I love their banh mi sandwiches here! The people are very nice but they don't speak English well so be patient. You can order to go and then pay and wait or if you want to order and eat there, you sit down whereever you like and they come take your order. What I really like is that they will stay open later than their "closing" hours. They stay open until no more customers. However, they may runout of some menu items so expect that just incase and have a 2nd choice in mind. Their springrolls are 4 for $6 and they are yummy.. especially that peanut sauce! Combo pho is $9 a bowl and man, their broth is so good! Of course their sandwiches are yummy, the sauce, alot of meats and the pickled carrots/radish...just tasty. read more

The food is authentic and great. The service is very friendly. I am pleasantly surprise about the quality of food and price. I ordered soy drink and it was made fresh which is the best soy drink that I ever had. I love to support local, unique and family own business. They may use some help, however the food and wait time is reasonable. I little confusing with the dinning and counter. I thought we have to pick up our own food while I walked and waited for a bit until he told me to take a seat with the menu. read more

A very odd and frustrating lunch. As I see others have stated the ordering process is non existent. There was no one at the counter or even up front, to ask if you sat and ordered or the counter was just for carry-out? I had to wait for several minutes then when I pointed out what I wanted she walked away without letting me also order a Café sua-da to drink. Another person finally saw that I needed something and after several attempts of explaining and pointing she understood what I wanted. I sat down and had my coffee within 2 minutes, which is odd because I usually have to wait for the slow drip process to make a fresh cup; I assume they pre-make them? As I waited for my sandwich, I watched the 1st lady stand and talk on the phone for over 10 minutes, I was getting fairly frustrated, since I assumed my sandwich was finished in the kitchen and waiting for her to bring it to me - it's not that time consuming to make a cold-cut sandwich. After what seemed an eternity she hung up the phone, put on gloves and started making my sandwich from a station in the front of the restaurant. My head explodes at that point, she decided that her phone call was more important than a paying customer, she could of had the other person make the sandwich if it truly was an important call. At this point it could have been the greatest sandwich ever and I wouldn't go back. The sandwich was in fact made with processed meat and large strips of fat. I will continue to support Bun Mee Phan 2 miles south, where they consistently serve a quality product and appreciate your business. I dislike giving 1 star reviews when someone has obviously put money and dreams into opening a business, but that person really needs to re-evaluate their goals and their teams customer service skills. read more

More like sans a clue. This entire experience was a trainwreck. The ordering system (or lack thereof) is so confusing that not even the Vietnamese-speaking patrons ahead of us could figure it out. The sandwich itself was just okay, and I love banh mi. The bread was cold and lacked the crispy exterior I was craving, and the filling was spongy, as it was microwaved. I'm not sure if they are a regional variation, but I didn't care for the addition of cabbage and scallions. Based on the awful ordering experience and sub-par quality of their product, I will not be returning. read more

I really only ever come here to eat their bun bo hue. This place is in the top picks whenever I crave it. Their banh mi's are good too. My only issue is with their service. Some days are better than others but since I've ate here so many times I'm used to it. read more

They don't skip out on any of the fillings- pork loaf, headcheese, pickled veggies, cilantro, jalapeños, pate, some delicious sauce I don't what it is, bbq pork.. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Wonder Sandwiches, Pho, Spring Rolls and Amazing homemade peanut sauce! Very welcoming atmosphere

