Not a burger sandwich
Chris F.

This place is awesome! Their sandwiches are delicious and the Dutch crunch bread was one of my favorites I have had. A ton of fun seating with swing seats as well as lawn chairs. The service was excellent as well. They are an addition of Cinder Block so they have a ton of drink options and even free arcade games. Definitely will be back!

Bay Boy has always been in my top tier for sandwich shops in KC. I'm so pleased to have them open inside of The Commons (Cinder Block) in NKC. Parking at the original West Plaza was always a hassle, so not only is it more convenient to park, it's much closer to home and work. I normally get the El Jefe or something off their specials menu, but today I went with The Bandit and I probably am going to be stuck on that one for the next few visits. Top tier roast beef with onions, smoked cheddar, raspberry jam and horseradish all resting on their famous Dutch Crunch bread. As the menu says, "weird, but works". Thank You Cinder Block for bringing Bay Boy north of the river! A great partnership that I will be supporting for food, drinks and fun.

As a northlander, I am so grateful to have a McLain's north of the river and on my way to work…read moreevery morning! The pick-up is so quick and easy - just order online, pop-in, and grab your order off the shelves to the left of the entry door. You can't go wrong with the food here from girl breakfast, to the plain + simple breakfast sandwich, to the pepperjack burrito, to the market bowl, lunch menu and their many many mouthwatering pastries. And don't forget about the coffee! They have both real mugs and to-go cups. I love their regular drip coffee, cold brew, cappuccinos and lattes. The cafe's interior design is modern, chic and comfortable with a mix of booth and table seating. I can usually find a seat for 2-4 people, groups larger than that may have a hard time finding a seat during peak times like weekend mornings. Seasonally, McLain's offers outdoor seating, too. Best of all, the staff makes you feel right at home - welcoming, friendly, helpful, hardworking and clean. Parking is angled street parking out front. Sometimes I have to walk a bit but never more than a block. Just writing this has me craving McLain's already.

This is a frequent stop for me and never fails to meet or exceed my expectations. Today's simple visit consisted of bottomless drip coffee and a chocolate chip cookie while getting some bright natural light to read my current book!

This review is for late lunch on a Friday in late July…read more service: Order at the counter. Everyone is nice, quick, and helpful. It's electronic payment from card or phone, so it's easy and fast. bar: All the big 'merican beers in cans, tall boys, and six packs in half dozen coolers. Lots of bottles behind the counter. Everything priced just right. food: Serious old school grill place. Think Town Topic or any other favorite spot. Burgers, cheesesteak, and tenderloin all highly recommended. For this visit, I went with plain burger and fries ($7.25 as of 07/2025) plus fries which are not to be missed ($3.25 as of 07/2025). details: West Bottoms, so don't be put off by neighborhood. Street parking around the building. Place is kinda bodega or neighborhood grocery, so you can get all manner of packaged food. No tables, this is take away food at its finest.

Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and our food came out quickly. I ordered a turkey club while my dad got one as well, and unfortunately we both had the same issue. The turkey was on the dry side, and it was sliced much thicker than I personally prefer. I tend to like a thinner deli-style sliced turkey, so it just wasn't my favorite sandwich. My mom ordered one of the salads though, and honestly it looked better than my sandwich. It was loaded with fresh toppings, and she said the ranch was excellent. If I come back, I'd probably skip the sandwich altogether and give one of the salads a try. Overall, I can definitely appreciate what they're going for. The prices are fantastic, honestly unheard of in present day, and that's the main reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3. It's a true local spot, and I wouldn't mind giving it another chance to try something different from the menu.

And even their prices haven't changed, making them cheaper than fast food. Try the Reuben or the Braunschweiger sandwiches, you can't go wrong! It's an a super old building and I would classify it as a dive bar. Street parking is available. They do have bar seat, some indoor seating, and a fairly large outdoor patio area. Everything was clean and the service was excellent and everyone was friendly. They offer beer, wine, and soft drinks. I stuck with beer because they have Guinness on tap and I won't pass that up. Prices for drinks are extremely reasonable. The sandwiches are fantastic. I went with Bob's Italian sub: salami, ham, turkey, lettuce, tomato, onion, American and provolone cheese, dressing, on a steamed Italian roll. I opt for double the meat which made the sandwich a whopping 10 ounces. Did I need to double it? No, but I like a giant sandwich and I have no regrets. The sandwich itself was delicious, I liked the combination and I would definitely order it again and highly recommend it. With the double meat the price was $12.95. All of the prices were well under what you normally see and is a welcome reprieve from $20 burgers and sandwiches without sides. They offer regular deli type sides but I went for a bag of pickles because who doesn't love a bag of pickles? They have other sandwich options including vegetarian and build your own. Definitely worth stopping in to have a Sammy and a brew. I'll be going back for sure!
