appreciate the onion and pickle accompaniment. I've been to Honest a few times now, and honestly, the service is always slow. We ordered the Punjabi Thali, which was decent and arrived within 15-20 minutes. We also got the Masala Dosa, which was pretty good, though the sambar dal was bit too spicy. However, we also ordered Bhaji Pav, and it took nearly 45-50 minutes to arrive. We had to repeatedly check on it, and every time we were told, "5 more minutes." It felt like they had completely forgotten about our order. This isn't a one-off experience--most of the times I've visited, either part of my order is missed or significantly delayed. The restaurant was packed, servers were constantly rushing around, which was making it hard to get their attention. On top of that, they add a 15% service charge to every table, whether or not the service deserves it. The food is good, but the service just doesn't measure up. For parties of five or more adults, they charge a 15% service fee. Essentially, this means you have no choice in where you're seated--even if there are empty tables available. They'll seat each family at different tables especially if you tell them you are to gather but paying separately unless you agree to pay the 15% service fee on every order just to sit together. We were three families with kids dining together, and honestly, their response was absurd. They wouldn't let us join tables or even sit at separate ones close by. Unless you pay the fee upfront, they assign the seating--even though each family is getting a separate bill. What makes this policy so ridiculous is that it punishes groups simply for wanting to sit near each other. The idea that physically sitting together somehow creates extra work for the staff (when bills are separate and orders are taken individually) doesn't hold up. If the tables are available and unoccupied, why not let guests use them? It's not about fairness or service--it feels more like an excuse to charge extra. Of all the Honest chains I've been to (about 7-8 so far) this is my favorite location! Clean, nicely decorated and boy they bring ahmedabad flavors into your plates right away! The Punjabi thaali is HUGE- make sure 2 people are sharing. By far the largest sized Naan/roti comes here. Chaat was extraordinary, Papdi Chaat is massive serving of Papdis which stayed crisp till the end coated in gujarati phenomenal chutneys. Pav Bhaji is superb- authentic goodness in your mouth and the sweet Paan is a delicious finish. Staff is kind, courteous and very helping. Bathrooms were very clean and we were the first customers of the dine-in AM when they had opened. Will return every time we see in Baltimore! read more

Ordered falooda, Hyderabadi biryani and dahi poori. Falooda satisfied my cravings even though it was all mixed up. Dahi poori was good too. But the biryani peeved me. This is a vegetarian restaurant, so the biryani was vegetarian. It was green in color with lots of broccoli. It was flavorful with mint and coconut. I selfishly almost don't want to say too many good things about this spot so that it won't get too crowded when I want to go in, sit down and enjoy a meal. It can appear to some as a bit of a bare bones restaurant styled setting in that there are no wait staff and items like cutlery and napkins are setup as self service but don't let that stop you from sitting and enjoying the meals freshly prepared. The items I've had were very good, some include several paneer dishes - tikka masala, tawa masala, butter, etc., the Hakka noodles which is one of my favorites, the chaat, aloo, bhaji and more. The workers have all been very nice and welcoming and once, while waiting for my takeaway that was only a couple minutes delayed, we were offered an item to enjoy while we waited. It was a small gesture but one that will keep us going back. Since the food ranges from various parts of India so I recommend you try the varieties and mix it up a bit from your ordinary Indian dishes that are served in Baltimore and surrounding areas. A mixed review for our first visit. The ambiance is only fair and will remind you more of a cafeteria than a fine Indian dining experience. There is little service. You order at a counter and then sit yourself. (There are plenty of tables). Runners find you and drop off the main courses. They don't bring you plates or silverware. You are just supposed to know that you have to get your own plates in a service area. Worse, the silverware and napkins are in a container on every table. This is a terrible decision: First, it gives the impression of "the opposite of fine dining". Second, the patrons before you could have handled the silverware or stuffed napkins back into the container. Containers of water are left on every table as well. Definitely off-putting. We saw a young child wonder from their own table to use the water at another table. Another child, a toddler, was allowed to stand ON their table. The prices are not as good as they first seem. While $13-15 entrees are under the norm in the area, the entrees here do NOT come with rice, so plan to add an additional $4+ for each person. The mango lassis are pre-made, and you are directed to get your own plastic cup container from a refrigerator near the counter. Again, not classy, but the drink was good. We started with an appetizer of samosas and they were just OK. They were large and deep fried, but they were over-done and too much hot oil leaked from them as you ate them. We didn't like the outer-shell, but the potato-pea filling was good. The entrees that we had, though, were very good. I had the paneer tikka masala, and it was one of my favorite versions of that particular dish. As everything on the menu is vegetarian, we have a ton of choices, and the food that other patrons were eating looked appetizing as well. This was a great option for me to take my grandparents to. My grandparents are hardcore vegetarians and I think they felt really good about the fact that everything on the menu was vegetarian. No risk of a cook using the wrong spoon or them using a pot that had just had chicken in it. They commented several times how happy they were to have so many vegetarian options too. We all got dosas. I got the chili onion masala dosa. It came with a pretty tasty sambar. I was very happy with the meal. I also got the rose falooda which was delicious. And the size of lime that is served with pavbhaji, should make the world record. It can compete with the size of a pea. Smallest piece you'd ever see. We couldn't even finish the food and asked for take out box, the guy very sarcastically says, the take out boxes are on the other side of the wall and continues "Do you want ME to go there and get it for YOU?"