If the banh mi were top notch, I could overlook the difficulty of the ordering process, and the absurdity of the whole experience. I wanted two #1s, to go. Their menu is comprised wholly of photos of sandwiches next to their corresponding number, and description, which I had previously researched on Yelp. I arrived thinking this was going to be the world's most simple and straightforward transaction. I'm going to walk in, there will be someone standing behind a counter, they'll greet me, ask me if I have any questions about the menu, and I'll say, "Thanks! I think I know what I want... Could I get two #1s to go, please?" Oh, my, no. I walk in, and there are children literally screaming and running around in the restaurant, and there are no employees standing behind a counter waiting to take anyone's order. I'm immediately regretting making the trip to try this new place, serving one of my favorite foods. However, it's also important to support the cultural and culinary diversity I wish were more prevalent in the Northland, so I stand in awkward silence by the counter closest to the door. The one with the cash register, since I'd assume that's the most likely place for an employee to appear. Within a couple of minutes, an elderly woman walks out of the back, and instead of going behind the counter to take my order, she stands in the entryway and just looks at me. So, I say, "I was wanting to get two number ones for carryout." She responds, "You want pho?" I respond, "No. Two number ones. The sandwiches. Banh mi." At that point, I could tell there was a pretty sturdy language barrier between us. She stands there awkwardly for a good 15 seconds, then asks again, "You want pho?" "No, just the sandwiches, please." She then briskly walks to the back kitchen. At this point, I have no idea whether or not I had actually placed what should have been the world's most simple order. A few more minutes have passed, as I'm awkwardly standing near the entryway, while children are running around (not limited to the seating area, but also behind the cold table, and into the back kitchen) screaming, crying, and one was pretending (I think?) to have the dry heaves. I hear the distinct clink of a bowl going into a microwave, as well as the telltale slam of a door. After another couple minutes, I hear "ding!" and the elderly woman brings a bowl of steaming "grilled pork" to a younger woman who has appeared at the front line cold table, along with a pair of baguettes. Looks as if they got my order right after all! The banh mi were bagged up, then handed to the elderly woman, who handed them to me and said, "Eight dollar." The menu price was $4.50 each, so I thought that was a little odd, but I handed her my credit card. I'll take a step back here, and mention that prior to this exchange, I made a concerted effort to find proof that they accepted credit cards, and did find the typical "Discover/Visa/Mastercard accepted here" sticker by their register. The elderly woman said, "You no have cash? Under ten dollar cost too much fee." At this point, I've been waiting for roughly 15 minutes for them to fulfill the only order placed while I've been here. So, I said, "I guess go ahead and make another sandwich? Or just charge me ten dollars?" She handed the credit card to an older man who appeared from the back. He ran off, returned with a receipt for $8 to sign. Later I realized they had kept my credit card. The baguettes were very chewy, without the typical crispness that comes from being quickly ovened prior to being filled. The pickled vegetables were not cut in the typical way for a banh mi (usually they're matchsticks, these were the size of french fries) and there was an addition of cabbage which is atypical. The meat was microwaved rather than freshly-griddled, again atypical of a quality banh mi. I give the sandwich 2.5 stars, because it was okay, but a disappointment in and of itself. I give the establishment itself 1.5 stars, because it's a hot mess, and I don't think they fully understand why. Things you can do to make your business less of a disaster, but not necessarily successful: 1) Establish an ordering process. This is easy. Ever been to a Quiznos? They have a sign that says, "Order Here" and there's a person underneath that sign, waiting to take orders. 2) If you can't yet afford to hire someone with a firm grasp of English, which is completely understandable for a fledgling operation like this, you absolutely must figure out how to streamline the ordering process so there are no misunderstandings. Sushi restaurants have had this figured out for decades: paper menus with check boxes and pencils. 3) You have got to get the children out of there. This is a restaurant, not a daycare. You can't run a restaurant with children running between the front and back of house, screaming, crying, pretending to throw up, and ensuring you'll be forever violating ServSafe standards. read more

Compared to the other restaurants serving Vietnamese banh mi around town, this place is good. Everything I would put on a cha lua banh mi at home - scratch-made mayo, seasoned paté, sliced scallions, cucumber!, pickled radish/carrots, soy sauce, jalapeños, cilantro; they garnish their sandwiches with here. The banh hoi thit nuong special was great too! And unlike a nearby restaurant's nuoc cham, this one didn't taste like water. I could go on and actually critique every little detail about their flavors but what I am certain of, their thit NUONG is actually GRILLED, has that char flavor! Thank you! The only downside is the wait for just a sandwich is a bit long, although the bread is toasted to order, and sandwich is assembled to order. Glad to have you in the Northland! When we heard that food served here was good, we tried our luck. The atmosphere was decent. Since we like to try new places, we order "to go" bun bo hue for two. My mom want to order more, but I said no before coming there. If one thing is bad, the rest is bad. If it is good, then San's is for us. We've waited like usual. Then we paid our order with cash. The cashier said that she doesn't have changes and ask us to donate the changes instead of giving us the correct changes! $0.55 changes and they can't give it us the changes??!! And want us to accept it and just give them a tip for it??!! Ok then. It better be worth it. So we took the "to go" Bun Bo Que to home. First thing we did were to open the containers and smelled soured (it smell like it was spoiled). Found out that the sliced red cabbages have the odor. Both containers have the "spoiled" odor. We threw it away. The broth was ok. Didn't taste any lemon grass. It does have a hint of spoiled taste if you pay attention to it. It could be from yesterdays. I don't know. Meat was ok. Ok, would the "to go" be different from dining there? In our experiences, if we try any method of dining, it shouldn't be any different? Or maybe Bun Bo Hue is not their specialty? Don't believe the negative reviews. If you're coming for delicious food and are willing to wait a little longer on some days, give them a try. My last experience was 10:30 on a Saturday morning, I was greeted immediately, my order taken immediately and quoted a time of 5-10 minutes. While I waited I was offered a glass of water. It took 10 minutes to get my Vietnamese chicken bahn mi and spring rolls as promised. Everything was perfect. It was my first time trying their spring rolls and definitely won't be my last! That peanut sauce-Wow! Also liked that their was both beef (or pork?) and shrimp in them, gave the rolls a bit more texture and flavor. Been loving Vietnamese food since 1975 & always looking for it when I stumbled on Henry's ( the owner ) sandwich shop, " Sans Sandwiches ".It's your typical Viet family shop with kids & Mom running it. Have only had one sandwich so far, the combo, but if this a precursor of the others then I'm there 3x a week. The first time I had their grilled pork banh mi, it was good. The bread was decent and the pork was marinated really good. But the second time, it wasn't as good. Yesterday was my first time here. Contrary to some of the earlier reviews, the place was very clean..no screaming children. The owner was at the front counter making sandwiches and took my order right away. Was ready in only 7 minutes or so and very delicious. I got the #1 BBQ pork and the #8? Combination Banh Mi. I highly recommend the BBQ pork, it wasn't too sweet.. it had some crispy bits.. very meaty not much fat.. along with the yummy and chewy bread it was a perfect Banh Mi... one of the best I've ever had.
